Meanwhile here's where my 486DX2 66Mhz (emulated) machine is at right now c:
lol without 8800GTx good luck
if crysis runs on linux shadows computer might be able to run it
it's real hardware core 2 duo
lol I can't even answer that question for your Core 2 Duo without more info. Either way that's both getting really far into the 00s and I doubt it would be a pleasurable experience
lol you can technically run it, but will it be performant? Probably not
can it run crysis was a serious meme back in 2007-2008
I saw someone run Crysis on a maxed out dual Pentium III server which was wild
and it certantly ran lol
yeah like 10fps?
I think they were getting at least a cinematic 24fps experience on the lowest settings so far far better than expected
Yeah I'd have to look up a conversation from two+ years ago to even check though lol
that 60fps gif is actually very nice though... but raises some questions because it's spedup as a result lol
lmao
American Psycho should be a literally cinematic 24fps
Mhmm great film, just showed it to a friend for her first time the other day
never watched it
you should
I can highly recommend it
a lot of cultural references
why does this gif feel weird
"i got to return some videotapes"
i did watch a video about what the film represents
impressive, very nice
spoilers :c
read the book it's better tbh
60fps as I said when it should be 24
but the movie is good
how am i to answer room questions when the stupid log file wont load?
ask AI
haha
fk sorry i got to stop
Ah didn't spot your message lol
It's not interpolated either, although that would probably look weird as well
so it's just sped up
i can open the error.log in notepad but not in the app
real ballers use edit.exe
removes the dramatic effect
ZZzzZzZzZZZZZZzZzZzZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZzZzZz meep moop to beep boop while sleep sloops time
I hope you're kidding
G'Night Shadow!
TV frame interpolation is gross and evil, it's mainly designed for like sports broadcasts
i will keep that in mind
ffs i g2 stop
lol wouldn't even work in 64bit Windows, I'm half being silly
The artificial idiot does have its uses tbh
edit is the QBasic editor broken out to be its own text editor, which is the main on DOS 5.0 and above
Just gotta be aware of the limits
nothing better than an ig story
While I was being silly about going hard on this being awful, it kind of is. I highly recommend turning off frame interpolation off on your TV if you have it on. Especially for 2D animation which I believe you're referring to
Yeah πππ»
I will
4 minutes early
Its mine tho it isnt a repost lol
Happy new day to people in GMT tz
cheers
For my 120Hz TV, five new frames would have to be generated to achieve that effect
i have the c1
Yeah I have the C3
Sony? Why switch?
What are your new days resolutions?
I love my LGs to death
I've just cracked out a 1500 word essay π
keep being sober
π₯ keyboard warrior
i do too, i want to get the G4 but it's a lot of money
I mean why do you even need to upgrade from the C1 already?
playing bloodborne on the c1 was mesmerizing
just a huge fan of rtings.com
I have 2x C3s and love them
haha i can answer the questions without the stupid app, notepad works
as somebody with an LG monitor, I do have to say it's been quite reliable
holy cow 2 C3s!!!
4026 x 2160 π
While that's fair, like don't jump at new and shiny and wait until there's an appriciable benefit. Especially instead of going down a step in LG's lineup or switching to (also quite good) Sonys
Yeah one for my bedroom and one in the living room
the smaller bedroom one was a test to see how much I liked it and obvs I loved it so went all in
Log Universe π 144 points
Oh awesome my JetKVM is being delivered
Nice those looked neat
I'll let you know how it goes
I have an smart tv that I'm using as a monitor
But who needs that when I have iDRAC in my server
I kid, there's tons more uses for JetKVM
Yeah I kinda specifically got a referb server instead of spare machines just for the lights out management
Killer features like, oh just upload the ISO you need to load to the SD card, and that's a virtual CD drive as far as the server is concerned
besides the whole remote access thing
woah that's pretty neat tbh
Yep, just something iDRAC does
Totally overkill when the server is 3m away from you though...
But brilliant when you're feeling lazy
shhh. We won't address that :p
... Ask me how I know.
lolol fair
you're right
Can't be bothered going upstairs to check server stats? Just do it from your phone.
It has something similar
lol indeed
I'm enjoying that too for my Unifi network now that I've kinda taken over admin from my very not networking savvy SO
Who decided to produce this?
For once there's a phone app that's not crap for managing your network and getting stats
Unifi though
IP^kvm is crazy
What's wrong with them, beyond price and occasional bad firmware? lol
That's awesome
We already had 3 Unifi APs which existed prior to me moving in and I just kinda completed the circle with a Unifi Gateway Max which I'm exteremly happy about
And then just running the Unifi server on my, erm, server
or when you are automating management, or want a proper segmentation of 'prod' vs 'mgt' networks in your homelab
@sand trench π
Y'know, that's a good question.
I remember seeing something a few years ago that turned me away from them, but for the life of me I can't remember what. A hallucination perhaps
Then again, it's probably something @naive violet said
Totally fair, because I can totally understand the two concerns I mentioned, but even this Gateway Max was the same price as many high end (lol) "gaming routers"
I know at work we've seen some bad firmware updates but they haven't been too hard to recover from and it's mostly gotten better
Right gn all, have a good one!
G'night Jayy!
I mean, I just run OPNsense and an enterprise WAP. Does the job rather nicely π€·ββοΈ
Yeah I can't complain, back in the day I did dd-wrt or OpenWRT on practically everything and loved it, but decided to kinda go full Unifi just because... yes it's what we often use at work
Fair
we're at a point where we're getting rid of some of our more traditional Next Gen firewalls and replacing them with Unifi Gateway Maxes just because they do all the same things we need but without a subscription
I was fancying OpenWRT for a while. Some of the tricks you can do with it are awesome. e.g., tagging traffic based on the WPA passphrase provided.
Plus lol I could tell some horror stories about our firewall vendor, guess I'll say it, SonicWALL, from experience
both personally and professionally
but yeah not the same thing as nice open source solution that you have
Look on the bright side... At least it's not fortigate
lol yep, or Cisco where apperently if you don't pay the sub, whoops no more networking
I mean, it's a lose lose. Either your networking goes down because you don't sell a kidney, or your networking goes down because someone's hacked all your firewalls
... Or both
One of my dear friends from back in the day swore by Sonicwall. They didn't perform very well for a client of mine in the datacentre so we chucked in a couple of Netscreens (they were bought by Juniper), and then replaced those with Juniper's own firewalls eventually
It was funny though SonicWALL had a year 2022 bug which crashed all of our firewalls on new years. I'm just glad I caught the news before work that morning so I could tell everyone what was up
... How do you mess up on 2022?
Exchange had a similar issue lol
2000, sure. 2038, sure.
Tf is the significance of 2022
For SonicWALL it was specifically boot loops with new virus/malware deffintions... which lol even then how does that happen
32bit integers
this will happen again in 2024
and so on
Year 2022
Dates that are stored in the format yymmddHHMM converted to a signed 32-bit integer overflowed on 1 January 2022, since 231 = 2147483648. Notably affected was the malware-scanning component update numbers of Microsoft Exchange, which appear to be used for a mathematical check to determine the latest update.[36][37]
Honda and Acura cars manufactured between 2004 and 2012 containing GPS navigation systems incorrectly displayed the year as 2002. This problem was due to an overflow on the GPS epoch.[38][39] The issue was resolved on August 17, 2022.[40]
In computer science, data type limitations and software bugs can cause errors in time and date calculation or display. These are most commonly manifestations of arithmetic overflow, but can also be the result of other issues. The best-known consequence of this type is the Y2K problem, but many other milestone dates or times exist that have cause...
π
I mean, marginally better than bricking a significant proportion of Windows devices on the planet...
hah indeed, still killed all of our clients right as they got into work so it was an all hands on deck situation
A. Fair enough, that makes sense.
B. Why am I not surprised you had that answer immediately to hand?
C. Hi π π
The SonicWALL bug was actually previously in this article, not sure why it was removed
But yes time and date both funkiness and sync is a big interest of mine in terms of tech so I've read that article many times
Cisco also refuses to allow WiFi location services too.
So software like SafeZone cannot use it to pinpoint people
I mean theroretically that's a great thing, but lol I get it if you work with retail chains
Ah okay SafeZone is for employee headcount for emergencies, fair enough
Yeah well, not good when you deny a safety app to be unable to pin point an alert in a building
It's a bit more than that but yeah
For a while the Ubiquiti cloud key and manager (containerized and build into UDB pro as well) was running a version of java that was extremely vulnerable to multiple RCE attacks. it was fine..... So long as the home prosumer remembered to lock down what can actually see the management console port. Serial was fine, internal network was fine.... But many users somehow managed to put the management console on the public facing WAN as well.
Mhmm, just my first take glancing at thier site
It's more used in education for students and staff to be able to check in when lone working or raise emergency issues.
Good points, that have been rectified afaik but I still have issues with their choice in ancient MongoDB, but thankfully they've at least allowed you to use more modern versions.
Our Unifi controllers at work was one of my first security tasks at work actually, patching log4shell vulns
Yep. And they still have a cloud version, which i am still unsure of. So I don't use the cloud management of anything. Probably going to get rid of all my network gear in the next year and start from scratch with whatever the new WAP is combined with an OpnSense router box.
Yeah I also can't speak of their cloud or "cloudkey" local device hosted options. I don't trust that compared to the self hosted Unifi server which is much more ideal imho
Totally fair though. Just for home networking, I'm finally getting back in the game after my SO acquiesced management of the network to me, fully admitting he doesn't know networking very well
been like 6-8 years since I've got to manage my home network so it's a breath of fresh air either way, which may contribute to my praise of Unifi. But been solid af so far
Thinking of exposing management interfaces, I still can't believe there's over 37,000 exposed ESXi/vSphere installs out there. Like come on
lol that was probably just the number confirmed to be actively exploitable via the new vulns tho
Ah yep, I did remember that correctly https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/over-37-000-vmware-esxi-servers-vulnerable-to-ongoing-attacks/
Anyways, I guess I'll continue to chat into the void. No regrets with switching from ESXi/vSphere to Proxmox for my home lab. Migration process was simple.
I used Proxmox at home prior to ESXi but I figured I'd continue to gain more valuable work experience... before Broadcom decided to screw over home lab users as well via the VMUG program requiring certs on top of a subscription
It is funny though, as a result I could tell my boss, yes I have experience migrating servers off of VMware if we want to go that way. I can't believe all the ways Broadcom/VMware are shooting themselves in the foot
They thought they had enough vendor lock-in with the already established base, even when there's a variety of tools and methods for integrating various VM/Cloud platforms
Yeah clearly understimated, especially for the small/medium business scope, but heck the even dramatically impacted the very large reseller scope and had to walk that back
It's a trainwreck
lol I'd go so far as to say it's Oracle acquiring Sun Microsystems levels of awfulness
How do I install GitHub?
Yeah I know of so many orgs ditching VMware all over the place for a variety of Cloud/Multi-cloud/Private Cloud environments with better terms and pricing in every way...
um if Ubuntu/Debian do sudo apt install git
Like I guess repositories? Idk how to use the tools or how to use the website
Iβm on Kali
That's Debian based yes
same difference, then you can git clone https://whatever-the-github-url-is to downlod the git repo and go from there
and presumably build the project
October 2009
You can learn Linux fundamentals from the Linux fundamentals rooms in THM.
I didπ I need to talk to the person who made the course.
That sounds like #room-help if you're actually running into issues following any instructions tbf
You can ask questions about any issues you're having in the relevant channels and people are always willing to help
But git its self is very simple
As a beginner. That knows nothings about nothing. Itβs a lot of reading. I wish it tests knowledge more to make sure you really understand.
To be fair infosec in general is a lot of reading, but also doing your own experimentation with what you've learned outside of just one platform
True thatβs me. I open up my Kali and test it on myself or my wifi.
For linux 90% of github projects are git clone the repo, make and make install. But yeah just read what the repo advises
The repo is a tool. Would it show up like a normal tool on Kali under the drop down?
Many github README.md literally just spell out how to do it
There is no drop down, this is terminal level concepts which returns us to, ensure you understand Linux Fundimentals as taught on THM
Just like, make sure that THM is not your only source of information as great as it is. If someone has asked a Linux question online, there's an answer and you can easily find it (compared to Windows)
Your right
Itβs no hate to try hack me I just wish they help some of this knowledge be Inforced
imho it's constantly re-enforced, but one great way of learning Linux is just by doing and using it
If the Linux knowledge is the gap you have, install a (normal) distro in a VM and try to use it as you would for normal activities, or a spare computer
Just by using Linux often and trying to do what you want there, you'll just inherently gain tons of experience
But yep, this will require both research and reading
Yea I like hands on things
Doing it myself
I feel like only the rooms show you how to do it not the courses
Totally fair, it would be good experience just to install and attempt to use a normal Linux distro in a VM as if it was your main computer. When you run into something you don't know how to do, just look it up
I also say "normal" since Kali Linux is a very specalized tool and shouldn't be used for general purpose computing. If you are curious the devs will tell you why: https://www.kali.org/docs/introduction/should-i-use-kali-linux/
Trying to install Steam on your Kali Linux desktop is an experiment that will not end well.
lol I'm glad they literally address that face on because I can't tell you how many times I saw that question in other Linux discords and had to explain, no bad
Because people think that Linux is hacker OS, so why not go with most hacker OS of Linux and use it as their main lol
Cos gamers want to be leet haxors or something... π
lmao
so often they get hacked
"let me download a pirated game"
And I've seen worse than that, believe it or not
i bet you do have stories
"help a friend installed apt on my Arch so he could install all of the Kali tools.... why is my system broken"... holy crap my dude
I use Mint as my main and Kali in a vm. I've been using Linux since 1997
based
Nice, only 2006 for me
piracy is justified in sea of thieves
omfg apt on
Vista and old hardware is what made me switch
nice lol, agreed

My college Linux lecturer occasionally wrote for Linux Journal. We both went to a small conference once and met Stallman
Very nice!
lol at least my experience is old enough that back in my day we had that sys v init, HAL, ALSA and manually configuring xorg.conf
nice to see another 9x something here π I've been using Linux since 1993
i was around but not with computers back then
ive been using linux since 2008
He was having a fairly open convo with about 8-10 of us, then just sat back on his chair and started messing around in emacs on his laptop
some OGs in the chat tho
inb4 Rex and subtlety laugh in OSS sound system
linus can be proud
tiktok brain but for emacs
I think I upset Linus when I spoke to him. I said something that irked him enough for him to mention it during the fireside chat at LinuxCon
but (n)vim... nevermind, we won't start this lol
i want more details
i like neovim
Sounds charactistically accurate, I wouldn't take it personally indeed
you live up to your name.
Linus seems like a guy who is easy to make angry
i mean
I honestly forget what I said to him, but he threw his hands in the air when one of the questions he was asked reminded him of our conversation
jfc
lol still legendary to even be able to say that
Linus, how do you feel about NVIDIA?
Last I heard he actually walked that back a bit
linus i'm using rhel because centos is open source, do you agree? i don't own a company
But Nvidia still has a long way to go
He walked that back and a new generation of FOSS devs are walking it 10 miles forward
the meme is so well known think NVIDIA has made steps in making it better experience
Linux use fedora so he's ok π π
I have to deal with NVIDIA every single day, fight with python3.10 just to keep my Tesla K80 working.
Well Nvidia have been playing a little better with everyone, since Linux is a tool very much in need by their customers
Honestly I've never had issues with Nvidia on Linux but I know I'm one of the lucky ones
Sway wm doesn't support nvidia gpus at all
wasn't 3.10 when the walrus := came around?
thank the linux gods.
Gave +1 Rep to @sinful moon (current: #31 - 299)
299
lol free rep
I think it was bionic beaver.
It's much easier to run NVIDIA on x11 than wayland, though.
deserved rep always
another π coder ! nice
That's fair, like they only just started to support Wayland finally
π assemble!
And it still runs much better if you can get it to work
the biggest problem with nvida is when you have a prime gpu
Yeah I'm in the same boat. It seems to have worked well for me. It even runs cyberpunk quite well on my machine
Imho Nvidia was like the thing holding Wayland adoption back for over a decade or more
i bought the 5070ti and in one of the unlucky ones with rup
i came up with a fun fake back story for wayland
tl;dr it started in California where people say "no way dude" and over time "way" is associated with California => way + land
luckily i'm doing the replacement
It's a bit difficult now, especially because nouveau is super slow.
How do I make a selection when I want to use a number?
import blackhoodie
blackhood.hack()
I'm having to use the proprietary nvidia drivers which I absolutely hate
I will say though, as an Arch user yeah I've just been sudo pacman -S nvidia and all set for quite some time
I have a dell with a nvidia gpu prime that mess up my life π π
You should see my github page(s).
although laughs at how I used to have to use the nvidia utility to generate my xorg.conf back in the day
Well nouveau did all it really could, they don't have access to the hardware enough to fully take advantage of it
why? what's there?
No shade to them, I respect the hell out of the devs
You'll see.
Iβm typing in the number to use a selection and itβs not working π«€
send link and review
but the fact is is that nouveau is slow and kinda unusable on a bunch of cards
You make it sound like it's final, but nah for sure a living project
Get what you mean though
nouveau kind of suck but it's not their fault, the do the best they can giving the circumstances
mhmm
Of course, but unfortunately, we're not allowed to know the inner workings of the infrastructure we rely on
It is funny though, us in the Linux community celebrate anytime Nvidia opens up any scrap of information but yeah it's often just that... scraps
haha.
I can relate, after all, I am trying to make a VBIOS for my Tesla K80 to unlock it's true potential.
with scraps you make Electronic Arts
God forbid AMD learn their propritary secrests lol
Can someone help me? Please
They still hide everything behind walls and there's not much you can do except decide whether you want their drivers
if you say what's the issue maybe somebody can help you π
I said it at the top with a picture. Iβm trying to make a selection and itβs refreshing the whole terminal
in any cases Nvidia makes more than 70% of their money in datacenters
they don't care about gpus anymore
I shall brb
My other machine is a locked down AMD thing with a FreeBBSD-based os... It sits under my tv and is quite neglected a lot of the time... Time for me to boot up my PS5 methinks
Ohhhhhh wait
Source : Digital Foundry
Yea I still need help
Years ago I had a great ATI graphics card (over 20 years ago) that came with a voucher for a free copy of Half Life 2. That was quite the win at the time
brb time to make another g&t
x1650?
Can't remember what it was but I think the box or manual for it is still in the attic...
Iβm trying to use a tool. When I type the number it refreshes. Idk what to do
i burned it in a year
Dude if this is a Evilgnix thing and related to a room, you should ask in #room-help
so trash lmfao
Probably before that one
You can see how fast this chat goes
ok ok
Idk if thatβs the UI for such but yeah
No itβs not idk what evilginix is
Then if this is a THM room, state the room and ask on that channel for assistance c:
Itβs general. Iβm trying to use a tool option. When I type in the number my whole terminal reloads
I went to the launch of Windows Vista in Dublin back in the day wearing a 'Free Software, Free Society' t-shirt. We got copies of Vista Ultimate and whatever the full Office version was. Neil Armstrong gave the keynote so we got in line after
Noah is this you?
If not a room then you need to give us info on the tool and your current setup
cheers
you seem like someone who has a lot of stories
you lived many moments that's great
I just got really lucky and got to take some opportunities
Yeah I was all of like 16 when Vista launched, neat to hear about
Microsoft gives you windows, Linux gives you a whole house π π
based comment
what a load of sh.. vista was, not as bad as windows me but still
windows allows you to do easily the easy tasks, linux allows you to do the difficult ones
vista is the reason i moved to linux
The thing that annoyed me about getting into windows sysadmin professionally, Linux naturally teaches you how to admin. For Microsoft, the real admin features are limited to Windows Sever and or never something even a Power User would come across
what's with infostealers being so shit, no obfuscation at ALL
And itβs only gotten worse with Azure/Entra ID
Easy, difficult it's not the issue for me. I love Linux because it gives you options π
I haven't used Windows for anything other than target practice in a long time. Got my new laptop at Xmas, booted into Win 11 for long enough to check the hardware then straight into Linux
absolutely, many options in how to move away from windows
i'm working on azure devops right now
EA and app reg is killing me with service connections
okie I'm back for real, I was in and out on my phone ealier
i'm using templating on terraform and it's so annoying doing the rotation
always have to watch my key vaults
Yeah just sadly something I have to do in small/medium business scope. But I hate to say that AD/GPO was a blessing compared to Azure/EntraID. Just nope
we're moving to github actions tho π―
GPOs were based between 2010-2019 for me
and then Azure Ad Connect came in...
hybrid...
Like to administrate anything cloud related for Microsoft these days, there's a good 50 different portals which may or may not apply to you and just holy crap
hell on earth for me
When I'm working I absolutely don't mind managing Windows/AD. I've not spent longer than a few hours on Azure so not really familiar with their processes
lol now that a vibe I 100% get lol
funny how azure came alive because of xbox
I mean AD/GPO is just lovely. But yeah the "cloud" experience is just a mess where they decided to re-invent the wheel in 50 different places
lol I'm glad at least I got to see the dying days of on-prem π
i did the migration from exchange to o365
in 2015-2016
pain in the ass
but got my ms-500!!!
lmao
MS has a history of taking the long way round to make things work, because if they don't have 500 doohickeys in a process chain, they can't do simple things
Mhmm, although was a bit later for us but wasn't the craziest thing ever, but we just used modern migration tools
but lol, I um, wasn't a part of that project anyways, I just know the team spoke highly of the product
Yeah I bet, that was sorta early days
Yeah I can only imagine that PowerShell and all that
I mean we managed Exchange servers up to past the 2020s and whew
indeed they're still doing it with windows, since 1995 π π
I got in when there were three left and wow they were not fun. But yep, all migrated now
which... causes problems when all of our clients had to sign into their phones and other devices once more because O365 connections failed last weekend
just all your eggs in the Microsoft basket, enjoy 20+ calls for logging people back into iOS Mail on their phone with their O365 lol
hahaha
Yeah it's certantly a thing lol
back in chat
as the saying goes, the cloud is just someone else's computer lol
I won't crap on the idea entirely however, I do enjoy the cloud VPS services I use personally and professionally.
cheap remote linux server? why not
erm the "cloud" idea more generally i should say
I currently have zero VMs or containers running anywhere in the world so I'm going to take advantage of the opportunity to run away to play games. Take care folks π
βοΈ ---- π»
Enjoy and it was great chatting!
βοΈ attack π»
Always a pleasure

wait @viscid vortex did you send me a friend request?
Anyways, even if Azure/Entra ID is an ever increasing admin task, I still recommend learning AD/GPO for sure
Gonna be a legacy of such for years and years to come
Just one of the things that kind of surprised me when I thought of myself as a Windows "Power User"...
Oh wow, there's all these wild admin tools that actually turn off all the things I disliked about Windows lol
Yeah you do have that on Pro editions of Windows with "Local Group Policy" but you probably wouldn't have understood how powerful that was without some experince. Probably had only seen it in guides as "method 3" or whatver lol
It'd not Entra ID anymore
alright gn everyone
Policy wise? Sure I couldn't tell you where it is with all the different Microsoft portals I have to get into just for security related concepts lol
Good night, was great chatting!
absolutely
It's me that is wrong, it's azure AD that also got renamed into Microsoft Entra ID
Yeah no worries, that's why I begruddingly just say both these days lol
the switch from Azure AD to Entra ID kinda pissed me off. Like Azure AD is way more clear as a through-line of what it's doing
Yeah, I had just heard some rumors of new name change again
Yeah Microsoft just loves that
Big time
How do I remove a repo?
I still laugh tho, there's so many references still to "AAD" or "azuread" in URLs, old docs and more tucked away places in Microsoft's massive infra, that they can't break those due to legacy reasons
In what sense?
On-prem is much better than cloud when it comes to naming
I installed a bad repo from GitHub. It says it requires a lot of things I donβt have for it to work. It took up 15mb and I wanted to remove it from my machine
Yeah, you've mentioned git in the past, but there's also the concept of repos you download by adding with apt package manager
Delete the folder
That's a lot.
Oh okay, so just like read the README.md on the page for the repo and see what they say, and also yeah can just delete the folder
Drunken tech support to the rescue
if you actually did like a full make and make install or whaver compile, then you can just check on the Readme like I mentioned for the uninstall to remove those too. The won't be managed by your package manger
I was more thinking about arch repos
I did βsudo apt installβ
Sudo apt remove
So yeah that's not git based, that would be your system's package manager
but Bella is right, that and then the package name is how you remove just a package
aka "the program's name"
It says βunable to locate packageβ
then that wasn't it. What are you trying to uninstall anyways?
waht program you try to renove for start
if is installed you just out first letter of program and pres tab 2x time or so and will show some results
Oh wait I have to verify the package is the right name
that need for sure
If apt didn't install properly, then it's not on your machine
Yup, then it's not on your machine
so if this is not the case, did you just use git
Yea
if so, mostly just delete the folder
done
if you installed it to your system, see what I said previously
Been so long since I've had Youghurt but yeah it's yummy
And the tool I was trying to use but I typed in a number to use the selection and it didnβt work because I had to install 34 other things
It's also a package manager in arch
yet another g&T π
oh lol I, yeah I use paru these days. But it takes me a second after so many different AUR managers over the years... lol I just have update alias which just "does the thing" lol
Indeed, yay updates everything
mhmm, if I remember correcrly, paru is the rust successor by the same devs as yay
yay sound like a cousin of yum π
lol, either way I think dnf is probably the worst name with "Did Not Finish" being used as a common racing Acronym lol
Now pacman that's pretty class and descriptive. And I mean, can't fault the version flag lol
Now that's my favorite package manager!
pacman waka waka
Yeah I have a good bit of respect for Fedora, good stuff. I usually use their projects as a sign I should switch to some new Linux tech that's being pioneered.
NixOS
When Fedora adopted PipeWire, I was all in and no regrets
just fantastic stuff
I switched on my Arch install and it was seamless and has been since
i use
for they have the best dark mode in my experience
I mean that's a theming and DE concern that could apply to any distro
My arch is full dark mode
OpenSUSE breaks dark mode when i tried in VM
I use arch btw
I have fedora full dark mode
mhmm, same. Basically same on every OS I daily, besides Windows not wanting to dark theme classic Win32 apps
I use fedora btw π π
I do the Linux, macOS, Windows on the daily most often. It's a thing
Linux main however
Linux is awesome
I just set up tails
(obvs mostly work, but I also just love being well versed in every OS)
For when I'm in China
whew, for real?
Yeah, flying Sunday
15:00 CET
Tails, i have it on USB
you know what people say, when you're in China, try not to get crush by the big firewall π π
The laptop I'm bringing has a "broken" windows setup
Only way to get it to boot is with my usb
Otherwise it just boots up in windows "os corrupt, please recover"
i would bring a laptop with Haiku OS
or damn small linux
or the Chinese linux distro , forget the name
It's got a nice ring to it.
which one? Deeping, ubuntu kylin or kylin
Deepin?
or Ubuntu Kylin
those are the 2 I know
Haiku is just lovely
News and feature lists of Linux and BSD distributions.
would be smart to have this distro so you are "friendly" linux user
I'm still wondering if I just gonna make a fake profile on my phone or bring my third burner
3rd burner
it is a distro i would not use unless i had to
3rd burner
Here's my THM/HTB attack box VPS:
I mean, I can isolate my normal profile properly for a basic security check
Might just bring both
Truths
but its China, bring stuff you can dispose of

hi
welcome new guy here
hope im wlecome here being a computer newbie :333
@molten sky π how are you?
nope, no computers allowed
not sure if i mentioned the new co here yet, but they finally started my background check after a week of screwing around
so i've gotta wait another week before starting ,-,
can you write in one line, please? it's kind of annoying one word per line
but we're making progress so whatever
sorry its how i type
cant control it i can try tho
~~ they just don't get it ~~
yes you can , wait until you finish a sentence before hitting enter
plenty of people in this discord have that same thing and can type a sentence
sorry ill try
how dare you assume my linguisticability
i need a drink
it's a matter of write like a human being, adhd isn't an excuse for everything
i dared
imagine writing a SOC report that way
im not using it as an excuse i just said
bro i thought i was gonna feel welcome here :/
okay, so what do you wish to learn in cyber security @junior relic ?
pentest_report(FINAL)2.docx
- dkim not found, email hackable
okay i'll have my 90k pls
It's okay, mate. I have faith in you, you can work it out, though :)
I mean they like lined up the words below this in a nice triangle shape and that was nice
lmao didn't even notice
I love it when text natually does that, mhmm
you can, just behive like a normal person π
beehive*
Anyways Rune, we're glad to have you
i just wanna learn about computers so i can have fun doing random stuff or tweaking it around π
i am a normal person...
funny, that's exactly what a crow would say
sounds fun, but this discord is for ethical legal cyber security just so you understand
fine by me :))
ok, cool
π
that's kind of vague, first you need to know what you want to learn exactly, pick a subject and the move to the next one
lol, also yeah if you weren't aware this Discord is primarily for https://tryhackme.com/ which does teach you from the basics about computers and information security
any of y'all use zen?
letrs see what options there are!
not yet
also i do have an issue atm
just loaded it up to poke at and got whiplash from how different the ui looks lol
#general message this list can help you too
i like LibreWolf
which zen? Just curious about context

Ah I just stick to Firefox, but I can understand
i downloaded a custom OS and i cant activate windows on it: windows reported that the hardware of your device has changed. error code: 0xC004F211
same, but i've had problems recently and got curious
they are shady now
we all know, but we shall see
"custom os" being?
i also saw
will be adding AI
I do
Yeah lol
the further enshitification of ddg
custom windows 11
i had windows 10 since its way faster than windows 11
where did you get it from?
They are much more for profit than their goals suggest... yeah this got it ^
but then this verion dletes soems tuff that makes winodws 11 faster than windows 10
google but some smart guy sent it to me so im pretty sure its fine he uses it himself
but yeah windows is a shitshow with activation sometimes
Custom version of Windows 11 is inadvisable, who knows what they changed
some guy ?
ik him personally, 2 years
π
nooo dw i known him for 2 years
but yeah we don't think the guy is doing anything, we just question how much he knows
a lot of people recommend things without actually knowing what it does or how it does it
so the chicken crossed the road and the duck crossed to the dark side π
like people recommending those old "cpu core unlock" tools and whatnot
hm
the duck crossed the AI to leak data
i mean i just did it because i prefer win 11 over win 10
Idk maybe you need to download more RAM
[download π ]
the horrible irony of that is "download more ram" used to KINDA be a thing too, with it essentially creating new swap space and actually speeding things up
it was nice while it lasted π
Yeah lol, I can't remember the exact package but it was that "Doubler" company iirc
yea, sucks
more wam
hmmm whats someything cool i can do?
install linux
*deletes original answer*
not windows

idk how to use linux thats the thing
gotta learn somehow (but realistically, maybe set up a virtual machine and poke around in there, see how it feels)
No Windows BS, an interface and OS you can customize however you want, sane package mangement (update all your apps easy) and more
search Oracle virtual machine
did broadcom kill vmware ws yet or nah
Virtual Box
if vmware ws is still alive i'd say that over vbox tbh
VMware Workstation Pro is now free, but you have to jump through their awful website
never really liked vbox
Hello uwu
ok lemme search virutal box
Vbox is better
but I would stil recommend Workstatio Pro
worth the pain to avoid virtualbox
VMware is better than VirtualBox
lol
Nah Kim
I download wine π
the only reason vbox was better was because it supported snapshots while the free version of vmware did not, but with vmware workstation now being free, it lost that advantage
grep π
ok so
Itβs not VMWare. Fuck Broadcom.
vmware correct
okay yeah fuck broadcom but the product is still better
One better, I actually did the
logo lol
as if Oracle is any better
use which ever you like and works on your machine
remember what they did to Sun Microsystems
either will get you there at the end of the day, it's a lot of bickering here about preference, lol
How are we tn?
lol fair enough
solving a case of windows
I remember
They have stores for that >.<
#neverforget
forget what?
What's happening?
okkkkkk wait tysm btw lemme download it rq
11/22
Oracle killing Solaris and much much much more
Sun was fun, they sent me a Solaris x86 to test, when I enrolled in their developers program
new user using custom windows
in other news ---
22/11 haha
i had a guy dm me earlier for help on an open source project i maintain
hah
I need to install w11 to see how many upsells they added
after some nonsense where he couldn't figure out how to paste commands, this guy starts asking me if i like to eat meat and about some political expat
on other news shame when OS/2 was killed, I liked that OS
It's not so bad on Pro, but I also configure Local Group Policy to like disable that on my personal machines if they're not just going to be Linux
copy and paste "do you eat meat?"
so to be fair, I don't get most of them since they're often time delayed and stuff
a brave soul
i wouldn't dare go down that path
did you see tib3rius video? the Windows staff used pirated exploit on his paid version machine
Yeah I have one single pesonal Windows computer at this point lol
my god you have no idea how much i'm hoping this new co doesn't stick me with a windows laptop
just give me mac at this point idec
Iβve completely cut out Windows from my life, although CAD might be an issue. I got Fusion360 to work, but it runs pretty poorly
Due to the program creating completely different windows and containers with each menu
Windows is trash
Yeah just about the only reason it's even in rotation is because I have to admin it at work
CAD is literally the only thing I've had to boot into windows for
and that's not gonna last long
if windows was not forced upon every org it would die away as it should
same
what do i import
youtube "how to install virtual box"
or vmware workstation if you did that
its installed but idk how to do it
You need an ISO file to import into your virtual machine
how do i get one
?
(youtube is your best friend here, actually)
β€οΈ
youtube "how to load linux on VM"
what about windows
I think Linux Mint has a VMware/virtualbox installation package if you look on their website
Same with Debian
ive never used linux personally
I love a good asado (BBQ)
as to what distro, maybe start off with kubuntu or mint since those are the most like windows UX wise and have large support communities
Windows needs license keys, and you can only use it for a limited time or limited features without.
download a Linux distro .iso file > upload to VM hypervisor
my brain hurts
π
how are yall so smart
actually books are your best friends, but a lot of people prefer videos nowadays π
π
youtube
Not sure what the eyes are for, but I will not state more on this matter than I have lol
how did ya start off
I am 100% team books for most things, but I've found books are difficult for tech stuff nowadays with how quickly everything changes
experience, you'll get there
mhmm
like getting certified in anything security is a crapshoot by book nowadays, unless you're on the comptia train
Nah like said above, it just comes with experience
distro iso file and a mv hypervisor
i hopeeeeeeeeeeeee
just a file that hold a operating system
an .iso is a disc image of a virtual CD ROM or DVD
bro ima be so honest with u
that didnt help
πΏ
this better ^
so you provide it to the VM, so that it thinks it's booting from a CD like in real life
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
the VM is like you running a whole new Windows computer that holds a another computer inside it
Distro is a type(?) of Linux with a set of pre-installed applications
Thereβs more that goes into it but thatβs pretty much all you need to know.
aight time to learn kubernetes! (/s)
ya i seen like videos of people running viruses in them
To be clear, that is not something you should ever try until you are far more experienced
so you hate yourself a bit π π
VM is how to practice cyber security
why not?
(do not do this until you actually know what's up --- things can escape the vm onto your host in certain situations)
oh shit
oh no i already do k8s, i meant for rune πΆ
thats not good ty for advising that i appreciate it
Because if you don't know how to protect and isolate your VM, it can infect your host system. Just don't take it lightly
i learned some kubernetes, its complex
i wont risk it until ik alot more abt computers!
never mind it for now
to be clear, realistically, odds are damn near 0 --- but those issues DO exist sometimes, and you should know how to mitigate
π i probably should nvm it
a type of contianer (basically mini VM) which can be distributed over multiple servers. This is not a concern you need to know just yet
i wouldnt risk it then i dont wanna ruin my pc haha
if he didn't know what an iso was, I guess that kubernetes it's not the best action plan π π
trial by fire
if he can't debug my cluster by EOD, time to start the termination paperwork
who wanna help me set this badboy up - its ok if not
more like throwing him into a flaming pit π
Honestly it's best you learn and research yourself
just a bit confusing for me haha
unironically how i learned k8s tho, was the only person available & reachable during a regional outage on a weekend
Rune the goal
- download a virtual machine hypervisor (VMware)
- download a linux
.isofile by going to Kali website - download the LINUX MINT for the VM hypervisor you have
- install linux mint VM
for someone who's just learning javascript, what would be some easy self projects i can make, that i can put on my portfolio?
Search on google and as people said above even YouTube
~~ lol this guy wants to learn js ~~ (kidding)
preferrably related to cybersecurity
I wouldnβt install Kali as my first distro
freecodecamp has projects for this
Linux Mint, Kubuntu and Endeavor are great options
i had to put something down, but agreed
I really like Endeavor
Yeah Kali is a poor choice if you're not even familiar with "a Linux" lol
Tinker while still having a minimal but functional desktop
I just say Kubuntu or Xubuntu for most tbh
< updated >
JavaScript is used everywhere. If you don't already know how to program in JavaScript, this is a great time to learn. We just released a 7-hour beginner's JavaScript course on the freeCodeCamp.org YouTube channel. Per Borgen created the course. He is...
so if not kali which one do i get?
KDE Neon is neat but it's a bit too bleeding edge UI wise
it pains me to recommend cause fuck canonical but it's kinda the easiest to learn on still
that is to learn it, which you stated you already know it
kubuntu is my rec
Linux Mint or Kubuntu
Agred for all the same reasons
And yeah just install Kubuntu
idk why Mint stil exists lol
It was alright the last time I booted it
But yeah 64 bit download unless your computer is 15 years old
Rune, watch a youtube video and try things
Kali not really the best choice for a first distro, let's start with arch π
mint is in a weird place where gnome2 is so damn out of date and well, dated looking and feeling, but gnome3 is just straight shit, and other DEs are all covered already, and it's kinda stuck
Fair but like, besides Cinnamon, it's sole contribution was "we provide propritary codes easlier than Ubuntu does".
Cinnamon is all Iβve ever used
holy 4.4gb
tracks
eh i'll search up the projects then
thanks for citing it
Gave +1 Rep to @grizzled wing (current: #39 - 231)
Linux Mint
and that's kinda been superseeded by, Cinnamon is avaliable in any distro and mp3 and a couple others are free to use now
I love cinnamon. I used it for a long time
what's wrong with mint?
everyone agrees mint is for new users
but like, kde exists
okay maybe I'll be the odd one out for once lol
KDE is awesome
mate π
I just remember historical issues with Mint for sure which probably shape my view
its downloading
i think mint is great if you're just switching to linux from windows
prolly a better choice than ubuntu
i say Mat-ay
you get the old gnome look with mate
Hi
mint is mostly stable nowdays but yeah still the odd bug
any other ways are wrong
howdy
Man, KDE before KDE6 was miserable
i'll accept either gnome or gnome but mate is always mate
π¦
yeah MATE or KDE are far better biggen DEs than modern GNOME whew
GNOME is the foot, works for me
modern gnome is more fischer priced than the new new new windows 11 settings pane

mateπ§
still love XFCE myself, but I get that it's hard to sell even with good themes lol
man i love xfce but fuck setting it up
i don't wanna tinker anymore
i just want my shit to work
export your dot files for it
i don't even have up to date dotfiles
then it'll just like do the thing
Xfce is ugly
i just want to install and get busy
gnome is best
stock? sure, but not when custom
only used stock
kali's xfce is solid imo as well
not perfect
but nice
GNOME is not the best, and i like GNOME
Common conception, you have already demonstrated that you haven't ever looked into theming Linux. Just using the default themes with your distro is not the only thing you ever have to do
Gnome is so ugly man
i have themed my
, but for most part have not
thing with xfce is, it works
when you can't get an app to work with hyprland, you open xfce
why do all of the native app icons look like a high school intern designed them
that sounds a bit more harsh than I meant lol, but yeah. I used to create some themes for Linux windowing engines and GUI engines
gnome is if the mac ui and windows 11 settings ui merged and got approximately 8 1/2 times shittier
I like it, it's a work on memory lane for me, I used fvwm for a long time
yeah GNOME 3 is just awful lol
GNOME is mac-ish and is why i like it
that's when everything went to shit with gnome
with Gnome
i used ubuntu in my uni and the configurations were shit
so i hated ubuntu from that, and then started hating gnome as a side effect of that

Yeah I got into Ubuntu in the GNOME 2 era when it was a bit more sane lol
linux users all have strong opinions
and even then moved onto Xubuntu fast around 2007
gnome is what you give your 83 y/o grandmother for a facebook machine when she complains about her ipad not working well
New gnome 4.7 works perfectly with ubuntu new version. It's fast and good
I love gnome in the beginning, mate still has that kind of old gnome charm
i guess i am 83
mhmm Mate preserves the proper GNOME 2 vibes
linux users to windows users - don't use windows, any linux distro is better
linux users to other linux users - your linux distro is shit
they fork it gnome 2 π
but i use windows and mac only
I am more than aware
lol thus my statement
tbf both statements are true if windows is bottom of the barrel
i come this server today but someone dm to me about "do you need hacking services?" so i just block him, is it often thing in here?
forks and spoons
yes
lmfao, drop em in chat and he'll get the boot
So tired
I love both for differents moments π
spoon to cut out your enemy's heart
That is spam and unsolicted DMs like that are against the rules of the server, I'd say notifify a mod about it
okay but how?
i don't get much spam or hatemail anymore since i went inactive on here ,-,
never had one offering services to me
usually they are the one's asking me to hack their ex or something
i enjoyed reading them sometimes
all goes to /dev/null
^
Nobody asked me that.... Am I not good enough to be scammed?
okie time for food, I will be back
it's in the rules that you agree when you join the server π
i had to block all DMs after so long having them open. just too much garbage with more and more new users
rules? you mean that checklist?
Morning chat
the other π¦
and Good night to the people from other side of the world
π
yo goodnight
hello
lmfao is a chinese hacker isn't it
what are you hacking today?
he didn't joined this server, no single server same, but how he dm to me? hmm
discord settings
gnome vs mate is similar comp... like burp vs zap
hey guys
i'm feeling weirdly curious regarding the origin of this gif
oh the creator is here
greetings mate, how are you
ive been off for awhile
Burp Suite Basics
im good
that is a good module
and i've 100% seen you somewhere before but it says you're a new user
yep baisicially
After that there is OWASP Top 10
YOOOOO same
i'm not new
learning all the solid pajama things
Hi not new... I am pyjamasaur
haa
ive been doing a lot of html over the past week
