That's not what I said; I said that discrepancies and misrepresentations between their resume and the OSINT I do on every candidate I interview ends up with more questions. Some (many) of those questions go into the candidates trustworthiness and what kind of trust I can expect them to build in the team and across the team.

Trust is the only thing in security that can't be bought; if that is trust is broken by stupid stuff based on how they present themselves, that cannot be regained.

Yes. Because it seems overly pedantic, but different orgs use terms uniquely; everyone in the industry understands how this game is played, especially from a support vs infrastructure perspective. The company determines what the title is, not you. They are selling services - so for them, calling that position an "engineer" (even if everyone knows that it is NOT actual engineering) is part of the game of sales.

Some areas require that "engineer" be reserved as a protected role that requires professional engineering qualifications. That is not true in every place, though, so it's important that candidates say their role, and can talk about the tasking they did. Nothing that would break NDA, but certainly types of things that they did.
