if you want a distro specifically for hacking, kali it is. If you want a daily driver, I use fedora, but many people use ubuntu, arc, etc. take your pick there are thousands of distros to choose

Help desk and System admin are junior IT roles. Pentest is not entry level to security, and security is usually not entry level.

If you don't understand at least to a CCNA level, you definitely aren't ready for any kind of pentest. Strongly, strongly recommend you learn about networking, basic server administration, and maybe a programming language first.
