That's partly what I'm getting at, I need to sleep as I work full time and rooms are released when I am sleeping. I think a better time statistic would be how long the person took in the room and not if they were one for the first 9 to complete. In theory I could complete a room as fast or faster than some however since I am sleeping I can't participate in the challenge. Now if it was based on amount of time spent in the room and not when you completed it, I think it would improve the leaderboard by giving more people of varying schedules and timezones a chance of being top 9

I know they do, if you look at the api for the leaderboard you can see what time questions where answered, I'm not positive if they have one for when people join but they literally would just need to calculate the difference between the two times. So player 6 completed it in 30 minutes within the first hour. This allows me to wake up and get on THM at my normal time (let's say 5 hours later) and complete the room. If I complete it in 29 minutes 52 seconds, that should make me player 6 assuming no one else gotten a better time before me.

That's an understandable concern and that's something I also agree is an issue with my suggestion. But how the leaderboards currently are, they don't really have a real incentive to motivate people unless they are working on the room within the first few hours of release.

That depends on how many people have solved the room.

Obviously the number will fluctuate from time to time.

The issue is that a good autogen is hard to build, and takes a lot of time to get right. It's more than just the code, you also need to make sure that you're not making one instance harder than another.
It's also poorer for learning because you can't use writeups to see the path forward if you get really stuck on something challenging.

They're good for competitions at that level of generation, but not much else.

Now, dynamic flags on the other hand...
