The people in the server are nice, and might give you some guidance with other resources too.
One of the mods is a maths Prof. So it can be handy.

You want to, randomly sort 240 characters from a designated character set into the cubes, no more than one character per cube, and crucially, allowing, or not? for repetition of characters?

Assuming I understand correctly.

I would probably define an array with all valid characters.
Then, I think from an optimisation perspective, it's probably faster to pull 240 random characters into a char arr, aka: string of length 240.

I think calling them cubes is messing with me because I'm expecting more.
Since each is getting only a single character, it's a square, a node, a space, etc.

After generating my string, I'd just iterate over the 2d array that defines the grid, dropping strRandomChar[i] into the array slot as I go.

I guess there's probably some optimisation tricks for processing speed by using a stack and popping vars off the stack into the grid until there's no stack left; but essentially the same concept.
