Qubes OS is a linux Hypervisor based operating system with a security first design.

If you've ever heard of the data-center term "Hyperscaler"

It's kind of like trying to do that, but inside a single computer.

Used VMware personally and professionally since college in 2007.
But I believe in voting with my wallet. (Or in this case, my clients and employers wallets).

At work depending on which business unit, things are either moving to XCP-NG or Proxmox.

It's SO easy to migrate off VMware too.

Proxmox can mount VMware servers directly as storage, and then they've automated the tooling so I don't even have to manually move and convert the VHDs.

But yeah Qubes OS is a Tier1 hypervisor, that then does some trickery to open a desktop session to a management VM and present that as your desktop output 🙂
