IPv4s are circulated on a regular basis and only apply to a singular device, usually your switch. These then distribute a series (based on NAT) to devices that receive connections through that switch, giving the appearance of there being less devices.

Mitm lets you set yourself to decrypt traffic if done right

You act as the trusted source for said secure comms

So the keys get exchanged with you as a proxy in the middle

Then if you want to and your goal is to stay incognito so to speak you can forward the traffic to its intended destination

If done properly it’s hard to detect especially when the target is seeing the encryption sign on their end and getting back the exchange of data intended

The reality is though you are in the middle of that

I won’t go into deep details as it can be abused and land people into hot water and I know that’s vague and I’m speaking in generalities. It’s intentional. But hopefully that answers your question.
