So you know how our number system is typically represented in units, tens, hundreds, thousands etc? Say we have "123", that's one hundred, two tens and three units. We can put that in the form 123 = (10^0)*(3)+(10^1)*(2)+(10^2)*(1). This is where the term base 10 comes from, because it's 10 (the base) raised to the power of 0,1,2 etc..

With binary, it's base 2. So the number you want to represent is with base 2 powers
