if you’re in Windows Home releases, you’re screwed completely. If you’re on Pro you have most of the tools but don’t know they exist, if you have Windows Sever, you have everything you need and are presumably in the position to actually learn and admin it all… but yea a lot of this knowledge is bundled behind licenses

Yes, they have some even more painful end user prompts in the latest release, along with a super super annoying issue where they’re just not letting you install non-signed applications anymore. I haven’t run into that yet, but it may mean I just have to disable Mac Gatekeeper entirely

That really depends on your use case. If you don't care about fast recovery, just go with a 3-5 baby and use raid 5. If you do care, have a live backup so you can have immediate access to data without having to worry about rebuild time.
