YAML (/หˆjรฆmษ™l/, rhymes with camel[4]) was first proposed by Clark Evans in 2001,[15] who designed it together with Ingy dรถt Net[16] and Oren Ben-Kiki.[16] Originally YAML was said to mean Yet Another Markup Language,[17] because it was released in an era that saw a proliferation of markup languages for presentation and connectivity (HTML, XML, SGML, etc). Its initial name was intended as a tongue-in-cheek reference[18] to the technology landscape, referencing its purpose as a markup language with the yet another construct, but it was then repurposed as YAML Ain't Markup Language, a recursive acronym, to distinguish its purpose as data-oriented, rather than document markup.

# whole gazelle dunno bro maybe you are right. that's how it was explained to me

"but it was then repurposed as YAML Ain't Markup Language, a recursive acronym, to distinguish its purpose as data-oriented, rather than document markup. " https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YAML#History_and_name yeah they changed it

YAML ( ; see ยง History and name) is a human-readable data serialization language. It is commonly used for configuration files and in applications where data is being stored or transmitted. YAML targets many of the same communications applications as Extensible Markup Language (XML) but has a minimal syntax that intentionally differs from Standar...

Getting asked networking questions by my team at work the last couple of weeks.
Jeeze, it's been a while since I've tried to remember the actual config commands.
Last time I did networking stuff was here, assisting someone studying their CCNA.

Stuff for work:
Very basic configuration, but configure all ports to filter bpdu to avoid risk of triggering corporate core switching cabinet from disabling our segment via bpduguard.
And then yell at everyone that if they create a loop I'll be making my next network cables out of their innards.

Stuff for me:
Brushing up on 802.1x auto VLAN assignments based on user an device credentials.
Brushing up on Microsoft AD "IPSec Isolation", Network Access Protection, and System Health Validation.

Kadset - Running Linux on 'Bare metal' (as we call it) is fine, just use a stable one, link Ubuntu or something. Things like Kali arent great on bare metal, and... well, you might break it, so a VM is a better solution for that

Kadser - Not overly, but remember what you are using it for ๐Ÿ˜„

tight trout
split compass
glass nest
#

You're gonna be adding stuff to the PATH, adding random tools, editing settings all sorts. If you are doing stuff right, you'll probably break it at some point ๐Ÿ˜„

#

Using a more stable Linux as your daily driver is a great way to get used to terminal commands and permissions and stuff

crimson flame
glass nest
#

Reinstalling a whole OS would be more annoying. A VM will tkae like... 5 mins to install? a whole OS can be 30 mins to a couple of hours.Plus you lose everything

tight trout
glass nest
#

And with a VM, you can try out different OS's in relative safety. Kali, Parrot, Tracelabs... arch

crimson flame
glass nest
#

With a VM? Very unlikely. With bare-metal... just unlikely, depending on what you are doing with it

#

That being said, you can brick a laptop by putting your bag down too hard, y'know?

The TL;DR on it is:
Think about your home lab.
You have a Firewall, maybe on PFSense, and maybe a switch internally with VLANs for inside/outside traffic, and a Storage NAS, and maybe a Proxmox hypervisor with PiHole, and Jellyfin, and a Squid proxy, and maybe a VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure).

Now condense each of those down into a controlled and managed virtual infrastructure.
Then place it inside a computer.

Ip based ban is totally possible. And also if the account is being made with unusual email domains

dark frost

At the end of the day if they were to block Kali Linux, one that would have to be able to detect Kali, and given as it user agents as Debian Linux it would affect other legitimate users.

There are ways to detect that it's Kali but it's no different to someone downloading specific tools onto Linux distribution. I could quite easily spin up Ubuntu and then install whatever tool I needed.

Hello, I am a bit new here, but I was just wondering. I am a data scientist trying to move into cybersecurity. And I have heard that cybersecurity is using a lot of hands on programming for scripts and exploits and automating a lot, especially in python. So I was wondering, what things are worth learning in python, C# or C for cybersecurity, is there a lot to learn, or any special libraries, network programing etc? And btw, should I start learning the coding parts for cybersecurity first or would you recomend me starting on thm?

little siren
#

Lol I wish cri

glass nest

hiya Loklish - Programming isn't really needed for cybersecurity. It more useful to be able to read code rather than be able to write it

tight trout
#

Definitly useful, but not neccesary

little siren
#

Not even python or bash scripts?

glass nest
#

You'll probably have to do some python scripting at some point, but thats not that hard. Python is basically english

tawny aurora
errant fossil
tawny aurora
#

okey, but are we talking simple python code then, like arrays, lists, loops, classes etc. Or something else?

errant fossil
little siren
#

If you start doing thm you will get a look at what you need, advent of cyber 2023 has some python malware tasks

Oh, damn, that is cool!

But what about sockets and networking programming? I have watched some vidoes about some people talking about that.
