Right so from the ISP, the ingress traffic meets to the edge router, then into the firewall and then there are 2 way of having the IPS/IDS routed. One is having it "inline" which means direct connection after the firewall or two is having a "Inline Tap" which splits the some of the network traffic to go to the IPS/IDS.
