the switch forwards the message to all devices on local network
the router recieves the message but does not forward it to other subnets

Hey y'all. Stupid question... (because I should know this, but am currently confused)... on my M2 MBP, my shell is zsh, but I don't have a .zshrc file to configure paths. it will send it to the 255.255.255.255 broadcast address.... but all the packets will be contained inside that subnet... the dhcp server/servers will respond and the first response your computer gets it will try and accept and send a response to that dhcp server... which will send a final message to confirm your computer got the new ip

i think what people fail to recognize is that arch doesn't have anything extra in terms of customizability
rather its that with some distros like mint, you already get a decent readymade system which you can ditch and customize yourself, but you can also not do it and use what you get readymade
but you don't get that option with distros like arch and need to do all the configurations and stuff to start using it
that's pretty much it

having a blank slate is better if you want to write your own stuff on it
but that doesn't mean you can't take a slate with stuff written on it and erase them and then write your stuff
