A criminal can get good at Lock picking and use it to break into homes, but you also have lock smiths breaking into homes(legally) by being hired to help unlock stuff for customers. They usually ask for ID so they know what they are breaking into it’s owned by the customer.

I had issue with some red teamers at my old address and was directly thinking about them when I answered that question. I obviously know not all red teamers are bad people. In my head red attack, blue defend. I picked blue because I was wanted to help women stay protected away from creepy stalkers like what I went through. It wasn’t a personal attack on red teamers. I know some great people who are reds but I suppose it just came out like that.

You are unlikely t o find newer drivers; IIRC that series of card is no longer supported and your best bet is to download the legacy drivers instead.

Ubuntu is fine for people to get started with linux. It's also fine for experienced users. Ubuntu does make managing some things 'easier' because of all the GUIs, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. Eventually they'll run into something that they need to configure from .conf or .ini file, and the real learning begins.

Whichever linux distro you eventually pick, I strongly recommend trying several different flavors out in VMs before you decide to run it bare-metal as the primary host OS.

That's the key to starting, I will say that I used linux casually for about 5 years before I started doing real sysadmin work. I learned more in a year of sysadmin than I did in those 5 years of personal use..... That said, the casual use made my sysadmin learning much much much easier than just diving into the world of running RHEL and CentOS in prod.

Best advice I can give for someone just starting in linux: survey several distros. See which one 'feels' the best for you. Stick with the long term support versions. Use it regularly for basic tasks.
