if you're using Windows 10/11, I recommend simply sticking with Windows Defender, which is built in, and reasonably effective. Yeah, it can be bypassed under the right circumstances, but imo, will still stop common threats. as for VPN, i don't use one. unless you have a specific use case, I wouldn't worry about that.

If you don’t know what a C2 server is and why it could be useful, yeah it’s much too early for VPN

so, it depends. on your situation. for example. if you use IRC and frequent servers where people are a bit sketch, then YES. Absolutely get the VPN to hide your home IP. Otherwise, most services these days protect the user's IP, so no need to worry. Also, if your specific situation requires you to hide your home location from services you visit, then consider getting a VPN. That is the purpose of a VPN. Basically: You -> VPN -> internet instead of You -> ISP -> Internet. You're still revealing your info, but only to the VPN provider, and not your ISP or websites, etc.

But if you're just a regular joe, don't sweat it. I wouldn't recommend a VPN in that case...

kali is not meant to be daily driven
kali isn't at all required, just a nicety, and it exists for one reason --- something that has a bunch of tools in one place for a quick and dirty build up and tear down --- with this, kali is meant to be disposable (i.e. in a vm)

An ISP just set up internet at a new apartment of mine, they installed a router but when you type 192.168.1.1 you go to a login screen that isn't for that router

They said to get to my router and login I need to go to a website

The attackbox and target machines are ec2 (AWS) VMs.
They have access tokens in order to authenticate within AWS to other resources.
In the real world, obtaining them would be significant because you could potentially pivot through the AWS environment and get more resources. In THM? Hopefully it's configured better than that.
