Hey, I need help with this Virtual Machine for Kali Linux. I've been using Kali for a while, installing it on all my computers without a problem. But, I got my new laptop (RTX 4070, I9 14000HX 32GB of ram and 1TB of storage, running at 240Hz refresh rate and a 4k resolution) however, when I tired getting Kali, I ran into multiple problems which I never had before. The first issue was with the CD VBOX Eddition so I can atleast pull fullscreen. It wasn't working, I fixed that anyways by ticking "Enable 3D Eccelration" But now, it's so laggy. I can't use my RTX 4070 since it requires a freaking hyper-v which I don't wanna use and I don't even have. So, now I'm left with an extermely Kali Linux, It looks so bad when I move the windows around and it can barley load up firefox, it never used to do that. Matter of fact I'm being generous with 8GB of ram and literally 8 cores and an extra 256 Vram with a powershell code. Nothing is working, please help. It would help me with cybersecurity for my upcoming classes in school. Thank you!

Try it out for a bit, my main issue when I tried it (maybe last yr?) was the pre-packaged repositories didn’t include a lot of the common stuff I use (granted that Kali has their team managing their repos and keeping it updated with tools) and there were so many outdated modules and kernel version IIRC that installing my tools from their source as-is was a PITA.

Even CryptoCat, one of its avid users spoke about how Parrot has old packages in its repo.

It might be better now compared to last year but I have no idea.

I've had regular issues using GDB with PwnTools and finally discovered the reason; the Parrot GDB version is 2 years old!! I manually upgraded to 12.1 and all issues are resolved. Why is the Parrot apt repo using such old versions though?

I would suggest getting into the habit of taking snapshots of your VM. Especially when you upgrade to newer versions and whatnot

I usually install all my tools on a fresh install then take a snapshot. That way, I have a known good version of my Kali

Ippsec has a series where he automated his VM creation which I think is pretty neat. You can also look into that.

The update command updates your package versions and list of packages in the repository. What you want to do is upgrade
