NOPE, This is a thing I struggle with. Retaining information is hard when you work through them with little understanding of what you are doing. That is the thing for me, everyone else is "go research" so basically what they are saying is tryhackme does a poor job of explaining it because you have to go research it somewhere else. Then its a case of glossing over something you may never use again. How many ways are there to "hack" something. Can you learn them all in one room? How long would that take. I think the idea of the first three courses on here is a general overview of what is involved. To learn something takes time, retaining that information takes time. Getting it right everytime requires learning where you may be going wrong.

One example would be ssh, I have used it to go on over the wire, ssh bandit1@bandit.labs.overthewire.org -p 2220. I can remember that because I have written it at least 13 times now. But there is a room that required a private ssh key and I had no idea, even though I had used the -i [format] thing before, I could not remember. It takes practice, you have to remember flags/switches/arguments.

I would recommend trying out both environments for a day. Then you'll definitely know which is more comfortable for you. When you are further along, you can switch at any time and it won't be a problem for you.
