the best way to reinforce the knowledge really is to use it, and keep using it. It's going to fade from memory if you don't use it. And that's okay.

The more fundamental concepts of stuff like networking should come up again and again and again as you go forward though, so there won't be much opportunity for forgetting them. This isn't necessarily the case for some of the rooms - for example rooms that teach you how to use a particular tool - especially if you never use that tool again afterward. And that's okay. It's to engage your brain with the concepts and the general abstractions that are used in the field.

but if i had to explain it i'd say it's like a desk. Sometimes i put things down next to me on my desk because i might need them again very soon, like a screwdriver, or my coffee mug, or headphones. But where do I stop? eventually I'll be putting so many things in the cache (my desk) that the entire surface will be covered, making it hard to find any one of the things

Sure i could organize the things (Index them), but that's going to come at a cost too. So it's best to try to keep the cache tidy and efficient from the start.

That way when i go to grab something from it, it's not slower than just getting it from its original place (like a screwdriver from the toolbox)

But you see already there are multiple questions you could ask about any of this. When to cache index and when not to? what even is a cache index? What are we caching? what does the screwdriver actually represent? And the answers are going to be different in lots of different contexts

So yeah, best to go research
