Use LVM, it can make managing your disks much easier. Encryption is always a good idea, as long as you know your passwords. Consider putting your /home folder in its own parition. A lot of people separate out /var too. You should read up about LVM and encrypted LVM. There's lots of free resources online

I think that's pretty standard, because it needs a moment frozen in time
but the actual interface is far ahead
like with workstation if I load an old snapshot and get to work, my next snapshot will be a child of the original
with qemu/vmm, it's just one giant alphabetically sorted list of snapshots
