split compass
#

Sadly it won't do the whole e-sig thing, so still have to separately PGP sign it if I want to do something like that.

#

It's amazing what a quick doodle chart will do for you.

#

At work every one of our cubicles is made out of whiteboard.
It almost makes up for being in a cubicle.

#

Officially WFH 2/5 days now though, which is nice.

normal fable
#

Reminds me.. I need to break out the old analog notebook more often...

split compass
#

Hey, so it all comes down to routing.
Well mostly, but if you set up a pfsense VM, it will block/filter whatever you configure it to filter.
You get to define how your network flows, what systems are pointed to the pfSense as next-hop etc.
Don't get hung up on "what will it do" and just think "What do I want to accomplish, how do I MAKE it do."

split compass
# crude stump Thank you

NP.
It's easy to get bogged down by intended use/purpose.
Need to step back, and ask "At the core of it, what is this thing actually doing?"

normal fable
#

And the more important "How can I make it do what I want?" As you said.

#

Reminds me of the old days when I had to write my own shellcode.. 🀣

I'm going to regret not ordering one more FrameWork module than I did. The Ethernet module sticks out a bit, would be nice to swap it out when I'm not using it.

normal fable
#

The reason I didn't go framework... One of..

hasty tusk
split compass
#

Framework 16 from Batch 23

#

I'm pretty happy with it so far, only had it a few weeks. Running on Nobara right now.

#

I haven't checked how many cats I can hash yet.

normal fable
#

Probably a good few...

split compass
#

I bought my SSD and my RAM separate because I could source them cheaper myself.

hasty tusk
#

it looks good, im gonna buy one, i like there methodology with it

split compass
#

Yeah, you can get equivalent hardware cheaper.
They use Insyde H20 BIOS, which I HATE, mostly because it doesn't expose much.
But people are working on the coreboot project (Slowly)

#

But I want to support the mission, so used my tax return money towards this and some other nice non-essentials

normal fable
#

I use my tax money on a ASUS A16...

split compass
#

Hmm, also I still have only opened the page for programming my RGB Unicorn Puke macropad, but have not actually done anything with its config yet πŸ˜„

normal fable
#

I got similar specs as the framework but a little cheaper. Lol

split compass
#

Yeah, exactly.
This was a specific purchase only because I wanted to support the repairability goals, AND because I like what they did RE: 3d print files when they outmoded their first gen motherboards so people could turn them into low-power home servers.

#

Also, cool that the BIOS just has a single mode flip you can press to disable all the checks for the connected hardware so it doesn't freak out about not having its laptop periferals.

normal fable
#

Good reasoning. My major concern was with the waste.. but that's just personal stuff I guess. There is a bit of e-waste from everything though...

#

Did a LOT of research before deciding.

split compass
#

Yep, there is.
And regarding waste, there was one piece of plastic in the packaging, everything else was recyclable tree products.

normal fable
#

Love that.

split compass
#

I should poke some of the hardware and low-level programmer folks at work to learn about BIOS hacking. Maybe I could contribute to the coreboot efforts.

Some dns servers can have pre-cached domains ( they have the dns connected to the destination ip put together already ). Also some DNS servers might be closer to where you are geographically and be able to take on more load which is why a dns server may give you a faster connection

And whenever you have an idea about automating something, try it! No matter how impossible it may seem.

#

Because of strongly typed variables and all that.

#

Have not used it in ages tho.

#

I think I'd actually suggest starting out with Java or C#.
Yea, it'll be more difficult to get into it, but you gain a much deeper understanding of what your computer is doing then when you use Python.

'Cus Python just does everything for you (which is honestly very convenient).

# crimson frigate Honestly I am so new to all of this I don't even understand that question

Penetration tests will have various different scopes.

Sometimes it's just a specific IP, or web app, sometimes it's any digital surface (everything the Internet touches.)
Sometimes it's the people too (phishing, vishing, smishing)
Sometimes it's the building itself. So you may be able to go on-site, set up discrete access points, connect systems to unused ethernet access ports, gain access to their server room, etc.

# crimson frigate Forgive all the stupid questions I'll be asking while I'm here. What is hahed an...

hashing is a mathimatical formula that takes one input and produces a unique output for said input so that if a single bit changes the hash changes..... it can not be reversed

for passwords the website you are trying to login to hashes what you put in the password field and compares it to their stored hash
if they match you get logged in
if they don't it throws an error

salts are there for if 2 users have the same password and the hash database leaks you want them to look different
so you add a random string to be hashed together with the password
