A) if you get stopped by the police after removing a legally required safety device (especially if it's for speeding) then that's probably jail time.
B) All UK cars need to go for an annual checkup called an MOT. I would be amazed if the mechanics certified to conduct an MOT weren't required by law to report any illegal modifications.

TL;DR: most UK cars are manual transmission. Part of the test was the assessor telling you to stop on a hill. They then got out and stuck a matchbox behind one of your wheels, then told you to do a hill start.

If you rolled back by even a centimetre or so, you'd crush the matchbox, which was a fail.
