Technically certs that don't expire are scams. To be accredited at least in the US by ANSI and thus considered a legitimate credential (by more than just reputation alone) it needs to expire / have renewal/continuing education requirements.

C++ is kind of the hardest OOP language. Java is like an easier more verbose version of C++. Both Python and Ruby are OOP languages, but Ruby has far superior OOP (ex: you don't have to explicitly specify self as an argument to methods). There's even a book called "Practical Object Oriented Design in Ruby" that covers common OOP patterns. I'd consider learning Python or Ruby first, as they are also often used for random scripting and automated stuff. Edit: saw that your goal is Operating Systems. OSes are typically written in C, not C++. C++ is still heavily used in user applications (web browsers, games, etc) and even systemd. C is far more popular for low level stuff.

D) when you're learning Linux, you can really mess up. Best do this in a VM rather than your host
