aaaaand think that fixes the theming issues shadow had at the start of the day
Yay sounds successful
@boreal scarab some doofus tried to carry a prusa printer by the spool holder and pretty much broke every printed part upon impact. I am the lucky one to now repair it while others do boring work like cleaning
cleaning is boring?
Yes
well cleaning two whole work areas in preparation for painting is pretty boring.
It must be done but itโs still boring
Well I enjoy cleaning, its satisfying
I enjoy cleaning my own room more than work
ThinkPads
any of yall have good documentation for c++ sdbus stuffs (pref. async)
they are my go to choice and the newer models can support win 11
but the older ones are the coolest since they are one of the few laptop models you can actually repair and upgrade
+they are bullet proof
win11 wasnt my first thought when i read cybersecurity laptop
Wbu Dell Xps??
she later on said that it would be nice to supp w 11
had a dell, battery life time was sad
still catching up lol
couldn t figure out the bios
the bios on Latitudes are so baren
was going to get the xps but too many bad rewiews
+keyboard got water damaged just from my gamer sweat
WIsh I was kidding
I do have the simple syntax for c++
like basics, var declaration, loops, decission structures
When I was at a hackathon one of the guys there gave me the best and simplest definition for async
take it with a grain of salt since I didn t program since there
but imagine async to be a thread you can split into more smaller threads which are not dependent on one another
usually with async functions you start a long running program but are responsive to other tasks while that program runs rather than having to wait until it is finished
w3school never let me down
if you want to take a glance into it ig is the best place to begin
i have my doubts about w3 having much material on the use of dbus to manage and monitor systemd services ๐ถ
ohhh
yeah
my knowledge in c++ is shallow since I only did it in school or at hackathons
what would you even need to know for this type of tasks?
nah actually I just realized how dumb I am rn
brb gotta lock in
working on a graphical interface for service management and such
so it is UI+data?
why choose dbus, I never heard anyone interested in it
apparently my "16gb stick" is just 3.7gb
Oof, where did you get it from?
its like 20 years old
Oh, lol
gotta get a new stick just to install windows on new pc
oh what, storage is so cheap nowadays. 10 bucks for 128GB
Oh
dbus is just a standard way for two programs to (request to) communicate with one another --- there aren't many other ways to do so unless explicitly designed with an api or something else explicitly exposed via another means
in this case, just how i gotta communicate with systemd
stupid question, at what store do you buy microfiber cloths
what type/pile
like for monitor
if you want something with a deeper pile to clean tons of dust and crap you can get those from automotive places, even
if you want the flatter kind (i.e. for glasses) to clean smudges and stuff as well, then a lot of tech places may have some. eye places will only have small clothes for glasses, but similar material. a lot of generic big box stores have options sitting around
otherwise interwebs
๐ ight thanks

Itโs really hard to put a computer into spaceโฆ so ha...
hey this is cool
space servers
yea. It'll be interesting at what point they consider using the starlink network to transmit data.
Guys I just bought Dion training comptia a+ course and I scored 60%, do you think I can take the real test?
well time to slowly fix my sleep schedule. nighty.
Night
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
I'd study a bit more an trying to score higher, I'm not sure what is the passing grade, but if it's 60 it's just one step from fail, 60 isn't a great score. If you take into account, tiredness, nerves for the exam, etc. those can contribute to lower the great so 60 it's borderline
ngl i've never even heard of percentages being used for comptia exams, always points
not sure how i'd equate the two
SBT exams are the only I can think of rn that actually grade by %

Also what the hell is a robo war dog
Like a literal robot dog used for war?
And Ur telling me u found an exploit in that
I was wondering ๐ญ because if i did I sure wouldn't be asking about it
hello everyone I'm new onTHM and I'm tryng toget some help with nmap room
Go ahead
Why are NULL, FIN and Xmas scans generally used?
They are stealthier than using a SYN scan
I tried and its giving me wrong answer
Firewall evasion
yes sir , Thanks so much
no they aren't
is any topic in this server where i can send printscreen to ask a question?
That's literally what the room tells you
"All three are interlinked and are used primarily as they tend to be even stealthier, relatively speaking, than a SYN "stealth" scan."
Yeah, that's straight up wrong
Well how was I meant to know that
What room is it in?
If you think about it, it doesn't make sense
When would you ever seen those packets 'legit'
You wouldnt
I self my myself, and now I'm trying to get serious with my cybersecurity career
I think windows automatically ignores them
if they make it to windows, your FW isn't doing it's job
Yeah
The room says that the windows firewall would send back RST for every port
So it's kind of contradicting
Firewall Evasion isn't the same as stealth
That's hoping the FW is from 1999 and doesn't understand what is happening
๐ญ
Any potato IDS will flag on those packets btw
The room is right, but I would add a footnote there ๐
Yeah I didn't really pay close attention to that part of the room since it literally says they are irrelevant
Do you have some tips??
For your career?
Tryhackme has actually taken my life over, I have my final exams coming up and I was meant to study for them but instead I've been doing tryhackme rooms all day
It's addicting
yes for my career
study comp sci/ comp engineering
Working on it
Any idiot can learn the security part, it's the understanding of the layers below that matter the most
You can learn how many places of security?
THM,HTB,OFFSec
I did part 1 of nand2tetris and it was amazing
How many places teach the engineering?
Funnily enough the exams I'm meant to be studying for right now are so I can get a course in comp sci
Univiersities and that's about it
Any idiot can learn the security part
You say this...
this boot camp wants to charge me $16.600 for 8 months
I wanna do part 2 Iโm just busy
They can, but they just don't want too ๐
Engineering turmps everything
The trainees we select, engineers and comp sci
They can, but they just don't want to
You say this...
We teach them proper security then
Itโs a Muiri!
If you manage to teach my mother the basics of digital security you'll be doing far better than I
And not for lack of trying either
Oh, there are some caveats ๐ LIke if past a certain age, just unplug the internet haha
My mom takes notes. She never asks the same question cause she knows where to look
It's hard enough to teach them how to use any social media platform
My mom is also over 70, so itโs not an age thing
See, you say that, but my boss is older than my mother
... Then again, I'm seeing some benefits to that strategy
Muiri ๐
70? Mine's in her early 50s
how are you?
Nae bad, and you?
There is so much money in CyberSEc, that it's poisoned Cyber Sec
You see it with FOSS tools going closed source, big companies not providing any support to little FOSS devs
Every school clamoring to build out any sembelence of a program they can
MOst of it is garbage
Engineering is the secret
in bed with a heavy cold/flu
When I was a kid I thought engineers only worked on engines :/
mine too ๐
Computers make the world go round ๐
Lol
Facetiousness aside, I do agree, honestly.
Security knowledge is weaker than a house of cards if you don't have the underlying foundations
If you don't properly understand the technology, how the hell are you hoping to control it?
I see it constantly, ESPECIALLY WITH AI
"Lets spend 300K to hire a prompt engineer"
INSTEAD OF COMING UP WITH AI THAT DOESN"T NEED THAT PROMPT BABYING
What do you mean? Googleโs AI has been spitting out absolute gems recently โค๏ธ
Core-JS is a very sad example of this โน๏ธ
It's going to be the end of society, but only because of laziness and highlight stupidity
Man, don't go there. I spent most of the last week trying to come up with strategies for LLM security testing
What's that? Tell me more plz
indeed, you can't protect, or simulate an attack on something you don't know how it works ๐
@graceful thistle this is bad?
This seems exactly what I was talking about and not good ๐ฆ
yeah thats been going on for a while
It's what always bugs me with the whole "anyone can learn cybersecurity" thing.
Yes, sure, but should they? I'm all for tearing down barriers to entry / blitzing gatekeeping, etc, but there's gotta be a basic level of knowledge and skill in place or it's just dangerous.
They say security jobs aren't entry level. For the most part they're actually right.
Caveat to that is that we do obviously want to give graduates / entry level candidates a chance, but that must be done in a very controlled fashion.
I think most people forget how security started, and what the penalties were for getting it wrong.
I don't mind mentoring one or two people at a time who have very little background knowledge if they've got the right attitude to learn (in the understanding that they'll be learning lots of foundational stuff, and won't be unsupervised for quite some time).
Wowo is crazy how none technical security jobs getting 100of application
They really don't.
Non-technical security is primarily GRC and policy, that's not exactly a thing most people (even security people) want to dive in to.
What do you mean?
Amen
I was looking around in LinkedIn I saw one security job opening and I open it and it had 100 applications in 1 hour how I am going compete that
I actually agree with that for the physical side of pentests too.
So many think it's just I will go and get paid to break into a place.
If you want to do it, it's a legal minefield, you need solicitors to write contracts and then you still need to do a report and be willing to potentially be arrested.
Also hello all
Be the best
Hello all, I have a quick question regarding the verification process
indeed, a lot of people want into cybersec because it's trendy and looks cool, they learn soft that make thing automatic, but they don't go to the basics, those are the most dangerous people. Like a monkey with a knife ๐
Go on
learn the hard stuff, that's why everyone is doing CyberSEc and not engineering
"I don't want the math"
What the hell do you think the math is there for? Fun?
It's important
Agree with that
Monkey with a knife
Lmfao. True though.
Trendy, looks cool, and pays well.
Everyone want free six figure jobs like TikTok influencer say
What is this unsupervised life
As far as the phone number verification process, is there a way to request a "do not sell" and ask for a "remove my info"? I don't want my new number to be able to found by scraping bots or OSINT tools
They also just see the so-called million dollar salaries people brag/advertise to sell courses
in spanish they say como mono con escopeta (Like a monkey with a machine gun) ๐
Phone number verification for what?
@whole yew HYD!
man can they pay well tho (beyond entry)
LMFAO
hey toaster
I'm gonna use that
So you say but I would love to look at logs all day
Go monkey!
For this server? It insisted on me providing a phone number in order to allow me to speak here. Would have used a spoofed number, but it required payment to receive automated texts
That's a Discord thing, not a THM thing. Best reaching out to their support for that one
I believe if you verify your account with the site here, thereby getting a role, the requirement should be lifted without having to use your phone number?
That's discord that's responsible for the information not this server.
The server requires anyone here to have verified with discord their phone number to prevent spam etc.
Need to reach out to discord.
I like it, go investigate, using terminal, and get lost in a rabbit hole, but it's not for everybody ๐
Oh yeah. Forgot about that one

That said, fact they're talking means they already did it
Yes, well better late than never I guess ๐
This is trueโฆ I usually rabbit hole a ton
Damn man, that sucks. Discord gets hit all the time. Ok, thanks all. I'll do a quick research and hopefully get the info removed.

Hey lads, I know this probably have been asked million of times, but is there any ETA on Dark Theme for THM? Can't bother with extensions, really.
Well we've been waiting for over 4 years so
lol
Who knows
Yeah about that
DarkReader is the unoffical THM extension
Might be in 2120 we'll get it
one of the mysteries of the universe ๐
classic
I was reading something in their blog, perhaps 2-3 months ago where they stated its WIP
How hard is it really to implement a dark theme?
๐คฃ
Not hard
its just not their priority I guess
That is a question they have had for decades since we moved from MSDOS
I was hoping with the UI overhaul we'd get it โน๏ธ
Same
But maybe there's still stuff to iron out
Thanks man

people weren't move from dos, they were actually pushed and kickout ๐
Might need to get a role here first though so you are able to type without the phone number
you started to have less and less soft and thing to do in dos and had not choice to join win or early version of Linux or Unix
I've been reading bad things about Dark Reader, haven't really researched more though
I just run Ubuntu server these days
Switched to 24.04* yet?
God no, I can't afford everything at work to break ๐
nop yet
hehe fair ๐๐
The new installation setup is really nice
Correction, duct tape, zip ties, prayers and tears
I have the pro support so I have years ahead of security updates, atm I don't have any pressing issues that would make me upgrade to 24.04 for the moment I'll stay confy here ๐
You know those expired antivirus popups like mcafee? well I just downloaded a vpn and currently connected to a south korean server, so a couple popups showed in korean
No, but it keeps giving me popups to renew or something
Haven't used an antivirus in quite a while
That's either malware/malicious notifications on a browser or you've got it installed
Vernal are you on windows
Wrong person
Kekw
yeah i have windows and idk how to uninstall mcafee
I've never liked that soft, John McAfee was a weird but fun guy I met him once in a airport layover
The reason I ask is because I was taking a look at my processes and I noticed a Mcaffee process was running. I looked up mcaffee and it was on my computer but not signed in. Idk if it comes with windows or what
Go monkey!
Sometimes it's preinstalled by the manufacturer
Yeah
It could be that mabye
That gun is probably more safer in the monkeys hands than with some...other people
Kid bill gates
Most likely. It's a pain to remove when installed by the OEM
I have a question, do you think I'm better off specializing in computer systems for my comp sci degree (general software engineering) or specializing in cyber sec, or I could do a cyber sec degree if I choose after I do computer systems (going to be another 4 years added on + have to pay for a separate degree)
Even John McAfee hated the software in the end
Should be banned. If a vendor advertises Win10/11 they should deliver Win10/11 and not "a modified Win10/11 with some added advertisement that takes expert knowledge to remove"
The fact you have to buy a licence to activate it to remove it is criminal
Funnily enough there was just a discussion about this, I think the general consensus is going for the general comp science degree will give you a stronger foundation/base to build up from than a cyber one
Yeah
The cyber sec degree goes through computer science in general for the first year anyway
Also "cyber security" degrees come with the risk of not being taken (as) seriously. There's a lot of them now because it's trendy.
But that's what I was thinking too
I think comp sci is trendy in general at the moment
Heard that people aren't even getting job offers anymore
And a high drop out rate
It's like the default degree everyone chooses now because they hear it's about computers
Do comp sci in general! Then you have loads of options and fallbacks if cyber doesn't work out for you or you realise it's not for you
Yeah that's what I was worried about, I've always wanted to do comp sci (been wanting to do it since I was a kid) but I'm very into cyber sec right now
But I agree
I could end up doing cyber sec and find out it's not for me
So glad my workplace only offers it as a module and not as an entire degree
And the only part of cybersec that I really enjoy (at the moment, I'm not far into the tryhackme rooms) is the pentesting/red teaming part and I feel like cybersec is much more than that which I could find boring
In regards to bots and other automated scripts/processes, what exactly is the functionality of the "disallow bots" in a website? To prevent scraping? But even then, it still gets scrapped by people?
Or do I have the wrong understanding of it?
well the bad actors will break the rules.... but generalyl if you are blocking bots it is mostly the good people who will accept your terms of service and not abuse it
while scrappers or bots abusing the api can be banned on the spot for breaking tos sometimes after they already got the data
Comp sci isnโt trendy, itโs classic
Yeah but unfortunately right now a lot of people are taking comp sci degrees because they look at it and think it is something completely different
robots.txt is a hint for those who want to recognize it. It prevents nothing if people ignore it.
What do they think it is?
I don't know really but they just see it is computer related and just go for it even if they don't have an interest in programming
Hence the very high drop out rate, atleast where I live
I find it weird that a lot of people do that
High drop out rate when I was in school for that meant usually they tried learning to but couldnโt
But they knew it was programming
@sand trench In your opinion, is there really such a thing as privacy when it comes to the Internet? I mean, you view one page of an ice cream cone and next day you visit Facebook, then Facebook is filled with advertisements for ice cream cones. Not only that though, the whole "share with near devices" fucntion works both ways as well. As soon as you get in proximity to your friend, suddenly, their Facebook also gets filled with ads for ice cream cones
Apparently I bore her
Yeah nowadays they just see the big salaries and go "oh I love playing video games on my computer I should go for it"
Iโm about to get lunch!
yes privacy exists online.... using facebook kinda hurts your privacy a bit but depending on your threat model it can fit in there
nah just tired as moops
Wanting to make video games is still a valid reason to get into comp sci ๐ my opinion
your level or privacy can be different from shadows
Time for sleep sloops meep moops?
it is a large scale of deepness
yeah technically... but feeling like answer your question first
Yea but they don't realize it's a lot of maths and it's actually pretty tough
Depending on where you spawn also dictates what level of privacy you will get with the government/police
Most of my year are looking to do computer related degrees
threat modeling is a huge part of security and privacy
and to an extent anonymity if you aim for that but good luck
I guess the most important question as far as privacy goes that I have is, if companies are making money from our cookies and personal info, why aren't we receiving a cut? I feel we are viewed more as a "product" than a consumer.
i.e what are you trying to protect... and from whom... and for what reason...
Also where you live will dictate the level of privacy.
If you live in the city you won't get much and if you live in the sticks you'll more than in the city
yeah fair... this is why shadow cut out a lot of services like facebook and instagram and whatsapp and telegram
rarely relevant as most people don't take that into their threat models
They should tho. Especially with facial/gait recognition getting insanely accurate and accessible
that is where voting for politics and voting with your wallet applies
also most swedish people don't grow their own food so anyways are at supermarkets hence their faces are most likely recorded
there is very little most people can do about that
I feel it is important to frequently perform OSINT scans on yourself. Never know what kind of info is floating around, I performed one on myself. Iy was scary, I found my phone number, all past addresses, current address, family members, and even people I've associated with frequently, such as close friends
and due to data and privacy laws in sweden the threat modeling for it gets weird
still for a lot of people it is not relevant if their market place got their face and payments on file
it is more about what data they share online
We have had students protesting recently at my workplace because we now have facial recognition software enabled on our camera
and what creeps and or bad actors can do with it
i.e are you more affraid of your ex trying to do bad stuff against youj
It is okay for people to try something and realize itโs not for them. Itโs not what they want to do. Or find out theyโre not good at it.
It is very good of them to try
or some worker at the food market selling your data or facial recognition you
I completely agree, but a lot are getting into it for the wrong reasons
What's really scary is, the fact of how easy it all is.
What makes it a wrong reason? Are they becoming criminals?
yeah fair... still for a huge portion of people who just start into privacy the problems of stores using facial recognition is lost and not something to even think of as the stores are not their threats in the threat models
No as in, they're just choosing it because it is what everyone else is choosing and it pays good
For instance, if you took a selfie at home and texted a friend but accidentally sent it to wrong number, that person could easily extract metadata and find precise Geo location of your house
The cut is the free services you get to use. Including this one here.
Like if Ur interested in it u should definitely try
also if you want people to worry about facial recognition
it is also time to worry about the following:
loss of private payment methods like cash
built in backdoors into intel processors( intel me )
built in backdoors into amd processors ( amd psp )
Pretty much any people
when shadow holds guns everyones feet are inside the range
The thing to remember is this: If a service is free, then YOU are the product they're selling.
Yeah well, we've been transparent on the usage of it and that it doesn't store information unless you are on the ban list (i.e you've been kicked out of university and that it's serious enough that we ban you or you pose a threat to the community) it won't do anything with the data.
Those on the ban list have their facial recognition cross-checked by a human after a positive detection
yeah that sounds reasonable and most people would probably not flinch hard on that....
So only those who choose it because everyone else is choosing it and for money is wrong? ๐ค
unless someone argues for the gdpr while they are on the ban list but that an edge case
Well it's not wise if you know that you know what your interests are but you ignore them, if you don't know what to do then it's a pretty good course to choose imo
Yeah they willingly submitted a photo for a student ID knowing it can be used for identification and security purposes and can be passed onto law enforcement for legitimate policing purposes
backdoor in processors?
since when
...
They gave you two systems as examples. Go and research.
for intel: since 2008
The Intel Management Engine (ME), also known as the Intel Manageability Engine, is an autonomous subsystem that has been incorporated in virtually all of Intel's processor chipsets since 2008. It is located in the Platform Controller Hub of modern Intel motherboards.
The Intel Management Engine always runs as long as the motherboard is receiving...
good read on the topic
hi
Government here in USA actually made a phone, was supposed to absolutely amazing for security and privacy. It was a honeypot operation though designed to lure and trap hackers via a backdoor they built in before releasing the phone and having it sold on the black market
I know the thing I wanna do in my life doesnโt make money but I like living. I just think people in college are still trying to find out what they like and what they wanna do. If itโs wrong to go after anything but your passion then many might need help living because money is required for living.
though if that is inside your threat model shadow has heavy doubts why you are on discord
yeah that whole deal has happened a lot
But your not going to have money if you choose a course that you ultimately hate and not succeed at
But aside from that, everyone is different. Some people can do a good job with their profession and their profession doesnโt become their life. They balance life in their own way. Let them choose a path, and leave it if they find out itโs not a good fit for them
Maybe there's several such operations, but the famous one I'm aware of was not targeted at hackers but at organized mafia-style crime like drug dealing
And it lead to hundreds if not thousands of arrests worldwide
yeah the targets were organised crime people
See thatโs two things youโre combining. Hating something and also failing it. Some people hate a class but they refuse to let themselves fail it
Yeah sorry, organized crime
One doesnโt lead or equate to the other
Some people love a class and still fail it
Are they better? Because they want that profession?
list of low hanging fruit to improve privacy:
change browser from google chrome to firefox or brave
change search engine from google or bing to duckduckgo or other alternatives
limit the amount of extensions in your browser
There is one thing that shouldn't be allowed though, and that is (at least with Google) recording people without their knowledge or permission. Although, they get away with it due to fine print in service agreements which they intentionally make extremely long because they know no one is going to read the whole thing
I have a simple fix to improve privacy! Wanna know it?
that is why privacy laws and legistation is important to help everyone get better privacy
see gdpr
sure go ahead....
Return to monkey. Ditch technology and go and live deep in the woods.
I HATE picking new laptop's/tech for relatives
that is not required for privacy for most people... but at that point you are also aiming for anonymity
Catalog, dartboard, darts ๐
Wouldn't help a whole lot lol. Not with everyone in the world owning Ultra HD Drones that can fly to your location and spy on you ๐
I looked at over 800 laptops
But whyyyyy!!!
to be honest wide shadow sees most of your points as counter productive for someone just willing to improve their privacy above the baseline layer of nearly having none
To find the cheapest and best one
DEEP IN THE WOODS.
Plus drones are actually quite easy to evade with the correct cover and concealment
i.e
do not let perfect be the enemy of the good
You refering to me Mrs. Shadow?
Most can be categorized by parts.
nope refering to official wide boi
800 different combos is kinda crazy
I did, applied 23 filters on ebay
still had to go through every laptop
@sand trench when did you get married ;_; I didnโt get invited to wedding
I'm just joking about.
I actually don't care about my privacy, there's nothing much more I can do.
Lol so is home security systems as long as you have a wifi jammer apparently. I read about that a while ago
fair but fear mongering about facial recognition seems unhelpfull... still thanks for clarifying

yeah
Why are there helicopters flying over my apartment
shadow called and wrote to their EU representative to more or less ban facial recognition in the EU..... don't recall the current stance
They've trialed them in London for the police. (Caught a load of wanted individuals)
Retail stores in the UK are installing them to try and deal with the level of retail crime and abuse.

In June 2023, the European Parliament made history when it voted in favour of a total ban on live facial recognition in public spaces. Through the new artificial intelligence bill, the EU could stop companies and authorities from treating us all as walking barcodes.16 Nov 2023
Dang I wanna know whatโs going on
Felt like you were
sooo yeah that went well
how do i change it to usa?
I wonder, is it true the reason why flaws in software are called "bugs" is because in the first ever made computer, issues arose due to actual bugs crawling through the the structure?
Theyโre after me!!! They had helicopters circling my place!!!
How do you change what to usa? The server?
Or the OVPN?
my profile to usa. Im trying to get a subscriptiom
Just a thought experiment.
If you go into a help channel in a community run discord and ask a question but get no answer.
Do you feel entitled to that answer?
Should be located in account settings on main account
Feath3rz! What did you do?!
Omg I looked up what our police helicopter looks like; definitely was them haha
I chose the wrong profession!!
What would police deploy helicopters forโฆ murder?
I don't feel entitled to the answer, I sometimes feel ignored, or feel like I'm asking dumb questions. Most times, i either feel as though no else knows the answer, or is isn't active, or that they just aren't in the mood to tolerate trying to work through someone else's issue
Person(s) at large.
Vehicle chases.
Missing people.
Loads of reasons.
often it's car chase stuff that turns into urban parkour. If someone does a runner, they'll use the heli to mark while the officers pursue on foot.
both in the UK so not under EU legislation but yeah fair
Ahh hmmmm
Yeah I know, thought you might be interested to use that bottom one to your MEP
They deploy them all the time to use infrared scanners to locate marijuana growth and go in to chop them down
Don't need a helicopter for that. They've got handheld ones, drones and snow for that
Thatโs for sure. But this very urban. No cane fields :3 usually they hide them in those lol
*can't stop laughing at home many crypto miners got caught as weed growers thanks to the infrared scanners
huge heat output
must be growing weed
One last thing and I'll stop my ranting
Or electricity bill
Thanks the response, is interesting for sure the different answers from another server to this
Gave +1 Rep to @versed veldt (current: #2084 - 1)
Yaaaaah, don't think they can get a warrant just based on "infrared"
I think i am understanding that is more an emotional response to being ignored. Some people process that in different ways.

No warrant, they just observe the location for a while trying to see if anyone comes by to tend to crops, then eventually they chop it all down and confiscate it wether or not they know who owns it
Take it home forโฆ analysis
Bur if it's in a legal state, that causes many problems.
For NJ, you can't grow it unless you have a cultivator license, bur there is a bill to allow growing. But some states you can grow, so going in and chopping it down is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Also, they still need a warrant to do that, even if it's in your yard, it's your property
I donโt touch the stuff. Iโm cleeaaaannnnnn
Back to my final rant, I know quantum computers aren't as well suited as super computers are, but in terms of EXTREME security and privacy, They're "allegedly" making an "unhackable quantum computer".
Legal here, so take a guess. Helps me stay asleep and not wake up in the middle of the night.
Heard of this and Iโm curious
Now before I get bonked on the head.... moving on
They say that for everything thatโs new but someone always finds a way
But on the other end of the spectrum, while it's possible for every state in the U.S to have it legalized, it is still illegal on a federal level, and the government can crack down and send everyone in the U.S who owns pot straight to prison lol.
Mmm hacking a quantum computer. Love me some atom hacking
Does anyone here know K8s really well?
Nope. On federal installations, yes. But state installations, or your own property, they can't.
Also if you cross any state border with it, prison
No but I can probably bullshit an answer for you lol
@hot cairn Emma, Toaster needs a K8s expert.
Beep beep motha trucker!
Also. They are reclassifying it as Schedule III and not Schedule I anymore
Trust me, I smoke it, I read all the legal crap along with it.
This first part of your message is incorrect. Feds, with a warrant, can raid just about anywhere in the US.
Tribal Lands and Military installations are a bit different.
Ah, the first one to do so would have to have an extremely high IQ though with a damn good understanding of quantum mechanics, the gates it uses, and even to just simply intercept a message, one would have to excel at quantum mechanics and fully understand super positioning. Because I send message A to lance, and jim tries to intercept, but is unable to do so due to the quantum super positioning of the qubits which can't be replicated or duplicated. If message A is tampered with in any way and doesn't immediately get sent to lance, the message ultimately "gets lost" and for Jim the message would be "destroyed".
Military installations usually have there own investigators and police
Who built the quantum computer
People
Yup
"marines arrested in formation"
Thank you
Not saying it's impossible, just saying he would have to be a smart cookie to do so lol.
Not even I fully understand the gates lol, the ones I've worked with I know
I could rant about my thoughts on if the federal government raids many houses for legal (state level) growing, or smoking of weed.
I would think that would qualify as a tyrannical government at that point ๐ค
But there's some I never even heard of before lol
Some states state the amount of plants you can grow
NJ is a big fat 0... for now, there is a bill for 6 rec, 10 medical.
@crude stump Can I DM you real quick?
Sure
I tried fooling around with quantum programming. It's extremely complicated stuff
๐
The standard binary code is called Qubits, where a 0 can simultaneously be a 1 as well. It can be located at gate X, but also be entangled with another qubit located at gate Y
It's funny, until you read about the charges
Yeah
Yah it is
do harder rooms reward more points?
I think so
iirc, they just give the same amount
an easy room with 2 flags has the same points as a hard room with 2 flags
What I wanna know about THM is HOW the scoring system actually gives points. How do I get higher up on the room rank charts? I complete a room fully, it says I'm at the very bottom with like 80 points. Then there's a guy who also completely finished it, only he has 800 points.
Why the point difference? Did he perform a novel method? Was the one I used the same technique thousands of others used?
catnip โค๏ธ
Anyone have an idea about the scoring system??

idiot proof doesn't exist, because there are no cure for stupidity

seen it many times irl
seen people thinking a laptop is a touch screen beyond too many times and when it still doens't work still keep trying

ive been in here since 2020 and im just now getting started with wanting to do it as a career
Hello, i have windows 7 32bit operating system can i run buripsuit etc type software in this system and start my career as Ethical hacker from scratch? Please anyone reply.
Youโd need to download a very old one
I didn't realize 32bit was still used anywhere
Fairly sure people responded to you yesterday
Also, unless you have an environment constraint, you really shouldn't be using Windows 7. The security hole is a mile wide.
Windows 10 was a free upgrade, that window (pun intended) has been sunset though
Yes a lots of people are using windows 7. I am Just asking, will buripsuit software work in this window.
Well i downloaded visual studio code in 32bit and it's working great so i don't think it is bad.
FML, windows 7 was released 16 years ago
me running the same script again hoping it will work and it sometimes does
not a client but an aunt with the same thing
can't 32bit windows only take like 4gb of ram?
yup
๐ i know my computer i have from 2007 by the way.
where 16bit windows?
My computer has 2 GB Ram.
i would die
https://youtube.com/shorts/a47Mnyjv06U?si=0zLaKbJV_JI62rNM
Mmmmmmm..... I...
Tbh, there's probably a Linux distro that's made for situations like this
most of them
With security updates
There's a 32 bit Kali image
AI RAM
Dodge Ram.
Does would burpsuite would on a 32 bit MacBook from 2019 with 8gb RAM (Linux VM tho)
wait 32bit macs could have 8gb? didn't even realize
Coz it doesnโt come pre installed the vm
Wouldn't be 32 bit, even if it was from 2009 that would be 64-bit.
that's the limitation of 32bit, it can't handle more than 4gb
Ah
I always thought it was 32 bit lmao
Coz I searched it up ages ago and thatโs what google told me
32 and 64 were side, by side for a while
So you should be fine on linux with 8gb ram. I have Kali running in a VM with 8gb ram and Burp Suite runs fine
I'm going off of everymac.com, so the data could be wrong. Either way, there's no way Apple sold a 32 bit macbook in 2019
That's what I'm running
the community linux x64
No problem!
Oh, if you run into burp suite's browser not launching, try installing chromium. That fixed it for me.
I have say that my Mac is 8gb ram, so the VM would be less

Are you wanting to run it in a VM or on your linux install on your mac?
Looks like the min ram is 4gb
Iโve got an m-series MacBook but it canโt use the x86 broken vm which I need for the the assignment
And no I didnโt know about Apple silicons inability to use x86 VMs when I got it
I don't have any M series Apple machines, so I haven't had to fiddle with that. You could always look into a cloud based VM, but it's not free. Linode is good and not very expensive, especially if you only need to run it for a few hours.
You can do it by the hour, I recommend using the shared CPU machines for something like this. If you have an ISO of the VM, apparently you can upload it. I haven't tried that feature.
I'm heading out for the night. Feel free to DM me if you have any other questions.
Canโt thank you enough for this ๐

genal question pay $ 16000 for 8 moths for compTIA test is ok?
i'm sorry, what?
U had me at the 16000 part
also 8 months? 8 months what
*general question
that's not the part we were confused about, lol
Link the site or course
this boot camp wants to charge $ 16,000 for 8 months of CompTIA+
okay that's the part that was left out, it's a boot camp
i think that's insane, personally, but ๐คทโโ๏ธ
what certs do they provide
there ARE some good bootcamps, but they don't have the best rep for the most part
a couple local ones are getting sued as well for overpromising career outlooks after going through them
You could probably find better online for free
i think so too but I'm not an expert I'm just a beginner, but I know Linux in and out
curious -- is that 8 months of like one night a week or is it like 8 months of several hours every day of the week
Thereโs ton on YouTube
but i know linux inside and out
already ahead of many
twice a week 3.5 hours
Is it in person, zoom or all online?
zoom
that sounds more expensive than what i would've paid at the expensive Unis around here for actual credits
Which certs are u looking for?
just the a certification
Just the A+?
CompTia+ security
12 credit hours (what it sounds like you'd be doing time-wise) at Seton Hall up the road is 17,880.
Just for perspective
unless you meant 3.5hrs /wk TOTAL, then that's even more comparably expensive
I feel that the course is for people that never use a computer before or have never heard about any code or Windows "CMD "command
could be for anyone. my gripe is the cost
Honestly sounds like a scam
I would first scoured YouTube or coursera and find something who u like before u commit to 16k
But itโs up to u
yeah that link does nothing for people w/out an acct
UNVL?
i assume uni nevada @ LV
yep
Ye I googled it
Iโm Australian so I wouldnโt know the costs of a course over there
university of nevada las vega
๐
isa juun
for $16k USD I'd expect to get at least a dozen certs from CompTIA
If it's JUST A+/Net+ hard pass
the CompTia is like what?? $450 dollars maybe?? from the CompTIA Website
I tihnk I paid $410 or something for Pentest+
Pentest+ beta is only $36 right now.
that is what I was thinking but the instructor was telling us about the training that they offer so we can pass the test
What? Scrubz link. On the atual comptia page, PT+ exam is $404
so help me out here everyone, CompTia+ security its one cert right?
2 mins.
Security+ is an intermediate level cert that is widely considered to be an antry point to security roles.
It assumes knowledge of A+ and Network+.
maybe click that link, scrubz
so I'm aiming to pentester ffield
@shut hawk got it for ยฃ30
It's beta, I wouldn't recommend betas to anyone. Because they are broken by design
If they were fixed, they'd be the actual
Pentest is not entry level to security
It's extremely rare that someone gets pentest as part of their job straight away.
I Know
To be honest, I wouldn't consider a pentest candidate unless someone has a M.Sc in CompSci/cybersec or 5 years in industry
junior Pen
That is for a junior pentester
There's a LOT of potential for risk and damage that a pentester can do accidentally
i thought you were gonna hardline it at M.Sc, lol
like woah now
Pentesting is part of my duties and responsibilities in my current role. I also do a lot of GRC and monitoring.
In the scale of things, where would I put a CCNA cert?
what I can think of is that, you know about cisco things and networking.
Ik, I mean itโs above a Comptia network cert?
depends
is it above Network+? yeah sure
is it above Pentest+? Completely different category
Kk
Coz I kmow I want to go into cybersecurity, I just donโt know which part yet
I do plan on getting a CCNA
If I do get the CCNA, should I bother getting a Net+ cert?
I don't think so!
since in my opinion CNNA adds 10%-20% things in your CyberSec career ig!
if you get the ccna skip net+ and use that money for other cert
Morning

(and I am currently getting ready for going for my drivers exam)
..you don't drive?
well it's called drivers test
well sure just contextually
well I am currently looking at a suzuki esx 750 from 86
the cb is a pretty solid choice -- standard as well so not painful to commute on lol
ahhhhhhh misread
esx also solid
86 tho? that's an interesting find. how much
sorry gsx 750 es*
yeah, 1400 USD
1400 is pretty good actually
always hard to tell when wet but it looks like they took care of it
yeah, they have, but they don't have the time for it anymore and therefore selling it, right in my neighbourhood
i'd probably toss the blinkers but ngl i'm not 100% sure about the fronts staying or going
the fronts have a part of the aestetic somehow
eu reg or
cause I am not allowed to drive 750's
yup
in 3 years I am
sad rule
can't imagine being limited to 500 for 3 years lol can't even commute on that -- you'd get flattened on the highway
well it's my license that says it
I only have a medium license
just happy I didn't take the small license (125cc)
yeah that's just not a thing over here, there are no levels
if you test on a trike you're restricted to a trike, but other than that there's no like power levels
there may also be an automatic restriction if you test on an auto but i'm not 100% on that
ye
Correction: Anyone who takes the test on a bike under 231cc is restricted to 500cc or less
However, nobody takes the test on that unless they're taking a lil moped everywhere
the licenses here are 18 years old = 125cc
20 years old = 500cc
24 years old (or had 500cc for 3 years) = unlimited
i would quite literally be unable to ride to work
less, take the much much longer non highway detour
if given the choice between train and bike can't believe it's not bike
I have 2 hours to work
k
approx 150km
i'd make that just for the hell of it
93 miles
i'd make that ride several times a week just cause
I will be taking the bike to school though
i'd ride out to another state just to get on the bike, lol
yeee
anyone heard of a royal enfield bullet?
oh well, time to go get ready and drive with my car the hard route we have a chance to get
it lightly rained both days of my riding course+test
my loaner bike also had a fucked throttle cable lol
so so so so so loose
Timur writing a book
idk why i didn't tighten it
oop
i've been wanting to say something abt it, lol
we had to take a course where my front bake was too loose
I've been riding an enfield bullet for the past 2 years, and this bike was made in 1989......
i stoppied the loaner bike by complete accident cause of the extremely loose throttle
and we had to do critical breaking
take care of these things and they last..and so easy to maintain
exactly
it was my grandpa's when he was in the Navy, my dad's when he was in the army, and mine from next month haha
the insurance for this bike for a year is a little higher than the monthly insurance of my car lmao
the only bike related thing my family has past down is an apparent pattern of being nailed by drunk drivers ๐ถ
family tradition
ouch
the last one was a fmr cop who wrote his own accident report, leaving particular details out, which didn't look too hot for em
Third day and I just got the clear picture of what I'm supposed to do
Just got into the Threat Intel team
@tired peak this is amazing
Congrats
tryhackme website is the best yoo literally how to be hacker without go to college and i have the community, we really livin in the peak age of connection and networking frfr
btw what language or apps they use to make the web site ??
Hello guys yesterday my laptop died and i am thinking of buying a new laptop what might be the best choice as i do code plus i am practising hacking too.
In france it's 16yo -> 125cc
18yo -> around 800cc
20yo -> unlimited
Depends on your use case.
You don'y need a beefy laptop for coding, but then it depend on how much virtualisation you plan on doing.
I do alot of virtualisation, and I have 64GB of RAM, I barely use all of it.
I don't game on my laptop so my Nvidia T500 is just used for password cracking, it's not great, but it does the job.
Yaa my current role that i am moving on to is SOC so in future i will be simulating few labs on my own to brush up my skills plus few red hat too
To be fair you probably won't do much password cracking
Most just settle for 32GB.
Nah, absolutely true.
This is what I work with.
Second hand high spec business laptop
W10 22H2, unsure if I should upgrade to 11.
The latitude 5400 is dirt cheap with the i7 8665u here
that with a 512GB hdd/sdd?
Probably not, unless it's pro or enterprise
Dam guys these are expensive almost close to macbooks pro with m2
It's Pro.
Even m2 macbook is cheap
I kinda prefer windows 10 my self
I am not quiet into windows 11
I think all Z books are shipped with Windows Pro.
Guys do you think gaming laptop is good to go with?
Every things is just more Sophisticated with windows 11
Depends, is it bulky and has a bulky PSU?
My friends suggest me to just buy desktop thinking about longevity of hardware
I can send you a link.. please share what you think
See the reason why i am no longer looking at gaming laptops is that they donโt provide much battery life
And the die early
I used to have acer nitro 5 i say this because it died yesterday
Same can be said of any laptop that runs > 3 vm's
Thatโs true too
Dam buying laptop these days is a mess
Am I allowed to share a store link here?
I can get about a full day on mine on optimal.
But there isn't very many places I go that doesn't have a power sockets.
Yeah
https://www.jw.com.au/product/msi-katana-15-b13vfk-15-6-fhd-laptop-i9-13900h-32gb-ram-2-5tb-ssd-rtx-4060-windows-11-home
This is the laptop I'm thinking to buy.
Providing it's not your own store,
that's actually a damn good laptop
I think a Uni peer has that laptop, it's got a big PSU.
I thought about building my on desktop with similar spec but 4070ti and rygen7600, instead of 4060.
That's exactly what I did lol, but with a 4070
But it'd cost me 1800 without peripherals
That laptop on sale right now costs 2200. Buy or no buy lol
Desktop parts will generally perform better than laptop parts for a given model, as they don't have the same power envelope
how much would peripherals cost?
It'd depend.. I don't have anything on mind at this stage I'm not fussy or picky but definitely would buy bigger screen or even 2
if you're looking for mobility and power, you can do what I did, get a decent tower, get a second hand macbook air(or any laptop) and remote into your PC
that's what I'm doing for uni
OR just get a powerful laptop
assuming you live in australia from the link you sent
Yes godd I got social engineered hehe
a 144hz monitor would cost you around 250$
Ummm
AUD*
I wouldnโt get a Apple silicon MacBook coz then you wouldnโt be able to run x86 VMs only arm64
and a keyboard, mouse and headset combo would cost around 160 AUD
It's a hard one
it sure is haha
Rosetta is a thing
also considering the laptop is on sale for a limited time, you should probably think fast
Laptop or desktop. I'm also going to college next year so maybe laptop is the better in that case.
Yess lol
if that's the case, I would HIGHLY recommend not getting a gaming laptop
Is that because of battery?
my notebook laptop weighs almost the same as a gaming laptop, and it was a pain to carry around
yes, but also very bulky cause you have to keep the hardware cool
Ahh so it's mobile but not really compared to others because it compensates for good specs?
well, I wouldn't say good either
mobile versions of components aren't very good compared to their full scale counterparts
True
Plus heat dissipation is also a problem
What ever you do you will have to deal with heat and dirt
gaming laptops quite literally defeat the purpose of a laptop
you will burn yourself if you put that thing on your lap

I don't think I've ever had my laptop on my lap
gm
๐
Nah that was true in like 2017 but we've come a long long way
Now it's just nvidia conning you by using the same model number
is not broken
if you had installed previous OS on it probs windows can t read it
go to disk management
select ur driver
departition all the memory
merge it
format and partition
first of all how did you find my message
second, nope nothing was on it for a long time. It was empty of as long as I can remember
Someone asked me a question just above ur message
try to departition
had the same happen
