Oh that, thought you meant blocking individual site

sinful moon
#

Yiss, uBlock Origin is love. For what it’s worth it can be deployed via GPO for all browsers if anyone is considering it for work. Adblockers are very effective in preventing many common scams, especially Google ad placement ones

#

Can also maintain custom filter lists via same GPOs, but honestly most can set it and forget it with how easy it is for end users to allow list a site (single large power button in the extension)

sand trench
#

ublock origin is so good that google is "killing" it by pushing manifest v3

sinful moon
#

Only if you’re using a shitty browser instead of godly Firefox <3

#

But yeah Manifest v3 is some bs for sure, Google for sure has a vested interest in harming adblockers in the name of “security” lol

sand trench
sinful moon
#

uBlock Origin Lite has been created as a Manifest v3 compliant alternative but far from ideal

sinful moon
sand trench

Yeah it at least does something but dramatically limited in terms of how large their filtering lists can go

Something something, maybe it’s a bad idea for 80%+ of web users to all use a single browser engine 🙃

sinful moon

Significantly more expensive in the US, but that goes for all things US healthcare related

If you get a filling done at an extremely expensive fancy private doctor in a big city, with anastasia, that's around $300.

Kiwix is an offline reader for online content like Wikipedia, Project Gutenberg, or TED Talks. It makes knowledge available to people with no or limited internet access. The software as well as the content is free to use for anyone.
for those wondering...

#

could make a few of these and then just yeet them out to random people in far away countries with no internet

sinful moon
#

Remember the Wikireader? Was a neat device with the same premise, local copy of all of Wikipedia on a handheld

quartz fog
#

trying to think how i came across it, maybe i was thinking like a virtual machine to mirror a dead website or something like that

sinful moon
#

That too does exist, there’s software you can deploy to proxy retro websites to a retro PC via Wayback Machine. It’s neat, you can target which year you want to see, and navigate to the official URLs to see those copies

#

Been meaning on setting that up, love me some retro computing

quartz fog
#

kiwix does sound familiar but it wasnt that

sand trench
#

could have been wikireader then or similar older projects

quartz fog
sinful moon
#

Neat neat! Yeah I’m huge into retro gaming and retro computing

quartz fog
#

these days im more into just playing games for achievements, not so much dev.

sand trench
#

achievements hunting can be a lot of fun

quartz fog
#

I used to do some reverse engineering for RetroAchievements, but i found the community to be a bit to demanding and picky

sinful moon
#

Yeah I can’t say I do any retro dev, beyond GB Studio which barely counts, or dev for fantasy consoles like PICO-8 which is a good bit of fun. I don’t do much with RetroArchievements tbh, I’m just glad beating these retro games generally

quartz fog
sinful moon
#

Nice, Ridge Racer Type 4 is by far my fave of the series but Rage Racer is good fun as well

quartz fog
sinful moon
#

Nice yeah I don’t even have a retroachievements account but do have plenty of friends who do

#

Neat project but not something I’m looking for while retro gaming, big respect to the effort tho

quartz fog
#

I find it's a good excuse to revisit some of those old games. Sure played them tons of times before, but never connected to a webapi tracking achievements

when we trying to extract metadata from a picture , it does not give the extact the location of the person .. how do we work on it ..

#

all the platforms stripped off the information

gritty fern
#

You cant just switch topics on a dime, you need some sort of segway or it gets really confusing

whole yew
#

If the EXIF data is removed from the metadata, there is no way to recover that specific data.

gritty fern
#

Having someones location from an image is generally a problem

whole yew
#

Many times, that EXIF data is removed so that the person uploading their pictures to a platform cannot be physically located by that metadata. There have been issues with stalkers tracking people that way, so the capability is often removed.

rapid merlin
#

like why OS collect information from where the photo got clicked ..
