I think you can use the Pearson Home testing option, but that depends on you making sure you're going to have a quiet day to do your test, with no change of disturbance. They've been known to fail people when the proctor hears someone else in the house. A testing centre is probably the better option 🙂

It's generally not a good idea to use a pentesting distro as your main os, as it is frequently in an insecure state to perform a lot of pentesting tasks. I run Mint as my main os (cos my laptop is really fussy) and have Kali as a VM for pentesting. You can also put your pentesting vm in a separate/isolated NAT environment to prevent your activities putting your home network at further risk; as you're generally connecting your pentesting os to what you should consider to be hostile network environments. (Although the risk to your machine/network is low when connecting to THM, you should still use best practices when connecting to any environment you're doing pentesting tasks).

Well I haven't had any major issues with Mint, and it's gotten better over the years, but it really depends on your hardware and compatibility. I find Mint good at dealing with most compatibility issues I've had otherwise, and it's very quick and easy for me. You could try Zorin, MX, Manjaro, Fedora... Play around and see what works. You may need to do some exploring and fixing things yourself

It might be the version of Windows you're using no longer supports MBR. I haven't done a Windows install in a very long time. You might need to reformat the disk before you install Windows. Make sure anything you wanted on it is backed up fully before you proceed, of course
