A way I learn also is to (already having a decent understanding of things) jump into a CTF game, keep trying different things until either I succeed or until event is over, then view walkthroughs after to see whete I went wrong or if others solved it a quicker way than me

I remember the first time I ask a question in a Linux forum, it was 1993 it was about dialup modem in Linux, those guys were hard core old school, one straight told me RTFM, other one told me, read this, this and this, and if you have specific question came back and ask them but, just with a proof of doing, like I did this and this and it didn't work, I got this error, etc.

Honestly, note taking is such an underrated skill. I would always recommend building up your own written knowledge base -- this sector is way too big to remember everything you ever learn, and solving the same problem (or learning the same topic) twice is just a waste of time.
