I’m looking at old CTF forensics challenges to try to learn traffic analysis. I feel like I’m super close on this one but I’m stuck. I have a pcapng with only like 50 packets. All of the packets are TCP, no http or anything. I see that the attacker is sending a binary file, and the victim responds with flag.txt, but I don’t know how I’d get the flag. I tried dumping all the tcp hex data from the attacker into a hexfile and using xxd to convert to a binary but it doesn’t seem to work. Idk where else to look. Any tips?

So far, I revealed two issues, one with ssh, and one with md5 hashes. They said the username for ssh "couldn't be verified for sure if it's a user" because it would always ask for a pass, even if the name doesn't exist. And they say "md5 hashes can't be reversed"

Well, after revealing the potential flaws, I should them step by step a THM room where I did the exact same thing, finding a username, cracking it with Hydra, and then logging in from ssh. But that's as far as I can go, legally, as they haven't yet authorized me to test out my findings.

I worded it poorly. So, I found a username in their source code while I was looking for errors in the coding because the site wasn't accurately keeping "the math up". So, I told them about the name I found, and "assumed" it could be used for ssh. They said they weren't worried about ssh because there was "no way of knowing for sure it was a name for sssh". So, I showed them a THM room I did, in a similar manner of finding a username in a source code, then bruteforced THE THM ROOM USERNAME, not the actual name I found from their site. I showed them how I could attack it, without actually attacking it

Ok. So responsible disclosure is a very tricky thing to do properly. Notify them and if they say it's not a big deal, not much you can do about it, or even should do about it. If you followed the proper reporting channels, it's better for you if you move on from that interaction

so you can do the SOC level 1

go to storage, click SATA, add a disk with the hdd icon

So I'm moving the image to a spot closer to Desktop for easier access, once I do that I reset it and get the files from there?

And then use the VHD so I can always have the files there

So the VM folder has been copied, do I reset it now or wait for the VHD to be ready?

if you can link to it, Jabba can check and see if it qualifies as an active CTF
