Yep, the root dns servers (your internet) doesnt actually have records of x.htb on its records. There are no public DNS records for such as it's hosted through a VPN. Therefore you have to add this to your own hosts file to resolve it

It's an attitude thing. That question tells them a lot about you. From a social perspective it likely helps them to (legally) filter out people who wouldn't fit into their team. From a personal perspective it tells them whether you care about the big picture, whether you're a selfish asshole, whether you care about their corporate values (in which I assume from the question that appears), whether you've researched those values, etc, etc, etc.

It's not about whether you can do the job, it's about who you are as a person, which (believe it or not) is crucial in any social setting. A work environment still involves social interaction.

That and the destruction we're causing to this planet is undisputably the most serious big-scale issue that we face just now. It's good that more corporations are starting to recognise and prioritise that. Guessing they want to see whether you recognise that too 🤷‍♂️

We can get everything we need without slaughter in today's world. From a physiological perspective we no longer need to kill for food, not anymore.

Not actually strictly true.
A cow needs to have had calves in order to produce milk. So the process starts by forcefully impregnating a dairy cow, constantly, repeatedly, for her entire life. When the calves are born they are removed from their mothers. The males tend to be killed pretty much immediately, the females are reared separately until they're old enough to be imprecated themselves. It's all incredibly stressful emotionally for them -- cows are intelligent creatures.
When the mother is too old to have calves, she gets killed for the beef industry. That generally happens at less than half her natural lifespan.

So contrary to popular opinion, you can't buy milk without contributing to, well, that.
