Especially when it doesn't store it's output sources so there's no way for the AI to check if it actually said it or not.

It's just banking on people not understanding how ChatGPT works. They think there's some intelligent formula to it, but It's a black box at the end of the day. It parses data in an unknown way and then regurgitates it. You can't detect that unfortunately

I’m not sure if lecturers actually stick to this, or how closely it is followed, but on other courses I expect that it is

On my last course if it was > 15 % the lecturer wouldn't even look entertain it

I got 99% once, and I had to prove that was all my own work, which it was.
