@stuck otter When I was much younger, I found myself caught in the cycle of focusing solely on fundamentals while also attempting to code. I didn't prioritize reading before applying knowledge; instead, I would search for the most challenging coding tasks. This led me to assembly language. I began researching how to code in assembly, then I realized I have to learn the von Neumann architecture, registers, pointers, and various data types (stack, heap, text, data, etc.). I familiarized myself with commands like mov, rsp, rax, rdx, rcx, r8, r9, r10, equ, and more.

Starting with CTFs right away on platforms like HTB, THM and so on can lead to tremendous learning opportunities.

Of all the weapons in the vast soviet arsenal, nothing was more profitable than Avtomat Kalashnikova model of 1947. More commonly known as the AK-47, or Kalashnikov. It's the world's most popular assault rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9 pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesn't break, jam, or overheat. It'll shoot whether it's covered in mud or filled with sand. It's so easy, even a child can use it; and they do. The Soviets put the gun on a coin. Mozambique put it on their flag. Since the end of the Cold War, the Kalashnikov has become the Russian people's greatest export. After that comes vodka and caviar. One thing is for sure, no one was lining up to buy their cars.

When targeting web applications, those that are even moderately secure have brute force protection mechanisms. You literally flag yourself and trigger security measures even before any hacking activity is initiated.

Although, if I try accessing a specific service and bruteforce โ€œadmin adminโ€ for all of (lets say) NA IP, I would most definetly get one successful result.

Bruteforcing is mainly done offline with hashes on hand.

Lets say I target all North America IPs.

Only one try per IP with specific port I am targeting

In addition to that, they will all have their own personal agenda to push. Sometimes this is influenced by other rich, upper class folk. Also, Those folk tend to be polititians, so in the example above they don't have any idea about 'replayable fobs', and (if the law is put on the table), will only learn enough to be able to back their own opinion up.

Quick question:
We say that Docker containers run without a whole operating system, unlike classic VMs.
However, in the Dockerfile, why do we specify the "base image" as an OS (ubuntu, alpine, etc.)?

cobalt dove
#

also there was no reason on the decline

all the kernel level stuff is shared with the host. There's isolation using namespaces and cgroups and all that

#

the base image adds extra programs to make life easier

upper bison
#

Oh okay, it's like to "format" the Docker container?

shell nova
#

Alpine uses busybox, for example, ubuntu adds a bunch of debian and ubuntu utils

#

wouldn't say format, but it guarantees a baseline

#

you know what tooling you'll get with a debian base image vs an alpine base image

It's like used to define a base filesystem?
