I hope so to ๐
Just keep learning and you will get there.
if you ask others instead of studying you never will became one ๐
Ask your teacher maybe
You can learn
Yeah I am trying to ask my teacher, he said im on the right tracks for this challenge that was it
yes im trying to learn ty
Explore the links on the left, and you'll find valuable information about access control and related topics. PortSwigger is an excellent resource for learning more about these subjects.
Check also basic javascript.
yeah Ive been using port swigger recently
Then you are on the right path.
Nice, good luck.
@shell nova I was big dumb earlier.
you are big dumb now also ๐
What else is new?

you're a bid dumb, he's a big dumb, all the room is a big dumb ๐
So what did you break this time?
I spent like 30 min on a call with Emma trying to troubleshoot a networking issue. Got my server setup in its perm spot, ran 50ft cat 6a down to the server, but couldn't get a proper IP for the NIC. Tried different PCIE Slot on the desktop, different port, nothing....
I forgot to save the IP config on the NIC Port for it to work... I just set the IP and forgot to test/save so nothing took effect.
Gj
ouch
luck for us that you do not work in google or so... internet will be down lot's of time =/
Yah, ping -t the IP I set on the port for the desktop, and host unreachable... Emma chimes in "you hit save, right"
My face:
In my defense, I'm not ultimately familiar with TrueNAS
Or actual servers for that matter
well.. if you do in vim... there is option for autosave interval and so
looks like a meme of anakin and padma, you hit save, right? ๐
All in TrueNAS under networking section
I just set up a dhcpserver for mrrobot and kali linux and i should get ip 10.38.1.110 but its at 127.0.0.1 on lo which its not supossed too
You got the machine from vulnhub?
Yes
Any reason why?
As i did first time i got it and it worked but not now
Greetings.
oof its really cold
Sure thing, unless you want to learn how to properly setup a ctf box.
It's been a long time I did that.
Are you on vbox or vmware?
i have the mr robot and kali linux and i satup a dhcpserver like last time and last time i got right ip and that but i deleted the dhcpserver and kali linux and mr robot and now i got new and i did exact the same but i dont get right ip im on vbox
Same internal network?
Yes
Well MW3 just caused my pc to crash with BSOD
:0
gotta love it
That's odd, did you check this : https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch06.html
Last time I got a BSOD was back in 2015 if I am not wrong.
No but what will it do its not the things i need for it to work:(
What error did it throw at you
RIP ๐
TBF been running it since 9 this morning and almost 9 now so almost 12 hours of running
You will have to set it up again I am sure there is something wrong with the internal network hence dhcp not working.
Check the manual, there is everything there.
Its my 3rd time trying to delete and make anew
Then there is a deeper issue.
Ima fix it get da bat X509
Check the interface, make sure there is no conflict, make sure assuming it's vbox, internal network is properly setup and things like that.
nothing wrong
I've decided to stop working on those VulnHub VMs. Dealing with too many issues and spending too much time on them wasn't worth it for me.
yeah ima try more
Good luck.
Ty
Any college students here feel like they have no idea what's going on in their cyber classes?
THM seems to do a way better job at making me understand concepts and hands-on labs.
Assuming you are actually learning, that's normal.
That's actually expected up to a certain level.
It's a different approach on TryHackMe hence why.
Usually, I prefer to rely heavily on self-learning, going as far as possible with it (thm and so on for example).
Well, I'm currently taking Intro to Cybersecurity which requires me to do Labs for CySA+. It feels like this class doesn't really prepare me for them. For example, the earlier classes I took had me using Linux but never taught me how to use the OS besides "assisted labs" that just tell you what to do. It didn't stick in my head very well so I had issues with the tests.
Did a few rooms on THM and I gained the fundamentals to navigating Linux.
I assume it's because they expect you to "try harder" and figure things out on your own by using Google and other resources.
You could go very far with linux fundamentals just using "man pages".
Certainly, assuming they indeed expect you to do so.
If no, then that's poorly designed.
Perhaps, though, it's never been specifically stated. My professor tends to be very hands-off with this class so hard to tell what is expected from students.
To avoid surprises, it's best to rely heavily on self-learning. To excel in this field, you'll need to invest a significant amount of time independently tackling challenges and figuring things out. The best resource is http://www.google.com.
i cri
Oh, for sure. I recently started being more proactive with my learning and it's helped a lot. My current class is primarily dealing with monitoring, detecting, and responding to security incidents in Windows. Do you know any specific resources that will help me with that? Maybe a THM room?
Sure thing, one moment.

A windows machine has been hacked, its your job to go investigate this windows machine and find clues to what the hacker might have done.
In part 1 of the Windows Fundamentals module, we'll start our journey learning about the Windows desktop, the NTFS file system, UAC, the Control Panel, and more..
In part 2 of the Windows Fundamentals module, discover more about System Configuration, UAC Settings, Resource Monitoring, the Windows Registry and more..
In part 3 of the Windows Fundamentals module, learn about the built-in Microsoft tools that help keep the device secure, such as Windows Updates, Windows Security, BitLocker, and more...
@rapid merlin You can use <https://link.com> to remove the embed, saves the chat from being flodded
Sure thing.
I didn't know that, thanks.
Thank you, I really appreciate it. On another note, do you take notes while you go through rooms on THM? I've been using Obsidian to but I haven't found a format that really works for me.
Gave +1 Rep to @signal nimbus (current: #601 - 6)
https://www.ultimatewindowssecurity.com/securitylog/encyclopedia/default.aspx
Check this one carefully as well, as it relates to Windows security log events. Then once you did that and if you are still interested check more about sysinternals.

Time to go to work
Sure, I usually keep notes on how the machines operate and some of their intricacies. Obsidian uses Markdown. Occasionally, I also use either OneNote or CherryNote, depending on the situation. OneNote is quite good.
Just use something that can keep your notes organized and in a decent format. At the end of the day, notes are notes, so don't worry too much about fancy features that might just waste your time.
Ideally, you'll develop a framework over time that helps streamline the entire process of note-taking and, consequently, learning as well.
Hey anyone here interested in doing the HackTheBox ctf next month, the cyber apocalypse 2024 ?
and nc is ignoring any incoming requests
thank you
Yeah, I tend to spend a lot of time trying to perfect my notes. I guess I keep thinking there's some amazing format out there to make studying 10x better.
The key is to expose yourself to more things and consistently take notes on what you're doing. Whether you end up taking too many notes or too few (that was my issue), the important thing is to document as much as possible. Over time, you'll naturally develop your own style and framework for note-taking.
No clue, if I have time maybe I will check it out.
lol
I said verified
Funnily the toothbrush thing was proved to be false
huh?
Hmm you can check that event and if you want to join my newly made team you can join that too by searching the team name in ctf.hackthebox.com/teams which is "beasthood".
:๐
I will see unless I do it with my school or some people I know.
I am very busy though so I doubt I will ever do it.
But I will still check yours.
Hmm okay ๐
You do hackthebox a lot?
Haven't done it, still a beginner but played one ctf before from snyk org in November 2023
Right now doing tryhackme (level8) will do HackTheBox too someday
I completed all the medium active machines, and honestly, they weren't that difficult.
Same thing with easy ones actually (only one is a bit tricky).
You can start with HTB right away, it's not that hard just google a lot.
The challenges are very cool as well.
The hard machines takes ages to complete since so many steps are involved.
I may do them when I really have time.
just google a lot
many of the older rooms have whole walkthroughs available as well, much like thm
the main difference is just that htb itself doesn't have walkthroughs
not hand holdy in house
Yes, but it's beneficial to cultivate a "try harder" mentality right from the beginning, especially since HTB is very much CTF-based and puzzle-like. But yes retired machines have walkthroughs available.
oh no i absolutely agree -- just that the documentation is there if you need it
should absolutely try without
Yes 100%.
@molten sky You do HackTheBox?
Hey, guys.
Maybe someone can tell me what the problem is
Very often machines run 1-2 minutes and switch off for 5 minutes. Some more, some less.
Tell me what to do to solve it
Thx a lot
Yah, Jabba knows all about this stuff
@glass nest What should I get next year for the big boi bike?
Just don't get banned and you won't need to bypass one
Whats your riding style, Varg?
Yo, I need food idea for dinner. Whatcha all got?
Honestly, I've never ridden dirt so an adventure bike is off the cards (for now(don't tell Jimmy he will cry)), so far, I like long scenic rides with a bit of twisties here and there.
Seems deserved tbh
OMG Varg
How are you
Ok. Assuming your beard isn't Harley level (plus IIRC they have a bad rep in Oz)
You're aware this is unethical and possibly illegal right?
Harley is garbage.
To put it into perspective, the garages around here purposefully pick Harley as their only toolsets and parts etc just to make money off of the people that buy them.
I seem to be gravitating to nakeds.
Agreed. Well, I'll always recommend a Triumph - Like a Bonniville. But a CB500 has it's charms. Lots of them around, so easy to get parts if needed.
I'll sound like an old man but I had the chance to ride a 2023 BMW RT1200RT late last year and I've fallen in love. Don't get me wrong I love sports bikes but at thing is just different, and for all the right reasons!
:hammer: nexooie#0 has been banned.
You do like Triumph, eh?
Nakeds are what I like. Last 2 were 'hooligan' bikes ๐
I liked the idea of getting a street triple but I am really not a fan of th dash.
Yeah, I get that. some aren't a fan of the new-style headlights either
Did they change the goggles?
Never liked those.
Oh and of course, the moment I look it up, there's word they changed the dash to finally be digital.
An MT might sound good, but personally, I found the ride kinda boring on an MT-10
KTMs are a chav fave, but honestly they are a lot of power thats not really needed on a road, and cost a fortune.
Did you try an h2r? It's very impressive.
I can't say I have.
So, any idea what I should do for dinner?
Hmm yeah i will look into that.
Btw I'm multitasking so much which is making the progress slow, i am learning web development too at the same time buz i love creativity and to learn basics of programming and web thru this path.
Well many people advice not to multitask and stick to one, but it will take much more time so I'm going with the flow๐
Ducati monsters are nice, But Ducatis have that 'super pricey service charge'. I've not seen their scrambler for a while, but they turned my head
Or y'know.... a Grom. Everyone loves a grom ๐
It can be stored in most overhead compartments ๐
My daily rider at the moment is a 2022 CBR1000R which I adore, just finding given the winter I can't ride it as much as I'd like. Obviously if I was to get an RT1200RT though, that would change. The GF won't let me though ๐
You definitely should, I'm considering getting it after I finish my studies and have more free time to deal with it. I still need to obtain my motorcycle license.
yeah, I was a fair-weather rider. If it was wet, I just wasn't able to ride the way I wanted to, y'know?
It's very good you are multi-tasking.
Keep doing that, just make sure you are actively improving.
I always multi-task.
Cmoooon varg! In suspense now...
If I do get another bike, I'll probably go back to the Speed Triple R again, or a Bonniville scrambler
No help with my food? I sadge
Had to look through 40000000 photos
@rapid merlin u are very good person and advanced
Oh nice, so its not harmful to multi task haha
we shall work together
Haha, awesome
mentor me ok
He rides up along side us, I give the hang ten, he nods and then floors it past everyone lmao
What a machine.
Yeah, I mean that thing has to weigh like 8lbs
I don't own a motorcycle at the moment, and I haven't gotten my license yet. I would love to get the H2R, but since it's not street legal, I'll go for the H2 instead and maybe modify it later on, probably in a year or two. Dealing with winter can be a hassle when it comes to riding bikes as well so there is that.
u have permission to dm if more secret inside info needed
Just throw it around corners ezpz
Absolutely, as long as you have the intelligence and mental capacity for it.
I am a script kiddie at best. Still need to learn way way more.
no u humble
I really need to learn way more.
H2s are waaaaay too much effort. They look nice and are all shiny, but it's a lot of work just to keep that shine. Better with a normal Ninja if you're down that route
If money wasn't an issue, I'd get a Diavel and just like, never touch it.
good
My girlfriend has started riding within the last year and ended up going with a CBR500R which is an A2 licence (here in the UK) - It's a great sports bike if learning, not too much power that you can kill yourself with it but has power when needed. It's super forgiving too.
Have you tried a Diaval? it's like driving a truck
Nope.
Fantax - ah yes, the 'Repsol' gang ๐
I've seen one irl and it was parked at a church during a funeral in a crime heavy area.
That's it lmao
In the summer, having a bike is enjoyable, but where I live, it's not practical for at least half the year because of winter. I don't mind maintaining it though.
They do look awesome, though Varg.
It's purely aesthetic.
Nice, I will get my bike license in like maybe 7 months if everything is right.
That's all I like about it.
Most fun you can have with your pants on.
If you see a BMW place though check out the NineT. Brushed chrome with a cafe-racer kinda vibe
I have everything prepared for the H2. It's pretty decent, especially if you're skilled with mechanics.
Haha
They look cool. I've seen a few around here, I think. I can see the cafe racer influence in the seat.
It's either that or go full on JDM (professional not ricer style).
I hate these trash Supra's setup.
Well, I know my way around an engine, cars and bikes alike, and I'll sort bits out if I can, but as I said before, I quite like having a social life
They perform well with the proper setup, but things can get messy quickly if not managed carefully (don't die).
There's nothing quite like tuning an engine and crafting a masterpiece.
Hey look, I nearly had my rear slip out from under me yesterday during light rain. I don't go near anything that can kill me with that much ease.
Just borderline :D
shrug. Maybe x509. but theres also nothing like getting a tiny rugby-tackle hug from your neice whenever you see her.
Correct, there is so much to learn, whenever we learn something we realize we know nothing lol
Things can go south fast. One misstep and it's game over.
Not for nothing; I want to go riding rn.
That's the plan ;)
Christ it is oging to be hard to sell the Rebel.
It's the right amount of jank and I love it.
I suppose I'm not too keen on human contact either. I enjoy discussing ideas and having deep conversations, but that's where I draw the line.
Funnily enough, that where my goddaughter/neice is now ๐ฆ
I got a Chinese new year message from them though! (The mom is cantonese)
That's the true essence of learning. The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know. It's quite extreme.
Lucky. Would give anything for that 3c morning wake up, early sunset, proximity to the US etc.
And those mountain views while riding.
Rebels are great. own one for long enough and you could ride through Mad Max and no-one would look twice ๐
I need to do that at least 20 times.
I'll never forget the cool basic mods I saw on one.
Aye. they are over there because the Dad has a 2yr work secondment. Both the Mom and Dad are my besties. Met 'em both in uni, which is where they met each other - Now they have 2 kids
That looks MEAN!
Phat tyres aswell
Big fan of that job.
i'm a fan of Matte black ๐
The feeling of seeing that M156 engine and having it properly tuned and heavily modified. Knowing that what you crafted is already pure engineering on top of AMG's engineering research is truly a great feeling. The best part is that you can do that with pretty much any decent engine.
Rebels look great as bobbers.
It's not Ghost Rider! (Need a chopper for that)
Varg!
JamesyJames!
Been keeping busy?
I guess if thats what you like. Personally, Woodwork is my Jam. Half a day in the workshop nourishes my mind, body and soul.
When you're this dumb and trying to do computer things, you're always busy ๐
Except today, when the pen I was turning chipped right as I was finishing it.
There you go, I get the feeling. For me, it's information security and mechanics. I'd really love to lay my hands on a genuine, decent 2JZ-GTE, but they're quite hard to come by, especially in good shape. They nuked it's reputation with subpar/garbage Supra modifications.
It's all about this style for me if we're going down the chopper route..
Fantax. It's a Harley. C'mon. You're better'n this.
That style, not necessarily a Harley.
Phew.
I don't know much about bikes of that sort, but I think the engine is probably really important too constitutes a huge aspect.
Fantax likes the bobbers.
Cruiser style. Like a Triumph Rocket3
Dude
Rockets irl are scary cool looking lmao
There was that green one you were eyeing of a few years ago, at the dealership.
It looks like raw power.
If cruisers didn't generally handle like garbage...
For me what screams death are bikes like H2 and H2R. Just the engine itself which is a 4-valve, dual overhead cam inline-4 with a two-speed centrifugal supercharger is yikes.
NO wait.
It was the Bonneville.
The rocket I saw at the Triumph display shop when I went looking at Tridents.
You realise the H2R is ยฃ49000 right?!? ๐
Money is not an issue it's the fact it's not street-legal.
This is what I'd aim for if I was in the market
That's the one.
I'm planning to get the H2 and heavily customize it instead.
Love those side pipes
Almost shotgun like.
Not a bad idea for madmax bikes. Make the pipes out of old shotguns.
Semi-spoked wheels.... Mmmm
I think it's around $58,100 USD.
I did see a proper madmax bike at a meet once. The fuel tank was an actual oil barrel
Cause that makes it better ๐
hi!
Love the fact that we've hijacked a computer security discord for bikes ๐
If I could actually drive it, I would buy it without hesitation. But it's not legal.
How tf is that road legal?
No idea. Might even have not been, They guy didn't look like he cared. just wanted to head to the Thunderdome
The super stupid bikes that aren't road legal are technically allowed here, so long as they aren't modified by anyone and aren't ridden over the limits.
Unwritten rule?
yeah, theres a bit of wiggle room here aswell. Small licence plates, Tinted/Iridium visors. Once you're not riding like a lunatic, you're generally safe, although personally I'd not risk it or recommend anyone else to.
The H2R is designed for closed-course use only. I mean there are kits available to transform it (street-legal), but doing so would literally compromise the true essence of the bike, rendering it essentially useless.
It would be horrible and borderline cringe.
It's an insult.
I'd rather get an H2 and modify it genuinely and extensively.
yes. borderline cringe.
Speaking of, did I tell you I'm half considering getting a bike? Purely because rush hour traffic on the rare occasions I need to go into the office drives me up the freakin' wall and I fancy being able to filter
Yeah we talked about it last year.
I was excited but realised you'd not have one for a long time anyway lmao
Aha, oops ๐
It's not as cringe-worthy with the H2 because of its reputation, but converting an H2R into a street-legal version using transformation kits, essentially toning it down makes it 99% cringe.
Do they let you filter on your learners over there?
I mean, got a house with a garage now. Would need to go and get the license for it but I'm technically in a position to do it now ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Yah, once you get confident enough to filter you're golden
Can't filter or split here until full license.
I don't trust people here enough to do it.
Maybe one or two cars.
It's not really a hard and fast rule, but insurance companies don't like it
But not an entire length of them on a freeway or soemthing.
Not to keep harping on about BMW but if you are looking for serious speed and an amazing riding experience then @rapid merlin you should honestly look at a S1000RR - those things are insane, they look amazing, have the tech and one of the best riding experiences I've ever had. It's the only bike I've ridden that genuinely scared me but for all the right reasons!
Not a clue, but I've got a full class B driving license anyway. Wouldn't take long to expand that to cover bikes
True.
Here, you do your L's and if you're over 25 with full car license, you're golden.
You know anyone with a black box on their bike?
Fuck it. I am going for a ride now. Can't stand not being on the thing.
Enjoy! I'm gonna go get the dog out methinks
Yes, I've heard positive things about it too. It's something I'm considering as well. Death on wheels.
Yeah... 18yr olds riding restricted bikes. So many of them have a 'secret unrestrict switch'. but insurance companies look for that 1st if ever there a claim
whoa the oldschool folks are here
Oh yeah, I knew about restrictions -- didn't realise those included a black box though
yo
Thats more to reduce premiums
Was just thinking that actually. This is really a blast from the past
naptime for me, gotta shoot some arrows tomorrow
Almost like I never left. All we need now is for someone to ban Elf.
Just need Fawaz to insult spooks, spooks to react with ๐๏ธ๐ ๐๏ธ and for szy to spam my name

Elf probably shredded his drive one time too many
I did warn him!
He's a clever cookie.
I literally warned him about that
Elf... a JOB? Whats this madness?
I know.
too clever for his own good
Grew his hair out too.
i can contact them giv me a sec
Who, Fawaz, Spooky, and Szy?
Had him on Snapchat for a while but he's always making new accounts on everything and abandoning the old.
why do my headphones sound better upside down

I think Fawaz is still on my FL, but always on busy
did you plug them in upside down?

I remember a car, if I recall right a 1982 Mustang GT, literally a coffin. Even at idle, the car was shaking like crazy, and when you accelerated the car literally was bending. The smell of gasoline was incredibly strong too.
Oh, they're all still around. Most of the old crowd have retreated to private communities now
All still active though
too bad
:
am still a noob
Aye. Well, it's the times, innit. People graduate, get certs, get jobs
You said it
Can't be arsed dealing with help vampires
Same old same old
happened to Hak5. When we abandoned IRC, a few of the regulars make a 'Thinstack' Discords. It's cool. Sometimes Mubix pops in. Spoke to Wes not long agoa aswell
OSCEยณ.
I actually came back cos I genuinly missed you crazy lot, and mid-life crisis is happening so getting disillusioned at work and am getting a few certs and skills in the bank.
Hak5 - jesus that's a blast from the past!
Plus I do miss helping people.
Is not the be-all-end-all, you know that right?
Certs in general aren't
Big difference between certs and IRL
And I say that as someone who's one cert off OSCEยณ
fanta why lv1
I'll only pursue certifications up to OSCE3 because that's where I will draw the line. While HR prefers candidates with certifications, ideally, I wouldn't pursue them, but it's necessary because they value that.
I genuinely don't care about certs but I have to which sucks.
Not really tbh. OSCP is the HR gate, generally speaking
=/
If I only need to obtain that certification and then rely on experience afterward, then yes, I am stopping there.
OSCP for most of the west. CEH for India. CREST CRT / CPSA and/or OSCP for the UK. Others probably have their own local ones too
I still remember the days of torrenting their episodes every Wednesday! Back when Wes was still very much in the fold.
Backtrack & Helix were the go to tools for penetration testing and digital forensics.
IIRC the CREST stuff last like 3 years and you gotta re-take, right?

Christ, first ever HAK5 video I watched had backtrack in it.
Thanks for sharing that. It's also great to know that there's no need to retake the OSCP exam for a refresh. If that's all I need, then I'll stop there. I usually take certification courses but never go through with the exams.

But yes, that's why I went for OSCP while at uni. No need to retake before entering the workforce, and it's the industry standard right now
Expansive or expensive?
Who'd punch Darren? He's so lovely.
Don't judge my typos smh
Ali! that was the girl from the earlier ones, before Darren was seeing Snubs
Why not both?
Definitely, I only care about the knowledge. I tend not to invest too much in certification courses. Sometimes I just review the syllabus and learn on my own, unless it's an extremely specialized topic that isn't available elsewhere, which is quite very rare. OSCP is the only cert I will ever take assuming everything goes right.
Don't worry Fantax. i also remember OverTheWire and HackthisSite

Let us live, since we must die, interesting quote it's been a while since I heard that.
It sometimes hits hard
Yes, depending how you see it and your state of mind. I remember coming across that quote in a book during my second metaethics class, if my memory serves me right.
@sinful moon u free?
Isnt that just math class? Or another class
Latin is def an interesting language in general.. You will have stuff that would never make sense in these day and age
In my main course curriculum, I focused on metaethics, which is largely influenced by my first logic class. In the logic class, we explored the principles and axioms relevant to mathematics. Then in metaethics one it was about ethical subjectivism, which encompasses theories like the Ideal Observer Theory and Divine Command Theory, as well as Error Theory (mainly).
Should I do Portswigger, watch a movie, play a game
Did anyone ever watch the iPTV show BSoD that was like a piggybacked version of Hak5 - those guys were seriously crazy fuckers. Like Hak5 but on 10 cans of redbull and actively hacking out in the community.
Definitely, I totally agree.
Imma go bed. Peace out y'all, have a nice sunday ride-out @flint sluice
Goodbye.
Oh I see! It is totally different then i thought of it lmao
This sounds way more complex can i comprehend
I took the logic and metaethics class as an elective during high school to earn points, especially since I was primarily homeschooled. It's a bit of a long story.
@astral kiln Was all about Diggnation :p
Honestly, it's not that difficult. All you need is the right mindset and the correct frameworks. Many people dislike philosophy courses because they inherently require thinking, and some struggle with how to approach them. Logic class, on the other hand, is straightforward. It focuses on logical reasoning within a limited scope, making it a relatively simple subject. Metaethics explores life and ethics within a specific context, and it's quite easy to grasp. Personally, I finished reading all the material in just four days, so it wasn't challenging at all. However, delving deeper into the fields of logic and metaethics reveals a complexity that is 10,000 times more challenging. Each domain contains numerous subfields, each of which is complex but fascinating in its own right.
It's all about having the right mindset and frameworks.
Anybody got a idea
Which movies you got in mind
Yeah Ik.. anything is easy to grasp if you have the time and the right mindset
its just finding the time for it
and being able to actually put the effort in it.. and rn ion think i can
Adopting the correct thinking isn't difficult, and it can make a significant difference in how you grasp the material. Same thing with cybersecurity.
You have to tackle it in a specific way, so you don't get discouraged, lose hope and learn a lot.
thinkin Aliens
yeah โค๏ธ . Its just the different wants you approch it
cause times it is easy to burn out
Innate talent certainly plays a role, but I'd estimate it accounts for only about 5% of cases where individuals excel regardless of effort. However, dedication can take you a long way. With commitment and hard work, you can achieve significant progress and overcome many challenges.
Taking a professional/specialist approach to your work can really make a difference in preventing burnout and improving your skills in your field.
I mean you can apply that to everything else (you just have to tweak it a little).
This field in particular, since you need to be up to date and have a wide knowledge.
=/
Absolutely, which is why passion is essential. Without the drive to succeed and continually learning you won't get far. Passion fuels perseverance and growth in any profession (especially cybersecurity).

exactly. But I think most of the people who start in this field are passionate about it
Depends.
While ideal, the reality often diverges.
Most likely, although, the people who are not passionate about it often never get far into it.
I HAS MY CHIMKEN!
That's the key.
like in most jobs, but especially this one.
Yeah exactly! Cause youc an do soo much but its being able to know what exactly you wanna do
Passion is key in cybersecurity. That's why there's a shortage of experienced professionals.
Definitely, 100%.
People want to get in cybersec because "there is a lot of money to be made". And "it is a job of the future"
In this case the ones that are not passionate about it)))
I totally agree.
If I may ask, are you currently employed in this field?
I am currently a student.
I'm just deeply passionate about all of this.
Ohh I see, same here.
Yeah same. I've always been curious about how everything worked.
It's part of the hacker mindset.
It is ๐
Hello guys, I'm struggling with a crackme. Is there a brave soul to help me?
Like I am just getting into this So i am gonna try and do some modules and learn before I blab on lmao
dont wanna be saying the wrong stuff
Do you have computer basics knowledge or 0?
You will always be learning, so approach it with the right mindset, and you'll achieve great things.
Else, I recommend doing some basic stuff first.
one day i becoe strong in hackint and u will be impressed
I say wrong stuff all the time, far from being perfect.
Yeah Like I have basic computer knowledge... I am studying comp sci rn
Being wrong is part of the process.
its just cyber sec part
Exactly.
it is not a crackme from TryHackMe, it is why i ask here to go on DM
Perfect then. It will complement it really well
You do a bit of networking? @idle peak
You will be leaps and bounds ahead when you will graduate.
I like to dabble in and there ofc
๐
yep
yeah exactly cause rn i am learning the basic stuff.. Coding Languages and other computer stuff
but like i wanan like learn more specific stuff
like cyber Sec
What language specifically? Im curious
Indeed, the number of people lacking proper fundamentals in cybersecurity is staggering.
list them fundamentals
You can easily learn.
Computer architecture, OS fundamentals, Low-Level programming, Networking and so on.
thats cool,
how low level look like
its the basics lmao... nothing too fancy.
Networking in the sense of?
C, C++ and so on.
Yo, hear me out. Cracker barrel is fire
in the sense of servers, etc..
nice
if i only have cli debian VM, how can i create a graphical interface for it all by myself for exampl?
as a project
oh okok, I wanted to compare with what my compsci taught us xD.
OSI model, TCP/IP, DNS, Protocols, Routing, Subnetting, VLAN's and so on.
It will take a lot of work.
They taught us C, C++, C#, PHP, JAVA, HTML, JS, etc..
You are good with that.
if a criminal hacker travel from us to south africa or villages in asia he can do lot of damage right? in old hospital system windows xp for exampl and how can we stop him
i see
yeah, although I have only very little knowledge on python, which I think is very important
But I heard it is quite eaasy compared to C,C++,etc
Simple to grasp with your existing foundation.
10x
Scripting is very easy.
Okok xD
Thanks for the motivation.
You have more problems beyond just that Windows XP machine.
As long you really apply yourself, you will go very far.
need a designer or only a programer
It's all about persistence and having that hacker mindset.
What do you mean?
i hope i have mindset already test me
but beyond mindset i dont have the hours
- im slow
Work is boring
i try go very fast
Slow as?
Depends what work.
watching paint dry ๐
If you find it boring, then it might not be the right place don't you think?
- i ask too many questions, that shouldnt get in first line of order
You can reflect and contemplate, haha.
maybe, but dont care about finding the right place
i just will do it one way or another
bcz my eyes droped down on it
sometimes you have to, if we only do what make us happy and what interest us, the world will be a different place ๐
xd
I'll gladly let it be as different as it wish to be lol
worked for me so far, im sure i can take a secret road and make it work
i will suggest to thm to make latenight reunions in this vocal channel to confort fellow learners and answer their questions live, like the office hour or cube talk but a potential rouki associate cm or rogue mod might steal my idea and submit it and i will take no credit for it
nice
good job
The latenight reunions was always about geoguessr tournamnet
still surprised that was 2-3 years ago
xd
Now I feel old
what the winner get
:
nothing, was just all fun with each other and was just me playing with everyone shouting where they think it is
i have the paid version of tryhack but for some reason I cant start the lateral movement AD. are they down or something?
There was a chess torunament as well, with sub winners
lol nice
Whatโs cookin
SAC night shift, lol
is it boring or tiring?
Anybody know a instance where a company was hacked by someone using a /v1 of thier api instead of the /v2
sadge
Booooring
must be the dream to watch movies
idk
I am literally just watching youtube
just call me bella
Ight
and in what way?
Waiting for someone to get that over 4 year streak
and getting paid to do it
my specialty is in infrastructure
yuuuup
Is it fun
Do you get anything for those badges?
I like it, I love setting up networks
No idea
Bragging rights.
don't really need any more ๐
xddd WOW
If someone has managed to do that for consistently 1500 days I would imagine the admins would give you big prize for that
just got it..... || on duolingo instead of tryhackme ||
Oi! It's Varg! How goes?
What language
what language
japanese for first half and danish for second
1 step ahead of you
A Swede learning Danish. Aint they the same?
Wait, lemme get @chilly veldt in here for this
bella get the bapping stick
Nah I would give up after that
but no swedish and danish is not the same
though norwegian and danish is incredibly similar in written form
Yeya so itโs almost close
swedish removed a lot of the h in danish
Hey guys
ello proto
SO, now it's just danis
I'm wondering if you have any resources for better walkthroughs of the youtube content
sometimes those vids from tryhackme seem way too long
well.. dont rush
The only thing I can add to that is to find different videos
Plus sometimes the best videos are the long videos because they explain in depth
true
im on pre security and its boring
ill try not to rush tho ig
but i just cant wait till i get to the more juicy stuff
im gonna be going pentesting route
Great route
Also instead of maybe watching videos. Websites also are great help for explaining things
in order to go to the juicy stuff, and really understand what to do, you have to go through what you call boring ๐
really???
no
Skipped straight to the fun stuffs
to run, you need to learn how to walk first
if u walk slowly its dificult, if u run fast its easy
It really depends how fast of a learner you are
like the bike
read 20 writups a day for beginners instead of tryharding without cheating for 3 or 4
and ull get on tracks faster
time is always against u
let it be brutal let it be violent
dont take ur time
Really depends on the stuff your learning. If it has commands you really have to take your time
no
life depends on one thing
and one thing only
time
doesnt matter what it is that u fix ur goal at
go trought it
Rushing wonโt get you through life. It will just bring more challenges
Yeah
sure
practical learning and not just reading helps
yes yes yes
note taking and doing and listening and watching and reading all help
lov ur pfp shado
Woah
With that much u could've possibly bought the user shadow
Tho I get what your saying tho. You can go fast but to be efficient you have to sit down and learn more in-depth
yes
slow is steady and steady is fast?
?
no?
Nah i dont know alot in that at all lmao..
Having to focus on boring fundamentals tho is going against all of my adhd instincts tho lol
xddddd
but discipline is king
@glass nest here it is
https://youtu.be/ea79seslbXw
LP4, 1064 IR (2w), 2k, 100% power, 30% depth, 1 pass
discipline is king of hell and deception
Well tell me another method then
roll
How do you get motivated?
flow
What if I don't feel like going on tryhackme one day
I recommend trying a room instead of a path if itโs boring you. Of course it might be way harder but if there marked easy you should be able to complete it
every time u eat
u watch video along
even if u dont understand everything u will think back to it "i saw that" i know what it is
i can give u some few recommendations
Yea watching inspiring videos is an actual good way to strengthen motivation
Charming people scare me
Because it's my job - before it was my job, I motivated myself because I was working bad, low paying jobs. I decided I didn't want to be poor my whole life, so I went back to school with the express purpose of leaning compsci and IT to build a career.
W
i also like the from text to speech extension to read me websites
reading takes up too much ram
the eyes
power hungry
nice
Every time i found my motivation falling, I reminded myself what life was like living paycheck to paycheck, and what it was like when being sick for a few days meant I may not be able to both pay rent and eat.
i was translating books from english to learn. before i know to talk english =/
wow
so... don't be lazy to read
I'm reading catcher in the rye rn
And itโs ok if you donโt feel like doing tryhackme for a day.
I motivate myself by thinking that in 50 yrs I don't want to be like boomers now
Where I need to ask my technologically advanced kids how to like a meme
Remember technology changes
Whether you like it or not, you'll be that.
cmon poki... press enter ๐
๐
Yeah, if there's one thing people are good at it's self preservation. I have a very survival-based reason for pursuing a career in cyber as well, and unfortunately that is the best motivator by far haha
Especially for learning and improving outside of my job
Had to make sure my sentences were coherent, it's like 1 30am
fair fair
โน๏ธ
I wanna pursue cyber because I absolutely enjoy it. My main motivator is to work in the defense field and stop hackers.
Bad ones of course
I wanna pentest and maybe even do some of the cyber war stuff
How other countries attack us maybe I wanna attack them for the gov
Sounds fun
Then thereโs your motivation
Y
Actually ye I probably wouldn't wanna work like that
I hate being bossed around especially by the government
Cybersecurity can be fun but there are a lot of stakes involved
I'd probably just end up a whistle-blower if I did that tbh
I'm addicted to wikileaks
Maybe pass on the government work then
Yea
to work for gov you need to have clear dosie and for sure not put dumb stuff on internet and so
What does dosie mean?
file
Oh as Iโm background
yea
when i had my job interview i had to sing NDA just for interview =/ dumb ass rules...
Especially if your dealing with confidential information
You'd be surprised
Just to put things into perspective a little bit, pentesting is like 80% (roughly, big number basically) talking to clients and writing reports. There's a lot of paperwork involved, and you have to be able to respect every step of the process to do a good job
Damn
How do jobs even hire you if you have to just say nda to all there questions
It's also one of the smallest sectors in the industry
It's not just "ooh, eternal blue, I'm in! (hacker soundtrack)"
lol
I'm willing to do all of that
I hope to freelance pentest at some point
Those bounties seem very attractive
talk outside building is NDA. on work and so is ok
I see
Bounties are more of a learning experience than anything else
Don't expect any money to come from bounties really
It's not something you can rely on for sustainable income
I am a Dane who knows Swedish and Japanese
Bella you know Japanese?
I'm an american who knows some Norwegian
If you do like penetrating you should try the red teaming path
nice spotify ogu
Probably yeah
Red teaming is basically your hired to act like the adversary
?
the spotify linked acc is an og user right
I'm Argentine/Israeli and I'm polyglot ๐
What is ogu
like a username that is bought or sold that is rare like @earth or something
Original gangster but protos using it as just original
how do u say i went outside in japanese
Nope? Not at all
I think that's just a display name
no google
yeah
And what proto is saying. Some usernames are considered โrareโ like in tiktok. If you have a name that a lot of people want you could sell that named account. Itโs really stupid
lol yeah some people make bank off of reselling those
I guess it's just a weird flex
I know what they're talking about now, but not the case here
Hi guys, what rooms and CTFs would you recommend to get better in hacking windows systems?
Tryhackme has a nice Active Directory path
I have been learning it on and off
Hey which one is this? Im aiming to refresh on AD prepping for OSCP
meep moop meep moop time for sleep sloop to the beepiest boopiest beepity boopity beep boops
Which difficulty?
In offensive pentesting you will see it
can u make a website
:hammer: chris_cyber_ghost#0 has been banned.
lmao
Making a website != Hacking
btw arent there places on discord to hire developers and webmakers
Likely, yes
do u know any?
No, if I couldnโt do it myself I wouldnโt outsource to strangers on Discord
well where do ya hire web developer from?
When you're installing a VM on your TrueNAS machine, and it just hangs, even though it has 8 cores, 16 threads, and 32 GB of ram...... sadge
Vm moment

It FINNALY unfroze
linkedin and look for hiring websites in ur region
i lov rain

Got a room I was stuck on after reading the entire thing
Wait...people read the entire thing?
^
hey that's me
eh usually just read as lil as possible then try to see if i could do it
turns out i was going a unintented route
i need a code suggestion
tldr; array of bools in powershell -- bools say whether or not a specific task will run or not
what do y'all think the best way to check each would be
cause switches aren't quite right here
ifs work but are very repetive
if it's a loop how will it run the correct task for each flag
vs just running the same task multiple times
run the checks first then add them into a execution pool
but how? maybe i'm not seeing what you're saying
Lemme code up a lil POC in py
if it were bash i'd just have a few of these
[ iftestgoeshere] && exec
doesn't powershell have those features
does it? i've never seen it used
lemme ask bard
couldn't find anything in my 15 seconds of googling yesterday
huh
binary ternary is nonsensical
no false condition needed here
then it's just a top down control flow
still less repetitive than any shorthand if that i've seen so far
{ if ((Get-Date).Hour -gt 17) { Start-Process notepad.exe } }
[System.Management.Automation.Iif]::IIf((Get-Process).Count -gt 10, Restart-Computer, Write-Host "Less than 10 processes.")
Test-Path file.txt ? Start-Process notepad.exe file.txt : Write-Host "File not found."
pick ur poison
runMod5 ? mod5 : Write-Host "nothing i guess"
condition ? command_if_true : command_if_false
hmm the syntax does match up
you need the false condition or else the linter will decide it hates your code
just make a function which does nothing
/dev/null
linter no linting
and the point of the ternary operation is that it sets a value, not a codepath
u coding in notepad?
i was but i ran out of ink
linter equivalent typically runs before building an AST
so knifepad now?
use something like an arg parser if you need to iterate over an array of flags or parameters
it will honestly be the least painful solution
if you're doing in bash or powershell, i'm sure that there is plenty of example code for this
arg parser -- thank you -- that's what i've been looking for
i knew there was a thing but my mind was not functioning correctly
https://docs.python.org/3/library/argparse.html is a lgreat example
saw this on reddit too earlier huh
nah it's O(1) can't get any better than that
r/ProgrammerHumor
lol // pleasereview
it's not O(1), just imagine the caching hit for every single case
still (1) -- it'll run for the same amount of time no matter the arg
doesn't escape after anything
Alright, I see the point of your argument. From a performance standpoint, it's still dogshit though
It's actually a great example of thinking through a problem before coding
but o(1)!! lol
holy hell that's a long doc
There's no else if clause, it's all sequential conditional statements. Predictive execution is going to choke on it
tbh u don't need to read the docs
u just gotta know 1 command of it
user error. should have installed more ram.
parser.add
418gb should be good enough
might be dumb but i can't figure any decent way to do this in ps rn
ask bing
did u try bard
did you try the param section?
i'm doing a bad thing
what about?
yeah but this is mid execution in the same file
that's what you'd want for argument parsing
you can't have multiple param() tho
are you trying to parse an argument list prior to execution?
i have an array of bools that are established during runtime that dictate whether specific functions happen later
i.e. if array[runThing5] is true, then it will call thing5
You don't need to, you can treat the param block as a tuple of tuples
so do it in C++ and use templates
then compile with the argument you want to run
compile a whole new c++ program at runtime based on things the user said while it's running?
eh
it's one way around the shenanigans you're trying to do
you could always make the bool array a dynamic set of anonymous functions
then iterate over and call each of the set items once you've done your checks,
Almost 4 am
Go beeeed
no
honestly that's the best way to fix a sleep schedule
The process seems questionable. Wiring 25 million without any additional checks is concerning. It wouldn't take more than 5 minutes to verify properly.
Protocols are established for swift bank transfers (assuming they went with that, which is likely).
Having some issues with the LFI lab, trying to connect to the link through attackbox vm but it is saying the site is unreachable. Have closed and re-opened the vm aswell as the thm site. any ideas?
I'm not certain if it's connected, but I did encounter some problems with a vm and its connection.
I am working
All good, sorted itself out
