Since installing a new firewall on my PC, I haven't been able to connect to the internet from my Kali VM (ping doesn't work, can't connect to any websites) - anyone know a solution? Hello! I’m in the introduction to cyber security path (I am brand new 😅) mm? I got stuck in task three of the practical example of OS security! I follow directions all the way to the end. but! I can’t get the last answer ?it’s telling me to login as a user name Johnny .then use” su root “to switch to the route account with the password I found from Johnny’s account . Then it’s telling me to use the” cat “command to look at the contents of the “ flag.txt “ file but when I do that it says cat: flag.txt: no such file or dictionary” I must be typing something wrong I’m just stuck 😓😅

So I had a weird issue. I'm working nmap in the beginners path, task 3, nmap switches. I got stuck on answer 15 for like an hour.

I ran nmap-h and man nmap and found in the documentation that it was --script but it wouldn't take my answer. I tried every possible formatting option I could find. I even resulted to googling help answer guides and they all said the same thing.

I use an iPad and wireless keyboard as I practice/study from work as I hate my job and want to switch careers but bills keep me from being a full time student.

I kept at this so long that my wireless keyboard battery died and when I typed it on my actual screen of my iPad, --script worked just fine. I charged my keyboard and tried the next question, same issue. --script=vuln wouldn't accept on the keyboard but it worked when typed out on the actual iPad.

Is this a known issue with how the keyboard processes --. I noticed that when my keyboard typed them it showed as one long line instead of 2 - next to each other on the touch screen keyboard.

For some reason in the keyboard settings on the iPad it had smart punctuation turned on, but wasn't doing the shortcut, only when the wifi keyboard was used.

Turning off smart punctuation on the iPad, fixed the keyboard.

You don't need your streak to learn. Keep doing boxes and rooms. If you haven't gotten a response, you can try sending another email but keep in mind two things.

1. It isn't guaranteed you'll have it reset. If you missed it you missed it. They don't have to put it back.

2. Patience is a virtue. They get a lot of emails about this and that and the other, not to mention all the people asking to have their streak reset.

I am having issues with almost every CTF room I have opened.
I think it must be some server side problem that I am not able to fix myself. In every CTF room I have opened there was a issue with the virtual machine that blocked me from moving or answering a certain question. For example recently I have tried to solve the RootMe CTF, but when I am trying to upload a reverse shell script inside the /panel page after pressing the upload button I get an error message "The connection was reset" from the browser, but I am still able to reach all pages of the site. I know it should work with that particular file (pentestmonkey php reverse shell), because my friend can upload it and complete the same machine without any problem. Also in the Simple CTF room the I cannot reach the webserver running on the virtual machine. It doesn't matter how many times I restart the virtual machines some services won't work properly. I am using tryhackme with openvpn running on a Kali virtual machine. I think this must be some issue with my profile configuration or something because almost every room I am joining I run into some kind of issue. Can anyone help me solve this issue?

I don't know the specific reason in your case, but most likely your packets getting too big, thus getting time outs etc.
The MTU setting fixes that.
So be aware, either you have to run that command every time you restart the vpn connection.
Or add the mtu setting to the openvpn config (should be a quick google search) file you downloaded from THM, so that it's getting applied automatically.
Also always make sure you only have a tun0 interface and not any extra like tun1, tun2 etc.

I have Kali Linux on VMware connected by NAT connection.

I updated it.

I downloaded the .ovpn file for Linux.

I entered the sudo openvpn /path-to-file/file-name.ovpn command and got the Initialization Sequence Completed prompt.

There's a checkmark for both Server Status and Connected detail on https://tryhackme.com/access.

When I do ifconfig, it shows on my tun0 interface that I'm connected to the VPN and the IP is exactly as the one on the access page.

When I enter the machine's IP on my browser I get a Can't establish a connection error.

When I try to ping the IP, I get a Destination Host Unreachable result.

I can still access any websites while being connected to the VPN.

I'm in the OpenVPN room right now to test it out. Task 6 said to enter the IP on my browser.

Hello, having tampered a bit with the AttackBox but mainly using an arch linux vm I came across the problem of having to install all the tools manually one by one. Now I have been thinking about just using the AttackBox but there I am missing the persistent storage as I like to save some of my project files to each challenge i do. Now I was thinking about changing my vm os to kali to have some more flexibility as i am also using arch almost mainly for tryhackme.

Now my question is, is there any way of using the attackbox image as a local persistent vm or should i just default to using kali instead? If there is any "toolkit" I can just install on arch that would also be a huge help.

Hi, I'm currently on the box 'Post-Exploitation Basics' task #3. I'm using the AttackBox , I can't get BloodHound working when I try to upload the zip file. It is just stuck on "Upload Progress" and nothing is happening. I tried to upload via the button but also with drag and drop, Same thing. Is there any known issue regarding this ? Also these things happen all the time, a lot of images are being hosted elsewhere nobody is checking them on a daily basis to see if they are up or not, imagine doing that for all the rooms and tasks tryhackme has.

Finding one and reporting it is kind of the only thing we can do...

hmm i'm not very familiar with the method you are using to connect to the vpn through that script you are referring to.

i personally have an alias in the ~/.zshrc and just type thm and connect to it, but it leaves the terminal window open and i can terminate the connection with ctrl c whenever i want, maybe you should try this method also, find it more convenient...

I am trying to run kali on virtualbox but it is running extremely slowly I have 4 cores, 8 logical processors, and am giving the vm 2 processors. I also have 16 gb ram and am giving the vm around 3 gb. Does anybody know why it would be running so slow? But for a reset if no one else is voting, there is no other solution that I know of.
Can't speak for the network itself, since I haven't done it.
But you sure the machines in that network even respond to pings?
So maybe don't rely to much on pinging the machine.
Also make sure you are using the correct openvpn file, so the one for the wreath network when connecting from your own machine.
Other than that, I can't help you more

Under "Junior Pentester Path"-> "Authentication Bypass"->"Username Enumeration" there are questions stating "what is the username starting with si. After running the ffuf, i only got one username. Is the expectation to open the names.txt file and try gving all the usernames which starts with "si". This is a huge list and its like trial and error. Please let know if this is the method to be followed

Pretty certain it comes down to the usual issues, thm vpn not running directly inside the VM, a personal vpn running on the host machine simultaneously, multiple tun interfaces or as a last resort the mtu fix.

are you seeing high latency if you ping 10.10.10.10?

are you able to get a response from curl http://10.10.10.10/whoami

It should show you back your tun0 IP

so that sounds ok; how many cores and memory did you give your vm?

that's a lot of ram - i would try upping the cores first

i usually do 4 cores and 4GB of ram for my kali
