Using the -A flag is barely necessary. Especially for an initial scan on all ports. So rather go with a scan like -sS for the initial scan and in case you really feel the need for -A, then only use it on the open ports you found.

use -p- flag is the same as -p1-65535. Also make sure the p is lower case. You can as well disable host discovery with -Pn and disable DNS resolv with -n. Usually to speed up my scan, I use nmap -sS -v - -min-rate 10000 - -max-retries 0 -p- <target-ip> sometimes if I don’t receive hit back, I remove the - - max-retries or increase it 2 which specifies the numbers of time you want nmap to poke the ports. Once I get all the open ports, I then run script scan and version scan on all open ports. I hope this help a little bit

Well usually I start up the target machine and then I hit the blue attackbox button for the inbrowser machine.

I can access other target machines but not this one that I was doing yesterday msfvenom.

At the moment when I hit start target machine in goes stright to these 2 screenshots.

im trying to install build-essential without any luck, ive checked every board on the first page of duckduckgo and not a single one has helped me yet.
when i try to install it it say it depends on g++, i try installing that and itself depends on g++-9, it requires libstdc++-9-dev, it needs libc6-dev, which needs libc6.
and when installing libc6 it is already installed?? i was about to remove and re-install it but that felt like a bad idea so i didnt follow through.

How would i go about finding out the FTP variant type of a port? Is there an nmap switch for that?

If you are referring to the Network Services Task from what i remember you get the variant from enumerating that FPT server.... I think you get it from the normal scan at the start of the output but can't remember exactly if there is a switch for it, but don't think so, try a normal nmap scan and see what it shows you...

Aye that would be the task - I've done the nmap scan and i know which port is an FTP but i need to figure out how to find the FTP variant of the port. I'm trying to google the documentation around but it's a bit of a struggle 😅

I increased verbosity to get more info on the scan but that didn't seem to help.

Hey good people. I am going through the https://tryhackme.com/room/winprivesc room, and this is all about privilege escalation. To gain access to the system it says "The machine attached to this task is the same as the one used in task 4."
There is no task 4. This room is part of the Jr Penetration Tester Path/Privilege Escalation.
Any guidance for access to the VM would be greatly appreciated.

Could try to exploit a vuln to access the machine, but I got a feeling the credentials for the initial foothold are given somewhere, though not documented.

Hi, I'm doing the Overpass room and I'm using the Attackbox.

I'm near the end and I am trying to spin up a web server on my machine on port 80 with python.

python3 -m http.server 80

I get an error saying that something else is using port 80 so I check with:

lsof -i :80

And when I try to kill a process:

kill PID

the Attackbox crashes.

I know I can do this if I spin up my own VM but I want to confirm whether it's possible or not to use port 80 like this on the Attackbox.

Not sure what you mean with that, but as soon as you go to purchase the sub with paypal, you get transfered to the paypal payment page, so if paypal doesn't give you the option there, it's not up to thm. I had that also happening sometimes on other sites, but it's because of paypal "chose" that way of handling that specific transaction.

Hi there! I am running into an issue in the Packets and Frames room in the Pre Security Path. I have completed all of the answers, yet it shows I am only 50% done with the room, but there are no more questions, and all the questions have green checks showing complete. I tried resetting progress for the room and went back to answer again, hoping this would fix it, but now there are two of every task; i.e. Task 1 followed by Task1, etc. I answered everything again and received the celebration confetti at the end, but it still shows 50% and 12 questions answered. Everything else is completed for Pre Security Path, including the final room 'Extending Your Network', but due to the issue with Packet & Frames room, I am stuck at 95% progress for the Pre Security path. Any ideas on how this can be resolved? Seems there are at least a dozen or more others having the same issue.

This makes the output totally useless...
