i get response when i ping the room machine with my virtualbox but the site won't load on browser

Hey everybody. I keep deploying the machine in https://tryhackme.com/room/kuberneteschalltdi2020 and it never seems to start up Kube service so I can complete the room. Is the room somehow b0rked? Port 6443 SHOULD have come up, and it hasn't. I have tried cycling the VM several times, and the only port that ever opens is SSH (22).

Having issues with the "Vulnerversity" machine. I can connect to other machines no problem but that one I'm unable to connect to, but it does respond to ping requests. Doesn't work regardless of whether I use OpenVPN or the Attack Box. Worked a couple days ago but I haven't been able to get it working the past day or so. Have tried stopping and starting multiple times, waiting up to half an hour for it to start, etc.

There's something weir in THM website in any rooms. Let's say I am in a room with 3 "tasks" and I've completed the first one. I'm now working on task 2 but when I need to go back and click on the task 1 dropdown title, it's actually reloading the entire page and force me to stay in task 2 ! .. Cleared Chrome cache / logout then login but still the same problem.

Need help with the vpn. Have connected, can ping boxes I'm trying to attack but if I go to connect to the website I'm trying to attack, it just times out. I've confirmed the website works in an attackbox. Is there something obvious I could be missing? Only outlying data point I can think of is that I'm already behind a vpn, I know double NAT'ing causes problems, could this be a double VPN issue?

Have you compared your tun0 IP with the IP you used for the rev shell? As I also saw that the machine IP on the access page on THM is not the same as the tun0 IP of your own machine. Also check ifconfig to make sure you only have a tun0 interface and not like tun1, tun2 etc. Also you might be behind a firewall, so worth to check that as well.

After the upgrade finished I was able to stay connected via RDP to the VM in the room for one hour. So the problem is resolved! usually they will use 2 tun devices if both use openvpn

i.e one will be tun0 and the other tun1 most likely

might be some complications and problems if you do though but those things shadow can't see as they have never tried to run 2 vpns at the same time

This most probably indicates that ruby version installed does not meet requirement of msf because it tries to initialise an object in different way that is expected (Using the last argument as keyword parameters is deprecated). These are warnings so normally could be ignored if msf is working correctly

Well if it's even not working in the attackbox (the browser machine) then there is no issue with the vpn. What room are you doing? As only if you can't ping a machine, doesn't mean there is something wrong.

Maybe try to refresh it, but either way, to check if you are connected, it's not too reliable to check it on the websites access page for example, as sometimes it's not showing that you are connected. Rather do it with trying to access 10.10.10.10 (like you already did) or with curl 10.10.10.10/whoami

Yeap, sometimes it work great and sometimes is a constant connection drop. I also see that the VPN drops connection every now and then has to reconnect.

But the last day or so I have also seen issues with the AttackBox. Like that error above on the browser, and yesterday it flag out refused to connect, it was a different error though if I recall correctly some kind of pink screen saying something along the lines of having issues connecting to remote desktop.

So if you are having connection issues while being connected to a target machine via ssh from your machine, you could try sudo ifconfig tun0 mtu 1200 to see if that solves that issue. Just make sure to be either not connected to the target machine while you run that command or reconnect after you run it.

Oh you are talking about the streaks. Well you don't get the streak for logging in, you get the streak for answering a question each day. So purely logging in will not increase you streak, you have to answer a question in a room.

Well basically you have to answer a question each day before 00:00 depending on your timezone. After 00:00 it's a new day and therefore if you answer a question after 00:00 you can increase your streak by another +1 if you answer another question.

Well seems you have 2 tun interfaces, but it shouldn't be 2. So run sudo killall openvpn and connect to the vpn again. Then check again to make sure you only have tun0 and not any extra like tun1, tun2 etc. Also use the IP from that tun0 interface for the rev shell then.

With all the rooms and certificates I earned, say, Jr. Penetration Tester I earned in October, and I have not been on TryHackMe because I've been busy at work. It sounds to me that, you need to keep hacking each room everyday in order to maintain your streak, or whatever else that is.

Hey, I am having some trouble accessing a machine in my browser, I successfully connected using OpenVPN on a windows machine using my configuration file, I managed to connect to the machine of the tutorial for connecting to a machine (https://tryhackme.com/room/tutorial) but when I try to connect to a machine in this room (https://tryhackme.com/room/linuxfundamentalspart1) I simply get ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED.

I have tried to terminate the machine and create a new one two times without success, I have made sure I connect to the VPN before I create a machine. Nothing seems to work.

Well the tutorial room target machine has a webserver running that allows you to connect to it via your browser to verify that you are connected to the VPN. The linux fund target machine don't, so you either have to ssh into that machine (not sure what the creds for that machine are). But usually that machine should spawn inside your browser in split view (only for linux fund 1, the rest of these room series you have to ssh into the target machine)

I started my kali linux. Then i start open vpn with:

i downloated the config new from thm.

this works, but i can´t connect to my machine with ssh as written in the learning path.

I get: ssh: connect to host IP port 22: connection timed out.

But the ping works.

At the vpn i get:

The attackbox is the machine you are using to attack the rooms target machines, it's kind of an replacement of your own machine if you don't want/can to use your own machine to attack. So depending on what room you are doing, it might look different because you haven't started the rooms target machine.

But in case it is very important for you to have your name on the cert, you could first check/ask if it's fine to have multiple THM accounts, then make sure your full name is in your new accounts profile and just go through all the tasks again by copy pasting the answers from one account to the other until you finished the path.

I mean you can try to get a new vpn config from the access page on THM, or change the vpn server, but I doubt that will help, but give it a try. Other then that I guess you have to look if the issue is within one of the reasons in the message where I provided the link to you.

You have to join the networks room itself first in order for that to work.

Hey everyone. Just had a quick question. I’m fairly new here and to THM I’m on Linux fundamentals Part 2. Task 2. When I hit “start machine” the machine starts right up and there’s no issues. Now in the task it says to open up the attack box as well. When trying to open the attack box it loads up all the way. At the very end after trying to connect it says “Failed to connect to server” I opened the attack box in my browser and am currently rocking the split view. If anyone has any tips or ideas on how to help I’d be more than willing to hear any input. Unfortunately I can’t post screenshots because the plus button on here is blurred out. I’ll do my best to be descriptive

@naive dust I tried the ovpn setup and no dice. I was connected to the US VIP and still couldn’t get the machine to work. Went through the website and got the hidden code to confirm I was connected and I’m still getting the same errors.
