hello, a few things

1. You don't need SUDO for SSH
2. You need the username myusername to be a "user" that has SSH permissions on the target system. - and also their password

You can use --min-rate 2000, it might affect the results.
For example, a service might not get scanned.

Try sudo nmap -sSV -T5 --min-rate 2000 -p- -Pn IP
A SYN scan (-sS) (default) should be faster than the Connect scan (this is selected as the fallback when nmap doesn't have enough privileges)
IIRC, it performs a two way handshake instead of three way
And you need root privileges for this type of scan
(multiple edits for clearance😅 )

Moreover, you should not hammer the target machine.
It doesn't give clear results, you might miss a port or two

Some googling had me check data/juiceshop.sqlite and I see a db, but no Wallets. I'm out of my depth at this point.

From my googling - "If all startup checks show (OK) but you see SequelizeDatabaseError: SQLITE_ERROR: no such table: <some table name> errors right afterwards, please check if the file data/juiceshop.sqlite exists. If so just stop and restart your server and this suspected race condition issue shouid go away."

i got a laptop so i could make work independent from my desktop that i mainly use for games and since i was in the path of learning pentesting i installed kali in it

i got a ryzen 7 5800H and a radeon rx 5500

everything is working fine but when i try to use hashcat i get a weird CL error that im not sure what causes it

I have a general security question, not exactly THM-related but I hope this is the right place to ask.

So my PC runs Windows, and I've been running all this time an Ubuntu VM under Virtualbox. Though, as much as I tried it just simply is unbearably slow. I can work with it, but it takes 30-60 seconds to start firefox kind of slow. I've tried every trick on the interwebs to get it faster but I haven't been so lucky.

Now I've heard of something called "KVM" to make powerful VMs. Thing is, that is a Linux thing. So one question would be: Is there an equivelent to this? I'd hazard to say no, but might as well ask, perhaps someone know something.

Another option that I've though of is to install Ubuntu (or any OS, linux in general) on a stick. It won't be as fast as installing it on the PC but it should be faster than just running it under Virtualbox. The issue is: Is this safe? With a virtualbox if it get infected chances are that it will be unable to escape the VM. Worst thing it could do is to try and use all the resources given to the machine to mine bitcoin or smth. And even then I can just wipe it and start new. But what about running an OS from a stick?

Would, say, an infected system on a stick be able to access/encrypt (ransomware) the main HDD? Or could it try to render the BIOS inoperable? I've never tried to run an OS from a stick and I have no idea what it can do.

Note: I thought of this while writing, perhaps I could get myself and external HDD/SSD, put some lightweight linux distro on it and run VMs with QEMU/KVM on it. Mad insane? Perhaps. Could it work? Maybe.

I'm completing the Nessus room (https://tryhackme.com/room/rpnessusredux) and trying to set up Nessus Essentials using the given activation code; I just signed up now but I'm getting an "invalid activation code" error. I'm trying to crack a salted sha512 hash with john, but I keep getting the formatting wrong. I'm using the dynamic_81 format (sha512($s.$p)) and my hash file contains: $salt.$hash

What you mean with down? The room page itself is not opening or the machine not working? As the room page is opening just fine for me. But in case it is the room page, try ctrl + F5 (hard refresh) if you are on chrome or firefox to see if that solves the issue

I believe I already hat that happen before. It might sound weird as you are not accessing the page via the vpn, but chaning the vpn server on the access page solved that issue. But as you said other rooms are loading just fine, it might won't help, but giving it a try would be worth it. Otherwise maybe try to log out of your account and back in.

I know that, just like I said, I had that issue with room pages not loading as well once, and a few others also reported it, when I went to the access page the OpenVPN Access Details kept loading, so I decided to just change the vpn server in the dropdown on the access page and right after I did that the room pages where working again. Also like I said, it might will not solve the issue as you said it's just for 2 room pages, but giving it a try would be worth it.

Mh, did you check the suggestion ? Regarding system time and always regenerate the config file? Maybe there is something purposely blocking vpn's in the location you are in ? Have you checked if there is any firewall ? What you also could try is to look for any free vpn servers to check if it's just with the tryhackme ones or in general. As well as trying to update your openvpn.

I have a bit of a problem I am hoping someone can help me with. I am connecting to THM using my kali vm. I have openvpn running and it says it is connected, I have an IP, etc.. I ran the thm-troubleshooter script and it said everything is fine and that I am connected. I have restarted my kali box as well, got a fresh VIP configuration script (twice) to the Western US. I start a room, and at first I can connect to it, but after running only one or two commands it begins to hang or become extremely slow. I have to restart the VPN connection for it to work again and get going again. most recently I did the Source room and I could not even use a vulnerability since it kept failing. I disconnected and reconnected the VPN and still failed to be able to scan. I opened the attackbox in the kali browser and was able to finish the room that way, so I know I was doing the exploit correctly. One more thing to note, I am able to ping the boxes, but the connection is unreliable at best and frustrating to use.

Only because you can't ping a machine doesn't mean there is something wrong with it. Some machines have ICMP disabled then you won't be able to ping it.
And regarding the webserver, if there is no webserver you obviously can't connect to it.

Well if it's about connecting remotely to a windows machine I would suggest to try remmina, most of the time it's working with it.

Well if you have found any firewall, you might have to look up how to disable it, might be pretty different to what firewall it is. But honestly I don't know too much about firewalls, so therefore you better to ask for someone who has more knowledge about firewalls or just try to look it up on google.

I think at some point in my troubleshooting it had had 30 minutes to boot

At 10 minutes getting connection refused on both my vm and the attack box for both curl and browser

It looks like you are scanning your own system IP, ip addr show wlan0 or something
