Has nmap become slower suddenly? I took a break and came back and I've noticed that using the attackbox nmap scans are taking 30+ minutes if it's something like more than 20k ports at once. Oddly, it's relatively fast to nmap scan the same number of ports in chunks of 5k

it's hard to put every tool on the attack box, usually it has the more common ones. If you like a certain tool I would recommend setting up a kali vm then connecting on the vpn if that is possible

Heyo I was recommended to play around with the Linux Terminal in the Pre-Security Course | Room: Linux Fundamentals Part 1. I decided to play around with the command echo, as well as the operators of &&, <<, and on the side cat. For fun and to get used to typing it right I went to create a little story, but something seems to be breaking it, Idk what I'm doing to break it however; I can't even clear the terminal console. And no I did not spam the terminal I did this slowly so it wouldn't break, so those spaces and the spam clear commands weren't me just flooding the terminal in seconds lol.

Why do my streaks keep getting arbitrarily reset? I just set up two rooms to work on one after the other. On the first room I answered a question and it went to a 10 day streak. Then ~15 minutes later I went to a diff room for a moment because I wanted to set it up for later before I forget (Nessus) and on completing an item it said I have a 1day streak! Now I reload the previous room just to see and I am back to 1day there also. This is not the first time this has happened but every time it is more frustrating!

I would manually change my DNS regardless as a good point of reference. Unless it's an issue related to your machine I cant think of anything else as you have done the necessary steps for troubleshooting eg cleared cache, different browser, different network.

You running exclusively on WiFi? If so try ethernet and disable WiFi, see if results change?

May sound strange to test these things but I have seen strange things on customers machines in the past

Agreed mate. I flushed my dns as well right now and tested still not working .Will try with etthernet cable but I don't expect it to do any wonders. Yup I’ve been using this from a commando VM.

Spawn the VPN on the windows host.

WSL2 spawns a VM, which had a dynamically changing IP address for each time you boot your computer. Any traffic generated from WSL2 for your tryhackme network will be forwarded to the windows host, who will then push it down the VPN tunnel. You can also get traffic back.

However the issues come in when trying to have the remote server connect to your listener in WSL2. The connection gets to your windows computer running on the VPN, and the windows computer doesn’t know what to do with it.

You need to set up a port forwarding script on windows that you execute every time you boot WSL2, because the IP of WSL2 changes each runtime (not each terminal session, but each time the main pc is shut down and the WSL service restarts.

It's been months, but I can confirm that the Juiceshop room still has this issue. Root cause: Juiceshop includes at least one module that your browser will try to load from CloudFlare, which isn't available on the Attacking machine VDI. After about a minute, the site will load anyway.

It might be a bit off-putting to new students, who might think something's broken. Seems that this one is best tackled via VPN.

Hello. Im having a problem connecting to openvpn. Seems like I was able to run nmap scan on the room but unable to open their websites. My openvpn says it is connected tho

@broken pelican Make sure you're not running two instances of the vpn ("ip addr" should only see one tun) Make sure you wait a little before trying to access the web browser as the box may still be loading. Also make sure that the task doesn't require another port to be used rather than the default 80.

Well hard to tell why it's not working. As it was showing you filtered, there could be some kind of network device or firewall blocking nmap from reaching the target I would assume. Is there any firewall activated on your machine? If so you could try to turn it off and try to scan again to see if it's working. Or instead of using the -sV flag try to use -sF
