File and Hash Threat Intel Task 3 Question 2. VirusTotal has changed the Threat Label.
VT says Trojan.graftor/blackmoon.
Site says the answer is: Trojan.graftor/flystudio.
Found the answer in an old walkthrough.
Task 4 same room question 3 also has changed on Hybrid Analysis. HA has a different answer, follow the same steps and double checked with Djalil Ayed’s walkthrough and his webpage shows an added process that HA no longer shows. That was the answer.
May I ask, after successfully connecting to the VPN of the "Breaching Active Directory" room on the first day, it has been unable to connect ever since. Why is that?
What error are you getting?
The AD room requires the use of a dedicated VPN. I connected the VPN on the first day and everything was fine. However, starting from the second day, the VPN could no longer be connected. The same VPN in other rooms was functioning normally.

Also, fwiw.. This is beside the upload box: "Upload* (Accepted file types: .ova)". However, these are the instructions at the bottom: "Currently, you can only upload VMs in Open Virtualisation Format (OVF)."

the first 3 tasks 45 min 45 min 1h worked all excellent, at forth it blocked, I gave up, I left 3 questions unanswered, I took a break 3 hours, I came back, started 4th task 1h, the entire hour I restarted VM, at this point exam is lost because an entire task not answered.... I contacted support, I still ahve 15 hours of the exam but because the task is lost is no sense to continue, no answer from support... (issue fixed by support)
I sent email no answer ... and the exam is lot, I couldn't answer first question even in 1 h... I kept restarting nothing worked ...I took video of the event. I hope they will be able to analyse what happened and give me back my chance, because I really learned 3 months for this... (issue fixed by support)

Hello. I can't connect with openvpn. Im using kali linux on a vmware virtual machine. I downloaded the configuration file and installed openvpn. but when I run openvpn with the configuration file, it just doesnt connect. I even ran thm-throubleshoot and it says 'could not reach vpn server after 10 attempst- skipping mtu optimisation' . Can you help me sort this out. thanks

No, this doesn't happen for all machines.
When you click start machine, you'll get a red box with "active information" on it.

hey! just to keep you in the loop, I personally picked up your ticket within an hour of it being opened and sent two follow-ups after, but we haven't heard back from you since.
it may be worth checking your spam folder or reviewing your email settings to make sure our replies aren't being filtered out.

Hi, I have strange behaviour with the keyboard layout in windows target machines. The keyboard acts randomly like qwerty or azerty !
Also I can't copy/paste from my own computer into the machine using either keyboard shortkeys or contextual menu, but I can copy/paste from the machine to my computer.
Can't find any option to pass to the machine to set the keyboard layout at startup.

but Pre Security is like 31% done, and that's accurate. What is networking? 90% - Intro to LAN 95% - OSI Model 96% - Packets & Frames 83% - I did Extending Your Network but no % In my profile it says I finished Extending Your Network though

When I logged out then logged back in later it sent me a message ( an email I think) saying that someone had tried to log into my account from another location and wanted me to verify whether or not it was me. I had just tried to sign in, but was not in a different location unless perhaps a different part of the yard might count.🤔 Either way, I didn't verify due to being uncertain as to whether it was me or not. Soon after when I clicked on the app to try again, I think it had me already logged in. I've been wondering about this since and decided maybe I should say something.

Hello! I was doing now I final section of a PT1 exam (Active Directory), and suddenly lost connectivity on my virtual machine with VPN. It was written in console something about TLS negotiation error. I tried to reset network, regenerate a VPN config file, but this didn't help. I tried to use a AttackBox, but on AttackBox the AD machines weren't accessible. What can I do? Will I have a possibility to retake the exam?

Now I can share what I'm talking about. When you click "view path", the roadmap appears on top of everything, on the left. I've been seeing it like this since last week. I'm pretty sure it wasn't like that before.

@ivory spruce I think it's from y'all and it came in right when I tried to log in. It's hard to say for certain though. I didn't grow up with much access to computers and have been trying to catch up on the basics. Job quizzes kept saying that Cybersecurity would be a good match which seemed odd but I finally gave it a try with this tryhackme program. I have been enjoying it so far, but am still at the pre security level though I have sampled some things from rooms in other pathways.
never too late to learn something new, its actually really good that you're learning it now. I know so many people in my life who just refuse to learn and suffer later because they didn't know basic cybersecurity hygiene or what malware was and ended up downloading it.
An Error 500 usually means the problem is server-side, not that your flag is necessarily wrong. If it happens in only one room, the room backend may be broken. If it happens across all rooms, it may be an account/session issue or corrupted browser state. Test in private mode or another browser, reset/rejoin the room, and if it still happens, open a THM support ticket with the room name, timestamp, screenshot, and the failing network request from DevTools.
Thanks for the idea to create a new profile for MU-TH-UR. That worked out just fine. However, I am now stuck in Task 6 where I was when I first abandoned this 'CI/CD and Build Security' room last year. I have added tryhackme.com to the allowlists in Google Workspace. Would you please be so kind as to try and send me an email from support again to see if that has resolved it, and let me know here when done? I checked the email logs, and I didn't see anything that had been rejected, but we had many that arrived successfully about Leagues, Badges, promos etc to both of our THM users. I really need help to get past this blocker. For now, I will add more info to the devsecops-path chat room.

Yeah, I've tried to submit it using my host and the VM, same error across different machines.
Is there a way to select text and either copy paste into google or right click when highlighted and "search google for X", everytime i highlight text it dissapears once i release my mouse button.. Sometimes im reading in bed with only a mouse next to me before going to sleep and want a more broad explanation on something and i have to get up and manually google it. lazy problems 😄

pinging the machine ip gives no respond, My internet is up, (ping 1.1.1.1 replies) the settings tell that the my machine is connected to openvpn network, but this ip does not respond, I have been solving rooms this way(Removes the chance of a flaw in firewall) but today is the first time that the machine is not responding.
If this is a Windows machine, this won't respond to ping requests because of Windows firewall.

Hi, I’m having an issue with the exam check-in identity verification step. (SEC0 exam guidelines agreement)
The form asks me to enter my full name (as it will appear on the certificate), but no matter what I enter, I get the error: “The provided username must be less than 20 characters and contain no symbols.”
I’ve already tested multiple variations:
- Full name
- Short versions
- No spaces
- Only letters
Nothing passes validation, even very simple inputs like “Test”.
This looks like a bug or incorrect validation on the form, especially since it asks for a full name but seems to validate it like a username.
Could someone please check if the check-in form is working correctly or clarify what exact format is required here? I’m currently blocked from proceeding with the exam.

I managed to resolve the issue on my own. It turns out the problem was related to the username on my profile. After changing it to one without any special characters, the check-in process worked correctly,

Try to change your local network subnet (e.g. from 10.10.x.x to 192.168.x.x)

also wouldnt it be the opposite, because its giving me a local 192.xx ip and i can't go to 10.xx IPs, and koth only gives me 10.xx ips
Check your routes first
Windows: route print
Linux: ip route
Look for a route like.. 10.0.0.0/8 via VPN interface
If it's missing, your traffic to 10.x.x.x is not going through the VPN
then u can try reconnect VPN (sometimes routes fail to push), disable split tunneling in VPN settings
or manually add a route

however, you can use your own machine as attacker by connecting to thm ovpn by openvpn.

Use any Text Editor and edit the content of the read_secret.sh. Inside that file, write a script to read the contents of secret.txt. What is inside secret.txt?

@frigid sphinx : funny you're asking that, as I am in the same situation. I'm a monthly premium user and wanted to get the 30% annual discount but was not able to find any way to upgrade. I've reached out to support but did not get any satisfying answer so far. I thought that by cancelling my current subscription, I'd be able to renew it with an annual one, but no. Even after cancelling, I still cannot get the discount nor switch to annual.
I don't get why the discount is offered if you can't benefit from it. Or maybe I'm just too dumb and could not figure it out.

In the Blue room, it needs me to background the shell with CTRL + Z, but for some reason, keyboard shortcuts don't work for me in the TryHackMe Attack Boxes.
How can I fix keyboard shortcuts so they work inside the AttackBoxes?
Click the little arrow on the left of attack box - there's a sub menu where you can "turn on ctrl"

I think the problem is your instructions were not clear so I used an IP address that wasn't allowe and now I am being blocked

Hello, i have a problem with getting back reverse shells. I am on macbook using Parallels to run Kali linux. I am running the Openvpn on the Kali linux machine. I can interact with the machines but when i am trying to get an shell it never works.
- I've tried doing it on the web kali machine with THM and it worked fine so it isn't wrong settings.
- I've reseted everything, installed new OVPN config, I am running using Bridged networked but i've tried the shared as well
- I've disabled the kali firewall using ufw
- I've run the troubleshooting script and this is the output i got

[+] tun0 exists
[+] tun0 IP is in the correct range
[+] Only one instance of OpenVPN is running
[+] Confirming connectivity

- When i run the openvpn and ping 192.168.128.1 i get the same ip in return.

good - so what was your issue?
The Bot was telling me that the IP address to use was stagnant at 10.0.41.192, so I was following that direction. No matter how hard i tried couldn't connect, no where in the instructions did it say use the IP of the attack box. The wording in the room saying use MACHINE_IP, they should just say use your current instance IP give up where the terminate button is located. Would of been more clear to me at least being brand new

MACHINE_IP is a placeholder - it will change to the the Target IP once the the target machine is ready.

For future generations: Public THM badges got depricated some time ago. You can't get them from your profile or by using https://tryhackme.com/api/v2/badges/public-profile?userPublicId=<ID>.
The only workaround for now is to use https://tryhackme.com/api/v2/public-profile?username=<Account Name>.png.
Two notes though - account name is case-sensitive, if your nickname was recently changed, it will take a while to update.

I am showing you a ping that based on the THM troubleshooting website, when u are connected to openvpn, should return 10.x.x.x ip to confirm you are connected successfully. Which it doesn't. I am testing on the Blue lab, doing basic Eternalblue with metasploit using meterpreter/reverse_tcp payload. When i do it the exact same way on the web based kali linux that is provided by THM, it works fine with no problems
THM changed their OpenVPN infrastructure so that your tun0 is on a 192.168.x.x network, and the OpenVPN server routes traffic between your tun0 and the target’s 10.x.x.x address space. You no longer need an IP in the same subnet because routing tables handle the connectivity.

try a self-contained test that removes Eternalblue and msfconsole as variables. i'd try one of the linux fundamental machines you can ssh into, then test your rev shell with a netcat listening from a term on your kali machine
Fixed it finnally. It was somekind of a parallels networking issue. The bridge network was tweaking

I’m experiencing a recurring issue with the lab machines across multiple rooms.
The problem is:
- The machine expires immediately after I click “Start Machine”
- Sometimes I get redirected to a “Page not found” error
- This issue is happening in multiple labs, not just a single room
What I’ve already tried:
- Restarting machines (Terminate → Start)
- Reconnecting the VPN
- Logging out and back in
- Refreshing the browser and clearing cache
- Trying a different browser
I also noticed that when I access TryHackMe from Kali Linux, everything works normally. The issue only happens on my main system.
My VPN connection is working correctly, so I believe this may be a platform-side issue or related to my environment.
This issue is preventing me from continuing my learning progress.

I just started the lab, but it shows the target IP with no time left.
That is because it is still booting up. In the image you sent me, you have to wait until the IP appears.

Hello. I was just on the "Pickle Rick" CTF and after submitting the first answer, i was immediately taken to the whole "congratulations of completing this room, here's your breakdown" page. When I went back to the challenge room, all answers were filled in. I'm not sure if it's just me or there is an issue with the room right now.

I’m having an issue with TryHackMe labs.
Problem:
- When I click “Start Machine”, it shows 0m 0s (expires immediately) or doesn’t start
- Sometimes I get a “Page not found” error
- This happens in multiple rooms
What I tried:

- Clearing cache & cookies
- Incognito mode
- Disabling extensions
- Trying different browsers
Additional notes:
- It works fine on Kali Linux
- On my Windows system, the issue persists

From which location or THM OpenVPN server did you generate your OpenVPN config file?
Initially, I generated my OpenVPN configuration file from the Europe (Paris) server/location.
However, I have since deleted that configuration and generated new ones from:
- Europe (Frankfurt)
- Europe (Ireland)
When you connect to OpenVPN, which OpenVPN config file are you using?
And does that correslond to where your THM network connection is being routed to?
I am currently using the OpenVPN configuration file from Europe (Paris) – EU-WEST-3, and my THM Virtual Machine region is also set to Europe (Paris).

HI im coming towards the end of the SAl2 exam but ive really struggled with the VM's. On the following paths on the exam they did not deploy and I did what I could without the vm being deployed. This is very heartbreaking for me.

Agenda Deception VM (low)
I do not want to start the final Vm named "no flight today" this is because ive had an issue with the vms and sla is about to expire. Please help with this issue as I only have 44 hours left of the exam.
Its taken me so long to do the exam but knowing the fact that im losing marks on the vms not being deployed is very disheartening and killed my morale. Splunk , edr and all the others were able to get deployed but on each vm section it just did not load up and the sla timer was going down.

It seems like the ticketing event was taken down early. I see the room in the AI path that describes the events, but no rooms have tickets next to them. I noticed because I just completed one of them and didn't get a ticket. My home page also doesn't show anything about the event anymore.

@jolly depot hey! I posted in here a bit earlier. The issue only happens when I run my attacks and generate some traffic to the target. Tryhackme will throw a disconnect error. I’ll have to refresh the page, restart the target then scan again. But it’ll the dc. Took a break from the machine so I’ll try and come back to it and see if the issue persist

I typically use my own machine but I was on a different workstation so I was using the Kali image provided by THM

it's def DNS not configured properly, it looks like you didn't run systemctl restart dnsmasq to allow your nameserver edit to take effect.
verify the file actually contains the entry:

I did not receive any alert mails, but I do have a crazy ex that is also a hacker, but it's unlikely that she did something, she is not on that level, and THM should be secure from account takeover.

It also shows I answered only 1 question in the "comparing with other people" part of dashboard. Which is weird as I know for a fact I answered more
I did a query of my Firefox history, showing me I did more than >3 events that night before midnight

THM resets at 12am UK time - so for example in my timezone it's 1am
If you did rooms around 12am UK time, it could mean that they just counted towards next day for example
I am also 1 hour ahead of UK time, so it couldn't count it for the next day
Digging through my Firefox logs, I did a recap, and a couple of tasks, all before midnight my timezone
Which doesn't matter as much, as I would have had a whole hour before the day reset
Hm, the AI from the room I was in at the time, confirms to me that I went over midnight my timezone before answering more questions.
Which, again, shouldn't matter if the THM day reset is 12AM UK time, leaving me with a bit less than an hour to get my events clocked in
Regarding my issue, I was informed that my profile has been deleted (I want to STRESS that I did not delete it myself) and that I should simply open a new account.

We're referring you to the Support email as it is the official way for issues like this, and, we don't discuss account matters in public channels for privacy reasons.
So, it really is an attempt to scrub the complaints. It’s a good thing I posted everything on LinkedIn and shared it on X, then. When support fails and I keep hitting a brick wall, perhaps public pressure will manage to improve things—so that a platform teaching people cybersecurity can actually be secure itself.

The IP address fills in once the machine is assigned an IP, ususally about 45 seconds. Is that not happening for you?

I was able to find a GitHub action that seems to show the badge process requires two steps:
Generating a badge by hitting https://tryhackme.com/badge/regen/yourUserId

this isnt that deep man, just answer 1 question daily - that's it, streak intact, even resetting a room and answering 1 question works- not rocket science but does require some thought

I would suggest either right clicking on highlighted text and hitting copy if that isn't what you already do. It works for me. And also put it in the clipboard pop-out. That is good as well
Great to hear that. I would suggest making it a bit more public, like where you put the other stuff to bring the heat, but also in this server channel. It was a big deal so you made it one, but now that it is perfectly back, I suggest making that a big deal as well. You basically lost nothing now. That is HUGE. Make it so.
Just like a message on how the team helped you get everything back. I personally would want to show it from the mountain tops, but that is just me. I would just be reasuring to everybody to know that if this happens to them, it can be fixed.
I'm definitely planning to share the positive outcome once the final details are settled. I'm currently waiting for the access logs from the support team so I can perform a proper post-incident analysis. Once I have the full picture, I'll be happy to shout it from the mountain tops!
Great to here it! And for you, but also anyone else who reads this, make sure you enable 2FA if you sign in with an email + password combo. Or better yet, if you sign in with Google, then you can enable MFA at your Google account level. This makes it very very hard for an attacker to gain control of your account. Google sign-in is better, because their security is top-tier.

What room were you on? And try taking a screenshot of the VM from outside it, and then have an LLM like ChatGPT or Copilot write out the text inside it. ChatGPT is the best for it though
I am at the soc L1 Tempest room-working with base64 encoded looong texts, which i am extracting from wireshark packets.
Since the text are too long, unfortunatelly screenshot option doesnt work here. The display is not enough.

hi y'all, not a particularly large request but i'd love to see a bit more support for dialect in some of the answer choices. i just wasted 15 minutes on a question trying to figure out exactly what answer was wanted, only to find out that the correct answer was the first thing i inputted. only issue was that it needed me to type "authorisation" as part of the answer instead of "authorization" (the most common american spelling)
this has happened on numerous occasions and while i've learned over time to check, these instances still do occur and can be quite frustrating to deal with
