I have "Double login" problem.

To log-in in THM account every time i have to sign in- I enter email, password and when press log-in it asks to enter login information one more time. Credentials entered are correct. When entering them second time, only then it asks for MFA key from app. Happening on other PC and mobile app as well.

Does someone else have this problem?

Hello guys. I'm trying to connect to the machine from "AOC Day 14 - Containers" with my VM (via VPN) and, although I can ping the server and even scan its ports with nmap (as shown in the picture here), I get no response from the application hosted on the port 5001 (which is the one that I need to connect for the tasks in the room). On the other hand, it's working fine in the AttackBox, but it's making no sense to me.

excuse me. Can I ask why my premium account has 0m0s of time machine when completing the AoS task and it can't be restored?
As a result, the machine does not display valid flags correctly or at all.
thought if I buy premium it will be ok.
This situation happens even with a newly opened roomfor the first time, and I think until the 5th day everything was fine. At the bottom right there was 1-2h. When the time passed I added 1h with the button. Now it is 0h0m and nothing can be added . I follow the exercises on YouTube and copy the flags from the videos 😞

Hello, I need help regarding the use of a Kali VM to actually access the site's stuff using openVPN.

I'm using Mint as the main distro with VirtualBox running Kali. I downloaded the openVPN file, it's running in the background and the site shows me as connected. I'm able to ping the machine I'm trying to attack so I figure the connection is fine. But when I try to nmap it, it doesn't actually seem to reach the device, it just gets stuck perpetually loading. Is it something in the configuration that's incompatible or do I just need to wait longer? Using the AttackBox to do this was definitely not taking this long.

I have a problem with the VPN. It connects and works for a short time, then stops working even though it still says I am connected. I tried changing rooms, regenerating the VPN, reconnecting, running it with sudo, and updating it. Each time, it only works for one or two minutes.

I need urgent help regarding a False Positive Ban on my Yearly Premium Account.

I was inactive for a few days due to my exams. When I logged in 3-4 days later, I was shocked to see my account had been banned.

I immediately contacted support via email. It has been over 3 days, and I haven't received any response. I sent a follow-up email today as well, but still silence.

As a premium subscriber, I am really worried about losing my subscription days and streak without any valid reason.

I am having an issue with my VM and the THM machines. I can ssh into the machine and run a basic command like ls, but if I try to run something like cat /etc/passwd then the machine just breaks and becomes unresponsive.

I ran the thm-troubleshoot script and everything appears working. Has anybody else had the same issues?

In my example, I used THM AttackBox (Ubuntu flavour) which comes with 2.6
the other THM AttackBox (Kali flavour) comes with 2.5, and apt update; update install openvpn worked, but that is because Kali uses different repos than Ubuntu

The machine IP is working fine on firefox (i'm on the race condition room, i can connect with the 2 users on the website), but everytime i try to connect with burp, i can't. I’m having an issue with OpenVPN on TryHackMe. It worked correctly for one room, but then failed to connect afterward. I’ve tried reconnecting multiple times and re-downloading the .ovpn configuration, but that didn’t help.

At the moment, I cannot reach the VPN gateway at 192.168.121.1 (ping fails every time). Could you please advise on how to fix this or where I can get help with OpenVPN connectivity?

correct: you have a networking issue, whereby you seem not able to connect to the internet, and THM VPN servers need to be accessed by your machine
so you need to look at your machine, typically:

• if your machine is a VM running on, say, VirtualBox, you need to review how that was set up
• if you are using bare metal, you have a more fundamental networking issue, and you need to do basic troubleshooting of your OS

Not a major problem, but something I noticed. I have an iPad 11 inch (A16) and when I tried to use Python Basics on my Vivaldi browser, I always got the same error message when pushing Check on Hello World and Mathematical Operators. It would say, “There was a problem, please try again later.” Even when I tried to reset the room, it wouldn’t do anything.
When I switched over to Brave, I didn’t have these problems though.
Once again, not a major problem, but I prefer Vivaldi as a browser and wanted to note this.

@upbeat quarry I been trying since like 3 hours ago to launch the Active Directory Basics target machine from the site (no openvpn). I even had problems initiating it yesterday (although i did manage to do half of the room), but in the end i couldnt reopen it after i accidentaly logged off it. I already did most if not all of the troubleshooting steps i found in the page a popup directed me to. But most of the attempts the wait for like 20mins and the machines doesnt initiate.

Hello, I am having an issue with DNS in the "Breaching Active Directory" room on the attack machine. Followed the intro directions for setting up the attack machine but it doesn't seem to even be on the same network as shown in the diagram.

it seems that some countries target UDP VPN (like THM's VPN) but not TCP VPN (like HTB's VPN)
in addition, my impression is that some countries disrupt UDP VPNs, instead of blocking them completely, which means some day it works, and some other day it does not really work
the way to troubleshoot this further, in my opionion, is to try connecting to THM VPN using a different network than the current one you are using Some users set up a temporary hotspot using their smartphone It would be great if you had that option and made another attempt that way

• if you access the target for Active Directory Basics using the right pane in Split View you do not need THM VPN
• the idea of starting THM VPN earlier was in the context of the latency

What's the proper route for reporting a likely-buggy room? Looks like the Session Management room isn't populating the service DB properly and as a result the flag associated with a user account isn't retrievable (I've now seen it reported by multiple people both in this server and on the subreddit) looks like a report was already filed

you run the openvpn command at the beginning of your THM session: the output, when successful, finishes with Inizitalization Sequence Terminated 3-4 lines before the output stops
then, you leave that terminal open for the rest of your THM session (do not use Ctrl-C, Ctrl-X, Ctrl-Z, close the window/terminal, etc.)
the other commands, ip a, ip route, etc., are run in a separate terminal window

it is probably something to do with your network, rather than your machine By network I mean the network chain: ISP/operator, router(s), etc.
the way to solve this is to try to go through a different network Some users for that set up a temporary hotspot with their smartphone, and often the VPN works that way Then you can go back to the first network and troubleshoot each piece of the chain

that is not great, but not that bad (I have <30 ms)
that is where possibly you could try to avoid Wifi and get better performance, i. e. can you use a cabled connection instead of Wifi?
other options:

• I am not very hopeful, but try to switch VM Region under Manage Account: instead of Europe, use US-East (you can also try Asia, but that is not great for me usually) Then download the VPN file for the new region, and run openvpn again (kill the previous VPN session before with killall openvpn)
• consider the hotpot via smartphone (successful outcome with several users I have interacted with)
• connect from another place (neighbour, home vs. work/university/college, etc.), which means effectively try another network
  if all fails, and the problem is related to the country you are connecting from, you are left with THM AttackBox, but that is not appropriate unless you are a subscriber

Hi everybody, sorry if my questions have been answered before, I'm new here.

So, THM's web-based VMs don't work for me, they're too laggy, I can't work properly on them (I'm talking about AttackBoxes, not target VMs). Instead, I always use my own Kali VM with VirtualBox and OpenVPN to connect directly to THM's target VMs.

Now, the problem is that some rooms require you to connect to the AttackBox only (it's not possible to use SSH or VNC with those machines) because the goal is not to target a machine but to use pre-configured tools on that specific AttackBox, but as I said those web-based VMs are super laggy on my side.

Maybe those rooms are mostly in the Cyber Security 101 path and not in more advanced rooms, in which case problem solved I guess, but if I encounter such rooms later, do you know if there is any way to use my own VM instead of the AttackBox?
For example, maybe it's still possible to use VNC even though there are no credentials (I've tried without success but maybe I'm missing something)?

And another question while I'm here: do you have advice to reduce the latency when I use SSH to connect to target VMs from my own VM? Most of the time it's fine, but sometimes it gets a bit slow. The issue is not my bandwidth but the latency.

Hi, answering this and other people mentioning countries like China: I connect to my personal VPN on the host machine (Windows), and then OpenVPN on my Kali VM (VirtualBox, NAT mode). It works. But the latency is not great. Still better than AttackBoxes though.
The only weird thing is that I can't ping anything, I don't know why (if anyone has any idea why, please let me know, because it's weird I can access Google on the browser but not ping it from the terminal), but the rest works so I can use SSH.

You have tried changing your VM region to the closest possible region to where you live (Manage Account > VM and VPN Setting)?

Sounds like you have too many hops between your source to destination which would cause more latency. have you also tested your latency using the Kali attack box option (not the recommended Attack Box Option)?

Yes I did. I'm on the closest one. But I haven't tried them all, maybe some are actually faster, even if it's counterintuitive.
Actually I was doing some tests just now pinging 192.168.128.1 and indeed my average latency is 148ms so not great at all.
The troubleshoot script says I'm not connected to the Internet lol, even though I am (access to Google, THM's VMs etc.).

I've tried the Kali one once, and it was at least as laggy as the other one so I gave up right away, impossible to work properly.

The one I had is the fastest (or should I say the least slow) so I went back to that one. I guess I'm stuck with ~140ms.

Another issue I have is that, when I'm inactive for some time (even if less than 30min), the connection is lost and I have to reconnect to the VPN.
I've already added "keepalive 10 60" and "explicit-exit-notify 3" to the .ovpn file, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
Any idea?

I had the same problem, until I got verified. Go into Manage Account->Account Details. Scroll down to find your "Discord Token"
Then come to the Discord Server back and you can verify your account with a command and token. I DM the TryHackMe Bot and it worked for me.

I have done the exercise of repeating your procedure with the same setup:

• I connect my personal VPN(the free tier ProtonVPN), and it sends my traffic to the Netherlands, but other times it could be Romania, Norway, US, Japan, etc. (I cannot choose with the free tier)
• Windows 11
• VirtualBox NAT mode
• OpenVPN on Kali VM
• more context:
  • I connect from Western Europe
  • I use Europe as VM Region in THM
    Results:
• before connecting to THM VPN (i. e. 1 VPN active) I have very good latency to google.com (< 20 ms)
• after connecting to THM VPN (i. e. 2 VPNs active), the latency to google.com has become around 35 ms, i. e. worse but acceptable Also, my latency to 192.168.128.1 is about the same (35 ms)
• more interestingly: no issue with pinging google.com
  I wonder whether you have the chance of using ProtonVPN

I have a problem with the VPN. It connects and works for a short time, then stops working even though it still says I am connected. I tried changing rooms, regenerating the VPN, reconnecting, running it with sudo, and updating it. Each time, it only works for one or two minutes.

After that, I cannot ping anything or use Nmap, SSH, or FTP. No services work, and it feels like I am no longer connected to the network.
And even the ip I get is not in the same subnet
