Getting an error when trying to load up any of the room “static-labs.tryhackme.cloud’s server ip could not be found”
It was working last week but since yesterday I can’t load up any rooms, it shows a white screen and then times out and shows the above message
I’m using THM attack box
random shutdown with vm with course FlareVM: Arsenal of Tools
kept happening since last night

And the VM doesn't want to start. I've tried several times. After a loading for a wile it drops the message: "Failed to connect to server".
man when you're working your way though a room and the VMs are disconnecting its a gigantic pain in the ass
especially when it happens 15 min after bootup, then it keeps doing it after reboot lol
its driving me absolutely crazy man
it takes you out of your rhythm completely
like, why am I paying for the VMs when they don't work?

I'm currently doing thelayoftheland and when trying to access the VM that it wants me to deploy, im greeted with a Login page for the VM, with no input fields for credentials.. just a "Login" button...
and it always says "incorrect login" 🤷♂️

That bug happens sometimes try redeploying the VM and make sure your VPN/attackbox is connected. If it still shows just the login button, it’s prob a VM glitch THM support can fix it

i was actually going through the user and groups settings and i really did messed up things there, i created a new user and deleted the default one and after it my cli was plain and changed, somehow i got my cli back to normal
and also now when i use sudo and it asks password to me, even after entering correct pass it says auth failed, when i open the root terminal directly and enter the pass ,it works

ok soo i loged in THm in my kali , used the IN server, regenerated it , installed the file. adn then i connected, ran this command 'curl 10.10.10.10/whoami' , which showed me an ip. but when i go to the THM and refresh the page, it still shows 'Not Connected' on THM access page .

BloodHound CLI is trying to pull older Neo4j/Postgres images that don’t match the current Docker Compose setup.
Some of the docker-compose.yml environment variable syntax isn’t fully compatible with your Docker/CLI version.
The “initial password” for Neo4j must be set before the database container fully starts, or the login fails. .......... can't get bloodhound to work

I'm currently at the beginning of the Wreath network room and i connected to the network from my kali vm using the network VPN configuration file.
The material mentions the ip of the server that is the entrypoint for the attack is at the top of the page in the network panel, but the nor the network nor host parts of that ip correspond to the network i'm on or the machines that i can see in it with an nmap scan.I just wanted to check in with you guys and make sure I wouldn't be running attacks against the wrong target or worse - as i understand this room is a shared network with other THM users - against other users machines. Have i got something configured wrong or is there an issue somewhere else ?

typically, room VMs take 1 minute to come up with their IP, while THM Attackbox requires 2 minutes
you may have to wait more, depending on the room, for some services to be fully functional (first OS, then services), and usually the instructions for the room give you a heads-up
also, in my experience, Windows VMs come up slower than Linux VMs
but, I do not know how faster for a subscriber that is compared to a non-subscriber
That's fair. It made sense that the timer is there as a frustration point to make you want to subscribe, but I see no reason why it should be there as a subscriber.

I see no reason why they built in a timer to hide the IP for a full minute.

You're missing the point.
It takes seconds to start a VM. As shown by the fact that it starts the VM, AND THEN waits a full minute before showing you the IP.
Attackboxes, it's not clear why it takes 2 minutes. I see no reason it should take any longer than 10-30 seconds to spin up a VM, but that's a different story.
My issue is, why wait the minute before showing the IP.
The machine is ready to go, why make us wait.
Please enlighten me if there's some core reqs that I'm missing that makes this 1 or 2 minute delay reasonable. Because I see no reason for it.

I understand that you want something else than what THM is offering
I also recognize that there are many ways to build what THM are offering
somehow, I am satisfied with what THM are offering to me: I just wait 1 minute or 2 minutes, and usually it works (mind you, there are many bugs where that 1-2 minute situation fails, but that will be a conversation for other frustration moments 🙃 )
not to mention the technical aspects that go on in the background that we have no idea the process of such as actually assigning an IP for the machine 🤷
So, essentially, to guarantee everything has started, you set a 1 minute timer before letting us interact with the machine.
Fair enough I guess. While I think that's a ridiculous way to go about it, I guess that is one way of guaranteeing everything has started.

While I'm not happy with the silly timers, I guess that's just something to deal with.
At least with my own VM it's 1 minute instead of 2.
We use the timers to ensure that things on the VM have fully started. On quite a lot of the VMs there's all sorts happening in background, with some complicated stacks, so we aim a little bit higher on the timer just to make sure things are good to go. Pretty much the same as turning on your PC but having X amount of services/stacks start up on start-up
Appreciate the feedback though, 2 minutes does feel like 2 hours when you're watching it count down 😄 we have plans for making "better use" of those 2 minutes for users rather than just sitting around waiting. If you have any ideas, happy to hear 🙂
Absolutely.
I'd start by implementing a check and then a progress bar. If it was my service I wouldn't have the timer, this creates frustration like in my case.
Instead have a progress bar, and start when it's ready. This allows VMs that require little to no setup to be instantly ready. And VMs that require a bit more, to get the time it needs, without frustrating users as they can see that it's loading.
A timer tells me it's just "waiting" until the timer runs out. Again, very frustrating.
A simple check for starting a VM, that I'm sure requires far more complexity.
- This VM requires services X, Y, Z
- Has services X, Y, Z started? No? Ok, wait 5 seconds and check again.
- This service requires X, Y, Z files with these permissions.
- Has these files X, Y, Z been properly uploaded with correct permissions? No, wait 5 seconds and check again.
- This service requires X, Y, Z special setup. Case by case basis, just return a True flag when it's done, have a 5 second timer waiting for it.
- This VM requires an IP.
- Does it have an IP? No? Wait 5 seconds and check again.
On user side, every 10 seconds, return which step it's on.
Then it's very obvious what went wrong, and where it went wrong if something didn't load.
I am in the Authentication Bypass room. When I start the machine and get MACHINE_IP, I am redirected to http://10.10.118.53/customers/login (example), but it does not load. I am not using any browser extensions or VPN. How can I fix this error?
Are you using an attackbox or VPN? If you use a VPN, have you configured and launch openvpn ?
Im not using attackbox and openvpn. Before this, I could always access the site using the required IP address from my browser, but now it doesn't work.

Long story short, you're trying to access an internal IP, from your own home that's not a part of that internal network.
If you don't use the attack box you will need to configure OpenVPN you can find all the details here on how to do that

You need to either access it via AttackBox, that is on the internal network, or via OpenVPN, which connects you to the internal network.
If you're curious about why it's done this way is because these machines are designed with vulnerabilities.
They should absolutely not be open to the internet as they can, and would be exploited rather quickly 🙂
Keeping them internal guarantees that only those that should have access to them, are accessing them.

because the box has to boot. the box isn't om all the time.
When's the last time you booted any VM, on SSD, HDD, large or small, that took longer than 30 seconds to boot?

The main point is if it's such a big process to boot the VMs, then add a progress bar, instead of a 1 minute timer.
Means unnecessary waiting for the sake of waiting.

you still have to wait for the box to boot up
you would have went mad waiting for dial up if 60 seconds for a box to boot has you geekin like that
By progress bar, I do not literally mean a timer to counts to 100% instead of a timer that counts 60 seconds.

Instead of counting 60 seconds, add a check for if necessary services / tools / networking is setup.

Getting this error all day today: "Oh no, an error occurred while starting VM: We're temporarily at capacity. Please hold tight and try again shortly." Subscribed to get access to faster VMs, but now not getting any VMs. Tried different browsers, etc. Sometimes the machines do get connected, but drop intermittently with all reconnect attempts failing. Suggestions?

THM content is great. Hopefully these VM issues will be fixed. Spending too much time trying to connect/reconnect instead of learning.

I would start from a "naked" browser, fresh from install, for troubleshooting this
for instance, if you use Firefox, but never Chrome, install Chrome and try, or any variation of that (Edge, Brave, Opera, etc.)
maybe some notes where I can find on how to explode a machine how to use nmap and all the others and in what circumstances they should be used
maybe this is what THM is about, and you could start by following THM roadmap at: https://tryhackme.com/hacktivities?tab=roadmap
then maybe check the URL for the images, and see whether that URL is blocked
that idea comes from here by Scrubz: #site-support message

maybe your ISP is causing the issue, hence: do you have the possibility to use a VPN, like ProtonVPN which has a free plan?

You might need to restart your browser after, but it probably would have worked instantly. I would try to view the pages from a different device if possible, to narrow down if it's a network issue or a device issue. If you're not able to test from a different device it's worth a shot to restart router regardless.

it works, perfectly fine when you are working on the attack box, if you keep the attack box idle, it'll eventually stop itself .
and To ssh to the Target Machine , the tasks will provide you with the "username" to ssh in.

hi, im trying to do linux fundementals part 2 and when i load up the hackbox and enter ssh tryhackme@ the ip i have that works then i press yes to allowing connection and then it asks for the password and it doesnt let me type anything in the password box

try refreshing the page sometimes the attackbox deploys but doesnt open and the blue split screen button doesn't show but when you refresh the box will pop up
I haven't seen anyone report this and this is a new error that I have never seen before. Discord is a voluntary role. For support the way to go is either through the chatbot/email. Anyone is always welcome to ping me if they have any issues

searching through these messages, it appears that mods are directing the users to the formal support by THM, which is by email
that may be your option, keeping in mind that, as far as I know, THM support works during office hours (UK time)
it would not hurt however, to post your question in that #pt1 channel, hoping somebody reports on their experience
also, search #sal1 , which is the blue team cert, but having the same process of identification

In the past you were able to contact support and have them restore your streak, not sure if they still do this though. When I was about to lose my streak I just had to complete a room within 24 hours to restore it.

Hi, I don't know where to put this but on THM in room commonattacks, there is very low contrast between the text and the box for the Stuxnet case study on dark mode...
Okay I think I figured out what the problem was, The “Avast Free Antivirus” application kept restricting me from entering the room due to the fact that it detected something suspicious from the room. I stated its claim as false, I believe it will start working soon.
So the problem was on my end.
i redid the room and it gave me a feedback, seems like it's not always guaranteed to show because it rarely does that for me. maybe it's because i use the attack box in a separate tab window?

then I press Backspace key to remove one character at a time
as soon as I delete the first character the "Save Changes" button changes from greyed out to green, as per screenshots

also, the switch from greyed out to green happens maybe in half a second

i download it and its just an empty text file named exploitingad.ovpn
although you are on THM Attackbox, the workaround is to download the VPN file from your access page for the relevant network
for good measure, regenerate the file before downloading it

you should be assigned to a different network instance
if you land on the same network instance (i. e. same IP for the DC), leave again and join after a few minutes

I recently completed my PT1 exam and scored 741/800. I submitted 8/10 correct flags with full attack paths. In the Web section, I identified 4 valid vulnerabilities — I captured flags for 2 of them, and for the other 2 I documented the vulnerabilities properly as per the exam rules. The vulnerabilities do exist, but I was unable to retrieve the flags. I’d like to request a manual review of my submission.
Can anyone please tell me how to contact support other than emailing (since I’ve already sent an email to support@tryhackme.com)? Also, how long does it usually take for them to respond to Email?
the bigger issue to me is that my VMs crash constantly and its really annoying to do any of the rooms

The department that deals with support is small and they deal with a lot of tickets so please be patient with them. They will get back to you soon

It's weird though because according to THM I'm connected...
do not use a GUI, use the openvpn command from a linux terminal
that access page is not always reliable
can you ping 10.10.10.10 over a long time, in order to see whether these timeouts impact the connectivity?

I was previously using Windows, but I'm now starting a Kali VM
with Windows, THM VPN should work if you use openvpn community edition: https://openvpn.net/community/
however it is a bit risky to expose your Windows host to other VPN users, as they could poke at it in dangerous ways

Hello. Is there something wrong with BurpSuite? I have tried using a wordlist to brute force a password from the Juice Shop Module for about 7 hours. The attack the box machine disconnects and I lose all my progress
This is the 4th time it happens
It has become quite annoying at this point
I don't think I will be able to finish my course at this point. Assistance would be appreciated it.

I have not been able to get pass brute forcing the admin password
because Attack the Box just stops working and then it prompts me to reconnect to the server
however. I extend the attack the box VM every hour
so it should not be expiring
to summarize
I run Burpsuite Intruder in order to Brute Force the admin password, I leave the intruder running for about 1:30, I check the VM every 20 min so that it does not close on me, but it does not matter, it still closes on me and prompts me to reconnect to the server, once I try to reconnects it prompts me to open a new instance of Attack the Box which basically erases everything I have done
This has been the cycle for the entire day
