Hello - I am having an issue with logging in to the Target IP Address from the in-browser AttackBox with the tryhackme creds. I'm new to THM but not tech and I've tried everything I can think of but still facing the issue. Is there a gotcha I'm not aware of with THM?

I want to also add that I completed Linux Fundamentals Parts 1-3 last night with no issue. I started the Linux Strength Training room last night without finishing but didn't face this issue. When I tried to pick up where I left off, I ran into this problem and have completely reset everything prior to dropping a message here.

KGB is correct. THM won't change your name on a completion certificate once generated. However, if you do change your name in THM, it will take effect on the subsequent completiom certificates.

You don't need to SSH into it as you will access it via HTTP / HTTPS. However, if you have a separate attack machine you wish to use and want to have an environment similar to the Attackbox, there is an option for you to SSH into the Attackbox.

I’ve been a long-time user and an active promoter of your platform through streaming and social media. I really appreciate the educational content and the opportunity to earn certificates with my real name on them, it adds credibility to my achievements.

However, with the recent update to the dashboard that displays users' real names instead of their nicknames, I had to change my account name to a pseudonym to avoid leaking my real identity during live streams. This creates a discrepancy: my older certificates show my real name, while the newer ones now show a fake name. I understand that you’ve mentioned this is fine, but it does impact the consistency and professional value of the certificates.

To address this, I’d like to suggest implementing a “Streamer Mode” feature. This mode could:

1. Hide the real name on the dashboard and profile while keeping it intact for certificates.

2. Optionally hide challenge flags or sensitive content that could spoil the experience for viewers or violate platform rules.

This would allow users like myself to continue streaming and promoting TryHackMe without compromising privacy, while still maintaining the integrity of certifications.

What do you guys think? It would help when more users would support this idea.

Hey Team, Getting a lot of Instance Terminated issues recently, almost every time I start a new room. Just thought I'd pass it on / check in if there are any issues.
No real abnormal activity, generally do about 1-3 rooms per day, always terminate instances when not in use.

On the Instance Terminated issues, from what I've seen in some chats, they are doing some infrastructure changes probably to support a larger user base, but then again, I'm not privy to those details (one such impact was the recent issue on target VMs not behaving as it should) which @tough aurora would be aware as he reported a couple to Fontaene.

Yep, I’ve reported around 10 boxes with that issue. The real problem isn’t just the instance termination, it’s the lack of proper communication. Telling users it’s “to save costs” doesn’t cut it.

It wouldn’t be such a big deal if the IP address stayed the same after restarting an instance. But as it stands, every time it happens, you have to reconfigure all your payloads, update your /etc/hosts, and adjust your workflow, it becomes a huge interruption.

This of it as a letter,

You've written a 10 page letter, it won't all fit in the same envelope.

So you need to break it up and send it in multiple. Having an MTU 1500 size will seperate it too much, and it will send the envelopes in the wrong order, and some may not even arrive.

By reducing the MTU packet size you're making the letter smaller to fit in less packets.

Ensuring that all packets are sent in order, and they are received.
