Hi, I have a problem with the VPN connection. I download the OpenVPN config pack and import it into my OpenVPN (latest version) on Windows 11. The connection is successful, but in TryHackMe it's still saying I'm disconnected and I'm not able to access or ping 10.10.10.10. Anyone else know what the problem might be?

The problem I originally posted about on May 5th has finally been resolved. Except, I didn't receive any support regarding it. It was probably just resolved with the new site update.
Cannot believe how even though it has been MONTHS, I was told their engineers have been unable to review my issue.
I had to consistently request a follow up and was told there'd been no updates. I'm sorry for the rant but sheesh, this feels like poor professionalism.
I can understand being busy but they couldn't bother with sending an update once a week anyway to tell me I'm still in line or something?
I have never been so disappointed. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to get a discount anyway (part of my original issue) because it's been months since the sale. So now this all feels like a waste of my time 😭

Is there anything I can do? I have asked their support team but I doubt they'll send me a timely response about it, given their track record so far. Any help would be appreciated!

This response really rubbed me the wrong way 😩 I worked in IT for an entire university. I know it's rough and there can be a lot of tickets, but really? How can no one have looked into this issue for 3 months?

[Kali Linux] When I connect via OpenVPN, the access page says that the connection is up and that I'm connected, but when I open a room, the box around "Access Machines" is red. When I type "curl 10.10.10.10/whoami" in the terminal while connected to the VPN, I get the proper output. I used "sudo openvpn name.ovpn" with no errors. I also ran the troubleshooting script, and it crashed on me and told me to ask for help in the discord server or forums lol.
[Mac] I tried connecting through the OpenVPN application, but the connection can't be made.
I followed the instructions in the pinned message for both machines, but still no luck.

Why is openvpn not working anymore? Hey, I use my own Kali Linux VM (with VMWare Workstation Pro). I'm connected with the vpn to EU-VIP-1.
My problem: the website I should visit for this task (https://tryhackme.com/r/room/contentdiscovery, Task 6) don't load, I just see an endless loading spinner in my browser.
Even if I try using curl, I don't get a response.

Apparently the OpenVPN Connect Windows app doesn't like to use the CBC cipher, which THM seems to use. I had to select the "Insecure" security level in advanced settings. It works now.

Hello! I'm going through the Cyber Defense path and one of the rooms is Nessus. It says to register for a free account and then to download it, but not to download it on the THM Attack Box. I see a target machine later on in the room, and the install task says "We will be installing Nessus on a local Kali VM", but I don't see that VM. Does anyone know where I can access that Kali VM?

I'm sorry but what is the point of "Sign in via google" if it throws an error saying my account exists? I know it exists and I'm trying to sign in with Google. It's atleast a year I have had this issue but I brought it up just now. Super annoying

SSO via google creates a whole seperate account. I would imagine your account already has a gmail associated? And therefore won't create a new account that'll be able to sign in via SSO.

For example, if I had a THM account on [e-mail] and then signed up a sign in with google account, it'll create a new account based on my [e-mail], you can't combine SSO with an existing account that isn't already linked to your gmail (I.e. your sign-up gmail). AFAIK

Well, if your thm account uses your gmail, then probably changing it to another email will allow you to create an account via google SSO. But remember, this creates a new account, it doesn't link your existing account to allow sign in via google. This is pretty standard with anything SSO

Yeah that's legitmate. When you are done using them you should terminate them.

Generally even with the attack box, you have 2 machines going.

Even if you use your own VM with OPENVPN you can only have three THM resources running at one time, you should terminate unused instances.

i started holo network, then it crashed while i was in a RDP session. I tried to leave the network, restart it and come back the next day. I rejoined the network and the subnet changed; i regenerated the VPN file (waited 15 minutes and downloaded) but i still have the IP route pointing to the old subnet address

Do any of the VPN servers actually work?

I have tried downloading the config file for all EU and US east coast now and they all fail.

I have no issues connecting to Offsec servers so I know my OpenVPN install is fine.

I have checked and I have 'data-ciphers AES-256-CBC' already.

For anyone else with the same issue I figured it out.

Something is wrong in their generation process.

Follow these steps and it should work.

Go to the access page.

Pick a server ‘eu 3’ worked for me in the end.

Regenerate the certificate, but do not download right away.

Wait 10 minutes and then download the config file that you generated earlier.

It should now work.

No idea what’s wrong with their process that a config file needs to ‘settle’ but that’s something for their backend team.

Hope this works for anyone else.

When troubleshooting it seems lots of people have issues with the VPN for THM and the answer isn’t always the same.

I know it wasn’t just changing server as I rotated multiple times through all servers before letting it settle first.

Trying to use my own KALI VM to be my AttackBox. Some traffic works fine, but some techniques don't work at all, such as hosting web server by Python. Any attempt to retrieve a file starts filling the OpenVPN log with 'read UDPv4 [ENETUNREACH]: Network is unreachable (fd=3,code=101)'. Route looks good, can traceroute both ways, ping both ways, and no firewall on the Kali. Not sure why my transfers are getting blackholed... Also VPN'ed traffic is very slow most times. I've regened my OpenVPN Config and am not sure where else to take it. Thoughts?

I can't even get past room 2 because the URL won't even load. Infinite loading and nothing happens. Tried restarting target machine 3 times, got a new IP. Still broken. /internal URL won't load

/js /css URLs all work but the only url which is broken is /internal which is the one you need to use to pass the room
