If yes, what is the result

Is it your local IP [192.168.x.x] or your actual IP?

If your actual IP, that is perfectly normal, the OpenVPN should be more like a proxy/tunnel, where only some traffic goes over the VPN

You can try to ping the machine IP of the room to test if you have a connection

Are you saying like: https://whatismyipaddress.com/ is show your non THM machine?

Then use a real VPN like NordVPN or ProtonVPN

Sadly no, TryHackMe only supports a Tunnel/proxy connection to there rooms, not a full VPN.

It is always reset to a snapshot and gets deployed the same for everyone.

You can create your own VM or run your own VM and you will not have this issue

On THM website in rooms, literally everytime I press the expand bar my window scrolls all the way to the bottom so I have to scroll up to read the text from the start. Anyone else experienced this and knows how to solve it?

I was not able to reproduce this on my end. Tested in split screen/full screen modes.

Although, I have had similar issues on other rooms, I just refresh the page (the tryhackme one, not the actual machine) and that solves this issue.
Also clearing some cookies and/or using a incognito browserwindows can help a lot with these.

Nothing much apart from the fact that it's easier to navigate. I'd open a target site which is confined to OpenVPN in an incognito window of chrome, switch between tabs easily, etc. I could try it on a Linux VM I have, would that make it more effective? If so, I'll be glad to try it out.

The command-line version has fewer issues based on the problems people complain about here.

If you use the GUI Network Manager for the OpenVPN, it will direct ALL traffic through it, you need to tell it not to do that, as the VPN doesn't change aside from allowing access to the 10.10.***.*** IP's.

If you have enough resources to run a VM, I recommend it (Ubunut, Kali, parrot).
Although you can access websites via your browser right now, many rooms will require you to use specific tools, which will probably already be installed on Kali or Parrot.
It is also safer to connect to the VPN from a VM, rather than your host. And as a bonus, it is a good learning experience. VMs are very commonly used in CyberSec.

Hello, I am having issues accessing all room/machines via openVPN.
On the THM/access page it says I am connected and displays internal virtual IP address. 10.10.10.10 works and shows connected and VPN IP shows same IP as on access webpage.
HOWEVER, in the room webpage (any room) top of the page shows red 'Access Machines', when clicked on shows side panel that states "You are disconnected. To access target machines you need to either: AttackBox or OpenVPN."
When starting a machine in any room. I can ping the machine. But I cannot connect to machine via ssh, or load any web servers.

Updated & upgraded openVPN. Regenerated and redownloaded .ovpn file. Tried different servers for .ovpn file. No luck
Connecting via AttackBox works normally. Once AttackBox is launched, top of the room webpage shows green IP address of the AttackBox.

I think this is probably the best place for this. I'm doing the File Inclusion room and the Remote File Inclusion challenge. I am using an attackbox, I created a php file in a directory and then started a python webserver python3 -m http.server this defaults to port 8000. I tried port 80 but it's in use to connect to the attack box ( I know this because I killed it and got disconnected). I tried putting http://<attackboxip>:8000/hi.php but this didn't work. Am I unable to complete this with an attackbox?

Hi Folks, was working in the Burp Suite basics Room however I seem to be experiencing major issues with site resources. Long hang times (+15~30 seconds) and high RAM usage (almost 1g for the site alone in the firefox task manager and chromium task manager). This is consistent across browsers. This is strict to this room too unfortunately. Is this known? I've attempted on my workplaces business circuit in case it may have been a connection issue for my home internet, however that does not appear to be th e case.

Sometimes your packets sent are too big, and they fragment them.

So they can get broken in transition.

when that happens, you could not be able to ping, websites take forever to load, FTP/SSH etc doesn't ragister.

took the php rev shell, changed ip and port

started nc, get sh shell, ran rev shell and caught it with pwncat-cs
had to do it this way bc pwncat would just hang if I did it directly

(local) pwncat$ escalate -r run

error: no working escalation paths found for root

even when I pivot to the user in the box, rerun the escalate cmd, same result

I'm on firefox and other websites run completely fine

I've also gone through the basic "Firefox uses too much memory or CPU resources" checklist
