Hello, it seems I am not the only one who has the access via OpenVPN issue.

To explain the problem

I have downloaded the OpenVPN configuration file to use on my Kali Linux virtual machine.

Then executing it via the command sudo openvpn /file/to/vpnfile.ovpn, I encountered no problem.

Verifying with the ifconfig command, I do have a virtual IP address

However, it stills shows that I am disconnected

Even though I have deployed a machine afterwards

And pinging it shows no reply.

Even though I changed the OpenVPN configuration file, there is no success to connect.

Hello, if you mean OpenVPN, I can run OpenVPN without problems (+ reduced tun’s MTU size to 1200).

If you mean the nmap room, Scrubz was right, it was a Windows machine and it blocks ICMP ping requests by default. Disabling the ping before access using the -Pn returned a positive reply and I could do the room’s tasks.

Sounds like you need to use the MTU fix. When you're connected to the VPN, run this in another terminal sudo ip link set dev tun0 mtu 1200 and see if it solves it. If 1200 doesn't work, you might need to use other values such as 1100 or 1000

if you want to make this persist (i.e. so that you don't have to run that command every time you connect) you can add tun-mtu 1100 at the linebefore <ca> in your OpenVPN profile. Replace that 1100 value with whatever works for you. It might take a few tries with different values - really depends on your network

hi guys, I started doing ctfs a little while ago, and I'm using wsl with kali linux installed, but I was doing the RootMe room, and I got to the part of uploading a malicious file, so I went and got pentestmonkey php, I realized that I had to change the extension so that a bypass goes down, so I used .php5, and everything was fine, but the site wouldn't load, it would simply reset the page, and it wouldn't upload the file, I tried doing it with other random files and all They worked, but when I tried with pentestmonkey content it would freeze the page, and reset it, regardless of the extension, .txt, .php, .php5. I saw in several write-ups and all of them people did it this way, with the pentestmonkey reverse shell, I don't know why this is happening, can anyone help me?

I cannot get the playground to include the remote file (unless I use the attack box)
I prefer working from my own kali vm
but it seems I cannot make the file accassible over the vpn connection (just hosting with the python http server)
It also doesn't let me include files from outside the network it seems. since when I host the file on a vps I own it doesnt seem to get included either

so far it only works when I host the file from the attackbox. But in future I would like to not be reliant on the attack box to complete rooms

Team I am confused. So I am currently switching from Attackbox to my own kali linux vm. Today I installed burp suit and foxy proxy and found one thm flag! \o/ The problem is: I installed foxy proxy with burp suit credentials so I can now with easy click switch between "disable" to "burpsuit" so far so good. The weird part is: it was disabled the whole time but Burp suit still intercepted it. Isnt that odd? shouldnt it only intercept when interceptor is on AND I set foxy proxy to burpsuit?

I can't connect to the VPN using the configuration file on openvpn connect on windows. It just times out after attempting to connect. logs say something about "client exception in transport_recv: crypto_alg: BF-CBC: bad cipher for data channel use" but the configuration file says that the cipher is AES-256-CBC. I've tried different servers and regenerated the configuration file multiple times. I'm starting openvpn gui as admin each time.

I recently downloaded the latest version of Kali Linux and whenever I am trying to connect to tryhackme using openvpn 2.6.7, I get an IP address and the connection is established or I'd assume as I connect to 10.10.10.10, but it still shows me Acess Machine in red. Please help me identify the issue and resolve because I want to start working on tryhackme again.

Also note, I have made changes to the .ovpn for the cipher and --data-ciphers, both did not work.

It's kinda weird, cause the vpn outputs that the sequence initialization complete and displays the IP address 10.x.x.x
Apart from this when connecting to 10.10.10.10 on my web browser I get the confirmation it is connected to tryhackme network but still able to access any of the machines from the browser

For example, when working on the Splunk labs, when the machine IP address is availabe, I simply enter the address and voila the Splunk environment was supposed to load up

Typing an IP address in your browser is something you would do to access a website, only on the internet you would type the domain, like tryhackme.com.

Was the splunk dashboard running on a specific port? How long did you wait before trying to access it? Sometimes it can take a few minutes after the VM has booted for all of the services to be online.

Great, so generally for a room like this, you would first need to do some enumeration, to discover what's running on that machine. For example, and nmap scan would show a web server running on port 80. But, this is the case for this specific VM, maybe the next room you will do will be completely different. It is crucial to enumerate each machine before trying to access it via the IP address 🙂

Just wanted to report that I got 2 days worth of credit today. I should be at 100 days (flex) but the site says i'm at 101....I actually took a screenshot and posted to twitter for my 100th day and for some wild reason, i'm suddenly at 101? Hello i have a short question. Today I started the Basic Penetration Testing machine everything works fine. After i find the credentials for "j" i tried connect to the ssh Server with the user:password. After typing in the password the ssh connection starts but after a few seconds the connection freezes. Sometimes it works but for an example: if i want to start linpeas it freezes straight ahead after starting. Or if i go to the k directory and try to open the file in this directory it freezes. Is this a problem with my internet connection or openvpn or tryhackme openvpn? I have the regular vpn config no VIP access. Hello, I am new to THM. I test 3 easy box and I get lot of problems in my tries. Box and network seems to be very slow.
For example, the box for "Simple CTF" doesn't respond to ssh connection. I check on a writeup to be sure and everything seems fine. But the box never respond. I get "Connection closed by 10.10.183.248 port 2222"

I get connection closed while the service seems up and open when nmap scan it.

Hello Everyone, I am having trouble with my openvpn configuration. In a nutshell, I created the file, ran it, and in the `Openvpn access details' panel it says that I am connected. However, when I try to access a machine from one of the rooms (ex: NMAP). It says that I am disconnected and the 'Access Machine' section is red in the header. I wonder if it is just the room itself or if I am doing something wrong.

Aahh. It might be a Windows target then, it doesn't really respond to ping requests due to Windows firewall so simply add -Pn in your nmap command.

Hey all. I lost my 2fa account from authenticator app during the process of migrating to a new phone. I have recovery codes and im able to login on the site but i can't for the love of god disable 2fa and re-enable it again in order to set up codes on the new phone. When i click 'disable 2fa' button it asks for a same 2fa code from the auth app i lost. What a stupid oversight.
I had the same problem with HTB site and i just logged in via recovery code also, got to the acc page, clicked the 'disable 2fa' button and it asked for my acc password which i know, of course. I re-enabled 2fa on a new phone in a matter of seconds.
