Hello, I’m getting “safari cannot open the page because it could not establish a secure connection to the server”. I have no other issues with any other pages that I go to on Wifi. I can access THM on LTE. Super weird. I’ve tried other browsers and devices and nothing. Like I said though it doesn’t seem like an issue with my ISP either.

Hi I am not able to verify in discord even though I am a paid THM user and I have a token . My guess is that I have at some point in the past used the token in a different discord "account" - that is i opened discord and it assigned me a random number to append to my actual username. But since I can only attach a single discord account to an email address I have no way to log in to that temporary discord "account" . On the other hand this account is attached to the same email address as my THM account.
I can not change my discord token apparently so i have no way to verify . Can someone help me?

Hi I have not been able to connect to the vpn since Jan. 11th.
I posted a note here on the 12th and followed the suggestions to change servers ; regenerate the config file; try later; etc.

This is what the error on the screen says:

I changed my email address recently on my account but whenever I try to confirm the email address, I don't receive a confirmation email.
I'm not sure if this is a problem with THM or if it's because of my uni's email filter, though normally it would at least alert me if it quarantined an email and the invoice email from THM seemed to get through fine.

I have determined that the issue seems to be that parrot linux is using a newer version of openvpn.
It seems that the new version of openvpn has deprecated the cipher AES-256-CBC

So in order to connect to THM VPN i need to force my client to use the older cipher.
I have achieved this as follows:

openvpn   /home/user/Downloads/nonattributionTHM-US-West-VIP1.ovpn   --data-ciphers  AES-256-CBC 

I pasted the wrong darn line out of my history.
This is the one that actually works:
openvpn --data-ciphers AES-256-CBC --config /home/user/Downloads/nonattributionTHM-US-West-VIP1.ovpn

And @tribal mason is totally correct -it can be added to the config.
I would suggest using multiple data-ciphers ala:
data-ciphers AES-256-CBC:AES-256-GCM:AES-128-GCM:CHACHA20-POLY1305

For whatever reason, if you add options to the openvn command then you must also add the " --config" option before the name of the config file. So if you add the "--data-ciphers" option then you have to add the "--config" option explicitly:

openvpn  --data-ciphers  AES-256-GCM:AES-128-GCM:CHACHA20-POLY1305:AES-256-CBC  --config   /path/to/username.ovpn 

Basically - the openvpn on my parrot linux was upgraded to a new version. So the new version wil NOT do AES-256-CBC unless I force it to. If I run openvpn like this I can connect again:

openvpn --data-ciphers AES-256-CBC --config /path/to/username.ovpn

Or add this to the file generated by THM:

I want to report an issue with OpenVPN bundle. Actually the configuration file only ships with cipher AES-256-CBC but since OpenVPN 2..6.0 (cf. https://github.com/OpenVPN/openvpn/blob/v2.6.0/Changes.rst#overview-of-changes-in-26) --cipher is no longer appended to --data-ciphers. So as a result, either with an old or freshly generated bundle from TryHackMe you end up in a error loop with this message:

2023-01-31 20:59:58 OPTIONS ERROR: failed to negotiate cipher with server.  Add the server's cipher ('AES-256-CBC') to --data-ciphers (currently 'AES-256-GCM:AES-128-GCM:CHACHA20-POLY1305') if you want to connect to this server.

The solution is to append create a data-ciphers array and append AES-256-CBC to it, like that: data-ciphers AES-256-GCM:AES-128-GCM:CHACHA20-POLY1305:AES-256-CBC (and of course remvoe the deprecated and now useless cipher AES-256-CBC).
So TryHackMe openvpn bundle generation script should be updated to be compatible with OpenVPN 2.6.0+.
