More or less,

Mounted horsemen.
Now in the game theres often an issue at early in the match generally people begin to dig in and theres quite a bit of open ground, and it lends toward the progression of the war its self. Where the conflict begun as a bit more of open warfare.

But as the round progresses the match quickly devolves into trench warfare and a mixture of mud, death and fire.

Which a Cavalry role could fit both quite well,

In short in the beginning of the round it could lean as a flanking danger to general infantry and is slowly combatted by engineers, machine gunners and storm troopers.

But as a match progresses they act more akin to mounted infantry. A loose mounted force that can traverse terrain that is diffcult for the motorised units in the game. And is used to flank around defences.

Some ideas for skins/outfits

Men,

Britian/Empire

A small footnote, the Australian Light horse uniform is already in the game, being that of the Aussie light gunner, it just doesn't have the option for the slouch with the EMU plume which is a crying god damned shame.
Other options to look at would be officers riding dress,
The Indian Cavalry Corps, New Zealand Mounted Rifles

Gameplay
Horses should be able to carry one rider, and one person on the back of the horse that can either not attack or at least able to use a small arm. IE officers/Engineers
Horses should have a low health score around 200 atleast able to take atleast limited small arms fire Very limited
But machine gun fire should absloutely instakill a horse with no question, Gas and artilery should be an insta kill.

Cavalry, should not be heavily armored or be at all resistant to barbed wire. Horses should absloutely get entangled in that stuff it shouldn't even be a question. But it should be more so that atleast 9 to 5 cavarly can be played in any match or round with 250 matches offering 10 to 15 to be playable. Offering atleast more classes for people to play as admits a game and cavarly charges could absolutely do a thing. And at least two playstyles should absolutely be offered.
There should be a high accuracy penality whilst shooting and moving, Horses should have a chance to freak the fuck out if something explodes right next to you, and it bucks you.
Different breeds of horse should be a thing, if you die and the horse doesn't any one should have the ability to get on that horsey.

The first being a Mounted Infantry/Mounted Rifleman
Style of gameplay, where your primary is a bolt action rifle/revolver. Where it is incentivized to either fight on the back on the back of your horse. Or to cooperate with your fellow horsemen and to flank around the battle and attack the enemy from behind or atleast a flank. So they are limited in their ability to defend/ attack a point making another point of attack. But on their own cannot take the enemy head on.
But operating in tandem with Infantry and officers allowing an engineer to ride on the back of a horse slightly reducing its speed. But allowing horsemen to work with ones team and offer even greater flanks and a semi all terrain vehicle that slightly struggles with trenches but less so than motor bike.

The second being Lancers

Lancers should be a meme playstyle where you can equip a lance and should be able to kill one man at a time with a lance if you get close enough to use it. HOWEVER, it should take up a primary slot, not a melee slot. With horses already being vulnerable to machine gun fire and barbed wire it could be quite funny to see lancers in the early rounds of matches go on kill streaks. One must be 'aiming' the lance in order to activate having it 'crouched lanced' and one should be moving atleast a galop to use the lance in its fullest regard.

A few other things, with the lance equiped it should absolutely be considered your primary. If you want a rifle you have to pick up a dropped weapon.

The Rush to the Sea (1914) would be EPIC with horses and minimal trenching

But mostly cav lets the class balance happen a bit more along with securing a more so contiguous front for soldiers.

Also to meme.

Cavalry should offer a couple melees, that being primarly swords of any kind, riding with a sword out should have a form of charging animation, where the sword is pointed forward.

Cav should evidently be faster than most forms of transport, horses should have a walk, trot and galloping walking paces, different horse breeds offer different mobility and or benfits.

Horse breeds,

British/ empire

Australian Waler horses are noticeably less loud whilst in a gallop providing an element of stealth. Whilst people aren’t looking, along with a slight health buff. charge at beersheba inspired

Thoroughbred
slight speed buff,

Also a german breed that has more health than the rest of the horses, a french that has a faster pace when crouch lanced. Stuff like that.

And the Turkoman horse has the most agility and or mobility along with endurence.

a lancer with no rifle, dubious sounding lance mechanics (Unlike NW/Warband or BF1)

#

advocating a playstyle based on it being a meme

#

at least from OP+instant machine gun kills

#

that's a no from me

as in one bullet

#

then a rifle should do the same

#

it only makes logical sense

#

if thats the point you are arguing

#

For example,

#

the SMLE and Vickers gun both used the same bullet and catridge.

Also if you add horse bucking

#

I think that would a step into the realism department

hexed perch
#

because war horses were trained with gunfire and shellfire in mind.

#

Holdfast just has the horse get stopped instantly when taking any kind of damage, it sways around a bit too, I think that's a step too far but it could slow down from a gallop still.

hexed perch
#

why not just make x% chance that the horse will buck the player upon spawning or if they ride terribly

#

:p

hexed perch
#

there's a lot of circumstances where a machine gun hits you in-game but doesn't kill.

hexed perch
#

then the player character should still die once it wears off :p

#

It's not like there's a field hospital you can visit in-game

hexed perch
#

why not just add trenchfoot or infections from debris?

#

some of the cosmetics used helmet covers that could cause infections

#

I don't think the devs are going to add cavalry based on the suggestions channel anyways.

#

They probably already throughly thought about it and are either A: not adding it, or B: adding it into the game, it can't be any other way.

hexed perch
#

my justification for this btw

#

nevermind the manuals and training
