SuperGeekMike on YouTube has a pretty great series recapping most of Campaign 1 and lessons you can take from each session for your D&D games; I recommend checking him out
noted, thank you so much!
Happy to help; he’s been a favorite of mine for a while now
thats awesome!
Demiplane is partnered with Derington Press for Daggerheart stuff, I've used it a bunch it's great
I was about to bring that up; it’s a pretty good tool that links to Roll20
Now I am sad, happy but sad. I just finished the last episode of campaign 3 and now completely caught up with critical role
Well, we're on campaign 4 right now. Completely new setting though.
I've made it on episode 50 of campaign 2... like a half way there
C2 lives in my head constantly. I went from there to the Age of Umbra campaign because I really want to learn the mechanic for Daggerheart and DM it.
I am going to start C3 after
I miss Exandria so much and Matt, it's not the same (I like C4 btw as well, just miss Exandria)
Just found out this morning that Matt held a Daggerheart one shot with Ironmouse and others for make a wish 🙂 really nice, the vod is Ironmouse's channel
Yeah I am completely caught up on camapign 4
OH
THE ORC BLOOD
THE DESECRATED BLOOD
FROM THE VINDICTA TEMPLE WITH THE SEEKERS
THE AMPHORA WERE HEMOPHOBIC
THE PAINT IS DESECRATED ORC BLOOD
But like, holy to the orc shaper
Desecrated into something good, like how the barrow became verdant life
Cuz there were feathers found at the blood pool
Peak spurt performance
Lived up to the name
Spurt was the best guest. He came, he saw, he went spurt
That was a jumpscare
I mean
I expected like a bit longer
Spurt became a unit of measurement here.
Man I wish I was still a big CR fan. You all sound like you are having a great time but look watching it live from the start of C2 and everything until the first few arcs of C3 I am burnt out and out of love for it.
That being said, the animated show is absolutely killer.
I mean if you want to get back into it I'd recommend camapign 3, but I can understand how one can get burned out on it
I watched 20 episodes of it, then dropped it. watched like 3 episodes of umbra. will probably watch that
C3 did cause a lot of people to drop it for a variety of reasons (myself included), only coming back for non main campaign stuff
I can't put my finger on it but it felt too diffferent too quickly. I honestly have nothing constructive to say other then my own personal feeling. It's nice knowing I am not the only one
I got a bit farther into it than you, but they just kept rehashing the same conversation every handful of episodes and thats what got me
I feel a lot of the different quality is that they never truly meshed together, they always were a bit abrasive to each other.
I mean like in C1 they were pretty abrasive to one another. They did get along though which is a big difference here.
Also the whole Caleb/Fjord leader debate split the party for a bit.
That's the big thing is that they eventually became a cohesive team. Bell's Hells never really did that
Bell's Hells, right up until the end of the campaign, were still arguing about whether or not they should kill the gods. Which is what the villain wanted to do.
Just the constant "We should do this." "Should we do this?" "We should do this." "Should we do this?" non-stop.
It definitely drove some people off the campaign, because it crossed the line where it stopped being interesting to watch.
I think i stopped watching regularly because of it by like. Episode 50? Ish. And caught a few more episodes until episode 70ish where it was still coming up. Constantly
Just unending. Right up until they're literally doing the villain's plan for themselves and shoving Predathos inside Imogen.
I still also believe that basically they ended up making Exandria's new god kings, because now all the Gods are incarnated on the planet again.
Like, I know the characters aren't aware. But Vecna is on the planet again now. The guy ascended to godhood once. He might be able to figure out how to get around the reincarnation curse, and just go back to being a full god once Predathos is far enough away. Or just we're going to have a bunch of them start experimenting with how much power they're able to release, without breaking their vessels, and reigning as the unstoppable god kings of Exandria.
Yea it was just. Exhausting lmao
and like, the gods werent even that bad. was this really a problem that needed to be solved like that?
C4 seems to have a world where there was a much more compelling reason to kill the gods
I think C4 ironically shows how the Exandrian gods could have been if the divine gate had never existed in the first place
(which yes, does tie into a bunch of stuff)
yeah the exandria gods learned their lesson during the calamity when Aeor started building god killing weapons too
Now all the Champions of the Gods are responsible for their respective domains and planes. Scanlan Shortholt is reigning over the Endless Athenaeum.
C4 is pretty darn good. Unless one of the reasons you fell off CR is the slowly increasing production value. C4 is very serious, there are still some shenanigans and jokes but it is VERY plot focused. I dig it though
I love how serious it gets for long stretches of every episode
yeah, it's very enjoyable so far. Really been invigorated by it after falling off Campaign 3
C4 feels a little slow to me still. But I think that’s largely because of how much smaller the tables are.
definitely; it means they have to play catch up to whichever group is the farthest in the timeline
I thought that Ioun had chosen another champion?
Unless I'm forgetting someone, Scanlan's her only living Champion at this time. lol
I think a big part of this is Brennan Lee's fresh DM'ing style. Not to say Matt is bad in any way because that would be an absurd statement but he's talked openly about the exhaustion of coming up with new things and DM'ing constantly and how excited he was and how much fun he's having with the game again as a player too.
Late asl to the convo my fault just seeing this lol
It literally says on his wiki page and I quote 'Chosen, former champion'
it doesnt say who for whatever reason but yeah, apparently its no more 😭
So it doesn't provide any sort of source for that claim?
Not an episode number where we learn of Ioun's newest champion?
Nicodranas is living up to the hype
The one thing is me being a nerd
For the love of god Travis please max charisma already
Scanlan's championship of Ioun was always temporary, a boon to defeat Vecna, as was Vex's with Pelor. As for potential champion for Ioun, The sphinx couple seem like a solid choice
IIRC, at the end of C3, they were still introducing Vex as the Champion of Pelor, among her other titles. I don't recall them ever saying any of this was temporary.
Do you think we’re going to see a regicide tonight?
I’m curious to see how the schemers salvage this, if they even can. Not just saving Gus, but the Gala for the play and subsequently the play itself
Wait… they shot the Photarch?
Is Tachonis betraying their priestly house ally?
Or is this a double bluff, she’s easily as strong as Lady Cormoray surely she could tank a crossbow bolt
Though… they’re assassins, which means sneak attack on a surprised target… so that’d be risky as hell
OH
ITS NOT A BLUFF
OR SHES AN INSANE RISK TAKER
which seems unlikely to me to this degree
This episode is giving me palpitations
You think Felonious isn’t in on the plot to really sell it?
NO NOT THE BREAK NOW
I'm so glad I get Beacon 😭 Fifty-five points?!
And yeah, I suspect Felonious may not know
THE SISTER?!?!?!?!?!
Ok! Good news, they saved Gus and thwarted a part of the Tachonis plan
Bad news, Grandma Halovar just became The Messiah
And the only reason anyone knew they were going to fake her death is because Murray tried to actually kill her!
Thankfully in an impossible to prove way
Yeah, but also impossible to prove the whole thing was faked, too. Hoo boy 🥲
It is always hilarious when the game mechanics force the DM to admit lying lol
maaaaan that was crazy
So insane to me that that's how Marisha found out that info. Force the DM to confess his sins!
big if true
And it was like the one way the table could have even found out. Like if Murray hadn't tried to use the Portent, the Halovars would have got away with what looked like a legit resurrection and no one would have known
I have no context for any of this recent episode but I’m about to watch the final 2ish hours. Excited to see what the hubbub is about.
Godspeed 8D
GOATED episode
I love how the players just could not stay seated. They were having A LOT of emotions!!
Not gonna lie it was pretty epic but I need some normal dnd action soon
I've been watching campaign 2. I'm at episode 25 so far
I plan to finish it all the way through (hopefully by the end of this year...)
idk if i should skip campaign 3 and go straight for campaign 4
Campaign 4 is an entirely different setting and style of game, so it definitely doesn't require as much prerequisite knowledge for sure
im crying near at the end of episode 25 ):
hopefully Kiri will be present in the future
I originally got into Critical Role through watching The Mighty Nein series
The Convergence is about to begin. Godspeed, everyone
Holy moly, Julian’s mom is fem Tywin Lannister
Good lord the distinction between Soldiers and Schemers is so profound
Ayo me too i rlly enjoyed the tv show im on ep 5 rn
So many different genre shifts XD
do you guys think that after the convergence they will slip into new tables?
They might shuffle around, but the names of the tables will be the same: they already printed merch
yes i hope so
Give me Matt, Ashley, Sam and Liam at one table
thats what i meant by new tables!!
i hope they do, i want laura and whitney together
I'd love to see Azune and Julien interacting more. They have some fun contrasts and comparisons
the goats
I've wondered what a new table split might look like for a while now honestly. I don't know how likely Julien/Vaelus/Wick/Hal is - I feel like there's some groupings which won't change yet - mainly I feel like Wick/Teor/Kat/Tyranny is gonna stick around at least another arc.
Similarly, I don't know how likely any of the Schemers are to leave the city - idk if Hal is ready for that (Maybe give it another arc? I feel like he needs to keep his family and his people safe atm), and Azune, Bolaire and Murray are very well established with the Magpies.
Seekers could be scattered to the winds - I do think Julien will stick with Occtis, as will Vaelus though. Definitely the most scattered of the groups.
Honestly, of everyone, I think Thimble is the most likely to switch tables. On the Schemer front, she's got some lead-in with the Crow Keepers being in collapse, she's been needed a couple times by that group specifically, especially for moving money. That said, I could also see a world where she joins up with Julien to go back to the Golden Orchard. Maybe Thaisha switches too - I think really she's most likely to follow Alogar and make sure he's safe.
I can see Azune needing to leave in a hurry if things go bad with the Einfasens. I'm deeply concerned about that meeting XD;; He's also got entangled with the Halovars, they could be making some impossible demands where the best option is just getting out of Dol-Makjar. Maybe he and Thimble could switch, she stays in the city for a bit, Azune gets reunited with Teor and Kattigan, his Torn Banner companions? Or he goes with the Seekers, which could be fun for his sorcerous background being hinted at as something interesting, or just leaves to find Mayali
(Anyway Harondus you better not hurt my bby boy 😭 )
The thing is Luis really likes the Schemer play style. Where Marisha (who plays Murray) has her cork board where she's connecting everything with red string and her famously intricate notes, Luis (who plays Azune) has his lists and loves political intrigue plots. I'm not sure he would split yet, if just for player enjoyment.
i dont see bolaire leaving dol'makjar anytime soon also
I think the plot could force Azune out but I do feel like it'd be a little to the detriment of the game for now. I really think we aren't likely to see many people switch because their plots haven't come to fruition fully. There's a lot of setup and promises being made with these characters and I really feel like Azune leaving now before the Magpies are fully set up would be a shame. It could 100% happen and I imagine if the conversation went bad enough Brennan could follow through on it, but he just seems like such a good perspective in Dol-Makjar and I feel like he wouldn't work as well in the soldiers or schemers yet
Yeah. He fits in there very well, and he's doing amazingly at actually doing the scheming, I just worry about his safety XD
Do you guys remember the episode where Laudna goes "ca ca ca ca"? I think it's in the fight against Ludinus but I'm not sure.
Might need a little more context than that lol
This channel is for discussion about Critical Role, which is officially supported by D&D Beyond. Please be aware that this channel may contain spoilers. You can watch Critical Role live on https://twitch.tv/criticalrole
Welcome to Critical Role! This is the live home for a bunch of nerdy ass voice actors and all of their debauchery.
I wonder if we gonna see any someone play Luke in c3?
Very very unlikely. I don't think they like drawing in past characters especially not in early game.
I can imagine someone playing luke in a one-shot or sth similar tho
Dang it
that would be amazing and hilarious to watch especially if travis or taliesin played him
It would be fun, but I personally appreciate them telling separate stories devoid of C1 and C2
If they wanna play Luke and Kiri and etc, I’d prefer to see it as a one-shot.
That would be a fun one-shot
I do want to see a Brenotto Summer Camp one-shot
What do we have between now and October again?
I believe they're doing another round of Narrative Telephone
probably some one shots as well
I believe they mentioned Ashley’s one-shot too but idk if that’s scheduled for before or after their C3 announcements.
I think it was before
yes, their website says in September and early October they have
- Ashley's one-shot
- Narrative Telephone
- Mighty Vibes
- Final part of ESO One-Shot
- C3 announcement
- another "colossal" announcement
What's the betting Ashley's one shot is just full of Big Red Buttons?
big red buttons and adorable npcs
Any theories on what Sam's going to play for Season 3? He prefers the odd and ridiculous so I'm curious if he'd play a Goliath Artificer of some subclass or other. Obviously he did already play an Alchemist in season 1 but that was for a very short period.
I've said it before in #general-spoilers, but my prediction: Goliath Nature cleric.
- STR and WIS, two stats he's never really played;
- Goliath is about as far from a Small race as one can get; but perhaps most importantly,
- He gets to mess with Taliesin by playing up the Caduceus parallels
Maybe he plays loxodon too tho. Very big. Very best race
What are some generally bad subclasses? I’m trying to theorize what Laura’s next character is.
She played a pre-TCOE Beast Master Ranger, a Trickery cleric, even a 4E monk, she really has a penchant playing pretty bad classes/subclasses and making it work.
Nature cleric :P
All nature cleric party let’s go
They would finally have a character who actually knows about nature
Kiki knew a little, Cad seemed like he did but didn't know anything
Travis will probably steal that idea
Well no, Travis has to steal Laura's idea, which causes Laura to go for the underpowered playstyle
Such is the order of things
So what is Laura planning right now?
We don't know, but whatever it is, the first idea must be stolen by someone else
Well Travis and Liam have to take Laura's idea first
And Liam has to give Sam a silly idea
All we know is that Laura's acting is gonna be spot on and mind blowing as always
Is anythingn tonight
At this point I’m sure Laura is keeping her character under heavy lock and key lol
Nobody can take her class idea and then abandon it for Paladin levels this time!
Yeah, because she's gonna play a Paladin from the START this time
Damn
this is going to be hilarious big red buttons everywhere
Perhaps literally lol
Nope, they're taking a break. Wasn't sure myself until I saw the email newsletter lol
They deserve it that's for sure
Sam plays whatever Liam picks for him. He literally doesn't pick his own characters. 😄
I’m excited to see who’s names are similar
to be fair, Vex was converted from Pathfinder which I assume the equivalent to BM rangers is better, and trickery cleric was her second pick (first was archfey warlock but travis stole the warlock and she still wanted to be Traveler-related)
I cant believe that I'm almost done with c1 but I'm super excited that I can re-watch all of c2 while I wait for c3
Nice!
Yeah I'm gonna love watching the awkward conversations between Fjord and Jester again
And how bad everyone else wanted Sprinkles to die
Is Ashley’s one shot happening this Thursday?
yes
Time for button pushing
Already an Alien Reference. I like it...
Help Froggie find snek
I thought the CO2 levels in the intro were too high...
It's funny because Travis, maybe outside of Taliesin, is the math genius of the bunch.
Holy crap this is AMAZING
Poor Robbie
There's that good ol Travis scream hahaha
ah ha ha ha ha
A H A H A H A H
this is so cool
Someone's gonna have to stay...
Oh boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Accurate
That was good. I liked it.
i'm floored, tbh
Do we know what game system they used last night? I’m little under halfway thru and it sounds a lot like the Alien TTRPG, but it could just be a heavy sci-fi hack of D&D.
Probably Mothership with some Alien sprinkled in.
ALSO if you missed it in the CR newsletter, they are playing a homebrewed system crafted by @KyleShire that contains elements pulled from Mothership by Tuesday Knight Games and Alien RPG by Free League. 🌟

Thanks!
My biggest disappointment was that there was no custom mini for the Meanomorph. In fact, I would probably say that was my only disappointment.
So they brought the statue of liberty with them and that was the giant copper lady, correct? Did Ashley say at the beginning that they brought the statue? Also, do we know why everyone exploded when they landed, or was it just because that was how it was bound to end? I just finished it today and my questions are unending but also of a finite amount.
It's a planet of the apes reference. They were in space a looong time. They landed on real earth.
- I at least got the impression that this was our Earth, and it had been left behind for a long time, but I could be wrong
- none of the crew except Dr Wiser landed. After he left, they exploded the ship in order to kill off the creatures, to prevent them from killing others and ruining the safety of the new planet
Makes you wonder if Mother lied to them about how long they were in the cryochambers. Thanks for the answers.
I am almost certain she did
and all to eradicate humans? it's very confusing.
What? It's all about saving humanity as earth became inhospitable
I'm confused about were the monster came from
and why did the Ark explode after landing?
Mother was created to lead them to a new planet that can be made or already is hospitable to humans.
What Mother didn't tell them was that the planet she found was just earth in the future.
The monster just so happened to be there at the wrong time at the wrong place, probably attracted by oxygen it feeds on
Did I miss something? I didn't notice the ark exploding, but I also am very inattentive
The shuttle exploded after the ark was docked off
Because they wanted to make sure the monster(s) would be dead
the ark (with all of "cargo") exploded right after hitting the surface of the planet, leaving the doctor the only human alive.
Oh that sucks. I'd say that's either another movie reference or just bad luck or sth
perhaps it was meant to give us the moment of silence as the doctor steps out of the escape pod
showing the uselessness of all their efforts
a sad ending to be sure but it makes sense
I just checked the transcript. Just the ship explodes. Not the ark
Yay
The Doctor was just the first one to see the planet and experience that last moment of silence where the session ended.
Well the doctor is the only one who survived until the "cargo" gets revitalised
which should happen automatically but ya
Oh ok. I see
Agreed
Has critical role announced anything else or is it just campaign 3
there's an agenda that goes through till October, the final thing being the announce of campaign 3. so tehnically campain 3 has not been anounced yet
Le gasp
Omg im crying right now

oh damn i wonder if they're gonna do a halloween episode when it'll be like, episode 1 or 2
I think they’ll do a Halloween one-shot
will the state of role live stream be on youtube D:
I don't know
yes, the SOTR stream will be available on youtube right after they finish broadcasting it on twitch, the Tweets state this as well:
The VOD will be available immediately on YouTube following the broadcast. See you there! 💖
I cant wait for this
I'm super excited
I started watching critical role relatively recently and am more than halfway done campaign one. I can't wait to be able to watch the new campaign live!!!!
Does Wildemount connect to the feywild?
I mean there probably are some portals somewhere
But they haven’t traveled to the feywild in Wildemount
Not that I know of no.
They did encounter a hag, which suggests that there's at least a few spots
There’s a whole archfey plot in C2
So it doesn’t completely connect, but yeah. There’s definitely Feywild shenanigans in Wildemount.
12 HOURS!!!
Today's the day!
<@&880952804070551603> In case people aren't aware, the Campaign 3 State of the Role stream will be starting in <t:1633017621:R> at <t:1633017621:t>
HYPE

Oh yeah thank you
Still gotta finish Campaign 2 but tjmr to multitask everything
pog
When ur at work
WOOT WOOT!!
How did you make it time zone appropriate?
Discord supports epoch code to local timezone conversion
Where's the manual for that, please? Never mind. Found it.
but it got spoiled yesterday, im not saying what it is but hyped is a word
Yeah, while this channel allows spoilers, it's generally spoilers for things that have happened, rather than say leaks or spoilers for upcoming things
There's a new campaign coming?
yes
why is it in 2 hours? i have work! also that would make it either 9am or 8am for them
And one of the Exandria Unlimited characters was from the Feywild
Fancy trick with the time showing up appropriate to time zone .... Or is it not and I am le dumb
It's a discord feature
Right now it says “in in a hour” for me
I think the minimum it does is increments of 1 hour
No, it says “in in 35 minutes”
i normally listen to crit role as a podcast, where is it streamed normally?
They also stream on yt nowadays but yt vods only release the Monday after
5 minutes
oh I'm so excited
IT'S HAPPENING
YES A COUCH
Pre-recording; I am completely fine with this. Responsible and compasionnate
yes.
They'll be taking the last Thursday off from C3, but they'll still be broadcasting
@worn violet Campaign 3 early 2022, brand new set, behind the scenes coming in a few weeks
Oh, new DM screen and it's beeeg
THEY'LL BE at a proper table aGain
<@&880952804070551603> C3 - Episode 1 - October 21st 2021. Some cinemas in the US will be showing the first episode. The campaign will be pre-recorded, and aired every Thursday except the last Thursday of the month
YES
A happy belated birthday to meee
Kinda of a bummer no more art reel :/
CANT WAIT
Hypeeee
some cinemas?
Where do i find the link?
That was a bit underwhelming
was that the entire thing?
Yeah I loved the art reel.
So ... 8 minutes
Yep, select Cinemark cinemas will be showing the first episodes
I was some very good info tho
What is the point of no art reel tho
They kinda dropped that info a little bit early lol
Thats sad
whos cinemark
They better replace art reel with something
where they at ;~;
I'm sure they will
Probably related to their fanart policy
There's probably some practical reason, such as cutting down lead in time and break length due to being pre-recorded
I guess
I imagine they'll have a preroll of official art that they own the IP to
They have said they'll still be having a regular art gallery on the site
probably going to replace it with what they did for EXU with the fancy art
like what EXU had
Really hope no one actually made it a point to just stay up for that.
Wdym stay up lol
Where is the link to watch??
Its noon for me
My bf did
Airing in cinemas is v interesting
Go to youtube
I forget did they pre record a lot last campaign?
Yes
C2 was almost entirely pre-recorded.
basically everything from episode...100(?) onward
Everything after their COVID19 hiatus was pre-recorded iirc
They pre recorded almost all of C2, started after covid started
Mostly post COVID tho right
the practical reason was changes to their copywrite policy
I'm going to miss the live give aeays
That's makes sense
same
Im glad its prerecorded
what changed
Less technical errors
prerecorded literally exclusively makes the show better tbh
Im excited avout the one table!
1 thing that I was pleased to see was the table. Like, the distance set up was neat... but I miss when they could just poke eachother in the face for fun.
I think pre-recorded is especially good considering they can actually time out their breaks instead of feeling like they need to rush back to their seats to go live again
We can see them interact with each other
but sam isnt gonna freak out about the twitch chat saying
Hyyyyype!
oh they're going back to one table?
Bryan is leaving??
Honestly always just watched on YT anyway, more controlled
Hopefully mica
Brian has left
He left, I think
Bryan left
He already left
Brian has been doing his own thing for a while
A while ago
Brian left CR like a month+ ago
I never watched CR nor have I had the time. But now with a fresh slate of characters. I should be able to catch up
yeah he hasn't been part of CR for a minute now
Damn never much paid attention to the other stuff
Im excited to see the new bunch of characters
Briyana is still a ginger tho so thats good
They're also doing an exandria deep dive so you can get up to speed on the setting
And am also excited for marquet
mica would be my choice as well
So, we're kicking things off in Marquet. Nice
yeah marquet is going to be awesome
i hope we can see old caleb with essek in campaign 3
Ooo or aabria
I'm glad that's where they are doing this one
I want to see old Percy tbh
Has that been confirmed?
And its sounding like they are gonna switch out some of the voice actors too
Sweet
Has what
That it'll be starting in Marquet?
Yes
Yes
better yet co host it have all the chaos
it's in Marquet, confirmed
They just stated that lol
Oh, lemme guess, they came back?
Easy to miss
They said dont be sad when some of your favorite story tellers arent there
which maybe means Traveler's Guide to Marquet either as a D&D product or CR product
Or was I too busy relaying info here 😛
So im excited to see if they include robbie and aimee and aabria
If I had to guess...
from the Mighty Vibes
Or maybe even ang
They are probably going to have something of a larger rotating cast
Which i love
Advertisements 😢 idk.
They'll still be putting art on the site
Not dissimilar to how Ashley used to hop in and out of play, but this time it will likely be intended
That's my guess at least
There’s still going to be 4 shows a month. Just now 1 of them is not strictly CR
Party name: Marquet Five
Could be EXU or something else
Give chance for the new members of CR to join in more
Ashley will finally be here for a full campaign (hopefully)
Most of Campaign 2 was filled with Dwarvenite ads anyway
While also still seeing the originals
Dwarvenite?
DwarvenForge
ashley blind spot something stay
Dwarven Forge stuff
Dwarvenforge
Yeah, was gonna say
Im glad they will be taking some time off
@gloomy sluice Joke about ads for Dwarenforge
dwarvenite is the indestructible material used exclusively by Dwarven Forge
Fair, I skipped the adds because I watched the VoD
Yup myself too
Arts always been on the site iirc. It's more convenient to have in the show. But I get it. It's no big deal.
they have a tight vertical monopoly on the extraction of dwarvenite
But yea not particularly worried about the "not full cast" thing
Due to this one being planned as pre recorded from the start
Who's missing you think?
lol love that game
It gives them potential to do a rotating cast significantly easier
Maybe Ashley?
I expect a lot of film and TV stuff is aggressively starting to spin back up again
They better not dump Sam
Man if they do a two party campaign that would be kinda tight but I doubt it
They're not going to be dumping anyone
It won't be like C2 where they had to cancel guest characters
If anyone isn't there, it'll be because the player has other commitments/priorities
Like I said before, I expect it will be a rotating cast. Not necessarily two parties
It would likely be run narratively similar to how Pike and Yashas were both parts of their respective groups
Sam is nearly half the reason I watch.
When did they say it wouldn't be a full cast? They said it was all 8 of them. Who is missing?
yeah I missed that part as well
I think it'll be the original cast but whenever someone can't show up they'll bring in someone so that there's always a full table
This
that is part of the reason they are sticking with pre recording cause it will be easier on the cast
ah gotcha
to balance things
Yea, for when they just need a break for whatever reason.
and nobody will have to run the character on ghost mode
Marquet West March let’s goooo
With how large CR has gotten (eg: EXU cast), pre recording is just better. And that's not even getting into how long the games are and how pre recording is better for their health
https://critrole.com/icymi-campaign-3-premieres-october-21st-state-of-the-role-updates/ Bit of a longer form update
they aren't up stupidly late anymore and with Laura and Travis having a munchkin that probably gives them more time to sleep
theyre playing munchkin?
Yes
The benefits of the toddler stage. More sleep lol
campaign takes place between exu and 2
How?
that article states it
It begins after ExU
cancel the show i want old Caleb kissing essek on the face
wha
I'm sure they'll be a one shot that brings back the nein
damn it now i gotta watch ExU
Not rly
Maybe? We kinda had to pay for that one shot. lol
my mistake i thought exu was before 2
Also
This campaign, while still featuring the same elements you know and love, including our lovely original cast, will be a bit different than previous campaigns in ways you’ll see as the story unfolds…. Mysterious… BUT AWESOME!
This is the bit i think means rotating cast
Similar to how Ashley used to be, but intentional
i dun want it
I just think that might get very clunky with characters being able to progress their stories. Which was a thing Ashley mentioned several times, with how Pike and Yasha didn't get to do much since she wasn't there.
I do want it cause I want more of the EXU cast regularly
Yea, but that's the key difference with what I'm saying
This would be intentional, rather than forced
EXU I could honestly see being the thursday break show.
the more story tellers bit makes me think matt will swap with someone for a arc or something
Aabria and Matt for sure
They're just taking a thursday of the month to do whatever they want. So that'd be the ideal spot to slot in EXU when they can.
This is fair. Lol. I'd start episode 1 of exu and if you like it watch it...if not read a summary. Not too much happened.
There was a fantastic pagent though.
The biggest thing for EXU was how they ||might've undone some of the Divine Gate||
I personally didn't like it that much
matt as a player was pretty great
did the goat win
Also, we've now established the twins were texan. lol
yehaw
lol thank you Matt for clarofying
Had nothing happened in Byroaden, Vex and Vax woulda been twanging all the time.
Unfortunately dad turned them british. lol
I wonder how much concern was raised by the short announcement to warrant that clarification.
wgat did matthew say
Ahahahaha
The full cast would be present and he would still be GM
rotating guests maybe
woohoo
Lol. It’s so difficult to be cagey to build hype. The internet is obviously gonna panic and make zillions of assumptions 😂
Reddit was probably having a meltdown.
Rotating guests and just acknowledgment that people got life stuff, like Laura and Travis kid I imagine.
I'm hoping for another perkins appearance on par with spurt
Maybe they’ll pull off the Matt Colville type of cameo they planned in C2
Was a bit surprised they were able to show up all the time honestly
bonk the halfling
hahaha yes!
they can also make an 8 hr work day into 2 episodes.... have more cohesion ep to ep and a better strory because of it
i just hope we get to see "session 0" this time... it ruined so much for me and the wife in both c2 and ExU
also a wheaton appearance so I can feel better that I dont roll not even close to his level of 1s lol
less of "what happened last time"
just hope they dont turn it into their 8-5 cuz then they would get more burnt out faster. but then d0 the months episides in the first week and then more time to give oother content
I think they reserve their session zero for figuring out how to portray their characters
I wouldn't expect to see session 0 ever, since that's their experimental stage where they can toss things in and out
Like how Jester straight up died lol
Session 0 would be very cool, but doesn-t feel likely as they seem to prefer an introduction via gameplay, like a living story.
atleast a recap then, because i was confused as all in ExU, and in C2 i remember being confused but it got slowly explained (i think?)
C2 mentioned some of session 0 once or twice.
yea the big snake etc
And that's all we need. We don't need to have a moment where a character dies on screen, and then Matt goes "Ok, so maybe you want to switch up your spells."
I’m sure they also use that time to land on their character voice or how they interact with other PCs
I kinda hope we have a bit more horror this time around, early stages anyway.
I'm hoping for an all cleric team
Also Matt split the group into smaller groups for the first session (i.e. the one before the stream started) in C2 so it was actually multiple independent sessions being ran
Poor Travis
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they even had a wholesale cast swap on certain episodes, so you essentially have two stories working in tandem
oh god i hope not
Body Horror was awesome last time "I cast Meteor Swarm!"
Yea, it was Travis/Laura/Marisha, Liam/Sam, and Ashley/Taliesin
I wonder if it's a repeat of campaign 2 because Laura is pregnant again
She is?
Would be pretty fitting
I have no idea just saying it would be perfect
Yeah and with a repeat of that (If it goes the same way) we'd have what, a month before the full group meets up for the first time?
Um, she hasn’t said anything about that. And it’s not exactly our business. Lol
It's not but I think it would be amazing none the less
No, but it would probably be unsurprising to see it get announced on Twitter
then maybe word it differently than last time xD i think like 10 of us started googling when you said it
I'm one of those 10 lol
I would kind of love to see Matt pull that off
was really confused for a minute
I think he could do it.... Then bring them in together at certain points
It's a bit of a trend in other D&D circles
i don't like the idea of 2 parties... the same way i hate series that follow 2 stories.. i want to know about 1, and then maybe the other later. But stopping me in the middle of a scenario to "check on the others" is the worst things shows do to me xD
BrettUltimus runs a shared world with like, 5+ campaigns
2 parties is confusing and hard to follow
yea
Depends on how they did it
Yeah, I wouldn't want 2 parties either.
It could be or be pretty straight forward depending on the story
Hard to say until we saw it
no way, i can not see any way that works out
I could see a lot of ways
i'd be happy to eat my words if they do it and it works however
Fair
Dunno, if it doesn't work out I can always change up my schedules for Mondays
But we are all in agreement for a party full of clerics right?
yes
i doubt it, i don't even think it'd be that fun
the radius
Lol
I'm unsure what new character class or race I'd be interested in seeing. War Forged?
im kinda hoping Travis plays a half caster, like ranger or artificer xD
warforged is 100% gonna be there
i hope sam plays a big guy and uses shot glasses for his drinks (and have a multitude offscreen so he doesnt dry out)
Artagans reveal last season was amazeballz. "I have no idea what I'm doing."
imagine if Sam went changeling tho
tiny changeling?
I'd also like to see a full time Artificer this time around.
It's one of my least favorite classes for a PC (feels very NPC to me) so I'd be curious to see them pull it off.
My guesses
Liam: Ranger
Marsha: Wizard
Travis: Cleric
Taliesin: Warlock
Sam: Barbarian
Laura: Druid
Ashley: Fighter
Matt: DM
Armored would be interesting to me. I see the Battle Smith as being the most capable so surprise me
confirmed?
o
Marisha as a Wizard would be cool
taliesin's already a warlock irl this is escapist fantasy
Sam Barbarian is my underdog pick
Sam would be a fun barbarian.
Dunno about Taliesin as a Warlock. Blood Hunter was basically a lesser Hexblade imo
blood hunter has a warlock subclass
And he wants damage this time me thinks lol
Wait!!! FIGHTER!! The one class we haven't seen them play, right??
what
Lol.
percy
Ahhh Gunslinger didn't feel very fighterish that way to me
It just didn't
Yeah he played it very martial artificer.
gun
I want one of them to play a fairy and another a rabbit folk lol
Sam could play a fairy
Any rabbit folk and I am out.
🗞️
No you're in. There's no turning around.
Grrr
What were the races for EXU?
Satyr, air genasi, fire genasi, halfling, dwarf and human
That fire genasai stole my heart.
I bet Taliesin goes Warforged
ahhh, dwarf maybe feels like a new one for the official cast. Dwarf, Artificer, and Warforged.
Would be cool to see someone take a lineage too
We probably won't see a dragonborn sorcerer.
LOL
why not
Or a Tiefling to be fair
explain
@crude herald Orion
explain
Uh...bad history with a old cast member.
Originally there were 8 full time cast members, from the pre stream to episode ..
28?
they basically killed off most/all of the dragonborns in the setting lol
To be fair, Tiberius is very unlikely to have been the only dragonborn sorcerer in the world of Exandria.
That’s like saying nobody else can play a mountain dwarf cleric because of “this one person I played with”
I can live with no more Dragonborn. Very unpopular race anyway
only seen 2 really since? 1 in c1 after everything happened (broomgate) and then 1 c2 hiding at the party?
Maybe in your game, but I still see a lot of people play dragonborn.
I hear of few Dragonborn around
Even Wildemount still has plenty of dragonborn stomping around
They just lost their home kingdom
also matts book has sexy dragonborn
Go on...
tails
Matt please let us have gem dragonborn
wide, too
shrugs Well, it's all speculation until October 26th anyway
I'd still be curious to see a Dwarf, War Forged, Artificer, and official sub class Fighter.
Who do people feel would be the most likely to play a War Forged?
i would have loved to see the original concept for Jester. a fey warlock (probably tome?) not gonna happen but would have been nice
Idk really...but Sam comes to mind and so does Taliesen.
I haven't finished CR Campaign 2 yet but were there warforged in that?
whats the next smallest race? sam will probably go with that tbj
Smallest race is kobolds
hes already gone gnome goblin and halfling
Fairy.
kobold barbarian. calling it now
o_o
There was a city called Aeor of ancient and advanced Tech that likely will serve as their birth place. We basically saw one there as an NPC (Charlie / Devexian)
oh cool.
Appears in the YT episode called The Streets of the Forgotten if you want to see more.
I will. I'm on like episode 80 right now.
One thing I kinda dislike from prior Campaigns was their live shows, always made it harder for me to follow along.
wont have to worry about that for a while lol
Maybe they're done with that considering
i listen on podcast generally, but when a live show popped up i would watch just the first bit to see the entrances
The only live show that really bothered me was the one where the mics kept cutting to silence
^^
Yeah
Thank goodness for the subtitles
When does the animated series come out?
lol
I don't mind waiting. I'm just curious.
Google says Oct 2021 but I think that's old.
Hey how we feeling about that state of the role tonight!?
👍
Episode one is October 21st
Do we know the setting or any details besides DM/cast/start-date?
@tropic birch Marquet is the setting start point
Ty
My guesses
Liam: Swarm Ranger
Marsha: Divination or Bladesinger Wizard
Travis: Cleric Order Domain
Taliesin: Warlock Genie
Sam: Barbarian Wild Magic
Laura: Druid Star Circle
Ashley: Fighter Champion
Or echo Knight for Ashley
Pretty interesting that the release of Fizban’s and the Marquet campaign is so close when you remember that Matt one time said Marquet has ties to the origins of dragons
Maybe we get to see some more of J’Mon Sa Ord too
J'mon and slam
swarm rangers are awesome id love to see that especially with tashas update
if you wanna jam!
One thing they said haunts me. "Throw all expectations out the window." I just hope they'll still play D&D.
They're still playing D&D, that much is certain
They've got the Tal'Dorei Reborn book coming out soon
I think maybe it means something more along the lines of Matt maybe trying new story telling mechanics or styles
or a rotating party
I’d welcome it if they decided to play something different too tbh
that is most likely going to remain a one shot only thing
I think that'd alienate a lot of people and is very unlikely
And yeah, that's kinda what the one shots are about
I think if they were going to switch systems, they'd have done it for ExU to gauge response
I assume they will switch to 5.5 when that comes out (should that actually be what the next "evolution of Dungeons and Dragons" will be that will come out in 2024(? irc))
I know I'd stop watching if they moved away from fifth edition D&D, it's the familiarity that helps me enjoy the story
@hazy kindle we don't even know if what's coming in '24 is something that requires "switching"
based on what we do know its not a switch
From what's been said, it doesn't sound like it
yeah
because its all backwards compatible
Yeah
And we have already seen parts of the stuff coming in the newest adventure
How long was C2?
that's true. which it would be a .5 right?
like 3 years or so I think
Because I would expect C3 to be over before '24
C2 started Jan 2018
So little under three and a half years
so if C3 is just as long it would end somewhere around early 2025
So yeah, they'll likely either be done or so close to the end that there'd be no point "switching" even if switching is a thing for whatever is coming
that's true
On the enemies front, personally hoping for either Mind Flayers, and/or a more Abyssal / Hellish influence. Others?
I don't mind anything I hope for loxodon pc or important npc so that there will be a spike of character art of the best dnd race
Exu has that at least
They could even do a new subclass from the book
The Reborn book that is
Yeah, that'd be on point actually
That comes out after it starts right? Would be a good preview
Unless Taliesin throws us for a loop and plays just a warlock
Just watched it. Travis looks like he's mainlining caffeine to stay awake. A feeling I know all too well. 😄
Finally watched the announcement video. Wonder how Taliesin's gonna try to break the game this time. 😛
Also Marquet sounds interesting from what's been said in sourcebooks so far.
I'm super freaking hyped for this!
I'm really excited for Marquet! I also think it's a dangerous and bold choice, because there's a greater than zero chance some of the characterizations (from a prolonged campaign) might rile up some real life culture groups. I'm sure it will be handled with care and respect, and made exceptionally clear that this is fiction and not meant to represent any specific RL culture. But I also know there will be fire either way.
Who’s going to play a warforged?
I hope Tal play the echo knight! Considering the mechanics of the subclass there might be some cool RP to break the game :p
i think they may have aubrie running the game some time by what matt said
aubrey plaza DM
that would actually be fantastic
I was having a super crummy day today, and then I met Johan: the unionizing-cat chef from episode 118 "The Tortoise and the Dare," and everything turned around.
I am still back on Episode 87, but I look forward to this
Is anyone else that's currently catching up feeling a bit stressed now that C3 has been announced? I know there's no reason to have to have finished C2 first, but I really wanted to
Why stressed?
i was binge watching c2 to catch up finished like a week ago 3 to 4 episode a day everyday
I don't know! It's a really silly thing to feel stressed about XD
I was doing really well at catching up over the summer, then I went back to work at the end of August (I work in a high school) and since then it's been hard to get through more than one or two episodes a week
play them in the back ground or download them to your play list
I usually watch these things during work. An actual play show doesn't take a lot of attention.
very true i was watching them while writing and our playing a video game just as my background noise
still enjoying them laughing at sam and laura
lol got botted for talking about the travllers icon
I might switch to the podcast for being out and about
and having to delete that word from what i was writing
Lol oh dear
Episode 86 was so good, very long combat, but it has the moment Cadeceus uses that Dispell on Yasha
laughing to sam and laura makes the day go by faster
i cant wait to see the maps that matt and aabria come up with for the combat situations
Aabria isn’t part of C3 as far as I know?
Yes?
what are your campaign three character predictions?
I would be utter shocked if Tal or Liam don’t pull something out of Van Richten’s
One of those two is going to be a Reborn/Dhampir/Hexblood/Spirits bard/Undead warlock
Hoping someone goes for Aeormaton/Warforged and plays it totally deadpan.
Tal seems like he would like hexblood
He was a big fan of his colorful bois in campaign 2
I was expecting a warforged in EXU, so I must applaud the self control, but someone has to play one this time
Liam is going to go for a goth bisexual type, call it a hunch.
Hmm. Warforged would be interesting for him
"Daring today aren't we?"
Someone is probably going to be on the ace spectrum
Maybe
My guess is that’s it’s gonna be Sam or Tal
Caduceus was last campaign 🙂. It'll be great to see another one us
laura playing an ace character could be funny to see
Honestly any of them playing an Ace character would be great
But we all know liams gonna play another bi-sexual
I think the biggest change up would be if one of them played a paladin from the start. Talk about a shock!
lmao
And Keyleth was demisexual
Oh I didn't know that! That makes a lot of sense though looking back
Ace is asexual
So they give their characters sexualities? What for?
Identity, representation, character romancing, a variety of reasons
They get pretty deep in their backstories and character creation
History shows that usually by the end of the campaign the majority of the PCs are romantically involved with another, whether it's an NPC or a fellow party member
Yep. It’s just something they like at their games, and many of their fans enjoy too.
Oh ok, thanks for explaining. I might start watching critical role
Also something best explored when everyone at the table trusts each other, which is pretty evident
How long is the NYCC panel going to be?
It's scheduled for an hour.
sweet
New trailer dropped
Critters!! You’ve been waiting, and now it’s time. Here’s your first peek at the opening credits for The Legend of Vox Machina! Tell us your favorite character in the comments below.
Premiering February 4 2022 on Prime Video.
The Legend of Vox Machina is an adult animated fantasy-adventure series that follows Vox Machina, a band of misfits wit...
More specifically, the title sequence
Something funny I saw. There are just over the amount of days between now and release that there are episodes of C1. If you were looking for a reason to catchup/rewatch
not being a fan of the show's art style but still wanting to know about campaign 1's story and characters, I'll still check it I'm sure though
Could the characters on the cover be the character they will play in C3?
Very very unlikely
Do we know more about what the Netherdeep is?
Far realm plus deep ocean is all we know
Theory: Uk’otoa BBEG
I don't think it's ever been mentioned in stream
The DDB announcement says something regarding new “rival NPCs”. I take it that’s them.
I wonder if we will get stuff about that pre-goblinoid race
The drassinar or something like that
Yeah seeing some dranassar would be cool
At least one more from the one mentioned in EGtW
Kinda interesting to me that they’re starting the adventure at level 3.
I bet they suggest starting with the Xhorhas starter adventure in EGtW and shifting directly from there.
That seems to be a good guess.
Anybody else wonder whose kid that blue skinned person with orcish features on the Netherdeep cover is? 🤔
Lol
i have no clue at all who that could possibly be
Take a deep lore dive into the history of how Exandria came to be, from the Founding, to the Calamity, to the Age of Arcanum, and beyond -- narrated by Exandria's architect and our very own Game Master Matthew Mercer.
Join us for the premiere of Critical Role Campaign 3 on Thursday, October 21st at 7pm Pacific on http://twitch.tv/criticalrole a...
So much pretty art
A lot of exiting things are happening and we have dates for all of them!
I'm feeling a bit flu-ey so in preparation for C3 I'm eating chicken soup and watching my favourite episodes of C1.
almost only 4 days left!!!
I am in love with this, I could fall asleep to matt going deep into lore
A little into blurb from Mercer: https://critrole.com/a-warm-welcome-to-marquet-and-campaign-3/?fbclid=IwAR0hJnsZfrymGVB93oLmtbKqN8f_7WmOim-uzokZTXXbbe9MjAa1kssrLNw
Is that a small fraction of Laura’s dice?
Every character has their subclass by that point
2 days!
cute !
I mean they usually start campaigns at lvl 2 so for adventures it makes sense
This is gonna be nuts
I'm so excited for this and I got lucky enough to have thursday off work this is gonna be so good
I cant contain my excitement aaaaah
See how the set for Critical Role Campaign 3 went from concept to reality in this behind-the-scenes video! Special thanks to Shaun Ellis, Holly Hodges, and the team at Flip This Bitch for helping us realize this long brewing dream.
Campaign 3 premieres Thursday, October 21st at 7pm Pacific on http://twitch.tv/criticalrole and http://youtube.com...
😄 The Tavern of Tales, nice
The set is SO beautiful!!!
Soon, we get to see it in action
I knowwww its killing meeee and I have Wednesday and Thursday off so its gonna feel like forever
I imagine the effect will be super subtle, but super atmospheric.
I’m really curious to see how it translates to the show.
It looks awesome for the cast.
Idk how it’ll look on our end yet.
Hell yea
One more day til! Aaaaaah
As long as they love it thats all i care about
soon
one more day
I remember how they all reacted when Matt used a lightning flash. Now they can have lightning, rain, sandstorms, fog, day/night cycles, possibly going so far as to project location stuff, too (so cave walls, tavern interiors, etc.). They could even (but I super highly doubt they will) do stuff like have a bustling marketplace in the background.
I just hope they don't overdo it.
I just remembered every critical role kinda main series group has a vestige including exu
Yeah, I think it’s kinda become sort of a staple of CR games
Or at least of the setting
I guess
Im excited to see how marquet goes
I know little about marquet cuz we have only seen the deserts but matt said theres more
Well, we’ll find out in little over 24hrs
And we’ve seen more than the desert. We’ve seen a beach too.
VM vacationed there, and Vex and Percy got married there
Ohhhh so that’s where dalen is ahaha
Break out the thursday gifs!
Wtf
About 13 hours left
Tfw you’re gonna be mid-session when stream starts
This is taking Sam's "cast's silly faces on his shirt" gag to a whole new level...
I can't wait to see what nonsense Sam gets up to
I’m sure he has something equally, if not more absurd in the works
Sam Riegel is not the type to settle for “good/funny enough”
Given that they're now prerecorded, there is a smorgasbord of shenanigans
He’s probably spent his portion of the break balancing work for the animated series, character creation, and bits material.
what do you think their classes and races will be
Laura has a pattern of going for classes that on paper arent the best
I've been saying it for months, and I'm sure it's wrong, but my prediction for Sam is goliath Nature cleric. Gets to play two stats he's never really played (WIS and STR), goliath is just about the exact opposite of a Small race, and (most importantly) he gets to mess with Taliesin again via the Caduceus parallels (tall cleric with affinity for nature). Plus maybe some Laura/healing jokes while he's at it
I too think he'll play a biig species this time
But she did play a trickery cleric, the second worst cleric
Something people have to remember for Sam: he didn't choose his race class combo
Still Liam might make him play a lorge species this time
Yeah, between Beast Master ranger, 4E monk, and Trickery cleric
She’s 3/3 on subpar mechanics
But she still has fun and breathes life into all her characters, so I’m excited to see what she does next.
She also has a pattern of not getting the class she wanted so she goes with the next best thing
Idk didn't he say liam picked his class, that doesn't sound like a liam choice
Depends on how keyed into enabling Sam's antics he is 🤷♂️
