SAM?!
Laura (not Jester) almost had tears from those vows ❤️
Wait do we know all the names of the five sunder houses yet cause I know so far three
Royce, Halover, Tachonnis, Einfaasen, and Cormoray
Word ok
Got a question for the chat. In CR 4x03 and 4x04, you were:
a) surprised by the death of Occtis
b) surprised by the return of Occtis
c) both
d) neither
I was a little surprised when he returned, and initially I was rolling my eyes a little. But when they shared that it was semi-planned so Alex could play a Hollow One I got over it. Plus the overture was like the most complicated session 0 ever and I love them for doing it the way they did.
I’ve really been enjoying the soldiers table too now that they’ve gotten away from shuffling 13 people around haha
I was surprised by both aha
is critical role on?
I'm 4 episodes into campaign 4 and I'm just now realizing Sam is playing as a cleric with only 10 wisdom
What the heck happened in character creation?
18 charisma, too, bro wrong stats or wrong class?
He is a sorcerer
oh you are right, my bad
Apparently Liam suggested he would be a dwarf warlock and he agreed... and then changed his mind. (from the latest beacon fireside chat)
Anyone know what the demi-gauntlet is mechanically? The thing Julian Davinos uses
I was wondering that myself actually.
Is Jester’s deity “real”? Or is it just an emphasis of her character being a little mad?
Oh, he's real
REALly chaotic
We already met the traveler in vox machine btw
I believe it has properties similar to a dagger. I think it did 1d4 as a bonus attack? feel free to correct me tho cause i might be misremembering
I feel like we really need a map for the world of C4
I remember hearing d6, that's why I'm confused
Oh yeah it might be d6, but it probably has light property to allow for use as a bonus attack. Haven’t watched the last ep yet, so I’ve no idea if we learnt anything new about it, but there wasn’t much info to begin with
Oh nvm LOLOL
I didn't read the comments after I said that and I just got to that reveal
You can say that again.
I have a theory that Pincushion might be more than it seems~ I was just watching the recap video and Alex was just saying "There's still a few hiccups in Pin" and I was remembering that during his Fireside Chat, he said the syringe on his chest is important.
I think the Syringe works as some form of repellant. Something to revert Pincushion back to little fox, or even possibly to insta-kill it because there might a chance it goes rogue or becomes something different~
I’m so invested in what the syringe might be for
is critical role on tonight?
i know it's thursday but im asking because its thanksgiving today.
im assuming it is, since its prerecorded anyway.
I think they said this week they will take a break from streaming campaign 4
You can check the announcements in their facebook page
I think they’re on break due to thanksgiving
(American thanksgiving for all my fellow Canadians)
We did?
yeah in ||the faewilds||
He was the ||Satyr they met.||
Hiding spoilers in the spoilers channel
It’s the only CR channel so I’d rather people get to make the choice
Especially if they are either watching the animated show or it’s there first time seeing it and don’t want any spoilers at all better safe than sorry
(Even though a lot of us are spoiling campaign 4 on Thursdays lol)
Watching the mighty nein and there is a lot of changes they made to the show from the campaign. I honestly really like it
That’s super fun I wasn’t sure how many changes they made since I didn’t watch the campaign but I’m glad people who did like them
oh yeah, it's different but in a way that still feels very critical role
That’s good
It's good that they made changes, the players didn't know their characters very well at that point in the campaign, but by the time the series was made they were fully fleshed out so the writers have a ton more to work with
and there's a lot more freedom for storytelling in a tv show because you can show things that are happening that the party isn't there to witness, and you can split the party up a lot easier
They did it really well with the Vox Machina series
So far Mighty Nein has been closer to what actually happened in the campaign than Vox Machina was, which stretched, compressed, and changed a lot more things even in the first handful of episodes
Ex: the backstory flashbacks of a lot of the characters had a lot of things that both happened in the campaign and/or happened to the group as a whole
There were some other changes to the show from the campaign's supplementary material.
Some yes, but overall its closer to the campaign than Vox was
Yasha was missing for 3 more episodes than she was in the campaign so far... I'd say that's further than the campaign than any changes Vox machina had
well they did say that she would be missing a lot from the begining of the show because of the fact that she was gone for months at a time
Yep but episode 4 is where she canonically goes missing so not true to its source
I like whatever story they tell don't get me wrong but in terms of accuracy I'd say rewriting an entire party member out is quite drastic in my opinion
True, not true to source, but IIRC Vox Machina wasn't true to source either. I would argue that it makes more sense that Yash is missing for the beginning because having Yash there because ||the Stormlord was protecting her|| only to randomly have her go missing over and over and then randomly getting reclaimed by ||Oban|| because Ashley couldn't be there is a bit more distracting to me.
Especially since she had missed the ||death of Mollymauk|| and when she did see his grave the scene is kinda deflated because it had been months since he died
Yeah the animated series' pace jives way better with me than the campaign for sure
Idk that baleful cry still sticks with but yeah
Yeah I'd agree with you there. I espeically like the first few episodes because it feels like we get to see like the session zeros that we don't get to see in the campaign
I wonder if they're going to nod to Molly and Yasha's dynamic in any way in the series
We'll have to see, they might skip out on the entire dynamic for conistency reasons. They are really leaning into the ||Eyes of Nine|| side of Molly
As they should I feel like Matt wanted to hint at it more but couldn't find anyway organic
I would agree, he probably had little things planned for him to have these flashes to his past, but due to his ||untimely death|| he never got the chance to.
Little hints are like Matt's specialty lol
I appreciate the effort they took with speaking german in Mighty Nein, but I cant help but cringe at small stuff. Wish it wouldnt bother me. Though Trent Ikkithon is flawless I must say
apparently Mark Strong has austrian roots?
damn Caleb you scary
reminds me of roy mustang from full metal alchemist
Oof. They made Caleb's backstory in the animated show hit that much harder.
Good ep
Although (personally) a bit boring because the tragic Caleb backstory was something dragged out throughout like 70% of the original campaign
I did appreciate the touches on his relationship with both his classmates though, since only Astrid really got any real amount of "screen" time originally
Trying to rewatch Mighty Nein (campaign version) alongside the show to see the differences and stuff but I forgot how dang long each episode is
I wonder when they'll shoot Sam in Campaign 4.
Why is like non of the mighty nein pins in the EU store?
I just want my girls Nott and Yasha
Huh????
Shooting players is not recommended, and, possibly, illegal
This is true
The intro for the Mighty Nein is fire, chills every time. The synth music is so good
-# > @loud ivy
In his ads, they've shot him with nerf guns and water guns.
Oh I see lmao
Who’s y’alls favorite character in mighty nein so far? I’m watching the show and the campaign at the same time and Caleb is by far my fav. Fjord is a close second
i like marcus
Just seen Matt mercer playing in the acquisitions incorporated campaign and my mind is blown !!!
He was really funny
Caleb and NOtt
So valid, Nott is my gf’s fav
Real, I like Caleb cause of the language which is German (If I'm not mistaken) I just find Dutch and German so nice to hear
It’s German, zemnian in the show, but that scene in the show where he is basically incinerating the halfling volstrucker, chef’s kiss
NO spoilers Im busy watchinggg
SORRY!!!!!
Idk how to do the blocked out text for spoilers, my bad
zemnian is german yeah. its pretty obvious who is a native speaker or as good as one and who just learned the lines for the show though
in C4, Thimble is a fairy rogue. she is so small, wouldnt her AC be like very high?
Nope. They're using 5e, not 3e.
AC is not related to size in dnd 5e
Now these are some real changes to the story (||ironically not really yasha yet still. Her impact on the early campaign was... negligible to say the least.) And also Nydas my beloved. Love that they made him look more like Lou||
What are the mighty nein character classes and subclasses?
Jester Lavorre - Trickery Cleric
Mollymauk "Molly" Tealeaf - Order of the Ghostslayer Blood Hunter
Yasha Nydoorin - Path of the Zealot Barbarian
Caleb Widogast - School of Transmutation Wizard
Beauregard "Beau" Lionett - Way of the Cobalt Soul Monk
Nott the Brave - Arcane Trickster Rogue
Fjord - Hexblade Warlock
I was trying to guess some and I only got wizard, rouge and hexblade correct lol
Alr, i forgot about it. I knew she was a monk but didn't know which subclass
Is it just me or like, is the new show way darker than campaign 2 actually was? I don't remember this many people dying, it's kinda disheartening compared to what I remember of campaign 2
I wonder how long it will be till we see Beau x Yasha edits with Free from KpDH.
Goddamn it I fell asleep early and missed the start
I missed the first 45 minutes can anyone briefly summarize what happened? Or have I missed too much and should I just wait until Monday
…45 minutes is a lot I hate missing context I’m joining the Monday crew
Gosh darn eepy
Generally speaking yes there was still a ton of death in c2
The main difference here is we are getting to see a lot of things that happened "off screen" in the original campaign, like everything essek and the assembly is involved in
The thing with a lot of the "on screen" death in c2 is the same as a lot of death in dnd in general as a combat centric game - its usually just the enemies or random npcs
So it either got glossed over with a sentence or two (because they werent important npcs) or the party were the ones who killed them in combat
they do add a couple of more deaths with NPCs that arent relevant anymore I guess
to tie up loose ends
It can't just be me, but this last episode Brennan is going crazy with the "uhm. you see..." every 3 seconds XD
I'm 2 hours in and he said that exact sentence like 30 times in 5 minutes
Anyone else notice that?
The ending of ep 9 was wild
Ikrrr
Insane
They gonna find out what happened to occtis
WHICH IS GONNA BE INSANE
probably
I want them to find out what happened to him
For drama
Is anybody else tired of the soldiers table? I thought the last game was a good wrap-up but they’re barreling forward into new adventures and I’d like to get back to the other groups
It’s getting there for me I hoping this is the last episode but who knows
I actually couldn't complete the episode. I'm hoping they pick their hype back because the first several episodes were so special and exciting but now the pacing and story just feels less fun to me~ I had to skip it and hope the next one is more fun haha
im rewatching c2 and i just finished the traveler con
i have to say the way the group treats the traveler still rubs me the wrong way
there was certainly cause for concern and even some judgement when the whole "im not a god" thing happened i think but with how they handled it, youd think the issue is resolved between them
and their constant insistance that "the power is all jester" and they owe him nothing is so weird to me
jester is great and one of my favs but why cant they accept that the spells are not all jester
imagine having this best-friend/father-figure from childhood and you run into a new friend group who then trashtalk this guy who means everything to you, all the time, ignoring his obvious allegiance and help giving to them as well
just had to vent this somewhere. it feels so unfair
he has lied to jester, came clean later though. yes. but he never betrayed her or them
and to have this harsh judgement come from a group that plays loose with morals themselves sometimes is just so irritating (i love them)
if i was in that party, id have worried about the fakegod part for a while, seen how he still clearly cares for jester, and especially after he broke her free when being taken in for penance by the moonweaver, i would have realised he really does love her and is a friend
they act like hes this belt-whipping dad who comes for gambling money once a year and never does anything for his daughter
but hes great
I fear this is one of the consequences of doing multiple tables is if they spend too long at one table. People are just gonna get impatient, but that was bound to happen and there’s not really much they can do about it cause even if they do like shorter segments between tables, it might be too short and then people might complain about that so there really isn’t much that they can do.
Yeah - like it makes sense that they can only switch tables once they get to a certain point where it makes sense. I think what I came into this campaign expecting was that the tables swapped much more often.
I feel like the hook with Thjazi's death and his escape plan failing was such a BANGER idea, but the direction the story has taken hasn't been properly making use of that awesome hook. We're less than 10 episodes in though so I just got to be patient - some episodes will be slower than others anyway.
The hook was amazing, I think with the soldier’s table it took a different direction, a new kind of that not all of the tables we’re gonna go into the direction of thjazis death directly but again it’s only like the 10th episode and you never know maybe the schemer table will actually go through with that hook since they are in the city still
I have a feeling that the seeker’s table is not gonna do that. Their plot is currently revolving around the stone of night song and I think how the tables are doing. Their stories is kind of like a bunch of smaller stories that lead up into that big hook thing. Thjazis death instead like a bunch of little puzzle pieces were little pieces that he left behind that lead to a bigger thing I think that’s kind of what the idea is so far is my theory.
part of the mighty nein's defining traits are their distrust; I think them acting like that is because sdo much of them actually HAD a figure like that in their life and they like jester too much they don't want her to experience what most of them did, I do agree their way of going about it was unfair towards Artagan since he did not actually did anything drastic that he did not eventually atone for at least in jester's eyes, but them treating him that way is unfair both to him AND Jester, very interesting opinion I haven't considered
ok Essek you are a piece of shit too 😄
Im glad that they are playing into the Essek is a war criminal and probably shouldn't be redeemable
this answer satisfies me
good reason for them to be like that but also acknowledging my feelings
yeah i think the "unfair to jester" part is really interesting because they do clearly mean to care for each other
also: poor marius
I really hope the animated series portray this toxic "co"-dependedacy some day
i could do without it to be honest
That's certainly a way to do level ups
It's pretty neat
I’m a fan honestly. Idk if I trust my own tables to responsibly trigger their level up in game 😂
This is good for Brennan to gently guide or redirect the table too.
This is true
im excited to see campaign 4 for myself but i must finish 3 first
I do like that they do help Whitney a lot, Sam also during episodes leans in and whispers some tips etc.
Also how Brennen caught Sam's possible mistake of taking a feat that would only half-apply is good too, i do like that he does help them with those tips and guiding, not saying they shouldn't choose something but giving alternatives etc. too
I think it's for now okay, upcoming ep should be the last soldiers table since they level up, new year we should begin with new table. They also killed Cas, true, but Cyd was also big hook of their adventure, so i think once that's finished it's time to switch. The episodes are long, so there is some down time, but in every episode there's some exciting stuff happening, like their stakeout at the hospital etc. for me was very good even though it wasn't that filled with action.
I’ve also seen Robbie a few time helping her with her character sheet things. I love how help they help each other with any mistakes they make and yeah
I feel this might be one of the last soldiers episode since it seems to be very climactic but I wonder which table they will go to next it’s most likely seekers but yeah
I got an idea for a campaign set in Exandria: After the events of Campaign 3, it would involve preventing something bad between the Dwendalian Empire and the Kryn Dynasty as well the ascension of Exandria's version of Bhaal.
I am currently a player in an exandria campaign with a sort of similar setup. its cool to play so close to these established things imo
How did it go?
well we chases a sort of resurrected? Ripley from Hupperdook into the underdark and and ended up in Asarius and later in Rosohna, where we needed to foil a plot by the children of malice to summon Lolth. also King Dwendal got assassinated in the process and that almost caused another war lol
we also briefly met Beau and Caleb, though there were more in the background of one scene
I know you're a player, but do you have any tips for handling that kind of premise?
hmm, I guess the main issue to figure out ahead of time is what all the powerful and well known NPCs are up to
so your group can still feel like the main characters but if those names come up, you arent stuck for why they arent solving the issue for your group
that can be they are busy elsewhere, or their hands are tied by politics, or they deal with a different aspect of the problem and cant multitask etc
Ooh. Ooooooh! I have a wicked idea!
The person trying to ascend like Bhaal would be a child of Vesh.
I’m watching the mighty nein series, and Essek as a character feels like he’s being as fleshed out as one of the player characters, is he like the main villain or something?
more like he became the party's favorite NPC
i thought that was pumat soul
Definitely essek, considering where he ended up
I've made it to campaign 4 episode 7 and I seriously feel frustrated at how many hints that aren't being picked up. Even though the hints are right there, and theres the possibility of epic things to happen
Brennan keeps telling them about a bridge that "looks like it's still being made", he mentions it twice. First before the caravan party even crosses. And then one more time when they're on their way back. At no point does anyone of them stop to ask should we blow up/destroy the bridge while they're on it? Since the Tachonis party seems super high leveled, I'm sure fighting head on is not the best idea. But surely there's a chance of taking out at least some of them by using the bridge? Is it a long stretch? Do let me
They even got a mystery egg to do stuff with and Wick is a Sorcerer, hell, even Kattigan and Teor could take swings at the beams or whatever unfinished structure is holding it up. Also the call to not shadow the Tachonises but instead go for Casimir seemed so weird
Anyway, as long as they're having fun. Doesn't have to be a meta-game session every time, I just think it's nice when they ping pong a bit with Brennan
What are you guys' thoughts on Thjazi Fang as a character?
Hes still a mystery but is def hiding something
Dust of deliciousness secured. Cannot wait to see that scene animated
probably gonna be in season 3, right? not sure one the timeline
Yea, not sure where s2 would go up to though
Not the vox machina reference and Jester’s sprinkles
hey i just finished mighty nein S1 and i was wondering where to start the actual play?
Episode 1 would be most ideal, but it depends on your goal
was wondering right after the end of s1
Episode 12 of the actual play is the equivalent of season 1's last episode so either that or the episode right after, episode 13
Bro I can't believe how incredible the mighty nein adaptation is wow. They brought their absolute A game
Its wild when I saw Nott was a female character voiced by a male VA (ive not watched the critical role DnD sessions) I really assumed I'd find the character grating. But she's actually my favorite character by far.
Nott's a great character! She was one of my favorites before magic happened
I really did not expect to like her so much but she's actually great. Her VA does a fantastic job too. The Mighty Nein's dynamic in general is incredible. Insanely good cast of characters
her and Caleb's dynamic is really well done
Sam's an incredible talented VA and also an amazing human being!!
And yes, their team dynamic is really good. They translated it into the show way better than it was in the show. It felt kinda off until the incident, but they really clicked after and their chemistry improved alot.
Thanks!
Guys, if I wanna start a campaign set in Exandria across the three major continents (Tal'dorei, Wildemount and Marquet) which books would I need?
"Explorer's guide to Wildemount" and "Tal’dorei Campaign Setting: Reborn" are the two major books
not sure there is anything officially published for marquet, you might need to rely on the CR wiki for more info there
Call of the Netherdeep has a gazetteer for Ank’Harel that I thiiiiiink might have some general info about the surrounding area
EDIT: the gazetteer pretty much covers only Ank’Harel, so yeah, the wiki and Campaign 3 would be your main references for Marquet
That’s gonna cost a pretty penny. I don't have the DMs handbook or the monster manuel either so together that’s gonna be really expensive
you can try to get by with the free rules and skip those two books I think. two thirds of the MM are free and all the important DM stuff
You can make a campaign on D&DBeyond and invite someone who has those books.
Honestly you don’t need em at all, if you just run your campaign based on what you remember from CR and your own creativity, Matt Mercer isn’t gonna come round your house and be mad
I’ve never purchased any books for dnd, it’s all up in the noggin for me
I was explicitly told he'd show up and throw pool noodles at me.
His heart’s not really in it so he doesn’t throw them very hard
Running a campaign set in Wildemount and I have a question.
In the “Explorers Guide To Wildemount” history section concerning the Dwendalian Empire and Julious Dominion, and the Marrow War, it’s revealed via the faction section that and I quote:
“A high cleric of the Julous Dominion made secret pacts with a devil of the Nine Hells, hoping to gain enough power to repel the aggressive Dwendalian Empire. However, he failed to read the fine print of the devilish contract — he succeeded in his mission, but his people paid a terrible cost. The empire was indeed repelled, but it was because the lands of the Marrow Valley were brimming with devils and undead. The common folks hid in their homes, and the valley grew unhallowed and gray.”
Let’s say that said devil had not only manipulated certain events prior that would gradually lead to both sides going to war and then approached said priest with the aforementioned contract.
But also they represented a specific Archdevil as the one who sent the devil to the marrow valley in the first place, which Archdevil specifically would’ve been the most invested in instigating the Marrow War and why?
Personally I'd think either Levistus or Dispater
Interesting. Can I ask why?
I would imagine Dispater would've been more sensitive to the high cleric's growing paranoia and anxiety that naturally plague a high ranking person losing a war and being more delighted to manipulate that.
As for Levistus, I'd say a combination of boredom in his imprisonment and perhaps wanting to make a move that will gain a foothold for his master and therefore proving his merit to him into releasing him. OR the marrow valley might contain fragments of the key to his imprisonment and the ensuing plague of devils and undead are his search crew
Good points.
I was honestly thinking maybe Zariel or Geryon given both of their proclivities for war, albeit for different reasons.
Zariel especially since “A select group of devils and mortal followers who seek to cause strife and destabilize harmonious communities serve as Zariel’s chief corruptors. By funding evil groups, making and distributing weapons, and causing random acts of violence in the name of some enemy to ignite the spark of war, devils swell the capacity for mortals to commit acts of evil, corrupting souls by the thousands and thus ensuring the legions of devils are full of diabolic soldiers for the Blood War.”
But perhaps someone like Dispater or Levistius makes more sense.
Hey that's valid as well! I just interpret this excerpt to emphasize that the manipulation wasn't about inciting a war it was about exploting an existing war for [insert lawful evil reason here]
That is true.
New question. I'm almost done with the og Mighty Nein campaign (on ep 119). When I go to campaign 3, should I go abriged or not?
Depends on the time you want to spend
Alright Essek
I never watched the abridged c3. But I quite enjoyed most moments of the long campaign. I think c3 gets unfairly criticized. Anyways, how much time you've got is a valid way to pick.
I barely see any of the og campaign on my Youtube. Guess I'll go abriged
Campaign 1 and part of Campaign 2 are on Geek and Sundry's YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7atuZxmT954bCkC062rKwXTvJtcqFB8i
I will personally say that I do think a lot of the criticism of C3 is pretty fair
Especially in regards to the back and forth that they repeat every two episodes for way too long
(the "are the gods actually the bad guys" bit that went on for what? like 40 episodes? at least)
I mean campaign 3
I can’t see it
maybe blocked in your country? otherwise you should be able to see this playlist
anyone else who's watched vox machina (the show, not the table) find it weird that percy builds bad news, shoots it ONCE, then doesnt touch it for like 8 episodes?
im on s2e6, surely he uses it more right?
omg ya thats so true
yaya surely..
as far as ive watched, in the first i think 6 table plays ive seen so far, he uses it CONSTANTLY
in the show, he doesnt have it at first, has the demon pepperbox, BUILDS bad news, shoots it ONE time and then just acts like it doesnt exist??????? makes that four barrel thing, uses it in fights???
nono, even funnier, 2 episodes later, a further ONE shot
Has anyone seen Campaign 4 Episode 10?
yes
I’ve been catching up with Campaign 4 (not having watched any of the previous campaigns) and it’s been a lot of fun. This episode was kinda weird though, the mid battle level ups didn’t work super well
With how Brennan built the world and encounters being sometimes not fairly levelled depending on the thing encountered I think it works in that respect but in normal campaigns I don’t think it would work
If level ups are supposed to be at moments that make sense for the characters, then it makes more sense for Brennan to just decide that in milestone format. The system puts pressure on the players to figure out a good story reason why they’re levelling up without it seeming like they’re metagaming by using level ups as a panic button (which is kind of what happened here)
I guess that makes sense but this is there first time trying this so we’ll see if they keep it or move back to milestone but I guess we haft to wait and see
Or like if they do keep it make a rule that leveling up happens after or before combat so we don’t have use level up as a panic button
Wick taking Tough felt very heat of the moment and not at all like a natural character decision. It makes more sense to have something like, levelling up on the next long rest after a significant character development
That one felt very heat of the moment
I do agree with that
But who knows what will happen especially with the other tables as well
It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out with the tables that aren’t as combat focused
Soldiers are supposed to be the most combat focused and even they still only have one combat every second session
I wonder how it will work with the schemers cause it looks like so far they are the least combat focused
And idk about the seekers table they are up in the air for me combat wise they might be more travelling focused but who knows
The Seekers might still have a fair amount of combat since they had the Tachonis fight in Episode 4 and Occtis and Vaelus were both in the Crow Keepers fight in Episode 2
Yeah ig we won’t know until we get back to the seekers table
Also which table to do think is gonna be playing next after soldiers?
The Seekers have all my favourite characters and I don’t really care for the Schemers so far, so I’m really hoping it’s them
Though maybe I’ll warm up to them if they get more of a spotlight
I can’t wait for the seekers the schemer have grown on me so far
i can't wait for Julien's zuko arc
When is the next episode of C4 coming out is it the 15th??
Yes
Real real
Did they not post the ep10 cooldown? I must have missed an announcement
Nope they are doing after episode 11
Ah pooey, time to have critical role hangover
yall have beacon?
whats the advantage of getting its subscription
when they are goona release the game for free on youtube anyway
(For the record I don’t have beacon, I just looked into getting it for a while and the only reason I didn’t was because financial stuff came up)
You get the episodes early which makes it easier to avoid spoilers yes. But you also get access to a lot of behind the scenes stuff, like the Cooldown which is the cast calming down from and discussing the session moments after it finishes. There’s a bunch of other behind the scenes stuff/shows, a sizeable discount on merch from their store, and even access to a community discord server that the cast pops up and chats in every once in a while.
How much is it
$5.99 a month. (Not including tax)
Oh is that all? I should stop skipping the ad breaks I guess lol
so I've been watching critical role as of recent and THE SILLY CIRCUS MAN MOLLYMAUK IS DEAD😭
I'm lowkey devastated
We've all been there buddy it gets better
I am up par with Campaign 4 but also trying to finish Campaign 2, so far I like the setting of C2 a bit more but it feels different from the approach and change of Campaign 4
It IS different, campaign 4 is a different setting, players, DM and style, while campaign 2 is a more classic style with just new characters but same players
I found CR when C3 started. I was too intimidated to try and go back to watch C1 and C2. But I’m loving C4
I litterally only watched C3 the dentist
Cause I was very confused but was less confused when I was doing something
But I love c4
So I just got to Campaign 3 episode 52, and it's giving me ideas for my home campaign
I mean, I really love campaign 2, I would say it's the best campaign they did so far (I haven't listened to 1), but I get it, it is a little intimidating to see 140+ episodes and jump in
such as? 👀
Later on in a later campaign separating all 3 players into different continents that are in my world
Oh they do that every campaign lol but I do wonder as to how fun it would be to the players if at all and how it'd work
well yeah, they go to different continents every campaign but in this case, the party has been split and communication spells are gone
So we barely got any Yasha in season 1 and that makes me mad but it's even worse that she only hade a minute of screentime in 5 hours. One minute!
im pretty sure her plotline will be focused way more in season 2
honestly its a good narrative choice.. it hypes the non campaign watchers
but i get why it is frustrating
yeah i imagine that they decide it was easier to narrtivly hold off on her till later on that try add her in to a section where ashley was away from a large section of the time irl
Yo I’m part of the monday crew and I thought there was a new episode showing up on YouTube yesterday
Imagine my surprise and utter disbelief that I have to wait another week
The next episode is this Thursday, the 15th, so there won't be a new episode until the Monday following.
Hey does anyone know which episode Essek’s mom dies in? I’m trying to find clips for an edit
It’s been rough trying to find clips people already cut
i think it was episode 7
Thank you!!
Idk if I’m just not a tough critic (though I feel that I am) but I am really really enjoying campaign 4, probably significantly more than I liked campaign 3 and I really loved campaign 3.
There’s a lot of people on Reddit who don’t feel as I do and I’m shocked by it. All I know, is I am 100% the target audience for this new style of campaign
Reddit will try to make you hate something you actually enjoy. Especially for critters Reddit used to be an OK (not great) place to discuss the main campaign. Nowadays it’s just a hateful karma farm.
I can’t keep them straight, but one of the CR subreddits exists literally because the other one is “too positive” 😂 like god forbid people enjoy things.
Anyways I am in the same boat - I adored campaign 3 but C4 has been awesome so far and I find myself really excited on Thursday evenings again.
I think its kinda natural that some people wont enjoy every DM the same. They started CR because of Matt and his dynamic with his players and Brennan is just different
Yeah I can’t see how anyone could have anything against Brennan as a DM. He’s different than Matt for sure but it’s a lateral shift in tone rather than one being better than the other
It’s chefs kiss all around for me and I’m super addicted, I’m itching for more. Super stoked to see Matt as a player actually
Some complain to complain. Those who dont enjoy it find other media's of theirs or other channels. I watched a few episodes of it. Cast, story, set is 10/10 my brain just couldn't handle so much new information so I had to stop.
We back!
WE SO BACK
10/10 ads as always
Liam sounded like he was doing a Pumat impression haha
NEW TABLE YAY
VESTIGE????
(What does that mean exactly?????)
oh insane
EXSCUSE ME?! A VESTIAGE?! TYRANNY MADE A VESTIAGE?!
Pretty much
Almost done with the actual play of Mighty Nein. On ep 129. Almost time to start C3
I can’t wait
I missed my boy occtis
ASHLEY JOHNSON WILL BE HERE!
I they’re going to become my favourite table
I’m only slightly worried about the dynamic about these other two tables compared to the soldiers. I feel like I had so much fun listening to the players having fun. They sort of got all of the chaotic energy out of all 13 characters and I feel like the rest of the players are in it for the drama a bit more than for the fun (not that there’s anything wrong with that)
The exceptions are occtis and Murray (maybe Bolaire) but for the rest of them I feel like they’re all so tense and serious
No doubt I will still be interested in the insane plot of the show but I just don’t know if I expect to laugh as much as I did with the soldiers
I feel like the way Ashley went with Vealus the seekers might have some moments but they seem to be a tense group
so uh- im currently watching E6 of the new campaign, just saw Wicanders real class and THE LOOK IN THIS MANS EYES HE LOOKS PSYCHO?!
SAM REIGEL CAST SHIELD AND LOOKED LIKE A DEMON TOOK HIM OVER 😭 i love this campaign so much
I mean, when I first saw his stats when they were first releasing them and how he was claiming he was a cleric. I saw his Wisdom being his third lowest stat and went "bull"
He avoided that subclass reveal so hard
💕 They hate each other 💕
Oh that’s so gross I love it
holy crap, Brennan
I love how this table literally can’t talk to people it’s so funny
Not in a like we need to stay hidden more like a no one here as ever held a conversation with anyone other than maybe two people
Oh no no I knew he wasn’t a cleric
What subclass?
Liam in the cold open!
He was about to say something about what kind of Bard he was but Brennan reminded him he may not have in-game gotten his subclass since it was a flashback~
Celestial soul I believe
Clockwork soul actually
On episode 131 of C2. Almost done, started last year. Then it's time to go to C3 (abridged)
can someone explain how tf the chateau shorthalt works gameplay wise? I haven't talked to my dm yet but I want to make a bastion, I've always thought the dnd home stuff would be so cool
but how does the scanman do all of this
Its Mordenkainens Magnificent Mansion
It comes up a few times that they can't use it because he used all his appropriate slots on other things during the day
coolio, I am an artificer so I might have to bootleg forge a magic item my way into this
I am kinda the party healer...
or not?
Notably, its not a bastion
I have two different sources, one saying artificers get it, one saying they dont?
both 24'
Their keep would be more akin to a bastion (but that was before bastion rules)
Artificer does not get it iirc
yeah ik, but naturally without doing the whole forge of the artificer thing (I have the book, it seems very confusing) the whole moving bastion thing is a bit confusing. this seems rather simple as long as I keep a spell slot spare, considering artificers can disintegrate their magic items to get slots back, i should be ok?
then I am very confused
I'm going to check my book, maybe it includes something on it
I mean it IS a 7th level spell, artificers stop at 5
Ok I don't get mansion, but I do get private sanctum. iirc we have a sorcerer as the other spell caster, so yeah I think moving bastion is the move
thanks!
12 is the first even-numbered episode of Campaign 4 to not include a combat encounter
I’ve been paying attention to how frequent combat is to inspire the structure of my own game
I would say with the seeker & schemer tables combat isn't going to be very frequent. The seeker table will most likely focus on exploration with combat sprinkled through, and the schemer table being heavily roleplay focused due to that table remaining in Dol-Makjar
Replying to the guy above forgot to reply properly ^
I think the Seekers will still have semi frequent combat because we saw a battle map in their teaser and they had a combat in episode 4. In fact, I’m pretty sure the only characters who haven’t been in any combat so far are the Schemers
Yes you're right, what I meant to say but obviously had a huge brain fart was combat probably won't be as frequent as the soldier's table
Yeah the shoulders had combat like once and episode basically I think they only really had very like two episodes that didn’t have an encounter
But those episodes were setting up encounters
Yeah I don’t think it’s gonna be as crazy as the soldiers but def a few fights
The Soldiers only had combats every second session. Hawthorn’s Glade and the Wraith Tree in Episode 6, the Battle of Castle Sloak in Episode 8, and the Knight of Seremai in Episode 10. That’s less than most DND campaigns
Ahh ok
I see
It just felt like a lot to me lol
God I hope Otto is chill
He’s so cool
Please don’t brain Aranessa
Or Occtis
I know that in Dolmakyar the Einfassens are causing trouble with the revolutionary guard but… cmon!
PLANETARY RINGS?!
ITS SO COOL
Hot potatwink loooool
You can't kill what is already dead I say!
Where can I watch the rebroadcast this Saturday? Will it be on YouTube?
I would assume beacon
Everyone wants him more dead
Guys give him a break he’s only 5’11
Ressurect them and kill them idk
Technically that has happened (though it’s reanimation)
But occtis has been through a lot lmao poor boy
What would be the point of rebroadcasting somewhere where it’s already on VOD?
Ad revenue & audience reach
the vod goes up on youtube on monday not sure on the exact time but the rebroadcast happens I think 10 hours after the original broadcast only
Oh wait they posted this in beacon.
As a quick note, our usual public rebroadcast will be postponed <t:1769792400:f>, so that everyone at Critical Role has the option to participate in the Nationwide General Strike in response to the ongoing brutality seen across our country, but especially in Minneapolis.
Rebroadcasts will resume on <t:1769878800:F>.
Hey guys, can somebody remind me what the seekers were going to do? I forgot why they started going through the Dvalmar pass so I'm a little confused on where they're going or what the goal is
I just finished the mighty nein show and I wanna start the campaign from where the show ended so what episode would that be?
What happened last?
Btw some NPCs and stuff may be new to you of course so be ready for some headscratching
Reddit tells me that its pretty messy and depicts around 18 episodes of the podcast, while including things from even into the 100+ range
Oh wow
I just read some synopsis, this is very very different
Seems to me youd wanna watch maybe episode 18 and just kinda listen for yourself
It doesnt transfer perfectly so use your own judgement for an exact spot id say
Oh my gosh thank you for figuring this out for me you are a lifesaver🙏
Its not gonna be clean mind you
The synopsis of e8 actually shocked me with the reveals coming super late into podcast
I may just restart the campaign so I can just get every piece of information but still thank you for your help
You will mostly be wondering why they dont know something yet
Ahh that’ll be ok
They are going to the golden orchard then maybe heading towards the tachonis historical lands
The maybe is more of a that’s a future plans for a future arch most likely
For the most part its less that its very different and more that a lot of stuff simply wasn't revealed until far later
Yeah. And changing on some minor characters/ them not existing.
Like Astrid for example is only mentioned once by the time the show ends if you go to the actual play
If you have the time and dedication I'd highly recommend watching from the beginning, it's very worth it just to experience the character dynamics with the group themselves
yea there are changes to the story and characters but not in an exactly dramatic way. Like the whole beacon theft plotline (specifically, with the tower and all that) was literally none of the characters in the show, but functionally in terms of the story isn't truly impactful in that way
How are we feeling about the seekers table so far
I love them so much
Honestly im just very intrigued by there story a lot more
Matt as a player is a whole different vibe and I love it so much
I also like how this is turning into “where is occtis” since he’s presumed dead showed up a good way around the country but on th other side there’s a note directly from him
He’s like haunting the narrative but like he’s still and active part of it
I’m currently a lot more invested then I was with the soldiers
There’s surprisingly a lot more silly goofy fun time then I thought there was gonna be
I'm hoping Ashley gets the chance to shine soon. I feel like she hasn't gotten to contribute as much as everyone else.
She’ll have her moment soon I just feel it
We’ve gotten a lot more Julien than I was expecting
(I’m loving the body horror stuff very gross in loving it)
I can’t quite put my finger on it but I feel like this is my least favorite of the 3 tables. Idk if it’s the characters, players, or plot but I was much more enthusiastic about watching the soldiers and I like the intrigue with the schemers
I’ve watched every episode and idek if I could answer this question. I thought it had something to do with the body of the halfling god but that hasn’t really come up and then there’s something about going to fairy but I don’t think that’s their main destination
I’m th total opposite I’m so hyped about the weeks but to be fair a lot of my fave characters are in this table and non of my fav characters are in the soldiers so yeah
Do you remember what happened to the halfling god’s body?
Maybe my biggest gripe is that I was promised seeking and getting answers but the only thing I’m getting is fleeing
Perhaps the seeking is coming soon I guess I think the table just made some really weird decisions that just made it seem like they’re just fleeing
I just really like the seekers. I I just prefer that the way that the story is being played out. I felt like the soldiers at some point became a little repetitive just with we’re gonna talk about a thing we’re gonna go to a place we’re gonna do a thing and we’re gonna fight a thing and that’s really what it was at least to me the entire time like we learned some really cool info about the houses and the hounds of the king and what not but it just felt like a cycle the entire time
I feel like we will get more seeker stuff as their story progresses just the goals that they have currently are very very long-term so it might take them a lot longer to get there and I think as of right now they might not get all of their goals done they might get some of them though
Those are true points, I suppose I’m feeling the frustration about the lack of progress towards their goals. With the soldiers table I felt the goals and progress were very clear. Find and save Teor’s brother, get revenge against Cazimir (idk how it’s spelled)
And that’s fair to feel after having a table was was so direct with there goals then going now to table that’s basically side questing
That’s a vaild feeling to have
Also they released two of the five houses emblems and facts which is so fun
This is so ridiculous
Borderline sitcom energy if not for the threat of imminent doom
Like once occtis died his combat jus became amazing
Also the seekers tactic of just bullying tyranny’s sisters is hilarious
Yo guys I'm a little behind (only ep 12), but why did Lord Einfasen just ice that handmaiden? I feel like there's something I missed because that went from 0 to 100 pretty damn quick
they explained in that session that hte Enfasen clan has ZERO CHILL, they so straight from green to red in a moment with no inbetween. so very quick to anger.
so when it was revealed that the handmaiden betrayed them by spying (likely to send for the Takonis folks) it was Clang goes the hammer
As far as I know they're going to the golden orchard to see if that was attacked too. And see if they have any family alive? The seekers plot is a bit more confusing but I think that's the main goal it seems
The seekers plot is a lot less linear
For sure! It just seems to be the #1 priority right now, at least to me
Same there plot is really they will get there but how they get there is the question
I don’t think they will be a group that will be going back to dol-makjar anytime soon tho
I feel like the seekers with their big plot they won’t be back but maybe will find some other people from other tables to go
yeahh they've got a lot of stuff to do and figure out
Oh my god do not send Aranessa to the Golden Orchard BY HERSELF!!!!
Didn’t the Kettlehobs say that it’s fallen already?!
SHES GONNA DIE IF YOU SEND HER BY HERSELF DONT DO IT
Ok if Kurzingblad is going with her I take it back she’s perfectly safe lol
-# I say still extremely nervous
I WAS GONNA CRY LIKEOH MY GOD
So when do new episodes of Campaign 4 drop on YouTube? Is there a delay for non-paying viewers?
mondays
I’m watching the rest of the campaigns to tide me over between C4 releases. It’s so jarring seeing Orion/Tiberius there in the early episodes
I'm gonna say; Bolaire is probably my least favorite character right now. He's like Percy's haughty nobility side, turned up to 11, and just full of Talesin's long drawn-out sighs. 😅
That, coupled with Hal's melancholy and Azune's straight-man personality means I am not really looking forward to full sessions for the Schemers. (I am undecided if I like Murray yet; she could get insufferable in large amounts)
Like, conceptually I very much like what Talesin and Brennan have built for Bolaire's history/lore, I just don't really like his performance.
Only in DnD do you get stories of matchmaking cursed skeleton ghost pirates and getting them to bone
Exactly
I’m more of seekers table person myself I am excited to see the dynamic but I do see your point but yeah I’ll watch th schemers
That’s what I like about C4 after the prologue you can just skip to who Evers table you want to watch which is always fun
Watching c3 properly for the first time
I kinda tapped out after the theatre last time because of live changes and general vibe
But this time im enjoying it so far
oh c3 is picking up now, tying the party together and bringing in some interesting larger plot
nightmare king, the storm dreams and visions, the twins
its getting somewhere
i think my main problem with the start for this one was that the party wasnt as engaging when it comes to "random low level adventure" stories
they need some bigger picture to shine
c1 and c2 could walk into any level 2 dungeon and fascinate me
I love how the seekers can’t go one episode without a emotional support NPC
I wonder if bringing the stone of nightsong, made of celestial bone, to the place where celestials might be made, is perhaps a bad idea
Brennan flipping them off with his mug for making fun of his birds 🤣
Seeker table being th bird table is my favourite
He’s giving them the bird if you will
The Soldiers have a falcon motif, Seekers have nightingales, and Schemers have magpies
I love all there bird motifs
But this last episode seekers got extra birded
Im just waiting for the soldiers to come back. The other tables dont interest me character wise. Teor, tyranny and wick are so fun
I lowkey miss them already!
I’m honestly so very sad that the seekers are ending I love them sm
But I do miss the soldiers
I’m so sad the seekers arch is ending I love this tale so
Much
How do you guys know they're ending?
I think some people are saying there was only gonna be two
More episodes so I’m going with that
(I hope there more)
what are your impressions about c2 after traveler con? i feel like the story is kinda falling apart (this is my first cr campaing i'm watching)
Oh just you wait
A bit of patience
I fully understand though and agree feeling like that at the point youre at
||"I do have an eye for design, I see you, pink, I see the handle pink." Kattigan, the smooth talker||
I'm currently watching C2. Just finished king's cage
Watching it as i watch C4
same here i am at e110 from C2, its improving from Travelercon tbh
Traveler con wasn't good?
I didn't love the Vokodo part, but that's personal taste
I see
I loved the vokodo part
But between travelercon and the twist it does get rather slow mostly
The hag is good
agree, the final part of travelercon is amazing
the hag part is incredibly good (if the one you refer is the one I have in my head - Jester's trick)
the initial landing on the island until the resolution of vokodo is what seemed a tad slow to me
I keep forgetting that CR takes a break every last thursday so there's no new episodes on the first mondays of the month
No episode today?
I think the message above you, explains why.
But they did release Episode 17 last week
yeah, episodes come out the monday after they stream it on Youtube, and the Thursday after they stream it on Spotify in podcast form. Though I am not sure if they just release every week since they seem to be releasing in 2 part episodes
It’s out. I’m watching it right now lol
So I was wondering if I can ask something about Matt mercer, I'm currently watching ep 3 of c3 and I've heard in ep 70ish he refused to tell Laura (I think that's her name) if she was in range or not and there's a lot of controversy. Basically I want to know if I should keep watching or if I'm not going to like Matt by the end of c3
Also no spoilers please about the story itself as it's my first time watching cr
Where did you hear of this controversy?
This channel is literally for spoilers, its a dangerous place to discuss something if you dont want it spoiled just FYI
Reddit, I was trying to find out what the spell radiuses Matt uses are (found out he hand makes them) and then found this guys rants and people were very divided. Half way saying the players should know, the other was saying he should have just answered. Etc
Never heard of it, but if thats enough to put you off a DM, its a hefty investment to watch CR
It's just a lot of the comments were like "yea he's probably burned out, started seeing it in c2 and then it became clear in c3" whereas I thought c3 was supposed to be the best one
this sounds incredible overblown
Probably just someone on Reddit overblowing as @copper minnow said
If it's not common knowledge then presumably it had no actual continued on effect
sometimes someone at the CR tables does things that creates internet drama in some corners. its usually pretty silly stuff
Ah so just taking things out of proportion
Reddit comment sections always make things a problem
There are always enough reddit accounts (50% are bots btw that post for engagement) to make you doubt or hate something
That number might be wrong, but good that you doublechecked here anyway
I just want CR to make a pin plushie
Yeah, I was mistaken. come back from work to see the new episode had dropped on youtube. They must've changed up the scheudle again
Nice thing to come back to potentially
I just watched this episode and LOL'ed at how chaotic is was.
Its weird watching it now, for the first time, and realizing how long ago it was... in the middle of the pandemic and stuff. Plus everything they advertize for sale in the shop is sold out... its a constant state of "drat, I missed out."
lol yeah, i started watching a few months agon and when realized the date i was always like: "wonder when will covid hit and what will they do" XD
dammit Percy what a bloody idiot, What an unsatisfactory and stupid way to die
I mean cmon
i hate this series
They say a man cannot stumble over the same stone twice.
they WERE WRONG
I'm at the Cathedral episode of Campaign 2 and gods this is peak combat
Poor Occtis lol
Love all this LORE
the lore is peak tonight. doe anyone have revivify? 😅
Watching C2 after mighty nein animated is so weird because there's this whole mystery about who the mole is and it's just revealed in EP1 of TMN
Like I know it's Essek
A cupcake??? Laura Bailey you demon
I see we got to the ultimate gambit from Jester
And I loved it
Those are one of the scenes I point to when people say critical role is scripted. You cannot script that scene
Matt looked like he wanted to die inside lmao
Absolutely not scripted
Oh wait till campaign 3 with Marisha's fireball incident
Travis put it best reacting to it
"That face right there makes it all worth it"
Remind me what episode or arc was that?
Campaign 3 episode 85. When they first made it to Ruidus
Okay finally gonna try to finish the campaign 2, I'm on episode 12
It's worth it
Yeah my favorite character tied with fjord and Caleb cause of my love Vax
My fav is Caleb but I also love Yasha and a certain character I can't mention for spoiler reasons
Thanks, it sucks cause yasha is my least favorite mostly of Ashley not being there
That's very fair. I felt same way. I will say, the yasha centric episodes are really good and once Ashley comes back full time, she's amazing. That's a long wait though.
I can't wait
Have fun. I'm in ep 104 now
I forgot I'm on like chapter 1 essentially lmao
"This thing pulls a little to the left" -Aabria to Matt after almost shooting him with a ballista
also not valus doing 80+ damage in one turn and still not being bloody
That molly reveal... holy
I genuinely was in shock
||Molly has died? or woke up in a grove||
Then like almost dying two turns later
is anyone watching the newest campaign not super thrilled with it? 😅
I’m personally loving so far but what’s making you not be super thrilled by it??
I'm enjoying it quite a bit, but I do think I understand why you wouldn't be super thrilled. It takes a bit more focus than previous camapigns since there is several simultaneous campaigns.
its not the focus, that ive got in spades. its just boring. the players at the critical role table are always so combative with each other to a point that it slows the progression of the whole friggin game. none of them know how to "yes and". they all just want their pickme moments of rambling monologue. Ive also watched all of the d20 campaigns and comparatively it looks like brennan is even bored. there are some fun moments but they almost always revolve around something brennan does or says. and admitedly, this is the first CR campaign ive started from the beginning and arent as versed on their other stuff. I may just not like their vibe.
Possibly yeah. Looks like it's just not your vibe. You might like the other CR camapigns as they tend to be a little more cooperative after the first bit. That is another thing though, this is the beginnings of the camapigns and, especially with the seekers, these people would not normally work together or often times work against each other (for example, Julien has every reason to hate Octis because of the fact that his family killed Julien's family). I'm sure we will see more smoothing of the interpersonal conflicts
i get all the interpersonal story conflict and i totally vibe with the world brennan has built. Its the players themselves as actors that I find sub par.
and not all of them. but most.
Yeah I would say some of them seem to be a bit more abrasive or combative than others, but I hardly feel it plods out the story or is out of character for them
it just stops the table and makes it hard to continue what they were doing sometetimes.
lol sometetimes
like i typically love aabria in any other campaign ive seen her in or run but something about her in this campaign has just been pissing me off. like we get it, yes, your adult son.
every few minutes youll remind us or yell at octis for some reason
I get what you mean, I would say try to ride it out. If it's not your vibe then it's not your vibe.
Im gonna keep watching it because its still one of the best developed dnd shows to watch and i need to scratch that itch
I mean, next session won't be the seekers table either. If I believe they should be heading to the schemers table next session
I do want to see more of that but at that table its tyranny that annoys the hell out of me lol
Tyranny is the soldiers table. Schemers is Azune, Bolaire, Halandil, and Murray
oh gotcha. louis and liam at one table competing over who can be broodier
love bolaire and murray though. 🤷♂️
I like Murray. She reminds me of my eccentric college professors
I think marisha plays a lot of well thought out characters really well. theyre all very different from eachother too.
I think ashley johnson does a great job too but shes rolling like shit this whole season so far 😆
ick, i hate starting two sentences the same way. 🤦♂️
I think that's just normal early campaign vibes mixed with the fact that the core members got split up to different tables. Not having Sam and Liam together? Laura, Marisha and Ashley on different tables??
But it's something to get used to
Is campaign 4 on a haitus? Did Brenan have his kid?
Nope. They're slated to have episode 19 air this Thursday. They didn't have an episode last Thursday, and here's what the programming schedule had to say:
We’re taking a quick break from Campaign 4 this week!
As our tale through Aramán continues onward, we’re shaking up how we rest along the way! Instead of a set last-Thursday-of-the-month break, we’ll be laying down our dice wherever the story finds a natural pause. We’ll also be taking time off around special holidays here in the states!
ahh I see, I thought we were going on hiatus and was going to be happy for Brennan but a little sad
It might be post schemer’s table for that
i thought they had their kid ages ago?
ah ok second child
Can Liam and Sam stop kicking me while I'm down
Nott and Caleb are my favorite cause I love Nott sad backstory and I love Liam tragic one
Guys I finally made it to the critical role channel...no.more geek and sundry
Aye! how far are you into C2?
Nice! i think i just got to ep 23 on my rewatch of c2 and honestly its one of my favorite out of all the campaigns so far!
Azuneeeeeeeeee
my god.
He's already my favourite and now he's got so much respect~
Bolaire and that other curator are my new favorite PC/NPC dynamic
Dude first episode and Luis broke my heart
I didn't expect that
Episode 24 of Campaign 2 spoiler
||Jester say that Fjord slept with her mom||
Thank god Laura and Travis are married
This man’s out here crying on command at a goddamn DND game
I wish my players had this level of emotional investment
He is a true actor 🥲
My man’s a trained actor
So good
Rp is hard especially when your not a trained actor but like I gotta step up my game
The more I think about it
Jester's backstory makes her really broken op with the rich men
WOW
That is an ending
Matt Mercer's know how to lure peeps into sense of calm and stab you
Evergreen comment
probably a stupid question, but you call a deceased person by adding late to their name (IE, the Late John Smith). Do you still add the late to a person who died, then came back to life in the idea of Octis
Since he’s a wizard I don’t think so
Guys I just realized the schemers table is the first table with no little animal familiar
YES i js joined this server im so glad theres a crit role channel
anyone in the beacon server? 👀
I'm sure Murray will fix that
ALL the best lies contain truth
A good lie should never stand on its own. A good lie is a parasite
Bro why do all my favorite characters end up dying. MOLLYMUAK NOOOOOOO
I'm here for you as well
The one time they don't have jester
Long may he reign
We all love caduceus. He's also somehow hilarious while being totally deadpan
Good luck
Yessssss
The thing hurts about Molly death
The one time the healer isn't there
I mean, even if Jester was there, I don't think she could've prevented his death. He hit two death saves because the guy double taps
I really feel that Campaign 3 had so many guest DMs because Matt was testing to see who should take the DM seat in campaign 4
Was it not just Brennan and Aabria?
I mean yeah, but compared to the other two campaigns that's 200% more dms lol
I mean there have been other DM's for side projects within CR, and with the fact that Brennan is now the DM its not a hot take
I'm not saying it's a hot take, I'm just generally seeing it as I'm catching up on campaign 3
Yeah, I think they were testing the water to see if they would alienate the audience if Mercer wasnt the DM
I mean, have you seen some of the comments, when they do anything other than letting the players win it'll alienate some of the audience. I'm glad they decided to let Matt play for campaign 4. I love Brennan's DM style, and Julien Divinos
I’m also really loving how Matt plays as well it’s nice to him outside the dm role in CRs main project
precisely, I love Julien's almost cocky demeanor that somehow doesn't step on the toes of anyone
and I generally don't like 2024 rules, but the flavor of his demi-gauntlet is so nice
I do als love brennans dm style so much
Honestly all the flavor all the player put into there characters combat and magic is so cool
Oh yeah, and I believe the campaign setting works so well with Brennan's style. It's like high fantasy but with a low fantasy/Victorian feel
oh yeah, and how they interact with each other
Exactly honestly I love campaign 4 so much its becoming one of my favourites so far
ITS SO COOL
"What are you doing?!" Julein
"It pulls a little to the left!" Thaisha
Thasiaha and Julien’s interactions were great
A good emotional break a lot of the times at the seekers table
all the tables are so good too! They are all so varied in theme and content it's wonderful
Oh yes and the way they played which from the soldiers being more combat based seekers being more exploring and th schemers being heavy heavy RP (they all have insane rp case VAs and actors but the schemers tend to have a bit more so far) there’s a play style for everyone
having Liam and Luis at the same table is a blessing and a curse
they are amazing together but IM SOBBING OUT HERE
hell, I'm not one to cry at media, kinda never was, and it got me tearing up!
just the desperation and pure anguish in azune's voice really did it to me
Sammmmeee
The fact that Beau stunning strike saved them
The more and more I watch Liam the more and more I wanna play wizard
Liam is pretty good at making his class look like a lot of fun. The way he narrates Orym in C3 is so entertaining, especially in combat
agreed, im glad its finnaly his turn in s4
Me too! I feel like we know 🤏 this much about Hal so far
the hunt for demidis blix is on, and now the schemers table really kicks off
Well I'm watching the Mighty Nein talking about their dead friends in a bath house
God I love critical role
I have to say this Caduceus is better than Molly...
I love just how dry Caduceus is and how dumb he can be
Anyone else clock that Pimley from tonight’s episode has the same surname as Ulbid, who’s another smuggler? I figure they’re brothers or something
Every day is Thursday when youre 11 years behind
every day is watching Scanlan and Fjord be my favourite CR characters
whats C3 what is C4, brother I only just finished C2 and rewatching C1 for like the millonth time
C3 is Bells Hells, idk what 4 is yet
Since it's 3 different parties. I guess we're going with just Soldiers, Seekers, Schemers 🤷
Not spoilers, but Critical Role-related. I'm hoping there's a DM here who might willing to help me do some plotting for a oneshot.
If you're willing to help, can you give this a 👍 and we can DM so as not to bombard this channel?
Jester is one of my favorites so far
The dust of tastiness agaisnt the hag and didn't lose anything
And we all love her for ending that round of competitive rake stepping.
I'm just processing the reveal about jester dad
He’s always wet
very wet, all the time
😄 Finally caught back up on CR, after so long.
I hate being caught up, I miss the glory days of s2 binging
Ugh same!
I'm mourning Doctor Thadeus
Taking bets, do yall think they’re gonna get the guy in time or get noticed
Eyy they got him
Bolaire: “This is what I was born for. Being mean and correct.”
This has been such a Schemers combat
We don’t want to do a boss fight, we’re doing trickery!
The most dangerous entity we'll find is just a guy that just wants to lay hands on folks.
Schemers table, for when we want folks to emotionally break down lol
Oof. Having to hop bodies that way, has to suck
Oof, Liam got real close to Hal getting sucked into Bolaire lol
“Your thoughts unravel” is a diabolically cool thing to print in tiny letters on the inside of a mask that possesses you. Talison’s characters rule
What is happening

The caption just says thank you for the tour, could be a cover for a collaboration but it might just have been a tour. Would not be surprised if she’s doing VO for one of the animated series.
Just out of curiousity were you correcting Dariax's pronoun choose of 'she' for Samantha?
Yes, Samantha is nonbinary
Just FYI, their pronouns on their Bio are They/She.
The pirate ship stuff is just peak
Typically, the pronouns that come first are preferred over the second one
But neither is incorrect.
True
Tracy is the best running gag ever
Collectively (dm world characters) I find The Mighty Nein the most superior.
I need a picture of an incredibly sad gloamglut
Like absolute teary eyed little sad thing
God, I want to make a conspiracy theory that Araman is actually Exadira post Campaign 3 but there's just one massive hole in it that people in Araman have seen the shapers war and seen shapers (gods) die
Okay I kinda agree, but here's the thing
How do they not remember anything from beforehand?
Like the events of campaign 1 and 2
Well campaign 1 and 2 could be a thing of older history, like the further back you go, the less you know about it due to information being lost to time
True that makes more sense
Anyway
I've never seen someone roll so bad before then Matt when they are on in the jungle
BECAUSE THAT MANTICORE SHOULDN'T BE DEAD
sometimes you crank that solja boy, sometimes that solja boy crank you
Man I’m catching up on cr campaign 4 while working on my cosplay and man it’s hilarious to watch it in 1.5 speed
Am I the only one who feels the Best Character so far in all campaigns is Caleb , Percy , Grog, and Pike
I'll throw Jester as her humor is like mine
Man my fav cr characters from each campaign are vax, grog, nott, jester, faun, dorian, and kattigan and thimble
Jester is a saint 😄
Are the deities of Exandria the same as those of The Forgotten Realms?
there are some cross over but not all the Forgotten Realms deities are Exandria Deities and the deities that are crossed over also have some different domains
Got it. Thanks 🥰 also, fabulous handle 😉
Pun intended 😉
some Exandria Deities are also from pathfinder originally
Avandra, the Changebringer: The deity of freedom, trade, adventure and luck (Exandria Deity, but I have seen some ties to 4e deities)
Bahamut, the platinum dragon: The deity of metallic dragons, justice, honor, and good-aligned dragons (Forgotten realms deity)
Corellon, the Arch Heart: The deity of Art, beauty, the fey, and spring (Forgotten realms deity)
Erathis, the Lawbearer: Goddess of civilization, laws, and peace (Critical role original as far as I seen)
Ioun, the Knowing Mentor: Goddess of learning, prophecy, knowledge, and skill (Forgotten relams deity)
Kord, the Stormlord: God of battle, competition, and storms (from the greyhawk pantheon)
Melora, the Wildmother: Goddess of wild nature and the sea (Critical role origonal but also has some ties to 4e)
Moradin, the All-Hammer: God of craft, creation, family, and legacy (Forgotten realms Deity)
Pelor, the Dawnfather: God of the sun, agriculture, and summer (Forgotten Realms Deity)
The Raven Queen, Matron of Death, also called the Matron of Ravens: Ascended goddess of fate, death, twilight, and winter (Forgotten realms deity, but has notable different lore in Exandria)
Sarenrae, the Everlight, also called Raei: Goddess of redemption, compassion, healing, temperance, and the dawn (Pathfinder god)
Sehanine, the Moonweaver: Goddess of misdirection, love, moonlight, and autumn (forgotten realms deity)
I guess I unlocked Neurodivergent Info Dump Mode? 🥰
Thank you so much for the added info 😊
I've found myself really loving exandria, especially since I had a taste of an exandira based campaign.
I actually am making a homebrew world with my homegame people that's is my "love letter" to exandria
I've played an Exandrian character in two campaigns and am working on a Teenage Magic Monk-ish Tortle campaign starting in Vasselheim
I'm actually looking for some help with the start of it.
Any takers? Please reply or give a 👍
Started watching Bells Hells recently and almost done with episode 11! Just popping in to say critical role is a thousand times cooler than I thought it was
It gets weird with Bells Hells, but it's fun 😄
Bells Hells is neutral evil at best. It's quite fun
There's definitely some specific ways you can read the ending of the Bells Hells campaign.
Ugh the Hydra I hate with my life
The Halloween episodes are so funny to watch
"And I'm a werior" Thimble
Thimble's the most lethal one yet lol
"Liam said whacking it" Brenan Lee Muligan
I love the combat in the schemer's table. It wasn't just straight up head on combat, a lot of it was deception and getting them to infight.
At this rate, it'll be two months before they can cast leveled spells again.
yes, like Brennan said, the schemer's section of this day that the lore keepers are keeping is in a smaller font.
It's intense watching them have to contend with the social scenarios, around people who very much can just pluck their heads off here. All the people who can actually hit back are off at other tables.
Imma sounds strange a bit, but it almost feels like a VTM game lol
I'm watching the first ship battle of campaign 2
I'm so hyped
I especially love how the nein went from mercs to pirates in like 5 episodes
Real question
WHAT WAS LIAM TALKING ABOUT?
Dunno lmao
Longstanding CR tradition of saying the most provocative nonsense possible. To try and get a reaction from the DM right as the camera goes live
Ooo gotcha
Episode? Can’t remember that one.
Episode 41 but then I realized they were doing a peaceful talk
I'm enjoying learning more about Fjord
I just love how Yasha is just there in the background
Oh don't worry, Yasha will be back and have more of a prominent role in the game. She's just in the background because Ashley (Yasha's player) is gone for long periods of time for other work based stuff and Matt has a thing against other players playing absent player characters (this stems back to camapign one with Pike and he who shall not be named)
I know
I've watched campaign 1...
but yeah the mental picture of just Yasha being there in the background is kinda funny
Literally I just imagine it's a cardboard cut out they carry everywhere
yeah ashley was busy a lot with a tv show
Yeah it sucks
Thank god Liam ritually fast most of his spell or else this would be bad
Seekers table: has to risk life and limb to learn the secrets of house tachonis’s dastardly plan
Schemers table: 🕯️
Well this has gone about as wrong as it could have
I truly don’t see how they get out of this without them killing her, the lady of a sundered house, or more likely her killing them, or their lives being completely upended
Ok that was good but my opinion hasn’t changed much
I love bolaire but his vibe and cormoray’s vibe are not compatible
OH
UH
WH
HUH
Good lord what a session
Guys I just made it the animated intro
The animated ones were definitely a favorite for me.
Literally I didn't know it was episode 44
I was like "Oh Matt has something cool to show- NO WAIT
The 80's live action intro was fun, but that animated intro still hits like a drug to this day haha
I have a hot take
I like the 80s intro, after hearing 40+ episodes, when the music hit made me so hype
I like it even more after the Daggerheart Holiday special they did last year
NSR: Aside from the map of Ank'Harel, is there a significant amount of setting information about Marquet that isn't covered in the Guide To Wildemount or Tal'Dorei Reborn?
Every party has some sort of drug.
Is that a response to my question?
it depends what you're looking for, official sourcebook lore or just official information presented in the campaigns so far or guidelines...? also what NSR?
Non-Spoiler Related 😉
Looking for more lore/worldbuilding info rather than campaign setting guidance
There's always the wiki https://criticalrole.fandom.com/wiki/Marquet
Good point 🙂
I'm also trying to put together some hard-copy reading for my partner for some backstory stuff before she joins a one-shot I'm running. She's really new to DnD and CritRole, so... 😅
Well good luck with that! if she\you are more visual learners then I am sure there's more than enough lore video essays to help with that
and I dislike AI but you can use that to frame it and then change stuff as you see fit but I doubt this is the channel for this discussion maybe it's more fitting PMs or #dm-world-building
Definitely not the right channel for those specifics, but I figured the Crit Role channel would have at least one person able to answer the general question 😉
Thanks for the advice and info.
No I'm just making a comment
So... anyone else thinking the houses might be looking to frankenstein themselves a god from a bunch of left over bits?
Jumanji Costco is still one of the mishearing funniest names ever
I still don’t remember their actual name lol
I mean the tachonises were doing something, with what they were doing to Octis
Twiggy crit sneak attacking a dragon is an best way to kill a dragon
One of my favorites was when grog beat the half orc. Also my favorite pc so far is jester using the dust of tastiness to modify the hags memory
The hag encounter is so memorable, and solidified Jester as my fav character of the Nein, and Veth as the least.
Its her whole character honestly. She desecrated other deities shrines amongst other things and was still held up strong knowing how much trouble she could get it. Loved jt
Yay Ashley is back
Ashley's schedule is busy quite often
Blindspot kept her plenty busy.
Expand upon Veth being the least favourite.
Because she was about to set the entire continent on fire, to undo her curse.
Everyone else atleast was offering up personal suffering.
They were all acting foolish in that session, literally getting themselves caught up in a dumb game of who can throw themselves on their sword the hardest. When literally the best answer here was just to put 2 rounds in the Hag, which they were capable of.
Which is why Jester’s my favorite. Because she shut that down. It didn’t matter whether she succeeded or not, it meant that nonsense was over with.
Not was never smart from the beginning.
If they would have fought the hag it would be very different
Yeah I get TV shows that take a while to be made
But I feel like this is overkill
Ive just been listening to the campaign. Hsvnt watched the animated series
I watched the Vox then listened to campaign 1 (Before season 3 which was a mistake...)
The reason I say this, cause it would have been a lot less work
that's the fun part about dnd. I know that Matt was expecting a fight, but he did not expect Jester to just change her memory and walk out without any issues. You could tell with how he talked lol
His face made me laugh. It was frustration and admiration at the same time
The best part of being a dm
um wow
Yasha backstory
I didn't see this happening
WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE'S THE ORPHAN MAKER?
Yep. Her comic was a ride lol
Yeah... um Ashley topped Caleb trauma
Is anyone up to date on the current campaign?
I am. Although it feels like it’s been a decade since the soldiers table 😂 so I’m a little fuzzy on some details
nearly yes
Just got caught up yesterday; crazy reveal in last episode’s cold open with the connection between the Creed and Tyranny’s patron
Meee
Finding myself surprisingly enjoying the Schemers table; did not expect that going into this campaign
Me too actually
Have you watched yesterday's episode yet
I have; what did you think about it?
I was kind of wanting Hal to to fail his wisdom save I am not going to lie
Same; let there be more consequences!
The whole episode was super interesting
I hope the ending with all the out of work mercenaries finally gives Azune something to do outside of combat; he’s lowkey my least favorite character across the tables
For most of the campaign I've just been like who is this guy
Which is a shame because I’ve enjoyed Luis’s characters in other APs
What other characters has Luis played I honestly haven't listened too much other than campaign 3 & 4
In my opinion Ashley Johnson always has the coolest characters
Not on CR, but he’s been on a few other shows I liked; he’s done some promotional one shots for D&D before
Ahhh okay
The timeline for campaign 3's triprong assault on Ruidus is so funny to me because if I understand correctly, the bloody bridge gets disconnected before the mighty nein even get inside the weave mind's building
It was so funny when grog had intelligence and then only remembered rhe letter g from hours of pike teaching him the common alphabet
Trailer for VM season 4 dropped
Guys. We aren’t going to get Vecna.
What makes you say that? The trailer had even more vecna stuff in it than I expected
I think the cause of DND rights maybe?
oh sure he wont be called vecna
Oh most definitely
but its just a name
In the words of Austin Powers
"Look it's Godzilla! "
"Due to international copyright law it's not"
Oh, he’s for sure going to be called the Whispered One instead of Vecna
Hasn't "the whispered one" already been said in the show?
Yeah, for the Briarwoods arc
So I am right technically, chill guys lol
Since like the first season
It’s just that the way you phrased it doesn’t really fit the situation. It’s just a name change
Yeah but it’s not the Vecna
I don’t know what that’s supposed to mean
Matt’s Vecna in C1 was already different from the greyhawk version I guess
Theres probably many versions of vecna
They'll probably have some joke about "Oh, we cannot know the name of the Whispered One, for it was shrouded by strange mysteries."
Each person that gets “a” hand of Vecna, or “an” eye of Vecna has the risk of become a version of him.
The point of his cult and even the severed hand of a god as an artifact is to get around the fact that gods are limited in affecting mortal affairs to a large extent. And Vecna gets around this as his cult serving as his hand and eye in the mortal realm.
Note that possession and avatars of gods in d&d are not even the divine being them self, and that Vecna is tied to the evil of the book of vile darkness and will reform as quick as the book does, it might even be his true phylactery, making him as perpetual as the existence of evil beings in the multiverse.
Thats crazy
god Time Stop goes crazy lol, Caleb with the double blast fireball
I love Sam's characters so much because of how submersive they are.
I like a good back story
It was so funny when sams darington book showed up in the later on campaign
My jaw just hit the floor
I love that the mirror image that Caleb used in the weave mind fight just didn't do anything for him
Caleb has an interesting setup
I'm still in shock that Nott's name was a pun, but making it a part of her backstory hurts the soul
Rextrium... am I getting to the chair?
i know this isn't real critical role talk
But I really wanna start watching critical role, though most of it seems to be behind a paywall unless you watch it life, which sorry, but I am not able to be on twitch for like 9 hours at a time lol
Is there any series that is free to watch anywhere? or atleast not a subscription? if not I think there was an episode one on their channel of the mighty nein i might just check out and see if i would potentially wanna subscribe to continue it
YouTube has most of Critical Role’s streams. They are typically released the week after the Thursday when they initially aired.
is it not only for members?
No not the stuff eventually released to YouTube
oh I must've swapped it with dimension 20 then, I thought it was
It's probably gonna take me 4 years to get through one campaign lol
on top of that, They also have it on spotify as a podcast if you're like me and can't sit down at a computer and watch the episode (I don't remember exactly how podcasts work for free on spotify). Campaign 2 starts on the Geek and Sundry channel for like the first 20 episdoes, then switches to the Critical Role channel after that
Yea. CR has always been free to watch in its entirety. Releasing the following Monday on their YouTube channels.
Yeah I've been listening to camapign 3 for like 6 months on my weekends
Does anyone know/think that DDB will get Daggerheart back up as a campaign or charecter builds again?
Don’t think Beyond’s going to let any Daggerheart material onboard yet
Considering its not dnd, the likelihood is basically 0
back? it never had it
yeah I realized after asking I was mixed up with my Roll20 character builder.
Here I am, at the last episode of campaign 3
I don't know if DDB will get Daggerheart stuff, but I know that Roll20 has Daggerheart stuff
Legit just started C3
trust me, you are not ready
I watched it all, in my free time while mining or building in minecraft, questing in mmos, cleaning at home, travelling etc, took me about 5 years - started in 2020, I wouldn't replace the experience for any other media
damn
yeah idk where to start honestly
cause the campaign one episode one audio is VERY bad and VERY unpleasant
and many people told me to skip campaign one
or like 27?? episodes? idk
i just hope the audio gets better
I mean yeah personally it's kind of uncomfortable to watch because we know who is visibly making the cast uncomfortable, but yeah - read a summery on the wiki for the first 27 then and start from there, if you're asking what's the BEST to watch - campaign 2 and that's not even a discussion
I genuinely know nothing about campaign one, or any of them, i only have seen a couple clips of some of the newer stuff, but as long as is like knew story and characters each campaign i think its okay? if you know that? cause i dont know anything other than the fact it should be in the same world
Well there isn't much crossover between C1 and C2 until later on I guess but there are a lot of references, jokes etc but you could start from either one, for C3 watching 1 and 2 would definitely be better cause PC from both past campaigns show up and the story is connected
damn, then ill prob watch season 1
or atleast like a uh
