And given the trajectory of LoVM and where they seem to be in terms of M9's production, LoVM might be nearing its final arc by the time M9 airs. But that's just speculation.
forgive me if this is a stupid question but has matt/the crew made any sourcebooks for exandria?
i know theres the CoE but thats just an artbook iirc
op nevermind i found tal'dorei reborn, that'll do good for me
there's explorers guide to wildemount too
As Lunio mentioned, Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, as well as Netherdeep.
thank you
Age of Umbra seems so freaking cool!!
I'm going through campaign two right now and I love that the moment the party gets a house in Xhorhas they immediately broke all building code laws
a random giant tree takes over the roof and everyone in town was like "TF!!!" 🤣, had me rolling for sure.
Eyup, The Mighty Nein Campaign was so good.
I tapped out of the third campaign. It feel like there was too much meandering.
I liked it but ultimately it never felt like the party really ended up feeling.. as right? Like mighty nein seems to just have a way stronger group of characters that fit together better
Campaign 3 had a lot of nice moments, great moments on their own. But if you look at the campaign as a whole it just doesn't feel that strong and there's definitely some meandering moments. I'm making my way trough campaign 2 right now
I may still change my mind but idk
campaign 2 was the G.O.A.T.
What episode does the chroma conclave arc start?
The wiki says it's episode 39 of campaign 1.
thanks
that was even more brutal than the show
question. what do you guys think of the Legend of Vox Machina series?
and what season would you say is the best?
Its a fun show, and a relatively quick way to become familiar with the VM characters if you, say, want more context for their cameos in Campaign 3.
i know the show is just an imagination of their campaign, but was their campaign like 3 different storylines irl or did they just break it up for convenience?
They broke it up for convenience and omitted some stuff for animation and time costs. To your question, I view the legend of vox machina as a comfort show it never disappoints and always entertaining to watch my favorite season was season 2 then 1 then 3
im busy with season 2 now, but i watched season 1 too long ago. im think when im done with season 2 i'll rewatch season 1 and then season 3. but what did they leave out?
A lot of side and in-between stuff
The show is essentially condensed versions of the different arcs of the actual play
the most glaring omission is Percy and Keyleth's vestiges
Not sure if I should go on if you haven't seen season 3
gonna start now. do they get them in season 3 or not at all?
but, tbh, i dont think keyleth even needs one. i mean she did have a trail by fire, literally
A legend
yeah that was their logic too... but my reservations about her arc in season 3 aside... scanlan's departure and his substitute character seems to be... not something that is going to happen... as well as a character called Kynan Leore who started out as Vox machina's "#1 fan" and ended up as an enemy that partnered up with dr ripely against them when they were too busy\too arrogant to acknowledge him
Is there a place to watch campaign 3 for free? Or is only Vox Machina freely accessible?
It’s on their YouTube channel!
The Hells Bells streams are members only though T.T
I listen on Spotify, but that’s not watching so only half of what you want
The playlist isn’t on their YouTube page but all the videos of the campaign are still there
Yeah, but you have to be a channel member to watch their livestreams now...
Campaign 3 is over so no more live streams of that and just be Monday crew like me lol
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqTT_VuffgDM4oX3-FS7gqH-r1fCcIdJE&si=EBanxIp1L75V-Eos someone made a playlist of c3 enjoy
OH! THANK YOU!
They republish all their videos under the videos tab instead of using the one live streamed in the live tab on youtube
so the third campaign finished
Quite some time ago at this point, yes
i didn't know. lost track of time
guys I watched campain 1 couple years ago. Took me half a year. loved it. started campain 2, didn't love it as much. Im at like ep 80 now of 2 and don't LOVE it but ut's okay. Do I watch more campain 2 or do I go to 3
Personally I think you can skip to campaign 3 I didn't like campaign 2 either and watching it fully only fills the tiniest of context holes
How was it?
I like it. Very focused.
Gave me a more positive impression of Crit Role after C3 didn't really jive with me.
I watched 45 episodes of C3 and didn't like the meandering. '^'
Age of Umbra really plays into the dark atmosphere.
Didn't like the meandering in C3, either. Why was there so much of it, anyway?
Age of Umbra gave me a more positive impression of the group.
I agree that Age of Umbra is wonderfully spooky 👌
I had the exact opposite reaction. I stopped listening after a few episodes. Honestly I almost stopped listening during Matt’s opening 5+ minute exposition that sounded almost exactly like Exandria. Really? The gods have disappeared… again?
So, the sneak peak for the animated might nein show has been released. You lot excited?
From my understanding c2 was the most popular of them so far, iirc?
Correct me if I’m wrong
Everybody has their favourite campaign but c2 was definitely popular.
It certainly was the campaign that got me to see critical role in the first place
Certainly made clerics popular
I'm curious on how many are upset with Molly's design. Animating the actual coat + tattoos would have been insane
The price of animation is not only on the wallet, but on the mind
Hey hey! Just saw it now! I think it looks good
and taryon Darrington confirmed!
Eh, I didn’t mind it
Im worried it will feel grating over a whole series
Some things have a way of sneaking into your heart
I hope so lol
Drunk nott voice
Funnily enough I would say its toned down compared to how he started in the actual campaign
I did notice something like that
also the voices sound different over streaming vs. in a recording studio. Travis's Grog sounded really different to me.
Mighty Nein November 19th.
Vox Machina 2026.
Source? Read the video descriptions. :>
Gotta say, good on them for having two adaptations of their stories running at the same time
while running the usual critical role show and releasing Daggerheart
Very nice to fill in the empty space between C3 and C4.
Oh campaign 3 ended?
Yeah, near the beginning of the year.
Wow I am very far behind
February 6, 2025.
That was episode 121.
I fell off on Episode 45-ish.
I do feel bad that it didn't jive with me, but other crit role media has kept me on the critter train.
c2 got me in, but I couldn't really get through the long streams
I listen casually and I chat about it and hear about it, but I've never been able to finish any of the campaigns
And Matt Mercer is the greatest man ever <3
C3 was my first viewing of Crit Role.
I've settled with Amazon's Vox Machina and Mighty Nein being my "abridged" experience with C1 and C2.
It pulled me in just enough to get Tal'Dorei Reborn and Explorer's Guide to Wildemount as excellent campaign expansions.
Seeing the differences between the stream canon and animation canon was neat. :>
And now I get to do that with Mighty Nein, despite the Wildemount Sourcebook canon only being up to episode 50 for MN.
If I were to see Exandria as canon to my D&D games, I would go for the stream's events for the most part with some modifications and have the aesthetics of the cartoon.
I watched the teaser for VM 4th season. So there was a heist at Cobalt soul?? I don’t remember what happened on the table
dang age of umby finale is pretty great, matt is on his game for descriptions and scenes
A wise marketing move by the cast, showcasing them planning while knowing that hardcore fans know that (in)famously all of Vox Machina's carefully laid plans or otherwise always come apart.
In other words there might not even be a heist and a scroll just falls to their feet as a way to move the plot forward
I watched the entire Age of Umbra finale live on YouTube.
First live sitting. Glad I did that.
Just rewatched EXU: Calamity for what's probably the third or fourth time. I think this is the only D&D actual-play series that, as is and with no major alterations, would translate excellently to animation or even a novelisation. The tight pacing, the attention to detail, the character work, the battles, it's just so perfect.
I'm partial to downfall myself, I'm a sucker for deity drama
Interesting, I haven't seen Downfall yet. I don't tend to actively keep up with CR, I mostly just rematch my favourites.
Mighty Nein 👀
(Im probably a bit late, but oh well)
Yessss
It's never too late to show hype.
November 19th!! :3
calamity would make an awesome animated mini series
they ***have *** to do calamity some day
its too good and too well suited for animation to not do it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21WAZdm2Gl4 interview with the cast btw
Is Percy from vox machina considered a warlock since he made a deal with orthrax. He didn’t use any magic spells though.
Also is gunslinger a custom class?
Was created as a fighter subclass
from what i heard he took magic init warlock for the flavour of a small pact
I think he took magic initiate: warlock in game, yeah
I just realized something for VM S4, how are they going to do Vecna?
Would he just go under the whispering one to avoid copyrights, or are they going to call him by Vecna
they have been calling him the whispered one so far, I doubt that will change
they have been very careful to avoid wotc ip
Whispered One.
The campaign the show's based on ended with Vox Machina defeating Vecna.
Sweet
Honestly I should have known
But cool
I’m so glad I never got past halfway through c1 so most of Vox Machina would be a surprise
I was slightly surprised they removed Tiberius but I understand
Dude was not a good person.
Vecna is known as The Whispered One in Exandria.
Both Tal'Dorei Reborn and Explorer's Guide to Wildemount also does this to avoid copyright.
The wildemount book was published with/by wotc, they do use the god names like palor, vecna, kord, etc. like in c1 of the show. But the animated series and all their 3rd party books and at least c3 onward in the show have taken pains to use the exandrian names only yeah
I heard. I still don’t know the full story but I know they were absolutely justified
yeah from what i heard as part of the parting way they agreed to let him take the rights to the character with him so they couldnt even use the char if they wanted to without having to deal with him also
though i admit i can feel like making the shows replacement for the char a villain felt a little mean spirited but that just me
like i understand it but at the same time it was the player that was the issue not the character at least from what i understand
I felt it too.
just not a fan of the trope in media of the their was issues with actor involved in a project so lets kill off their character out of nowhere for the drama
The character was a problem as well
I’ll have to find a video about it
Travis's reactions pre and post say it all 😂
Dohla isn't a replacement for him lol she's a canon character in the lore that never got to appear in the campaign because it was about their adevturing party but she's as much of a replacement for Tiberius as Zerxus is a replacement for Juuriael the fire giant that owned the plate of the dawnmartyr... it's a re-telling of the story in a way that is more fan-service-y maybe but better suited to how they want to tell it... and why tell a story about a replacement for Tiberius when they could take it in the direction they did on Dhola?
ok
Also if I recall in c1 they do find Tiberius dead at some point and it’s a rather touching moment
Yeah in the campaign vorugal killed him as he tried to defend draconia so he got something of a hero's send off. Personally I didn't like the character much either so no love lost from me. He was in the origin comics a bit so wasn't totally cut from the universe I guess
Had some thoughts but the thing is from what I heard that character from I understand of the show doula was the only Dragonborn character they gave any sort of focus in the story and then made evil when they where not previously does create a impression for me that it was meant more a take that reference
Like if the character wasn’t a Dragonborn or the only Dragonborn not a background character maybe it wouldn’t feel like that was the idea
I mean Dohla in the lore was a dragonborn too AND it fit the setting of the episode... I don't know if they hate racial profiling in mind when they thought of this twist lol but hey it's a totally valid opinion I just disagree with it. I mean Draconia in it's whole was made as a backdrop for Tiberius' character to fit exandria just like whitestone was manifted into fruition with the creation of Percy, so I still tend to believe they just thought it was a cool spin to the story rather than a mean-spirited jab but to each their own 🤷♂️
Also I'd assume they would want to avoid dragonborn representation as much as possible as to not blaspheme the WotC legal team
Anyone know where the announcement is supposed to be today?
It's on YouTube now!
Here's the announcement details summerized up.
-Campaign 4 coming October 2nd.
-Matt is NOT the GM, but rather a player
-Brennen is GM
-Not on Exandria, or even the same story. Entirely new world and new story
-Cast has not been announced yet, but probably NOT a full cast this time (my guess, six players)
-More details will be coming in the next few weeks probably
Edit: Removed the spoiler tag after. It's just gencon announcements in the clearly spoiler channel
I'm excited
continuing spoilers ||very conflicted about this. matt as a player is intriguing, but im very upset that its not in exandria tbh||
||I'll be honest, I'm happy it's not on Exandria. I feel like that setting really ran its course, and it's time for a fresh start.||
Continuing spoilers but moreso speculation ||I think the reveal of a new GM and a new world entirely gives me hints that they're actually going to play C4 using Daggerheart.||
I'm not sure if the spoiler tag really is needed or not, LOL. It's just gen con announcements. I know I started it, but probably not needed after all, especially given the channel name, haha
Screw it, I'm already done with the spoiler tag already, haha. It's in the channel name anyways. One thing we don't know for sure, is if this is going to be daggerheart, 5e, or 2024e. Brennen hasn't done Daggerheart to my knowledge, but has loads of experience with 5e and 2024. I would honest guess it's going to be 2024e.
it might just be cause im a new fan haha, im sure itll be a nice change of pace for older fans
Also, one thing I'm going to guess here? It's not going to be the regular campaign length. For one, Brennen isn't used to long 120+ episode game lengths, so attrition is a huge factor here. If I had to guess? It's going to be between 40-80 episodes.
C3 really showed that near the end, attirition was hitting EVERYONE, and it kinda was wrapped up in a way that wasn't exactly the smoothest, just for the sake of ending.
Also, further speculation based off today: 2 things are possible:
- Other DMs for future critical role seasons, although I do believe that season 5 will be back to Matt.
- I starting to wonder if this is leading to a future Critical role/dropout merger
(or full partnership style of thing, similar to how Hulul and Disney + work)
C3 did also teach us: 8 people is too many for one table, and everyone realized it. The fact that it also happened with multiple seasons being played at once, only added to the insanity, and I don't think we will see that in C4
i havent finished C3 yet so idk what you mean but im afraid that with all these new changes its not gonna feel like cr tbh. if some of the og cast arent playing im gonna be very upset
sorry lol im being kind of a downer here, on the other hand im very hyped to see what character matt ends up playing
I don't think C4 should be over 100 episodes
I feel like campaigns that are that long is prone to too many complications and burn-out
Especially with a cast of 6 players or even more
Also, I feel like Daggerheart is a game that you can learn in 3 months' time as a GM, maybe even less, especially with one of the main people behind Daggerheart at your table as a regular player
It's not totally out of the question
Idm whatever they choose to play in
But I feel like if it wasn't meant to be a surprise, they would've just said "it's gonna be 5e/5e 2024"
A new world is necessary (regardless of if they are swapping systems or not: I think there is still a small chance they stick with dnd) for at minimum letting Matt play as a player and not GM
A new world will be interesting. I know they'll go back to the OG world, but then will they start going back and forth?
It'll be interesting
I think a lot of people will also admit that C3 was... padded. To put it lightly. because of how indecisive the players were for a long time (note: I have not actually finished C3 so I can't speak on it personally)
If it's Daggerheart, please someone play a Ribbet
are the live shows next year supposed to be C4 or is it other stuff?
Assuming other stuff
Because they said all that stuff and then Darington Press came in like "but what about C4"
ah yes okay i wasnt completely sure
Fjorester wedding is happening at one of em
ohh yes i forgot about that, did they say which one??
i hadnt heard of this until the video
I heard the news. I'm gonna watch the video that just came up regarding the announcement.
Also my guess as to why they're doing a new world is because Campaign 3 ending spoilers ||So much has changed in Exandria with the Gods becoming mortal that I think Matt needs more time to figure out how to build the world and story further.||
Matt also probably just needs (and imo deserves) a break
That's also sorta what I was trying to elude to, yeah
And he's still GMing, such as Age of Umbra Season 2
Just won't be large scale
I think its twofold. A new world is very necessary for Matt to be a permanent player as well IMO
In the announcement vid he joked about no longer being a “forever DM”, but that’s honestly a very valid thing to consider
Forever DM is a very real and scary thing
I don't wanna say too much because I'm gonna end up turning it into a Daggerheart discussion
I agree. Especially if he wants the full experience of playing a character in a world he wants to experience firsthand and discover more about through play
You lose a lot of the wow factor if you’re playing in a world you fleshed out yourself
Well theres that, and its easier for the new GM
That too. Not as much need to rely on someone else’s lore
I am not the kind of person that lets first impressions define my perspective.
I was ashamed that C3 didn't grip me after 45 episodes.
But I still followed Age of Umbra and Divergence more recently. I really enjoyed those series.
I look forward to C4. Maybe it'll be the first campaign I follow to the end.
Especially since it won't have the lore baggage of Exandria.
Brennan being the GM? God thats going to be wild
I think that having an entirely new setting is going to be good for the fans. A fresh start for a new season, and letting the players experience something brand new.
Do we know which cast members are playing, other than Matt?
He said they’re going to be announcing the players in the near future
A reduced cast doesn't bode well for a permanent Robbie role. 😕
There's just too many great cast members. I'll miss any of them. But I do think the show will work better with 6 PCs.
As with any DND game, the lower the player count, the more time each player has to show off their characters. :D
matthew said on instagram "excited to unveil the newer faces that join the OG cast to bring this new world to life." so who knows what theyre doing lol
Hey guys, when I was at the live show in indy, travis said to matt "or should I call you Mark?"
Is this an inside joke? I'm not very current with cr (I'm only on ep 103 of c2) so idk
It's a nod to the "D&D on a Bus" video from Dimension 20.
Almost makes me wonder if that means they're planning on splitting the party into two groups, similar to what they did in C3
Ugh, I hated that. Drags down the pacing, even though the circumstances behind it (Marisha recovering from her wrestling match) are understandable.
Splitting the party was one of the worst things hat C3 did imo
Tbh, I'm glad Matt's getting to be a player. God forbid that man ever suffer from burn-out
I know matt's played as a player before but I've never seen it lol
So I'm excited
EXU Divergence. Brennan as DM, Matt as a player. Bit unique in DND storytelling but not too far out of the box.
He's played in one-shots in the past too
And the first Exandria Unlimited miniseries.
Calamity is probably my favorite of the CR campaigns
Did you guys tried daggerheart? If so … what do you think about their system?
I've taken a look at the SRD. I was a bit enthusiastic about it, but it might not be my thing.
Might be taboo to say this in a D&D server, but I prefer it to D&D
One isn't replacing the other, but rn I prefer DH
Different tastes really
I'll play D&D for massive war game-like battles with friends, I'll play Daggerheart for actually intense roleplaying
Every campaign split the party lol, campaign 1 = trial of the take, campaign 2, the kidnapping of half the party and campaign 3 team wildemount and team isslyra
I think the different teams is what made C3 a bit of a slog
Campaign 1 again had 2 teams as well
But I never got the c3 is a slog opinion so probably better I'd not comment
Yea, I never got this comment either.
I've watched all of c3. I'm about 15 episodes into c2. So far, c2 seems about as random and unfocused and sloggy as c3. In fact, I'd argue c3 had more focus by this point. And c2 is generally proclaimed as the best campaign.
Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying c2. Especially the characters.
i definitely understand the general consensus of c3 not hitting right, I wouldnt say it was a slog. I just didnt enjoy it as much as the other campaigns, C1 is my fave of all time.
There's a lot of meandering and the characters don't seem to quite hit what Matt's aiming for.
i think they are aware of that whitch i think was why they said their doing things a bit differernt with the mighty nine show than the live play show, likey to help avoid the show version having this issue
I was referring to Campaign 3.
I dipped out of C3 and mainly watched the final couple of episodes.
Hi guys, I've been meaning to watch critical role, but I don't know where to start, is there a video title that is like great to start at?
The Exandria Unlimited mini-series and Age of Umbra series is a great place to start.
ExU won’t give you a good idea of what the rest of CR is like, though. Brennan Lee Mulligan has a different vibe from Matt Mercer. I would say start with Campaign 2, since c1 starts mid-story.
if youre gonna be watching them out of order just be warned there might be spoilers for past campaigns whenever they bring stuff up
but yeah i think c2 is great especially since the animated show is coming in november
True. Whatever you start with, to get the CR experience, you need to be watching Matt as DM with the core cast. Starting with guest directors or a different game system doesn’t set you up to enjoy the vast majority of the back catalog.
I recommend watching one of their live show. Maybe with their 10 years anniversary live or Sydney live show. The hype of the crowd and the energy on the table will help with the experience on why Critical Role is so good
I mean, Matt and the amazing casts deliver on role playing and gaming skills is the reason I love Critical Role
Just don’t start with ExU, especially the aabria ones, she’s a good DM I just don’t think she works for CR
She’s a guest DM
I know
Brennan works as a CR DM I just found aabria didn’t work for me too much with the jokes and the memes and took some of the focus away from the characters
Anjali and Aimee were great players coming in to dnd as new characters
I have a feeling by new faces we'll see whiteney Moore as a core member
I’m wondering if danee Carr will get a chance to play
As much as I love how she embodies the fanbase think she's too busy and is comfortable doing just that, embodying the fanbase
We love our LoreKeepers!
Even just a one shot
Watch their recent Age of Umbra game, and then watch either Campaign 2 from the beginning, or Campaign 1 at around episode 25 for reasons
Pretty sure she was in one of the Honey Heists.
It just doesn’t make sense to start with spinoffs if you’re trying to decide if you like the main show.
AoU is just easily digestible and uses all of the main cast of C1 and 2
The only caveat being that they aren't playing D&D in it
I wouldn’t start with a 10th anniversary live show that’s basically fan-service based on characters and plots you’ve never encountered before.
As a long time CR fan, I found AoU totally unpalatable, and not because of Daggerheart. I stopped listening a few episodes in.
I should say I never watched any of them, unless it was to see a battle map. The episodes I did watch, it didn’t seem that the visual aspect added anything. Listening as a podcast while doing something else was fine
Yeaaah, I've never listened to a podcast in my life
And I have intense ADHD - I'm prone to zoning out easily and have easily slept through watching CR at many instances
To this day I still haven't memorized every PC's name in C2 except for Jester and I think Noxx
Yeah. I can see how a long-form campaign would be hard then. Honestly, Dimension 20 is probably better for short attention spans in that regard.
I have an hour-long commute every day, which CR helped me get through.
I haven't watched them yet but I might for Brennan
There was one Actual Play series I enjoyed where it's basically Hardcore D&D
Everyone rolled for their stats and if you get like a 4 for Dex, you gotta live with it lol
I thought that was a funny series but anyways
Nice.
But yeah I'm gonna be catching up on a lot of D20 and CR's spinoffs
I think Matt does 4d6 drop the lowest and then there’s something about how it compares to the standard array. Brennan does 5d6 and drop two lowest for rolling stats.
I am currently watching through D20’s back catalog and loving it. It hits a sweet spot for me between serious CR and silly NADDPod, both of which I also love.
I guess if someone had access to Beacon, the condensed CR episodes might be a way to go. But I’d never suggest a newbie pay to see if they like something.
If the total points are below 70, reroll.
the c3 abridged episodes are on their regular youtube channel, they just come out early on beacon
theyre a good way to watch and digest the whole long campaign, though all the table talk and jokes and stuff are cut which to some folks ruins the experience
120 hours is a lot easier than almost 500 hours ngl
(60 if you decide to speed up time.)
Same for me. 4 hours per ep with around 100 episodes to watch is a bit much. I don’t have that much time. So I’d watch only the highlight
I have the ability to listen to podcasts at work so that's how I've caught up on most of my CR
I'll always recommend doing another activity while listening to Crit Role.
I listen to critics role while getting my teeth cleaned or getting a cavity filled
Honestly the dental office is a great place to listen to it
Even though listening to a Sam regiel add bit while getting a root canal isn’t the best situation
What order do i listen to Critical role podcast in?
If you want to start from the beginning, Campaign 1 with Vox Machina, then you could start with episode 1 - but, the audio quality is pretty rough for a while and many people (myself included) recommend starting in the mid-20's for that and other quality reasons. I don't recall the exact episode just now, but someone else might.
Campaign 2, The Mighty Nein, is also a good entry point. You actually join in at the beginning of the campaign, rather than partway through it like with Campaign 1.
Ultimately, it's up to you and down to personal preference, so YMMV. Just bear in mind that Campaign 3 has many, and I mean many, callbacks to Campaigns 1 & 2 which may be lost on a new listener.
Most recommend episode 28 and on for first campaign due to that person.
Yea 27/28 is an oft suggested start
Thank you. Much appreciate
I've watched all of C1 but have only recently started watching tlovm. Does anyone know why they made Zahra so.... different? Zahra and Vex's friendship was one of my favorite things in the campaign and Zahra was my favorite non-VM character but I really don't like her so far in the animated version.
Different? How so
She's definitely the same character imo, their friendship just isn't there yet
I mean, it's been a minute since I've watched Zahra's introduction but I don't see her as the type to legitimately try to murder people who she's never even met before who have done nothing to her.
Mainly presumably to advance the plot, but as is natural for guest characters her personality and reasoning for things has always been vague and considering her original player Mary Elizabeth McGlynn voices her (and directs the entire cast for the animated show) she presumably gave the green light on the "does this fit\would fit your character?" the cast must've checked in with her before writing this in
Been listening to Exandria Unlimited: Calamity.
A comment on YouTube said it best, it's like listening to the Titanic fall.
Brennan (Brenden? Brendan? Im having stroke) would definitely narrate/reproduce the sinking of the titanic
Brennan is correct
Premise video is up
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nY1JaWT-CKo
to quote a comment
-C4 will use DND 2024, not Daggerheart
-All 8 founders are returning for C4
-13 PCs split into three smaller tables
Won't deny that I am a bit surprised that its dnd not daggerheart, but I am vindicated since I've been saying there was a chance they stick with dnd lol
Brennan's got them on a Westmarches style 😄
Very excited to see C4's new world (Aramán). I came a little late to Exandria and always felt a little out of the loop.
It is also definitely a few more players than I was expecting
Gonna need more tables lol
I was expecting 2 tables, maybe double 5s or 5+6
I guess 4/4/5
It's split up between different game styles
Soldiers (Lemme just go hit the problem.)
Seekers (I wanna go and poke the worldbuilding all the time)
Schemers (I'm gonna play James Bond, and investigate)
I wonder which group Liam is a part of /s
I couldn't be happier to see Aabria Iyengar and Alexander Ward as members of the main cast. They're phenomenal. That doesn't mean I'm not excited for the other members, I just mean that I wasn't expecting them to be in the main cast and I really enjoy seing them. (Worlds Beyond Number, EXU:Calamity, NY by Night)
I think we can probably figure out atleast a few people for each table. I wouldn't be surprised if Travis is running with the soldiers.
Combat, exploration, intrigue.
Seems neat! :3
mhm
Oh wow. So one of the core pillars here with Araman is that the mortals actually did kill their gods.
Fight the power.
And that's something that happened only 70 years prior to the game.
Not ancient history, but like, they might have been there
Can't wait for October 2nd 😄
What are your guys thoughts on the campaign 4 trailer? Brennan as DM?
Happy? Disappointed? Westmarcb?
I’m literally so excited!! I’m such a big fan of both critical role and dimension 20 so seeing him dm some of my fav people makes me so happy!
Very interesting to see the three tables have their own identities (Soldiers, Seekers, Schemers) and I'm curious to see in what way they might interact with one another.
Brennan is a total madman for taking on 13 players lol
Brennan is going to be running like, 5 concurrent actualplays lol
Ah damn. I'm making a campaign setting where mortals fought the gods and won, though in my case, it was many many years ago.
West Marches style? Interesting
I hope so badly for Liam and Luis to be in the same group
the Drama™
Yesss. Poignant sighs and wistful stares
There are definitely some interesting ways those groups could play out. I'd assume Travis will be in the soldiers group. But im not quite sure who else will fall there
Same with like.. I think marishas obvious choice would be seekers. That's totally her jam.
Aramán sounds like an interesting world. I wonder if it's at all tied to Exandria.
I could also see Travis sitting at the scheemers table. Maybe that's just me thinking of Cerrit haha.
He said in the video that he once ran a campaign with 40 players. I don't know how true that is, but it's impressive.
huuuuuuuuuuuuge news
I just hope brennan doesnt burn out. this probably means he has to step back a little bit from his dropout stuff
I’m hyped for the new concepts for C4.
Still thinking about Soldiers, Seekers, and Schemers. '^'
Who falls into which category?
I guess Matt would be in seeker table for lore and magic
They did say the tables are likely to intermingle and make "crossovers" so to speak when it feels organic to the story not necessarily when it most fits the classifications of soldiers schemers or seekers. So Travis for example might start out on the soldiers group but the story (and his schduele) allows him to spend a few episodes over at the seekers table
i seems with this c4 news, the daggerheart community is mostl not handing it well. Their Reddit blew up with a lot of disapproving comments and comments saying they are selling their daggerheart books. I really did not know how impactful critical role has on individuals lives.
Ikr. They are upset that c4 isn’t Daggerheart.
I think I’m excited for c4 as westmarch style and I look forward to what Brennan would bring.
As for DH, there would be other new contents to watch. And Matt might DM some of those.
My only comment is I'll never trust redditors to run a business.
Most of the disappointed comments are reasonable and valid takes.
But some of the claims are... stretching things a little bit.
Yeah, there are people who are angry about the news of c4 from Darrington Press community. But I doubt if those ppl like CR in the first place since some of them don’t even like to watch c1-3. What they like about CR is only DH mini series. And they said they won’t watch c4, which is fine by me coz of they don’t like any of current CR contents, they could just go watch other DH channels.
I never finished C3. Stopped at Episode 45-ish. It hooked me, but didn't keep me engaged.
However, EXU and Age of Umbra are series that I've found more enjoyment in over the last year.
This, on top of Legends of Vox Machina, has made me a fan of Critical Role.
The final push was Tal'Dorei Reborn and Explorer's Guide to Wildemount being excellent reads.
I'm 10 pages away from being finished reading the Wildemount Gazeteer. '^'
Same. I like c1 the most and right now I rewatch c2 for certain episodes I like, while c3 isn’t a hook for me either.
I also love Exandria Divergence & Age of umbra vibe.
I really think that only a certain type (well, two types, but theres overlap) of person is like, mad that they are staying with 5e
Particularly the vein of "its gonna kill 5e and I dont like people enjoying 5e at all"
They said at the start of the video that they are running loads of dagger heart content too
I wont deny im surprised though. I thought there was a chance they stuck with 5e just figured DH was likely
To be mildly cynical, I suspect their DH content doesnt do as well as their dnd content
But it could also simply be a comfort factor for Brennan
Or as is most likely the case, a bunch of different reasons
im debating whether or not im gonna watch c4. i dont usually watch cr but i adore brennan, and the idea of doing a streamed west marches game is just so dang interesting
I wish there would also be some sort of backup\co-DM situation so there won't be any chance that there won't be an episode because Brennan's sick or something... I was a bit reticent about C4 at first but now that I (think I) understand the rationale... I'm definitely going to give a shot because I trust the cast to know what they're doing
All episodes are pre recorded so they pro have full episodes ready to go
Yea the pre recording has helped them so much in every regard
I imagine they're record them in batches by group - like each group will have a few day stream schedule and then they'll schedule the next and so on. So even if they don't release that way fully it'll keep the groups somewhat paced within world of each other.
I'm interested to see how often they rotate out the tables. Will we have to wait 2 weeks for every storyline to continue by going one at a time? Or will Brennan do a bunch on one table, and then a bunch on the next?
I mean, realistically, we are going to get every group roughly once per month
Given each campaign has gone for roughly 120 sessions, the least I can gleam is 40 per table. :3
But this is just me extrapolating 3 campaigns.
Listening to Exandria Unlimited: Calamity.
Laerynn is such a good character.
Its easy to get swept away by the other characters - they're all so cool and larger than life, but Laerynn is the MVP.
I think Laerynn exemplifies a lot of the wrong in the sky cities.
||She genuinely believes she has the moral high ground for advancing planar travel. However, objectively, it is sapping much-needed energy and risks the livelihoods for the citizens of Avalier. She feels like the thesis statement for the mortals' hubris in the Age of Arcanum.||
That's why I enjoy the character. 'u'
im here sham
same
im still absolutely baffled
im baffled by the cliffhanger vox machina left us on lol
good :3
i cannot wait for the 3rd season lol
oh right the show
yes lol
I'm trying to find a company that can put me in a coma til Campaign 4 lol
lmaoo
good idea
gasp get em to put you in a coma till nintendo decides not to cripple our bank account
too late I just bought a switch 2 xD
i been wanting one specifically for age of imprisonment and mkworld (not sure how good the second one gonna be tho)
;-; i dont got enough money for that tho
worlds honestly really fun
so is DK bonanza
if Z-A sucks im throwing it in to a lake
i hope it doesnt suck because it seems nice as a critical role influence
lumiose looks like an amazingly cool city
but its gamefreak/nintendo 🙁
true
I will say switch 2, im hopeful for good perf
Halfway through EXU Calamity Episode 4.
Will likely finish tomorrow as I'm working on my DND campaign.
I’m rewatching M9 to 70th episode. I wanna watch Yasha’s backstory
Recently I watched most of it too, quite the experience... didn't really think it'd go the way it did 😅
Go watch the most recent one where the party are all CR0 NPCs it’s great
That one is called Divergence. It's good but has a different feel to it. I like it, nice change of pace for CR. But just be aware it hits different than classic CR.
I watched Divergence before Calamity.
New campaign 4 short trailer just dropped.
I am excite
Got a link?
It's just a short, but here ya go: https://youtube.com/shorts/lANNfJFcZLo?si=yT29_89vuKnspin9
Full Tolkien Brennan I am ready 🍿
Im going to the live show in December next year
I wanted to get tickets to the one in London but they r already almost all gone
I'm hyped for C4
BLM is the G.O.A.T
He has a very different style to MM, I lost interest in C3 but bringing in and shaking things up with new players and DM. I will get invested again or at least try.
i've been watching campaign 1 for the past few months, just got to the part where they meet up with the Meat Man, its been great so far. Looking forward to campaign 4 too tho
Now that Bell's Hells Abridged has like 20 episodes past E45, I'll likely get back into just to get the sparknotes version of the campaign.
https://x.com/CriticalRole/status/1965867952487674073?t=UELGQD1CsuC06eDFLJHZgg&s=19
New teaser came out for Campaign 4. Emojis to guess each character for the upcoming premiere.
I looked at the emoji post. That’s pretty hard to guess the characters.
I reckon there’s a pact of chain warlock, a leonid paladin, a fairy🤔
My (most likely incorrect) bet is we got a shifter rogue, a Tiefling bard, an Aasimar wizard and a leonin paladin on our hands.
I know the gods have like abandoned Araman after the revolution, but I think that gives too much angst potential to Aasimar for some people cough Liam, Luis, Talisen and Aabria cough to resist. 😂
I so badly want to watch CR but the 4+ hour episodes are tough for me to commit to with full attention.
There's the abridged versions for campaign 3 and the animated Vox Machina/Mighty Nein series which dramatically streamline campaigns 1 and soon 2.
Omg amazing. I just looked it up but it looks like it's incomplete. It looks like there may be one video that's hidden due to being unavailable, Aunt, from what I'm reading it doesn't look like they've completed making the abridged versions for the third campaign. Is it still a work in progress or is the full abridged season available anywhere else other than YouTube?
They have not finished the abridged versions for C3 yet as far as I am aware.
Ah ok good to know. Super cool to know about this though. I was starting with campaign too but gave up after realizing I couldn't keep up with it. Going to give this a go!
It is a lot of media to consume, which could be seen as a good thing in the right light.
I tend to consume it as background noise whilst working.
I was attempting to do that too, but found myself not being able to retain what I was listening to while being distracted with work
I skip some episodes and I fast forward through the highlight. That’s how I catch up to c1-2 without missing much of the storyline.
This is not a drill: character art is dropping across CR social channels!!
They've all been revealed: https://www.instagram.com/p/DOorGTslRzJ/?img_index=2
C4 Trailer premieres on Thursday at 10am pst
https://imgur.com/a/N50rwUj Here's an imgur link for those who don't use instagram
So based on the character arts: Here's my best guess on characters. To my knowledge, nothing official has been posted, so this is just my guesses:
Travis: Leonin Monk
Whitney: Tiefling Cleric
Marisha: Dwarven Bard
Laura: Fairy Rogue
Aabria: Uhh... Goliath maybe? Warlock
Matt: Human Fighter? Swashbuckler Rogue? Bard?
Taliesin: Oh god wtf is that? - I'm not even going to try to guess...
Ashley: Drow Cleric maybe? Maybe a great old one warlock? (Please be a GOO lock ashley...PLEASE)
Alexander: Human Warlock? Alchemist Artificer?
Robbie: Half elf Beast Master Ranger
Liam: Orc Bard!
Luiz: I'm guessing Human Eldritch Knight, but it could also be a paladin
Sam: I could be wrong, but I'm thinking a halfling celestial Warlock
There's a lot of duplicates, but we gotta remember that these people are going to be split into three groups based on Combat, Lore, and Politics.
squints at Azune
Welcome back Caleb Widogast
absolutely love Robbies character art
I won't lie my first thought was "oh so the wolf is the character"
My first thought about robbie's wolf was that it reminded me of Link in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
With the replacement limb.
OOhh... like a druid? That's awesome!
If that's the case anyways... that would be a really cool character as well.
And it would definitely match the character art. I didn't even think about that
I don't think it actually is after looking at it more
it was just my first thought cause the wolf and guy look so similar
although actually...
they have the same scar
(just more faded on the human)
OH MY GOD CHARACTER ART IS OUT
Yea, I didn't notice this the first time through, and the more I think about it, the more i'm convinced it's a druid
might even be a shillelagh in his hand there...
Yea. Circle of the moon would fit that character pretty well.
I think we are also seeing some overlap between character classes because they are all going to different groups. Marisha, Matt, and Liam all appear to be bards, but from different colleges that relate better to the different groups (Marisha seems to be college of dance, Matt being Valor, and Liam being Lore)
I'm going to be thinking about this until we get confirmation... haha
Looking at it more closely, Taliesin's character is probably a Soulknife Rogue.
Because that appears to be a psychic blade
Crazy
I expect to see at least a few homebrew subclasses
True. If there are homebrew classes or subclasses here, I've got no idea then.. haha
Like I've no idea wtf Alexander's class or subclass is with TWO familiars
they have two former lead designers of 5e in their back pocket now so I expect some homebrew
I expect homebrew solely because A) Tal and B) Brennan
Oh boy... please let them have created some kind of Familiar themed warlock SUBclass... I really want to play that myself, haha
Wizard, Warlock, or Artificer is my guess for Alexanders
could be homunculi
especially with how. Artificial. they look
Hmm... If they are starting at level 3, it could be 2 levels of artificer, one level of warlock for that character.
Because the potion bottles seem like something alchemical, but they also have a grimoire.. so I dunno
Keep in mind we also have the emoji posts to reference for each character!
And Ashley's character... Please please PLEASE be a goolock... I really want her to be secretly worshiping some horrific eldritch being...
lol, that's right up there with Ashley's chaotic playstyle, haha
Emoji posts?
THe emoji teasers.
oh right
Before we got the full arts, each character was teased with three emotes each.
Oh, I see them now
WE can infer the classes based on those posts.
I never saw those before, so now I gotta go back again, haha
I assume the lion sun shield is Travis. Light cleric or Fighter would be my guess.
Travis is 🦁 🛡️ ☀️
Paladin maybe?
Paladin, Fighter, or Cleric would fit that.
Paladins fit the archetype of protector.
Ok, I think we gotta assume that their artwork isn't being shown with their main weapon of choice, if we are linking the emoji's to the artwork
Laura Bailey is 🧚 🪡 🥀
Because now, looking at the Wolf, Magnifying Glass, and Bow/Arrow, that definitely now seems to be a beastmaster ranger
for Robbie's Character
Wait, what am I doing? I can just put the emojis instead of wording them out.
I wouldn't be surprised if Travis was a paladin
I'm going to guess the 4 emoji one is Marisha
iirc he said he enjoyed the paladin parts of fjord a lot
🎭 📜 🔑 - Talisien
I hope the mods don't mind us doing the emote thing for this chat
🧚 🪡 🥀 - Laura Bailey
🧔♂️ ♀️ 🔮 🃏 = Marisha
🦊 🖤 ⚰️ -Alexander Ward?
Probably
💖 😈 🍾 - Ashley?
i dunno what emojis they are but the pillar, vase, guitar is probably Matt
🏛️ ⚱️ 🎻 - Matt? That's a Classical Building, an Urn, and a violin
Ashley may be better suited for 🧝 ♀️ ⛓️ ⚱️
i'm guessing Tempest Cleric for Luiz
Oh wait... The 🏛️ ⚱️ 🎻 is probably Liam. If he's a college of lore bard, that would all fit his character.
The 📘 ✨ 🕯️ Might be either Sam or Whitney. I was thinking same could be a celestial warlock, but he might be a light cleric instead...
Oh, LOL. SO apparently, after this, people went back and looked at the "What is Campaign 4" announcement video, and there were parts of the video that talked about what people's classes were: https://www.reddit.com/r/criticalrole/comments/1mwj5od/cr_media_campaign_4_announcement_video_whats_on/
So per that video, if everything's accurate from that video:
Liam - Halandil Fang - Orc Bard
Aabria - Thaisha Lloy - Orc Druid
Tal - Bolaire Lathalia - Elf Warlock
Robbie - Kattigan Vale - Human Ranger
A warlock for Talesin is the most goth choice. He’d enjoy it. And I would love it.
Even with the multiclass gunslinger / warlock, he managed to to create amazing character like Percy. I look forward to what he would do with a full elf warlock
I'm honestly surprised Tal HASN'T played a warlock yet... lol
From the artwork, he's starting as a "pact of the blade" lock.
Oohh
Ahh can’t wait for campaign 4
I imagine Liam's character is related to the other surname Fang guy in the campaign intro text Brennan made as well
Ooo that would be funn
I’m excited to see Matt play for this I’m interested in his character he made
One of them HAS to be an aasimar. My bet is either Luis, Sam or Matt.
Do we want to take a gander at subclasses?
Honestly all the characters look so cool
Mine are a mix of hope and guess: Taliesin - Pact of the fiend warlock
Robbie - Beastmaster Ranger
Aabria - circle of the land druid
Liam - college of lore bard
Ashley - Light domain cleric (I really hope she goes for the drow who is allergic to light but still worships it trope)
Travis - Warrior of the open hand monk
Whitney - Diviner Wizard (based on her introduction being the tarot stream basically)
Alex - clockwork soul sorcerer?
Laura - arcane trickster rogue
Matt - Champion fighter
Marisha - College of dance bard
Luis - Oath of glory paladin
Sam - Celestial patron warlock
It'll be fun to see any religious characters in this, considering we know the gods are (very recently) dead
Is this campaign in exandria or is it somewhere else??
i hope they are all multiclass soup characters lol
What's a multiclass soup character?
I think Alex is doing the Reanimator Artificer honestly
Basically a mish mash of several classes
oh
👍
Confirmed Classes Today:
Laura: Fairy Rogue
Travis: Leonin Furry Paladin
There's the link to the new video 🙂 Every seems super excited about this insanity. Can't wait to see it
Cold hearted killer fairy rogue
PFFT... It's Laura. Definiltely going to use her powers for pranks and mischief, not murder. Haha.
Now Aabria and Matt on the other hand... those two are going to be absolutley psychotic.
What subclass is she, though?
No idea. If I have to guess, it's either going to be Thief or Arcane Trickster
Probably Arcane Trickster if I had to guess
More mischief to be had with that subclass
I’m glad she finally gets to be a rogue 🤣 after Liam took it from her in C1
watching rn
I don't wanna wait anymore, campaign 4 looks so peak!
as much as I love matt's narrations
Something about brennan narrations just tickle my brain perfectly
Brennan Lee Mulligan has to manually hold himself just, so he won't monologue every single conversation.
He is well-read, and it shows.
I look forward to October 2.
same
i dont watch CR tho thats my birthday lol
yeah brennan has a way with words that just hits me the right way
I dont know anyone else who talks like that
very few people use skullduggery...
Is it Thursday yet?
But not Thursday night, depending on where you are
Do critical role still do next day vod releases for their Twitch prime subs?
I think it's VODs on Monday on their YouTube channel. I'm pretty sure the broadcast VOD is available right after it ends.
VODs are on Monday for YouTube.
Is it thursday yet?
It has to be Thursday now, surely!!
I know, right? So excited
Hi, for someone who's never watched or known about Critical Role stuff, is there a recommended campaign or season I should watch by them?
Campaign 2 is the best one to watch IMO
Campaign 1 kind of starts after they have played for ages in a home game and it’s very low quality so feels more like a home game
These are on their YouTube channel
basically you should start either C1 or C2:
C1 is the beginning so you really see how they develop as players and the stream, but the first 26 or so episodes can be rough at times and the stream picks up the game midway. though the 3 main story arcs afterwards are highly praised
C2 doesnt have the same issues but Ive heard some people say they were not as invested in the overall story, ymmv
Note with C1 is that you can pretty safely start on episode 26/27 because most of the stuff that occurs beforehand is either not too important or (particularly when it comes to characters) is reintroduced/covered later so you don't miss out on much
C2 is a good place for "you don't need to know anything else about CR to get into it"
C3 I would generally stay away from for new viewers (for a handful of reasons), but most especially it ties into a lot of previous stuff
Ironically, the new campaign starting (airing tonight!) is probably the #1 place to start because not only is it a new campaign with no old characters or anything - not even the same world as all of the previous campaigns.
yeah C3 draws heavily on events and characters from both C1 and C2, not a good place to start for that reason alone
Start with C2 and watch the Legends of Vox Machina on Prime Video. That'll get you caught up nicely to understand all the tie backs in C3.
Who's watching live tonight?! I'm pretty hyped but will still likely be in the Monday crew.
In in europe so I cant watch live sadly
I probably will.
way too old to stay up all night
This. So much this.
And I'm even in the CR timezone (Pacific)
Is it Thursday yet?
A couple of hours to go 🙌
IT'S THURSDAY?!
Yes sir 😂

I miss the days where I could stay up and watch the live on the east coast. I'm too sleepy for that now
I'm excited for the AM rewatch though!
That is why im in the Monday crew
30 minutes until live premiere.
Woooo critical role day!!
I canceled my usual game this week to watch it hot off the beacon
They just went live on Twitch and YouTube.
The live countdown has begun.
Looking more forward to this than I think I did any part of C3 (which I still haven't caught up on)
C4 being a fresh start is already something I look forward to.
The least I know is it won't make any callbacks to C1-C3.
Another thing is picking my favorite party and sticking with them.
Soldiers, Schemers, or Seekers, three different flavors of a campaign.
Oh boy.... It's happening!!!
Between Twitch and YouTube, the stream has about 75,000. I know numbers fall off over time, but I wonder how that compares with previous campaign premieres.
3 mins
I'm so ready for this... been looking forward to it non-stop since the announcement
90 seconds... get your drinks and noms!
I have my speaker up.
And here... we... go.... Once more into the breach my friends...
Chat is disabled. Looks like we can only talk here. :o
Haha, forgot. First episode is audio balancing night... lol
Starting it off with Mr Drama himself
Was this part of a new set?
They just hit 100,000 viewers on YouTube.
Yep. New set
And we start with a hanging? Brennan doesn't mess around.
He's like.. "I got 14 people to go through tonight. There's NO TIME FOR INTROS!
lol
Huh, no character art/stats in the corner. Just noticed that
Not yet, anyways.
Slow burn.
Last time Brennen had an intro with Luis, literally took us on an emotional roller coaster with Calamity
This is already pretty sad, if you ask me. It's a man going to the gallows.
Casually casting Detect Magic too. :o
Not gonna let protagonist syndrome make me think about the city as the bad guys.
We're only in the first 15 minutes.
First roll!
First roll of the campaign lol
Nat 1?!?!?! Bwhahaha
The first roll of the campaign is a Natural 20.
nat 20 baby
First roll campaign Nat 20
oh hell yeah
even funnier
This is the first time I’ve been able to tune into an episode live. What a great start 😆😆😆
Well then…
Liam's brother is being executed? Sheesh
20 minutes in, and now we're getting ads. Oh my god.
Critical Role Announcement Playhouse = C.R.A.P.
Bwhahaha
Love it so much
"Ok, so here me out: For my ad on opening night... i want to destroy my dressing room"
EBAY?! That's a first...
Ok, Now I understand why they took chat off Twitch and Youtube..
didn't realize the bacon membership had discord chat access.
OMG... FCG Book!
Don't give in, dice goblins. I know what you're thinking.
You don't need the dice.
INTRO TIME
Wait... that's it?
Great intro, 10/10
"My disappointment is immeserable.... and my day is ruined..."
of course Hal's a dad
Halandil Fang - Level 3 Half-Orc Bard
AABRIA!
lol, I'm now picturing like 50 people standing IMMEDIATELY off screen between the cast and crew
Thaisha Lloy - Level 3 Orc Druid
Hey, everyone thinks Sam is small but hes what, like 6'1"?
Occtis Tachonis - Level 3 Human Wizard
Great line. Bad things are better together
I need to remember that line. "Bad things are better when we're together."
Fox Familiar!
So instead of a cat, we got a fox! 🙂
Still miss that cat...
It's going to be a game of musical chairs all night isn't it. haha
Every episode
Just the first few. They did say that after the first bit, the groups will form up
Azune Nayar - Human Paladin/Sorcerer
Interesting... I guessed he was an eldritch knight.
So did I. Especially after that introduction at the gallows.
I have no idea what's going on
Teor Pridesire - Level 3 Leonin Paladin
Crazy stats on these characters. Wow
The Russian lion Paladin
It's a mourning kind of morning.
Interesting choice for Travis to go Charisma as highest for a paladin. Wonder if we have a spell-focused Paladin on our hands here.
I love being late to the stream, did I miss another table or something? 😭
Nope, just these 5 so far
We're getting a feel for the characters and how they grieve.
Also, I can't post the image for proof, but Matt said on the Discord they rolled 5d6 drop two lowest for stats.
I'll be curious to see if he stays a paladin the entire time with those stats, or branches off into something different.
Thats the feel I get for when~~ travis~~ Teor walked in, and whats been said
Them's prime Sorcadin stats.
5d6 drop 2? Can't say i've ever rolled that before.. Whatever works for them I guess.
THat's the first half of the entire group. :o
Oh boy... here we go with the large group
I feel like 2024 rules are actually the best time to use point buy or standard array because all feats come with an ASI, but it's also a great time to get those crazy rolled stats even higher!
"leave the spider."
"She's cute! Don't worry about it."
😂
Obviously we're getting grand introductions. The large group will split off eventually.
OOh... is sam and whitney's family of noble background?
LOL
"A tall man - 5'11" " THERE WE GO
"28 or 30 years old" feels like such a weirdly specific phrase
like pick an age 😂
He's a cleric.. with 18 CHA
oh noes 😂 this is gonna be fun
10/15/15/12/10/18. Wait, that's a 10 WIS cleric..
choco cookie with sulphur? lol
Eh...you can kinda make that work in 2024?
Oh, you can pretty much make any stat work, it's just interesting
12/15/18/12/8/20 WARLOCK!
20 CHA warlock @ level 3. SHEESH
I honestly suspect that Cleric is using charisma for casting. Which is a totally fine home rule.
Okay, so it's pretty clear everyone starting at 3rd-level to access subclasses.
Not to mention they seem to have already-incredible lived experiences.
This session feels like they're recovering from a death of a PC.
I'm Guessing... Celestial for that warlock?
I honestly feel like with any spellcasting class, you could honestly make a case for any mental stat as your casting stat...
oh no, she chaotic rofl
Oh god... Sam's Neurotic Good, and Whitney's Chaotic... something
imma use that irl now whenever a stranger wishes me a good day 😈
LOL
Light cleric for sam. Sam really can't get enough clerics... haha
Wait... "once from the shadows"... I'm calling it now... She's a great old one warlock
i love how Alexander keeps eyeballing the camera. makes for some good meme screencaps lol
rofl the drama !
OOh... please be a fiend lock.. PLEASE be a fiend warlock trying to reform in the church of the light.... HAHA
I am feeling so much whiplash with Sam Riegel playing a more serious character.
not them feeding into each others crazy 😂
yum yum blood
Oh she is going to be interesting.... haha
that she is, i love it
LOL. "I have no way to stop you"... That's definitely going to be the motto of this season isn't it...? LOL
Oh no... This is DEFINITELY a character that mixes persuasion and deception to the point where i doubt SHE could tell the difference
I dont like it. I miss Matt
alongside the charisma score...holy moly lol
I quit. Critical Role is now woke. Great.
it's been for awhile if you know what to look for lol
Yea, someone that chaotic with that much power is going to be insane...
Tyranny is a complete disaster, and she is so far my favorite character in the show.
im excited to see how she lives up to her name tbh lol
First scene: Stabs a bird. Second Scene: Drinks all the alcohol. Yea... I think she's definitely going to be doing that. Only question is: Which team is she going to be on...
jfc SAM
LOL
i learnt a new word! thanks Brennan lol
OOhh... so sam's family was the cause of the death of liam's bro...
Dramaaaaaaa.
it would NOT surprise me tbh
OOhh... just saw a fun theory online: Sam's not actually a cleric: He's a divine soul sorcerer pretending to be a cleric
ooooo, that's a good one
why do I get the feeling the second half of the show is gonna show the other half of the party?
LOL, aabria is absolutely smashed.
LOL, bye Aabria!
Oh no... Laura....
Somehow, it's only NOW that the chaos begins
3 STRENGTH!
3/20/18/14/17/16 rogue
4inch pixie, no strength lol
that DEX tho
HA brennan
now i can do 1 chore in the break rofl
And she already has to start making death saving throws?
I hope that lion man knows lay on hands
Ayo, one of my players is playing a Pixie. :3
Luis is such a good actor, I'm so locked in everytime he speaks
Anyways, time for my one chore. Gotta take a quick shower.
I absolutely cannot wait to see more of him and Liam - the drama brothers
jfc the stress
Okay ,what did I miss?
I was a little bit late.
What were the damage numbers? :3
laura on ||deathsaving throws, x2 miss/success each||
they rolled initiative, Teor used cure wounds
THe players' stats are cracked good lord.
18/18/16/13/15/15 Ranger
Apparently, they rolled 5d6 and dropped the lowest two stats
lowest two numbers*
Oh my goodness, Robbie is just playing PatrickWarburton_FriendlyJock.exe
Brennan has to get crows into everything 😂
Nightsong
DAME AYLIN?!
yep, thats what i said too lol
12/14/16/18/14/18 Warlock
Tal's character
10/14/13/16/16/18 Bard - Liam
Forgot to list that earlier
13/13/16/13/20/16 Druid - Aabria
Bwhaha... Aabria....
Brennan let the calamity table pick whatever magic items they wanted so he could use them against them…I have a feeling the beefy stats are a similar dare 😅
The stats really arent that wild
also PC stats have such little impact on game balance anyway
MATT MATT MATT!!
finally lol
Low WIS is really showing. o^o
Oh my god, now I'm left wondering what the cliffhanger is gonna be.
Change is coming.
I got way too distracted by murray... i didn't even see her stats
Murray is Kentucky, personified into a dwarf
Marishas character feels like she said "Im gonna combine Deni$e and Molly" and I mean this as a good thing
LOL, why is EVERYONE 5'11"
(I dont think she's a 5'11" dwarf lol, that was just a continuation of the bit)
Anything over 6' is tall. Below that is short, even by one micrometer.
Yes, sue me, I combined imperial and metric measurements.
oh yah, he's a mean one lol
Murray Mag'Nesson
LV 3 Wizard
11/8/16/19/12/12
Fan wikis are quick.
Matt was serious when he said his character was gonna be different.
Everyone was all hunky dory with each other, but MATT walked into the room.
Note: im surprised that Murray has such low charisma
Probably made up for in skill proficiencies, but we'll have to wait and see for those checks.
ASHLEY!!!
Ash!
Wait... Murray is a wizard?!?!
Might as well call this a horror movie because Ashley is Final Girl! :3
Ashley loves the goth for real
Yes she does
Ever since Pike its been Goth and Goth adjacent (fearne was adjacent and you can't convince me otherwise)
Pike is Goth too! Gothic knight, clearly!
I wasn't precise, so you take it.
ashely=dice chaos. as usual lol
Actually. Do we know what levels they are
All of them seem like they've gotta have at least a couple of levels in em. 5 at least
Everyone is 3rd-level. No discrepancies.
It is done.
Ending with an Arcana check.
So, what are the immediate thoughts?
I honestly don't think I've been as entertained and drawn into a first episode of a season like this one. S2 was ok, S3 was meh, but this one was interesting from start to finish
I was going to play a game with having this on in the background: Yea, that didn't work out too well, haha
S1 was interesting, S2 was where I really got into things, S3 was kind of bland imo....but this. This is what I will miss work and outings for. This was interesting enough that i wasted alot of fuel in Dune Awakening bc I forgot I was actually playing. That means something to me, and I wanna see where this season goes for sure.
I did, and frankly I wish I just lied in bed and watched
BTW, that comparision was specifically for the first episode of each season BTW
That makes sense. I kind of judge the first ep of each season as well for the bait factor.
I was a bit overwhelmed, but I think I understood what's going on at least.
Alot of players make it both more confusing and intruiging
The pixie almost dying in the first session was something
I've got many many questions, and many theories about characters and events.
I'm also very curious about this world in general. Typically, people who are executed are not typically given honor's funerals...
Very true
Overwhelming factor aside, it was a very fun 1st episode and I'm looking forward to next week.
Same.
And I'm definitely not playing a game that stresses me out during next episode.
Incredible episode. i was locked in from start to finish
Now I sleep
Guys any way to watch CR without sub?
The live stream starts at like 4am for me, so there is no way to catch live
wait till monday for the youtube upload
assuming you dont have a prime sub avaliable either
I had prime for some time, but not anymore, ty for info
gnight as well all
so I am just starting to watch this lol
these people are incredible lucky with their rolls for stats lol
Did brennan just let them reroll until they where satisfied?
Everyone was saying they did 5d6, remove the two lowest.
Or she chose to min/max idk
I’m hooked to c4 enough to binge through live show without having a meal tho
Ngl I heavily dislike rolling for stats in a campaign, why do people still do it, what is even the upside for that?
Like it’s momentary fun in character creation at the cost of fairness and tactical character building
people like gambling
this is a game about rolling dice, dont know what to tell you
Gambling
Standard Array and Point Buy are consistent but not really fun for everyone.
this means Laura rolled five 1's
amazing
where are you watching CR C4 guys?
twitch
Just watched the first 15 minutes so far, but the first dice roll is already a highlight of this season! 😄
Thanks mate!
Some people play for things other than tactics. I've seen someone play a character with 4 Strength for an entire campaign -- roleplayers especially care a lot less about stats than most other kinds of players.
Yeah sure but most dice rolls don’t impact 3 years of campaign.
that makes rolling for stats all the more thrilling to people
Okay
I don’t like it but I understand
yeah I personally dont do rolling for stats anymore either, but I do get the allure
🤝
I feel like rolls are about individual moments of heights or lows and not supposed to be game breaking
and with 5d6 drop lowest 2, its not like they wont all be having great stats anyway
(unless your name is laura bailey and you roll five 1s)
Tbh it’s also that unlike CR most parties are not meant to handle rolls that low
anyway, I think Ashley and Laura impressed me the most with their performances.
Sam stood out too
Stopped watching at the break(it airs very late where I am), but Liam was great as always
Player stats also generally have very minimal (to no) impact on the game balance unless all stats (ie: including primary) stats are negatives. Even just having 1 primary stat be a +2 is generally completely fine.
Thusly - rolling stats is fun and doesn't matter much, so why not.
Oh. LOL. I guess they scrapped the whole.. "No replays on Fridays" thing. It's on twitch right now
My prediction (based on the character dynamics and what seems to be their goals so far, just after watching Episode 1) of what the tables will be like initially once the party splits after a few episode.
Soldiers
Thaisha (Aabria)
Julien (Matt)
Hal (Liam)
Azune (Luis)
Seekers
Vaelus (Ashley)
Kattigan (Robbie)
Occtis (Alexander)
Teor (Travis)
Murray (Marisha)
Schemers
Tyranny (Whitney)
Wicander (Sam)
Thimble (Laura)
Bolaire (Talesin)
I think Hal will be a Soldier, since I predict his character arc will involve him stepping into the life his brother lived that he's himself foreign to as it stands.
I really can't see Hal doing anything other than stepping into his brothers shoes when the time comes to continue whatever fight his brother was fighting.
"They're a tall, towering person"
"So 5'11?"
They clarified and just said that was meant for immediately after so their team could rest but they were still doing it in the morning
Such a small 5’11” pixie.
I think they meant 5'11" and 1/8"
They didn't for episode 1. I had to buy a beacon memebership only to find out they were offering 1 month free -.-
Laughs in using prime twitch subscription to watch the vods/j
Are the gods in Exandria separate entities from their counterparts in other D&D settings or are they one and the same?
Many of the gods in the pantheon are analogues to the D&D Gods.
Trademarks prevent them from taking the names, thus renaming to "Matron of Ravens" or "The Platinum Dragon".
also depends on the angle you are going for
in dnd (which does include Exandria as part of the official multiverse) gods across the multiverse are essentially the same "essence" even when they aren't the same god.
most common example probably Tahkisis and Tiamat
Like echoes
Hey,where can I watch campaign 4? I was so excited to finally be able to enjoy the campaign as it was coming out but all the "official" streaming place it say its blocked until you pay. Is this new campaign a only pay to watch one!?
I can’t wait to watch it I’m apart of the Monday crew
Always live on Twitch, on Thursdays.
it's out on youtube now
its so damn good, so ur in for a ride.
I did stay up for the premiere Thursday but sadly I can’t do it every week so I will soon be joining the Monday crew😭
I just watched C4E1 - and WOW this thaisha character is so annoying
Why does she have to butt into every scene
?
These stats they have are nuts, did they do point buy with like 35 points or something?
idk
what are the stats (i dont watch CR cus i dont really have access to any social media platforms to watch it on)
It was something like 10 14 14 16 16 20
They periodically flash up the character sheets on the stream and the stats are… higher than I’m used to for level 3’s
But Brennan runs pretty lethal combats so maybe he let the players stack the deck a little
I heard they rolled 5d6 for stats and removed 2 lowest instead of the usual 4d6. Robbie even posted saying that his daughter helped him roll i believe
so yeah the stats are higher than they would have been normally
Nice
yeah closest you can get to that w point buy is 14 14 14 12 10 10
I JUST SAW ITS SO GOOD
I can’t say I disagree here. I too worry that Aabria might bulldoze her table a little bit
Only time will tell ig
Though I will say that it’s just tough all around to be on one episode with 13 players. Perhaps when we get to the smaller tables it will be better
Extremely. Ive been having to split the episode into bits. Its a lot of stuff at once
😭 help me this episode I’m 10 mins in and I’m crying-
Yeah. The start is roughh
I maybe this is just a first episode thing where they did it to introduce
Definitely but I’m sure they’ll get there footing at some point
I loved it so much- I’ve got past the adreads now
The ad reads were pure gold 💀
