Fire Alpaca is great for beginners, there's a lot of resources to learn online, and the UI is a lot more user friendly than some apps

I use MediBang, but it’s kinda difficult to learn and you get really good brushes if you sign up. You don’t have to pay anything but you can if you want. Sketchbook is also one I use often but I use it more for what it’s called, a sketch book. The brushes in that program aren’t super nice but I love the pencil brush on it and the feel of it is great for a quick sketch. Those are my suggestions 🙂

can anyone spare some character design tips? i'm trying to figure out how to tone down my character's outfit and appearance so that it doesn't clash. unfortunately, i don't have a recent full-body image of them. i just have a few really old designs and drawings, and they aren't that good

try websites like Adobe colour to get some ideas for palettes that all go together
sometimes if you've got a lot of elements in your design it can be tempting to make them all different bright colours and it doesn't usually end up great
the other thing is value, if you put your image to black and white you might find everything turns out the same shade of grey
try and make sure you vary how light/dark your colours are
even if they are different hues

Ok so, first off you are indeed suffering from the previously mentioned issue of having similar values as you can see here
Second off, blues and purples are on the opposite side of the color wheel from brown (remember, browns are oranges) it’s not that you can’t use them, but they should really be accent colors. And be sure to put those accent colors somewhere important like the face as the contrast will draw the eye (her having blue hair works quite nicely for this purpose).
As for what colors I would recommend, that depends on what the character is supposed to be and where they’re supposed to be. In general, greens work good with brown as it gives a more earth-y feel, but this may not be what you’re going for.
Thirdly, for her outfit, I would find some inspiration. You could google images of centaurs to see the range of clothing that a centaur could wear. Then you could look up styles of women’s clothing and see what sparks your imagination.
I would also recommend adding a medium amount of details to the design, but don’t go over board with it since every detail added is one more thing to keep track of from panel to panel. On the other hand though, too few details and the character might look unfinished.

Just some ideas on what kobold equipment might look like.
I approach it one of two ways, the clan made it meaning it looks like something you'd find washed up on the side of a river. Or it's gear taken from adventurer's expecting an easy kill only to be felled by the traps kobolds do so love to kill people with.

I have to take time- her leap dagger is homemade but sturdy (it is just a dagger but it helps her wield her sword) because she uses the sword's weight to help her pull her forward or to dash around
Her whole thing is momentum
In theory you can use the momentum of the blade (if given the right dex) to almost wield a weapon often too cumbersome, it is a odd fighting style (WOULD NEVER WORK IRL) but is based off the abyss watchers from DS3

@gusty imp I just used my iPhone, you can edit pictures and if you scroll on the bottom bar, there's a saturation adjustment. Turn that all the way down for a monochromatic image. But any digital drawing software should be able to do that, there should be some way to adjust the Hue Saturation and Value.
And yeah, a Satyr will probably be easier to draw.

Haha I basically just mashed ideas from a few different scythes and took the handle from the great axe. The designs I took from the armor and the pommel is from this weapon design
