@cedar karma It's really commendable that you’re working on your art skills! I don’t have so much in the way of critiques as I’ll try to provide helpful advice that you’ll be able to use to build to self-critiquing in your art journey.
1.) Practice ghosting lines, making confident lines, and refining sketches. Don’t make the first draft the final draft.
2.) Study the thing you’re trying to draw/use lots of references. References will never not be useful and will help you build your visual library.
2a.) Learn to “see” shapes in what you draw and translate their 3D forms into 2D. There’s no hard and fast way of doing this; it comes with time.
2b.) Break down what you’re trying to study. E.g., if you want to draw portraits, don’t try to learn the anatomy/perspective/shading/coloring of the head all at once. Focus on individual facial features to make sure you understand them.
3.) Be honest with yourself when self-critiquing, not cruel. You're doing this to improve and to have fun, so always keep that in mind.

first easy spot would be to put towns in the bays, as protected waters make good harbors
id also put a town on the coast of each island at the closest point to another one, as that would be an obvious trade route
for the mini island on the botton right, id put a castle there defending the straight
and the 3 mini islands on the left should have something that created them ( volcanos are common, or could be on big island that was fractured by some event )
id also but another castle guarding the straight on the upper left corner mini island
i would then pic a vertical line someone on the map to put mountains maybe 2/3rds of the way to hit the 2 large islands on the right ?

Picture a paper-white, elven version of Ed from Cowboy Bebop (add two super long curly dreds) , she loves to paint things. Her MO resides in fey trickery + creative lifestyle.
Ni is on a quest for pretty things, as she adores the queen of air and darkness.
Ni loves animals, but especially quicklings to bits, as they are most of her family.💐🎨
Ni can't read or write much, although she is very in touch with her visual side, preferring to draw things and change colour than to change shapes and sizes. She doesn't understand numbers well.
Ni was born in a forest with other changelings, on day they had to quickly flee before some soldiers investigating a coup turned up. Ni got confused and lost her family. She was adopted by her local land druid. She almost fell off a cliff one time, and the wind saved her. So she did it again just to make sure, and ended up meeting the queen of air. Being a child, the queen asked her to collect some flowers in an effort to protect the child from doing stupid shit. In some way or form, Ni's clumsiness persists, and the queen of air grants her power every time Ni acknowledges her help, by finding pretty things and putting them in trees for quicklings to take back.

Just finished this character art! She is a tiefling celestial warlock who gained magical powers by striking a deal with an angel. Perched on her right hand is her faerie dragon familiar (psuedodragon stats to make it AL legal.) Her devil ancestor lived and died a long, long time ago, and so over time her hooves and tail have disappeared, and other than the horns, her human and drow ancestry have become dominant in her appearance. I would however play this character with tiefling abilities and stats.

Okay, Map Review time.

So, this seems to be another generic 3-biome (Forest, Tundra, Desert) fantasy map. I've seen so much of this it becomes normal, because literally everyone does this.
First of, Thanuras. It's surrounded by mountains, which means it's going to be desert for sure. Take a look at Afghanistan in real life: The East has the end of Himilayas, the West has Iranian peninsula, that's why the whole country becomes a desert. I see a bunch of rivers, so that's technically correct—But It should become a desert in a far future.
The Gloom? I don't know what the hell that is, gives me a lot of Underdark vibes.
Desert in Odrye is geologically correct. With large mountain surrounding the east, blocking any wet winds from creating a rain.
The black mire should be a desert, that thing is more enclosed than Thanuras.
Northwest lands is pretty perfect. From the looks of it, Parfren might get sunken underwater in the future.
That's all of the things I pointed out, hope you enjoy.
To be honest, a giant lake in the centre on the continent amd a sea in the west reminds me of Central Asia. Wish people would based a fantasy book on Middle Asia mythology. Their culture is too underrated.

@dense lion thank you! the method im using certainly is a bit more time consuming simply do to lack of familiarity with it but for the most part each "chunk" is a separate layer. with the only exceptions being the head, which is all one layer, and all 3 pauldron chunks. Those are both single layers. After that everything has its own dedicated layer lol. Certainly makes it easy to keep from painting over or smudging my edges.

Actually she may originally be a belter? But she is part of the Martian armed forces now. The client wasn't 100% clear on that, but the tattoo on her chest I think represents Mars, and the tattoo she is kind of hiding on her arm is something else. The client said it was a secretive kind of tattoo

So I hadn't done digital art in yeeeeaaars because I didn't have a tablet, but last night I finished the lineart for my halfling celestial warlock. She is a "good witch" who made a pact with a unicorn and has as almiraj familiar. Working on color now and it is haaaarrrddd :/
I have to say though that I have been loving how much detail I can get into digital art. I will still do traditional portraits but I think this tablet was a good investment.

You may wanna double up the linework layer with a multiply when rendering if you find it's getting lost. However if you use intense cell shading, that could work too

he's got a very interesting backstory, tbh. like not only was he already generally pretty tired like, to the point of mental/emotional exhaustion being a personality trait when i first conceptualized the character, but we rolled on the EGtW Fateful Moments table in our session 0

I haven't painted humanoid miniatures in nearly 20 years, so compared to my old jobs this is pretty damn rough, but I'm kinda relearning as I go, in the time it took me to do this I used to be able to paint 25 at superior quality, but thats what 20 years does - my wifes teifling warlock, first mini of over 200 to do for my homebrew campaign
